My husband and I have visited Austin twice, first time during Christmas and the most recent during the Austin Marathon. We spent a lot of time going to the bars on 6th Street, but the one we always ended our night with was the Gnar Bar. The owner of the establishment and staff were amazing. They knew how to make an array of different cocktails, and treated us like locals. We never had to wait for a drink, as was the issue with other bars. At quite a few of the other bars we went to, staff didn't interact with the customers, they were either on their phones or talking with friends who stopped in. I highly recommend. I was out on dirty one night with my friends as we were celebrating our friends birthday. I'm typically not a bartender's favorite as I do not drink alcohol however, Justin, the bartender was extremely kind and friendly and offered to make me a mocktail. He gave me some options for flavors, and I left it in his hands. I was honestly blown away by the service because most times on dirty if I order anything NA or a mocktail they just give me cranberry juice. Justin really put thought into something that would taste good and could enjoy while with my group of friends. Everyone was great and we enjoyed the service so we stayed the entire night! read more

Visited May 20th, 2026 around 11pm. Trashy bartender. She was nice until she wasn't. She made shitty drinks and when we told her they were bad-we didn't ask for a refund or remake them or anything-she was bitchy we said it wasn't what we asked for!! I've been to bars where they've messed up drinks and they have happily remade it--even dive bars will be happy to remake it YOU WORK FOR TIPS!!?? this place is so bad. The live music was SO LOUD and they sucked. Tried to do covers of songs and this band did not even know the words to the songs they weren't even singing half the time. For a bar with live music you'd figure it would know the songs they're playing. Bartender was trashy and terrible and might have been drunk and the music was bad. If you want a jump scare, head to the back for a scare in the vending machines and punch bag machine.... It's filled with intimate items in the back in the machines! So messed up!!??? Stumbled upon this place last Monday because of the 90s-2000s punk & alt rock music blaring on to 6th. The cover band (Dad Genes) was awesome and very entertaining. The drinks were cheap and the bartender was super friendly. We stayed for over an hour, but could have stayed longer. It was a blast! Would recommend if you love Punk, Emo or Alt Rock music. read more

This was a great find while in Austin for us! They had a really delicious drink called the Cream Soda, it's Dr Pepper, Rumchata, and vodka. I highly recommend this to anyone! We all loved it and got 3! My other friend got a Lone Star. The bartender was very nice and had fast service, that was a major plus! Some days they have vibrator races and the drink prices are very reasonable. I am definitely going to bring more people here! The music was awesome and everything was perfect! Definitely my new favorite bar when I am in Austin! Parking was not impossible to find, we paid for 3 hours and went here, it did cost us $23 though on a Sunday for 3 hours. YIKES!!! Bartender was extremely drunk and rude, accused us of not tipping when she hadn't even closed us out yet? She automatically included a 20% tip, we found this out after spending 10 minutes waiting for her trying to be sober enough to print it out. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. Here in Austin for the first time for a friends birthday & we were drawn in by the live music. We walked in and immmedietky were hit with the raunchy smell of BO. We then ordered drinks.. did not get them. We decided it was time to go and when we tried to close our tab the bartender looked at us with a blank stare and refused to close our tab. When one of us asked to close our tab the bartender flipped us off .. it was clear she was either on drugs or very drunk. One of the gentleman there was very helpful. He came and closed about an apologized. He might be the only professional that worked there. Gave very much cult drugged vibes. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. The bar back or security was also very drunk and creepy. When we left our uber driver told us that many people get drugged there and it's very scary. Can't give a worse review. read more

Oh this place was awful . I came in not knowing that if I wanted to smoke that whatever show was going on would tease me for no reason. I have a disability and the guy on stage also the recommended smoking area would bombard me with insults. I had to see my psychiatrist the next day I was traumatized and I still am. Rude bartender. Asked for a trash can and they acted like they had no idea what we were talking about even though it is a common drink!

We had a wonderful time here, the bartenders and manager were extremely nice, to the point we came back here twice in the same night. I signed my receipt at the end of the night, left an almost 100% tip for what I was charged, then TWO days later I am charged ~$120 ONLINE from this bar. I didn't sign anything for this amount, this is an extremely shady practice. Watch your transactions after going to this establishment!!! read more

My friends and I were the only people at the bar. I asked for a vodka Red Bull, and the bartender started making it sugar free without asking. Stealing, Fraud? No thank you. I was visiting Austin, TX and came here during the SXSW (South by Southwest Festival) with a few friends. There was live music and the doorman was very nice. Things turned a corner when it came to ordering a drink. The tab was supposed to be $5 but the bartender charged my card $20. I brought it to his attention that I believed I had been over charged and bartenders response I got was just insane. His reply to my concern was "I know I did, so what?" Wow. I cannot in good faith support a business that is publicly committing a crime willfully. So I want to make our yelp community aware. No one should have to go through this.
