We had the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer and that was great as well. The sweet tea hit the spot and we got some to go. We also got a slice of buttermilk pie to go and it survived our ride back to the Augusta area and was still great. I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 because I was seated next to a door and the cold air was doing a number on me. Also think we came in during a shift change and it took a while for us to be attended to. The service was great but the food could have been a little better. They have a bunch of daily specials which is really cool. My wings were dry and my wife's steak was really bland. We stopped in here on our way to the high school football game. The staff were helpful and kind. The restaurant looked like a neighborhood pub and families were inside dining. It is located on the main strip in the downtown area. We were going to take our food to-go but decided to stay and eat there. We paid right at $30 for two sandwiches and two drinks. The food was good. It could have been seasoned a bit more, but it was good. The service was good too. All of the employees we interacted with were so kind and polite. There are televisions on several walls so this would be a good place to come and watch the game. There was also another seating area past the bathrooms. read more

Obviously this spot was doing a good business as they were super busy. The waitress was kind and took care of any special requests. They were a little slammed which probably accounted for the slower than desired service. The Patty melt left me lacking. The club sandwich was ok but needed something to up the flavor. I think the stars of the show were the sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter and the spinach dip with thin, crispy tortilla chips . The restrooms were clean and the staff were friendly. Madison Chop House Grill is always a stop on our drive to North Carolina. We actually plan our departure time for our trip so that we are passing through Madison at lunch time. My husband always gets the same thing, fried pork chops, and I try something different each time we stop. This stop I had the rib eye tips with mushroom brown gravy and mashed potatoes with a house salad. We also shared some fried green tomatoes. I have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered. The vidalia onion salad dressing is my favorite. The restaurant is downtown, quaint and has indoor and outdoor seating. The servers are always helpful with suggesting their favorite dishes if you have a difficult time making a decision. I would suggest stopping by and giving it a try. read more

Environment was great, decorations very comfortable, staff was super helpful, good country folks, menu was great and prices were good. Drinks came out quick and were good, but then our food came out.... crash and burn. "Chop house", right? Like steaks, right? So had to order a steak, broccoli and baked sweet potato. Broccoli was pretty sad, baked potato really under-cooked. It should be all mushy but was still really solid, couldn't saw much of it out of the skin. The steak "looked" good, and the seasoning was great, perfectly medium rare, but OMG.... this things was more a lot more fat than meat. Like 3/4 fat if not more. Could not stomach much of it and had to work to find actual meat. My wife had fish, seasoned well but was really, really dry, and mashed potatoes were like instant. We really wanted it to be good, but even with the good prices, the food was not worth the money. Maybe an off night, seemed really popular so maybe an off night. I would say maybe not what we should have ordered, but others nearby were ordering the same thing. Stopped in with friends while in town for a tournament on Oconee. Read the reviews of the spots in town & felt this was a good spot for good food & bar. Nice restaurant for families, couples or solo at the bar. We were Four guys - we ordered the shrimp & fried green tomatoes app which were both very good in portion, prep & taste. Very good. One steak dinner, a one pork chop dinner, shrimp & grits and the oldest dude ate like a teenager and had chicken tenders & fries. We ordered 2 sides of fried okra - all agreed it needed another min or two to cook but was still very good. Here is the only negative thing, and to our table- when you walk into a restaurant & by the bar... look up & see Blanton's, Eagle Rare & other excellent bourbons our heart skips a beat. NICE! But when you order an Old Fashioned & it comes with maraschino cherries - you ruin the entire experience. For the love of all things pure - order COCKTAIL CHERRIES! A good bartender would swing by Ingles & buy a couple of jars. Unacceptable. Period. Do better. I normally don't leave reviews so this is pretty huge for me to leave on this time. My daughter and I walked in excited because this place was recommended by two people that lives local. We live over an hour away but came to buy something off of Facebook marketplace nearby. Once we walked in, we were not greeted for at least 3-5 minutes while a worker was small talking with a couple and not even noticing us (not a huge deal) finally once that girl was done talking she took us to a table. After that, no show waitress and there was only 3 families in the restaurant at the time and two ladies at the bar. The waitress locked eyes with me and I gave her the signal that we were ready to at least order drinks even though I know what we wanted because we looked at the menu before arriving incase they were busy. She looked away and went to the kitchen and never saw her again. So we decided to leave unfortunately because I was looking forward to the food based on reviews and word of mouth.. Coming from the Foodservice sales side, I'm not harsh or judgy and I gave them ample opportunity to earn my business and I usually leave big tips as well. Maybe next time.. I wasn't familiar with the area but I was meeting friends who were passing through and we decided to give this place a try. The service was fairly quick. There wasn't a wait when we arrived so we were seated almost immediately. We placed the appetizer order along with the food order and both came out at the same time, no biggie. Appetizer were 6 lemon pepper wings and my main meal was 1 grilled pork chop with a glaze on top with baked sweet potatoes and green beans. The meal was okay. No frills, everything done the way it was supposed to be done, no surprise, no wow factor. Just a simple meal at a decent price. My only issue were the looks and stares from the "locals" apparently, we had an invisible sign that we were not from the area so after a the kids were finished eating, we left. Better experience today. Our server never once made us feel rushed even though we were at our table a long time. She was very pleasant. She kept our drinks refilled & checked in on us frequently, while making sure she wasn't annoying us. I think we all tipped her accordingly. As for my meal, next time I'd select a different sandwich. I tried the fried green tomato BLT. While it tasted good, when I got to the 2nd half, the tomato batter was mushy. Next time I plan to try the chicken salad sandwich or the club. Located in charming downtown Madison and within a few minutes walk of our hotel in town. IMO, good food at a good price in a nice place! I started my dinner with a cup of a French Onion soup for $5.99 (it was served in the traditional crock that French Onion soup is served in, so I cannot imagine how big a bowl of this soup would have been!) I took off most of the cheese was it was way too much for me. The soup was flavorful with plenty of onions and croutons/bread squares. I chose the vegetable plate for dinner (supposely $10.00 - Read on). The menu said choice of three sides and it gave a handful of options from which to choose. I opted for the baked potato (server didn't advise me that the loaded spud was 99 cents more - no biggie, but I think she should have advised me). Then I opted for green beans which were on the menu but not listed as an option for the veggie plate, and I also opted for a side salad (again, on the menu, but not listed as an option for the veggie plate.) I didn't know until I received my bill that this was an additional $2.00 to switch out a veggie for the salad. Again, no problem, but when I asked the server if I could make a change, she didn't mention an upcharge. I have been here twice and I've had two very different experiences. The first time we went, the food was over cooked and the service was slow. This day that we went, they were pretty busy. We tried this again when it wasn't super crowded and the food was much much better and came out pretty quick. We came in on a Saturday night with a fairly large party and they were able to accommodate us right away and put us in one of the back rooms to ourselves and it was perfect. We try to stay away from chain restaurants when we are traveling. While searching Yelp, this place popped up so we stopped. It's only a couple of miles off the interstate and well worth it. We LOVE Chophouse. With that said, last night I was disappointed in what I saw. The GM, Paul I believe, decided to have a very heated conversation with an employee outside on the patio. As many know, the patio side of the building is all windows. That side of the restaurant (which was very busy on a Friday night) witnessed this entire interaction. It was very disappointing to see the GM have a heated discussion with another employee (a younger female) out in the open. It took another employee walking out there and saying enough before he stopped the heated conversation and came back inside. Service to everyone in the restaurant was delayed bc of what was happening and what the waitresses had to deal with. I believe that was not their fault at all, but still had an affect on the restaurant. Please know that we have never had anything but the best service and the best food at Chophouse. This situation was just something that should have never happened in front of all of us. UPDATE - Our wonderful waitress who we have had several times, and the one who went out on the patio to stop the shop/disput was fired afterwards. I am absolutely baffled at how she was actually fired. She was the one who had had enough of the clearly heated conversation that the whole side of the restaurant was watching as they were eating dinner. I believe her name is Lexi and she is a teacher at Morgan County Elementary School with our special education students. Disappointing to hear she was fired. read more

We heard so many good things about the Chop House Grill so we went there tonight for my Birthday.... very disappointed.... my daughter and I ordered the Jefferson Street Sirloin... she ordered hers medium well... it came out more like medium rare. I ordered mine well done.... it came out tough dry and no flavor at all! My Husband had the Ribeye he said his was alright but he wouldn't make a special trip there for it. Our son had the Reuben he said the meat was a little tough but it was good. Now the worst part was the service! It was so bad I wanted to walk out! No refills, No check ins, No asking how everything was. We sat there for 20 minuets just waiting on another server to find our server to ask for our ticket. I'm not one to not leave a tip but I tell you what I seriously thought about leaving her zero! We will not go back and definitely would not recommend it. read more
