This my husbands go to spot for anything sport related. My husband is a Philadelphia fan and this is a Philadelphia bar. Makes sense right ? The crowd is always fun and it's a great place to watch other games too (as long as the Eagles or Flyers aren't playing)! We came here most recently on a Thursday night because it's half off cheesesteaks night starting at 6:30. I've tried a lot of Philly Cheesesteaks and the #4 is pretty darn close to my favorite one in Philadelphia! They usually have other sweet deals during the week too. I definitely would recommend making a trip out here for the cheesesteaks, especially if you're a fan of the ones from Philly! read more

First off I didn't know this was an "Eagles" bar... Coming from a Cowboys fan, I won't let that stop me from giving this place 5 full stars! I had my birthday party here last Saturday and they were more than accommodating. They cut off the entire lower bar for my shindig for 3 hours. The food was amazing! The Cheese Steaks went so fast I had to order another tray, Wings were delicious and the Crab pretzels were scrumptious! Sarah, Matt and Joe took care of my party well after they had to open up the bar to other customers. Thanks so much and we will definitely be back!!! Oh and by the way! Ok now, I came here to watch the NBA All-Star Game... Surprised to find out that they had it playing NOWHERE in the building, some other gentlemen sitting next to me where also wondering why the game wasn't playing, so I inquired about it and the bartender nicely put the game on ONE of the many TV's. Had the burger... It was DRY (bartender made the mistake that most do, assuming that because i'm BLACK I want a well-done burger) and the Bacon piece that I paid a dollar for was so small I had to search for it... Listen up Philly people!! I've been living and working in Baltimore for about four weeks now and, overall, it is not fun. I was in a real funk--feeling all sorts of homesick and lonely on my day off. So I decided to check out a bar that is known as the Philadelphia Bar of Baltimore to watch tonight's first Eagles game. I expected to arrive at the bar and meet a few Baltimore townies and meet some fellow Eagles fans. But what I got was a mob scene of people in eagles gear who welcomed me with open arms as I stepped in the bar. This is the typical Federal Hill joint. Actually this is the most stereotypical of all Fed Hill spots...full of young, semi-wealthy, but well dressed smiling people. I can not say that the crowd is friendly. Usually people go there in packs and hang out with each other as opposed to being social. It was a good place to watch the final four though. As for food...yum yum yum. The sushi is by far the best in Fed Hill (yes even Nichi Ban). Try the spicy tuna roll. The sauce that is drizzled over them is both creamy and spicy and the cut of tuna is meaty and generous. Maybe I'm biased but being an Eagles and Ohio State Fan, this place is now my go-to sports bar in Baltimore. Definitely appreciate the homage to all the cheesesteak places in Philly (Jim's, Pat's, Geno's, etc.). That being said, the cheesesteaks at Magerk's are nothing to sniff at though. Decided to get the cheesesteak hoagie, which is different than my usual whiz wit, but had heard good things about the hoagie. Definitely meaty, and the bread has the right chew and toasted feel. Comes with Utz chips, so we also got an order of fries with it as well. Reasonably priced, and delicious. Pretty good selection of beers, and they also do have other food specials depending on the day (1/2 price burgers on Sunday), as well as bucket of beer specials. Gotta love that. My one qualm is how there are still bits of Ravens paraphernalia around the bar. C'mon son. Ravens can have the other thousand bars in the city for that. Let us have this one. Make sure you get here early on gameday, because even though there is a large downstairs and upstairs space, it gets packed pretty quickly. I used to hang out at this location when it was tio locos, till it closed in the mid 90's. so I found myself with three kids in tow, we left cross street market with some cake and sweets, figured we'd find a nice bench where they could enjoy the nice weather and eat the sweets. but a clean park bench in baltimore... what was I thinking. so we gave magerk's a try, $3 guinness pints and all. they suggested we may enjoy the courtyard and it was exactly what we were looking for. the kids enjoyed the sweets, they didn't mind that we brought food in. and we had a safe, clean, quiet place to enjoy the sun. so we went back the next week and tried their food. we were not disappointed. the veggie burger was great and HUGE (two patties). and they philly cheese steak... was freakin awesome! #1 son enjoyed sushi... Two couples came in after us and he served them without even coming over to us. Called other couple we were going to meet there and changed plans for dinner. Came back here a few weeks ago with some out of town friends to nurse a hangover. It was a beautiful day, so sitting at the bar with all the windows and doors wide open was ever so pleasant. Our bartender was fantastic. Very friendly and chatty, full of good suggestions and stories. She recommended the chicken cheesesteak with American cheese and she was not wrong. My entire life I've been eating cheesesteaks wrong, i.e. with provolone. Boy was I missing out. This cheesesteak was amazing. Toasty roll with soft insides, perfectly moist, thin sliced chicken, topped with ooey gooey American cheese that all melded together perfectly. I don't even remember if the fries or onion rings were good, this sub was amazing. I have cheesesteak cravings regularly now. I had low expectations of this place from paint night and late night bar hopping, but don't miss these cheesesteaks. Holy cow. read more

Well I've only been here twice and only eaten here once. One of those times I saw a woman's boobs, and the other time it took about 45 minutes for my friend's cheesesteak to arrive. Also, you can't sub fries? Have to order a side order of fries. Lame (although, the fries were tasty). Bartenders, however, are always friendly. It's a place that has beer and food and that's about it. And it's pretty expensive, overall. Like, mozz-sticks-are-over-five-dollars kinda prices. This place is seriously like a hidden gem... not in so far as you have to try hard to find it, or that people don't know about it, but because it's seriously so much better than it seems at first glance. We probably aren't the typical Magerk's clientele (not fratty, not on a softball/kickball team), but nonetheless we find ourselves here several times a week because the food is AWESOME and the prices are CRAZY cheap. Where else do you know where you can get four Yuengling and three delicious orders of sushi (AMAZING shrimp tempura and California roll with REAL crabmeat!) for $20? I know it seems completely ridiculous to order sushi at a giant college-style sports bar, but it's so so good and totally reasonably priced - $6/roll, and the rolls are a good size and full of shrimp or crab or whatever you order. And on Tuesday they're only $4! Also, the cheesesteaks are really really rad. We've only ever had them on Thursday night, when they're $4 and canned Boh is like $1.50 or something... but they're super delicious, the hot peppers are HOT, you can get crispy salami (??!!) on them, and they come with Utz potato chips. Cheap cold beer, delicious bar food... the tab is rarely over $20... and the bartenders are always super nice and half the time they end up comping us a drink or two... I LOVE MAGERK'S! read more

I am going to base this review off of their cheesesteak solely, the ambiance in on itself if you are in your early 20's and you like extremely loud music and bud light this will likely be a good place for you. I for one i crossed that bridge a long time ago, any how on a Sunday at 6:30 the place seemed like they had been partying all night long. I ordered my cheeseteaks to go because a) frankly the last thing i want to deal with is loud music and drunkeness on a sunday night and b) just eyeballing the place i didnt know were i would sit and carry on a decent conversation. Skip Magerks for a weekend night out--unless your idea of a good time includes pop music and popped collars---but do go for some of the best happy hour specials in town. Highlights include Wednesdays (50 cent wings), Thursdays ($4 cheese steaks) and especially Tuesdays (half price munchies and $4 sushi rolls!) Yes, Magerks Pub and Grill has some of the best sushi in town at great prices. The selection is small (only about 6 roll choices) but all of them are consistently awesome. Make sure you get the lime wasabi mayo and chili garlic sauce on absolutely everything. The ahi tuna wrap is a perfect sandwich (ask for it seared if you don't love raw) and I love how it comes with a side of edamame rather than the usual chips or fries. You won't get waitresses in kimonos or that Japanese bubble gum, but you will get some of the freshest fish around at this unlikely sushi-serving pub. read more

What could be better than an Eagle's bar in Baltimore? Having grown up as a long time Philly fan, moving to a city where the Ravens rule has been a challenge. At least I know that there is one place that I can wear a McNabb jersey and not get a beer bottle thrown at me (yes, it has happened). A Federal Hill sports bar with Philadelphia all over it, it is no surprise that this place makes one of the greatest cheesesteaks around. Combine that with a Blue Moon, some friends, and a football game and you've got one good Sunday afternoon ahead of you. Even more surprising is the sushi. I was skeptical at first too, but the spicy tuna roll was pretty fantastic and ranks up there with some of my other favorite sushi restaurants. At night on the weekends this place takes on more of a dance "club" type atmosphere. As the night gets later, the music gets louder and you'll be lucky if you can even fit between people to access the bar, restroom, or exits for that matter. The upstairs becomes a dance floor and while the music selection is hit or miss, I'm usually happy to hear a good amount of Bon Jovi (yeah, I'm a Jersey girl). Surreal. That is how I describe Magerk's. The other day one of my girlfriends asked if I wanted to grab bite in Fed Hill. Sure. It had been a while since we got together and complained about the men in our life, talked about celebrity gossip, and compared shoe shopping notes. Okay not exactly, but it was nice to have a girl's night. We went to Magerk's because she had a craving for a sushi sandwich. "Huh?" I said. I must have heard wrong so ignored it. We walked into the bar and it was very busy for a Wednesday night. People were in kickball t-shirts were bumping into each other, the music was blaring, and tv screens were everywhere. I was just grateful I am not epileptic. We ordered beer in plastic pint cups careful not to slosh them, as we carefully staked out tables in the room. When became available we pounced. Our server was bustling around like a mad woman. We could not be mad at her as we saw watched her ability to pour and serve so many tables at once. When we finally got our menu, I realized my friend was not crazy. There really was a sushi sandwich on the menu. To be more specific sushi grade tuna slightly seared served in a wrap with spicy mayonnaise. We ordered two. Okay so I just ordered sushi (sort of) in an Irish/college bar with the sushi chef being a tall African American man who worked at a cramped space at the end of the bar. And I was about to eat my words. The sandwich was excellent. The quality of the tuna was amazing, the sauce was spicy, and the lettuce was surprisingly refreshing and a perfect counterpoint. I took my boyfriend here for bday drinks. I thought it was just a regular sports bar. But I was wrong. The food was really good. We were here on a Wednesday night for wing night. The wings were really good, and of course the price was excellent. And I also had the crab pretzel. I am a very picky eater, but it was very filling and had a good amount of crabmeat. My friend got the cheesesteak, which he raves about. On Thursdays they are $4. But the prices are pretty reasonable. I will definitely come here again. I was also told that the cheese steaks are AMAZING, but I didn't find them anything to rant and rave about (not that I wouldn't have one again though). New to Federal Hill area and still getting around. Had a hankering for a Chicken Cheesesteak and everything I read said Magerks was the place to go. Probably didn't help ordering 20 minutes before the grill closed, but chicken cheesesteak (and a small pack of chips) was in a paper bag by register when I arrived 12 minutes later. Expected to be impressed; was instead disappointed. Just didn't taste right. Perhaps chicken packed too tightly, maybe too dry (used to being juicy with mayo, lettuce, and tomato), or maybe it was because the sub roll was mammoth (hard to taste with all that bread). Bottom line: not impressed and have to believe someone in Federal Hill makes a tastier chicken cheesesteak. read more

We were looking for a place to watch a Broncos playoff game, and a little research found that Magerk's was where the local Broncos club hangs out. Located on the corner of Cross Street in Federal Hill, Magerk's is a pub among pubs. The lower level has two bars in two rooms, and there is an upper level with another bar and dance floor/rowdy section. I was worried about seating and service at such a busy time, but we found a seat in easy view of some widescreens (they have many) and the bartended worked the room constantly keeping everyone happy. They have lots of sandwiches and other pub grub, but we opted for their signature "Eagles" - chicken wings served slathered in cheese and hot sauce. Just as messy and decadent as they sound, and great with the large beer selection that was offered. This is a bar to go to if you really want to enjoy the bar experience. read more

This place seemed to be a complete free for all. I have never been here before so I don't know if they have security or not, but they definitely need to look into getting some. People freely entered without being carded and there was no consideration for how packed the place was. People were so packed into this place you could hardly move and it felt like the place was on the verge of collapse. But I was meeting up with friends to celebrate a birthday, so I felt obligated to squeeze through the crowd and make my way upstairs. The entire place reeked of vomit and there were so many bodies the heat was practically unbearable. It took forever to get a beer and it was so packed I couldn't even enjoy my drink. The only thing I liked about this place was the great music but it wasn't enough to keep me around since there was no room to dance to it anyway. What really put me over the edge was the guy that decided to urinate inside of the bar! You heard me -- he just unzipped and started going. I can try to have a good time in a crowded bar with crappy service, but bodily fluids just put me over the edge. I left the place before I had the opportunity to witness anyone stepping in his puddle of pee. I wish it were possible to give zero stars, that's how bad my first and only experience was here. I was surprised to see the other reviews were so positive. I think that the night I went (Halloween Eve) was crazier than usual, but no bar should ever be this disgusting. Awsome place! Traveled from Boston to BAL for a conference at the Marriott. Found Magerks Pub by accident and we are so happy we did. Came in on a Friday for lunch and opening day... best choice ever. Staff was great, cheap drinks, and great atmosphere. We loved it so much we came back Saturday before our flight. My friends and I look forward to coming to BAL for a Red Sox game. We will be sure to come here! read more

Magerk's is a very busy place, there are many times on a weekend when you can barely find a place to stand, nuch less comfortably eat. Young crowd of people that like to have a good time. I am writing this review for the cheesesteak sandwich. I went there on a monday night for a little football, sandwich and a beer. The place was still very busy but my service was very prompt. The sandwich was outstanding. Stuffed with tender and juicy steak and fresh veggies. I really loved it ... plenty of TVs around for any sports you are interested in and the wait staff really was great. I only downgrade because I have had slightly better cheesesteaks (outside of Baltimore) and the place is noisy and it is not always easy to get in there. read more

Awesome bar with very good bar food. We went for an Eagles game and it was pretty packed, but the servers and bartenders come around frequently to ensure that everyone is served. My table ordered a meatball sub, buffalo chicken eggrolls, tater tots, and wings. The meatball sub was large (I only ate half) but it was so delicious. The meatballs were well seasoned. You get a large amount of tater tots, enough for 3 people to share. My husband did not care for the wings because they were spicy. I liked the wings, but they were skimpy for me. I need a lot of meat on my wings. This is a very good spot for Eagles fans, great atmosphere. I will definitely come back to try a cheesesteak as well as the other menu items. read more

I felt way over dressed at Magerk's. And by overdressed I do not mean that what I was wearing was too formal. I mean that I was wearing too much...as in I was not showing enough leg, cleavage, and midriff. Oh, and my boyfriend's collar wasn't popped. We stuck out like a sore thumb. The place was also packed. It was impossible to dance upstairs, as there were so many people on the dance floor that I couldn't move an inch, let alone dance. So today was an eagles game vs atl, place is packed and you have 2 bartenders upstairs ? This place is never prepared for a crowd. The staff look irittated when they take an order but want to be tipped. Left at halftime to get food since trying to place an order is next to impossible. You would think some type of system would be in place to handle drink and food orders. Ive seen 100 eagles games there and love my fans , and their food is food. Came here one rainy afternoon for some half off cheesesteaks. The place was packed and they had to bring in wet chairs from outside and set up a makeshift table.... Cheeseteaks were good, not great. It was only $4 that day but they're usually $8. No way is it worth $8. I also got their spicy tuna sushi roll....who would've thought that a loud, american bar would offer sushi? I was like WTF?! This bar is the worst. Two week in a row a guy was bothering me and the bar staff did nothing. When a man stood up instead of a woman then all of the sudden the bar staffs attention was taken. This is great staple of Federal Hill. I go here to watch almost any sporting event also anytime when I am down in that area after tailgating. It's tends to swing toward a Philly bar, but it also supports the local teams as well. The food is very good. They have cheese steaks that are some of the best in town. You have to get Wiz to appreciate. They also have sushi which also looks very solid. Lots of people eating it. Tons of beer specials during the week. It does get pretty busy after 10pm. read more

I had to come back and revise this review because something changed! Was it the sushi chef? Was it the quality of seafood used? Must have been both! Before, the rolls were pretty massive and delicious. Now, they shrank to a wee size and tasted well, unsatisfactory and fishy. Have to admit the entire sushi meal was dissatisfying...Bummer! I wish my original review were still true but something changed... Not typically a bar goer, but I have to share that this is Baltimore's best kept secret for Sushi.
