Tonight we had my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner at Madigan's. The bacon wrapped shrimp was superior . There was also a lovely cheese platter and we loved the open bar. They did a great job serving us and it was a lovely event. The upstairs room on the waterfront provided a fabulous venue and on a sunny autumn day -it was perfect. Delicious Food, Amazingly Classy & Fun Ambience, Very Friendly Staff, & Great Service. The seafood was very fresh and tasty, the portions were generous, and everything was reasonably priced. All the food was awesome, but the crab chowder was the bomb! And rumor has it that their Tomato Florentine Soup, Crab Cakes and Steak are equally amazing. My outside picture does not do the view justice since it was a gloomy day. You can go casual and enjoy live music and great views outside along the water, or dress to impress and fine dine in their elegant restaurant. The upstairs venue is perfect for private parties. I can't wait to bring my wife here, since the place comes to life at night with great live entertainment like Dueling Pianos. What a great find! read more

Ordered a beer, never got it, and when asked for it the server said "oh we're out" asked for a different beer again, never got it, and when asked again (toward the end of everyone's meal now) they said they don't have that one either. After reading the reviews for Madigan's Waterfront I had very low expectations. However, the overall experience was great. Our server was wonderful, very friendly and attentive. We were a group of twelve and he did an amazing job to meet all of our need and he did it in a very enthusiastic way. The food was good. I tried their bbq ribs and their dirty chicken pasta and both were good. We sat in the outdoor part and it had an amazing view to the lake. There are also kayak rentals right outside of the restaurant. read more

Madigan's gets one star because I can't give it less and still write a review. Friends were coming from out of town and wanted to try it. My wife and I had eaten there about four years ago, and we didn't think much of it then, but we decided to give it a shot. We got a decent table with a river view which was where the enjoyment ended. I ordered a half dozen raw oysters and should have known when the server asked if I'd like fried oysters "if" they were out of raw. She delivered the fried oysters. They were Luke warm and came with " cocktail sauce" that was just ketchup. Our friends had shrimp cocktail and they said they were very good. Two of us ordered bouillabaisse, my wife ordered crab cakes, and my friend ordered prime rib medium rare. Our appetizers came out and within a minute the entrees also arrived. Nothing was hot. The prime rib looked well done. The crab cakes were all filling with a tiny bit of crab in the center. The bouillabaisse was not by any stretch of the imagination bouillabaisse. In all fairness it did have a sufficient amount of seafood, the seafood was served on top of a bed of what I suspect was Uncle Bens original long grain wild rice. It was smothered with what was basically thick marinara sauce. Around the edge of the platter covered in the spaghetti sauce was thinly sliced soggy, toasted bread. My friend mentioned to the server that all of our food had been cold. A manager came out and asked us about our dining experience, and we gave him our opinions. He said he would adjust our bill, and we explained that that was not needed, but he did subtract $40.00 from the bill. The server tried to explain that the kitchen was "swamped" but aside from about 30 people sitting on the outside deck, the dining area was not even close to filled. Mr or Mrs Madigan, you probably have the most outstanding location between Alexandria Va and Richmond. Fire your can and box opening kitchen staff, pony up and bring in a talented chef and kitchen staff. You would have an incredible success. You are probably doing ok, but certainly nothing to be proud of. read more

We have been here before from a previous positive experience last year, when I proposed to my Wife right next to the restaurant there is a Gazebo. We just got married a couple days ago, and I wanted to take her out again to celebrate. So we went back where I got down on 1 knee, and for all the gentlemen out there, I untied my shoelace and got down on my knee to tie it and that's how I proposed by singing some lyrics by Train: Marry Me. ;D Goofy but yet smart and I got a YES! ;) So anyways thank you again Madigan's Waterfront for 2 great positive experiences. Great location in the cutest little town! This restaurant backs right up to the river! Great patio seating that is heated! Hush puppies and corn fritters are delicious as well as the loaded baked potato soup! The carne dish was great as well. Only think holding back from a five star is that my dish came out not hot but I let my waitress know and she was quick and eager to fix the issue! We would definitely come back! read more

2 stars for the location only. I ordered the avocado toast with salmon and it was cold when it arrived which meant it didn't taste good at all. My hubby got the spinach and feta omelette and that was good. We sat outside which was good but the seating could be a little more roomier. Our waiter wasn't as attentive as we hoped. Madigan's is in a nice location in historic Occoquan and it is right by the water so there is a nice view and atmosphere especially if you eat out on the deck. I used to really enjoy this place but for the last number of years the food has been well below average and the service isn't usually the best. If you just want a place to get a drink and look out at the water then come here but don't expect much more than that. read more

I've only eaten outside here. Once in the tiki bar area for dinner and the second (this past Monday, 4/16) on the deck for lunch. My mom and I stopped here on our way back to Alexandria from Ikea. The weather Monday was gorgeous but hot in the direct sunlight. Madigan's lower deck is covered so we were able to sit outside, next to the water without being cooked by the sun. My mom started with the soup of the day, a white bean with smoked ham. This was quite tasty. I had the crab cream soup and it was lovely. For our mains, my mom had the crab cake sandwich and I had the Big Fish (haddock). The crab cake was on the smaller side but was well seasoned, full of crab, and very little filler. The Big Fish is exactly that, a BIG piece of haddock. It was lightly breaded, not too greasy, and cooked well. It normally comes with fries, but since I had the soup I asked the server to leave them off so I can't comment on how Madigan's fries taste. Lovely weather, tasty food, and good service. I will definitely make a return trip to Madigan's on a day when I can once again sit outside. read more

APril 26,2021, around 630 pm. Awesome crab appetizer sampler is awesome. However. I ordered the prime rib and is was seared, tough, not good at all. My friend who is a chef from a top culinary school, ordered the fish 3 ways and within 30 minutes, she was vomiting from what she ate. We notified the staff. Instead we got a chef who had the audacity to say to my friend, " everyone says you're pregnant". Btw, neither of us can have children. Me because of my military service and her because of a hysterectomy. Oh and BTW, thank you for personally reminding me that I can never have kids. You are a fucking asshole. As if I needed to explain that to you. So instead of taking responsibility for your shortcomings, you want to accuse us of defrauding you. The chef and the cook staff are extremely sexist and can't even take responsibility for making horrible inedible food. It's such a shame that the cook staff are horrible, the restaurant is beautiful and has a primo location. Food and cook staff need to be upgraded. What's the worst about the whole thing, I have friends friends that eat here religiously and came on their recommendations. Probably a good thing they had Covid and lost their taste buds in December. read more

I enjoy this place. I've always gone for dinner with friends but never just "hung out" there. The wait staff had always been friendly. The one time we were there the waitress didn't know much about the special menu, it was St. Patrick's Day, but that can be expected for those random special days. We've always had reservations and never had an issue getting in. There is free parking in the city lots. Just drive a little passed the restaurant and there are lots on both a sides of the street. Wine and beer here, so no frilly drinks. Never had dessert. Food is normal, nothing fancy but more focused on seafood. You can try it and it's a decent night out. read more

I arrived exactly at noon on a beautiful Saturday, and was still immediately seated outside. I ordered the crabcake sandwich with onion rings instead of fries. The sandwich pales in comparison to the Cosi crabcake melt, which is about $3 cheaper. The onion rings tasted like they were fresh out of a costco freezer. So I keep giving this place opportunities to improve. Location is great, food is mediocre and tonight the service was totally off. Our server ignored us when we sat down, but went directly to a table with a bigger party that sat down just after us. We had to flag down another server to take our order, still another one brought our food. Our designated server brought the kids ketchup after being asked twice and then the check (which of course was wrong). Omg this place. I dont know if I got lucky the one time I went there or if its bananas ALL the time...ok it's nice, nice setting, nice waterfront views...pretty. but I was there the other day to meet up with a friend and wait out rush hour...and it was nuts! This old (caucasian) man all decked out in Miami Dolphins gear comes in and starts hollering at one of the employees, a woman of color in a Redskins jersey. I think she was an employee anyways, otherwise I believe she'd have clobbered the guy..hes drunk definitely, and I hear him say blah blah blah BI**H! . OMG!!! She says "Wha..? SAY IT AGAIN??? And he did! With an "F-bomb" for good measure! The girl is NOT having it. She goes all the way classic movie style- tosses the drink in her hand in his FACE, and hurls the glass at the floor. I hear it shatter, and she's looking at the guy like she dares him to try her. I was worried for a moment because he was SO much bigger than her! The guy ultimately left, with patrons and employees shouting at his back. I thought this was supposed to be such an upper scale place! But anyway I couldnt begin to tell you about their food because we didn't stick around to try it after all that! read more

Edit: I visited the restaurant to find out what happened. Apparently, there was a confusion between another receipt that was for the same menu but with $5 tip. The bartender made a mistake in charging me the total amount of the other receipt and charging the other customer five dollars less. In the end though, the way I was treated by the manager was superb - the exact way how every customer should be treated. She made multiple apologies and showed me two receipts where the confusion came out of. I simply asked for $5 back in cash, but the manager offered $25 gift certificate from the restaurant. With that, I'm up'ing the stars from one to four because it wasn't a fraud intentionally committed by the restaurant. Hopefully when I visit this restaurant again, I'll be more impressed and give them five stars. Well, until then. ------------------------- Original post: Not sure how this happened, but I ordered the vegetarian pasta for carryout and I paid $17.39 with taxes and no tip, but my credit card statement shows I paid $22.39, which is exactly five dollars more than what I actually paid. I'm sorry, but there's no one else but the restaurant to blame for scams like this. I did not keep the receipt, but for the first time customer to pay $5 tip on a $15 carryout food purchase s/he has never had before with more than 20 minutes wait time makes absolutely no sense. I will return to the restaurant and confront the manager today, but the fact that I have already experienced such unpleasant fraud gives this place one star nonetheless. I was here for lunch using the coupon from Local Flavor. The manager of the restaurant, Mark Abraham, redeemed two coupons instead of one. When I challenged him, he swore he redeemed only one. When I showed him my transaction history from my Local Flavor account that he charged me twice, he told me that I had to fix his error myself. When I pushed it, he told me that he would contact Local Flavor for the correction. He never did. I am disappointed and upset at the way Mr. Abraham treated me as a customer. The food is ok honestly. It's really fancy inside and they have really nice brunch on sundays. The main reason I love this place is because the patio in the back. During the summer there is live music and they use to do cornhole tournaments. The atmosphere in the back on the water is the best around. You can have a quick drink and walk around the town of occaquann a Nd go to all the little stores. It's a pretty good time. read more

The restaurant is in a quite area of downtown Occoquan. There are several shops around that would make this a cute lunch date. It sits right on the water so I was think the seafood would be really fresh. Most of that things appetizing to me on the menu were fried. I am not a big fan of fried foods especially when you are right on the water. I order the crab stew and the mahi mahi fish tacos. I wasnt impressed. The slaw on the tacos had a lot of vinegar and the fish was fried very hard. Crispy like chip. The french fries were great but to get fries is an up charge (weird). My friend ordered the shrimp po boy. It came out open faced and kind of hard to put your mouth around but she enjoyed it. The crab stew was ok. I finished it. But nothing to brag about. This is not on my top places to go back but the food was ok. Give it a try and you tell me. read more

It was ok. I sat outside at the Tiki Bar to enjoy the weather. The beer was cold and the tuna blt was pretty good. The vibe was off though. I'm not sure if I was just in a weird funk mood or if the people there seemed a little......i don't know, different. But, like I said it could have been me. This restaurant was sooo awesome. We had a fantastic server that delivered impeccable service. His is name was Ronnie and he has only been working their for one month. The drinks were amazing, the food presentation was divine, and the taste was unforgettable. The Sangria is a must cocktail, the Charcuterie Board was a great appetizer, and the Sea salad and the American Salad with Salmon was great.
