The upstairs patio really makes this place. It is rather large with a bar as well so the downstairs area can be quite redundant. It gets fairly packed here on the weekends. This rooftop bar is one of my favorite on 6th st. Good music, good company, good service! I really like the live music scene. I have been here several times during different days of the week and the experience is always pleasant. The bar tenders are on point, solo musicians, bands playing all the time. This place is huge. Yet, whereever you are, you are near one of the 5 bars I counted last time (3 downstairs, 2 upstairs). 2 bands can rock out at the same time in here, and you can't even tell there's another band playing until you are near it. They have a huge projector on the roof, which is cool, but it could be put to better use. Last time I was here, they had a trendy surf/reggae band on the roof, and were playing Patton on the projector. Good movie, but probably not the best time to enjoy it. Great bar to hang out with and enjoy some cheap beers and the great outdoors upstairs. If you want a beer on tap you'll have to go to the long bar on the first floor though. read more

I've been here on several occasions, always have good service with a good view. The first floor normally has a band, second floor has an outdoor deck with a large projection screen and when there is a big sports even on they open up another indoor area that has several tv's. Its a great place to people watch too! read more

The first time we came here, it was dead upstairs but the music they were playing was pretty epic. Our drinks were good. We came back and the place was packed! Music bumping, outside there was a huge video screen playing music videos, people were everywhere! Inside, it was packed but still did not take long at all to get our drinks - which were delicious! They make great vodka sours - didn't check our the beer selection. I pretty much exploded in happiness when they started playing Bel Biv Devoe. Where the white women at? They're here. For my first time on 6th street, Maggie Mae's was my favorite place we visited. It wasn't overly crowded for a Friday night and I really enjoyed the vibe of the rooftop deck. I thought the drinks were reasonably priced and tasted good. The music was also good and I enjoyed dancing and having a good time with my friends. I would definitely recommend and go back! read more

Maggie Mae's has one of the best views of 6th street from the top floor. They typically have a live band downstairs and play hip hop/house music on the top floor. 3-stars because they never really have specials on their drinks. The door guys are real strict when it comes to checking IDs. You tend to see less underage kids here versus the other bars on 6th street. read more

The people who work her are rude and horrible. One door guy accused my 22 year old friend of having a fake ID while the other one let us all in. Then the bartender ignored all of us for at least 10 minutes and gave two free rounds to the group of girls in front of us but not to us. Plus drinks are way more expensive here. Atmosphere is awesome. First time being in Austin and this place came highly recommended and after having a great experience at the Blind Pig next door we looked forward to coming here. I've never had such a rude, jerk, bartender serve me in all of my life. There was no line and we walked up and he refused to look up from his cellphone for one second to even look at us. Maggie's is the bar every other bar wishes they could be. They have by far the largest venue and several different rooms for lots of different music. They also have a variety of bars for if you want to just drink, drink and see a show, drink and dance, ect. The main thing that sets Maggie's apart from everyone else is their music. They get some really great local shows to play on regular nights! I've never been disappointed with one of their live acts. It's also worth noting they check fake IDs hard here, so if you're under 21 with a fake, dont waste your time and money. read more

These stars are to th management of this place. He was a professional when we explained our problem with the bouncer of the place not being respectful. He also offered us free drinks to make it up to us and honestly if it was otherwise , our night would have been ruined. I believe whoever you put in the front door as a host or bouncer represent the place, and no business should risk not caring about that especially in a place like 6th, where there are ton of other competitors. This is a fun place to come and party. It has a very large rooftop that allows you to people watch the street. On the weekends there is a DJ on the rooftop as well as DJ's in the Gibson room and live music on the bottom floor. Yes the bar is dirty but this is 6th street and with the mass amount of people that pass through these bars it is going to get dirty. This is one of the few places on "dirty 6th" that I will party at. It's always a good time. read more

Hit up a Friday night burlesque and cabaret show here. Cool 20's aesthetic upstairs in terms of the show, music, and bar scene. The show was awesome, and I recommend it for anybody looking for something cool to do on a Friday night. My only complaint was the guy taking tickets blew up at the guy who had sold me the ticket because he had forgotten to write my name on the receipt when I bought it the day before. Pretty unprofessional to do that in front of a customer. Other than that, great experience. read more

We are from out of town and a local brought us here on a Friday night. The weather was amazing so the rooftop dance floor was a must. The DJ was DJ Kenn and every time we tried to leave the dance floor another hit song played. I haven't had that much fun in a long time read more

This bar is CRAZY FUN! I came from MD for four nights and went to every bar on Sixth and Rainey Street. This place was TOO COOL with the huge screens on the roof showing music videos and playing kick ass tunes. Met some cool people here and the drinks were well balanced and decently strong. I had the time of my life here on Saturday night and it was so busy. I will be missing this place and keeping it close to my heart as part of my stay in Austin. read more

I went to this bar with a group of girls in town for a bachelorette party and felt extremely uncomfortable. The guys at the door were so rude and the awkwardness continued once we got inside. Large, burly bouncer was probably the rudest person I have seen in a very long time. Honestly, It was quite possibly the most offensive experience and it was not even directed at me. He yelled in peoples faces and was scary. In the end, I get it...you are closed, but it is called customer service and we are customers. I was disgusted by this person and because of him and the other rude bouncers screaming obscenities loudly at everyone (women, men and his own co-workers), I will not be back. Gross. Maggie Mae's has all the charm of a dingy dive bar, except it's not dingy, or really even a dive. It's a nice, clean bar, with a friendly staff. This was the first place I went to in Austin, and I'm glad I did because it was a lot of fun. read more

If you are going here with a group for a special occasion do not go. After spending several hundred dollars for a bachelor party we were asked to leave because one person out of 20 supposedly was intoxicated. This was our second stop of the night so if that one person was intoxicated it was from their bartenders. I would recommend going anywhere else on six street beside this place. When asked to speak with the manager the bouncer told me he was the manager and would not let me speak to anybody else. read more

I'm only giving a 4 because we went there to get frozen margaritas and the machine was broken. The bartender was amazing and had this really cool way of mixing the drinks and checking to make sure they were perfect. A member of the security staff comes up to my two female friends, and informs them "you're done, it's time to leave." A little surprised by this since the two of them were quietly chatting at the second story railing, they question him. He then proceeded to start pushing the two towards the exit, again saying, "you'r done ladies." Seeing this I run over to find out what possible reason this was happening. Apparently one had dropped a drink off the railing into the floor below. After a short back and forth with the security guard, me, the two girls, two more of my friends all started leaving. The security guard followed us as he and I went back and forth verbally. As we were exiting I was walking backwards towards the door. The verbal back and forth continued as he started shoving me in my chest in what seemed an attempt to knock me over. With each shove, I gently tapped the bill of his hat with my index finger. As we made it to the top of the stairs, I made one last quip to emasculate the smaller guy, and he attempted to ump over the railing to attack me. I put my hand out to stop him, gently grabbed his has and tossed it a few feet behind him in attempt to buy time and get out of Maggie Mae's. A security guard was waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs. As I was about five steps from the bottom, the smaller security guard had ran down the stairs and attempting to tackle me from behind by jumping onto my back and choking me. I maintained my balance, trying to shrug him as I continued down the stairs. The older, balding security guard proceeds to come at me, and I grab his head with both hands to lock up. He begins punching my chest and sides. Still, I continue towards the door. As we get into the doorway, a third security guard from inside headbutts me in the side. This was my last conscious memory. From video I have seen and friend accounts, I was able to derive the following. A fourth staff member hit me as the gang drove me past the sidewalk and onto the street. Limp and motionless, the attacker continued to choke me for roughly ten seconds after I was already unconscious on the street. The gang proceeded to kneel on me shoving of any defendants, and ignoring any pleas for reason. A short time after coming to, I was informed by APD that Maggie Mae's "no longer" wished to press charges on me read more
