    Singapore noodles

If you call yourself Magic Kitchen, it better be magical. Well, it's good and there are a handful of "authentic" Chinese dishes on the menu. The interior is quite small, so you're really here for takeout or lunch. The service is okay, but it seems to get lost once they start trying to juggle their takeout and dine-in customers. I was very pleased with their Singapore noodles and beef noodle soup. I just wish there was more to their menu when it came to non-Americanized items. Call me spoiled coming from Chinatown. Certainly a family-ish run establishment that I will come to from time to time.

My friend and I ordered from here last night and really enjoyed this food! He thought it was some of the best egg drop soup he's had. I liked the dinner combos, where you can get a smaller portion of various entrees along with steamed or fried rice and crab rangoon or egg roll. I got this with kung pao beef and it was just right! Magic Kitchen has the magic touch! I will order from them again next time I want Chinese.

客家小炒 (Stir fried pork with veggies)

My family and I used to go to the restaurant all the time when it was still Great Wall. This was my first time there after the new owners had taken over. The new owners had remodeled the place so it felt more open and not as dirty as it used to be. Bathroom was also a lot nicer than it used to be as well, but the place is still a bit on the older side. We usually always get the same dishes and I was pleasantly surprised to find the flavors were very similar and yummy. My parents have been to the restaurant more times than I have and have picked out some dishes that are good ( there are some that we stay away from because they are just not good IE the walnut shrimp) We ordered: -客家小炒 (Stir fried pork with vegetables) : Flavor was good as well the portion. It's nice and salty so it goes great with white rice. -長城豆腐 (Fried tofu with black bean sauce) : Tofu is well fried and matches well with the sauce -絲瓜魚片 (Fish filet with Chinese okra) : very nice and light flavor. Fish is nice. Chinese okra is a hard vegetable to work with sometimes just because it can be bitter , but the owner told us they try the okra every time they serve it to make sure it isn't too bitter. There were a few pieces that were bitter but for the most part came out pretty nice! -Fried shrimp: flavor was good just a bit on the drier side Service was also great, food took a bit to get to us at first but as soon as the first dish came the rest followed. We will be sure to be back very soon! Pro: -Flavor (on certain dishes) -Remodeled -Adequate pricing -Service Con: -A bit older structure -Some parts of dishes (see above) -pacing of food (especially in beginning)

Almond Chicken w/ fried rice, egg roll & fortune cookie!

Picked up carry out for lunch today...still one of our favorite Chinese restaurants. Fresh, authentic, reasonable $. Still only doing order/carry out...but what a nice treat to take home or eat at a park! Highly recommend you try this little gem tucked away in a Lisle shopping mall. You won't be sorry!Chicken with Broccoli, Szechuan String Beans, Almond Chicken...etc! Several Lunch specials!! Treat your tummy!!

    Orange chicken

We were in a pinch & needed a quick fix that would hit the spot. I had higher expectations based on what I had generally seen on yelp so a little disappointing to say the least. Orange chicken was a little too sweet which reminded me more of general tsaos. Also, the chicken itself was leathery as well as rubbery/bouncy. The cashew nut chicken was a bit on the saltier side. I did like the fried rice, that was solid. I also appreciated the substantial portions for the price. Overall, there's more be desired in the quality & flavor. Will need to give them another shot in the near future.

Nothing wrong with the food it just wasn't as good as other places in the area. The wonton soup had an unusual red color to it.

Ask the Community - Magic Kitchen

How big is it inside? Could they fit a group of more than 5?

Yes it is big enough, they are getting quite busy though, book in advance so you don't have a chance to be disappointed. If it is during lunch hours, right now they are very free.

It reminds me of college and my twenties when I'd eat this after a drunken night out or the next day hungover. The family meal for 2 (beef broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice) was LITERALLY PERFECT. Delicious, fresh, flavorful, great portions. I also ordered the tofu with mushroom, and it was so amazing. Great sauces for all the dishes! Chinese restaurant fried rice is a hit or miss a lot, but this was a HIT. My new go-to Chinese food spot!! I'm so happy I took a chance on Lucky Star! It's now in my favorite foods/restaurant rotation when picking dinner.

Before, I've had the orange chicken-- it was good, but ORDER CRISPY and NOTE it has. the orange peel bits. Last night, we got bbq pork fried rice, which was massive, delicious portion.. BEEF CHOW MEIN which was our FAVORITE of the dishes. Deep brown in color with mushrooms and tender beef. Then we not recommend the chicken and cashew chicken.. it looked like gelatin and has translucent onions too... once we got over that, the chicken was lean and tasted good mixed in with other items. They give generous amount of sauces, fortune cookie and chow mein noodles. QUICK too!

They gave us sample of the different menu items to try before ordering; the aristocrat chicken was cooked so fresh that the meat falls off the bones. It's across the street from Arby's in a small strip mall. You'll definitely have to make a U-Turn because getting into the lot is weird. Plenty of parking since it is a shared lot. We decided to do two combo meals plus the aristocrat chicken. When dining in, there are about 4 tables so it can be limited if there is a rush hour. The owner was very pleasant and he explained about the items before we looked at the menu. Lumpia was crispy and tasty. Garlic rice was a little oily but still good. Overall, it's about a 4. I would have given them a 5 but that rock hard crispy kare kare is hard to forget. However, I'll return to try other items. -crispy kare kare with garlic rice and lumpia 3 - I wanted to like this but the crispy kare kare was a huge let down. It was very tough to eat. I've had Filipino food many times and it was never this hard. It's a shame because the peanut sauce with the veggies and eggplant were delicious. -bbq pork belly (liempo) with garlic rice and lumpia 5 - I really liked the BBQ pork belly. Very easy to cut with a spoon. Meat was well seasoned. It is fatty, so it's best to eat it with rice. -aristocrat chicken 5 - highly recommended. Chicken is extremely flavorful even for leftovers. Meat is very moist and juicy. Nice balance of sweet and salty. I should have gotten the 10 pieces.

This place has been around for a long time. No frills cafeteria style buffet. Service is basically to clear the table in between your courses. The sushi rolls I would say are more than decent, and, you can pick your ingredients for stir fry. Where do you see that any more for this price? Overall decent bang for the buck if you just need to get that no frills/"fusion"/hot pot, but straight up Chinese, Japanese, pan-Asian fix on. End note: I feel some of the highly critical reviews here are overly so given that this place does not pretend to be anything than what it is, and has managed to stay in business, in a very tough environment, for a very long time with very reasonable prices.
