This isn't so much about the store, but about the brand. I've been a huge Madewell fan for at least the past 10 yrs. Lately, we're not in alignment as much. In the past, I depended on Madewell for consistently delivering on quality leather goods: tote bags for work, leather boots, loafers and cute casual bags. As an educator, those were my staples. They also had great smooth cotton graphics tees and my faves were when they'd collaborate with orgs such as the NY Botanical Gardens. Rummaging through the sale sections during off season is usually catch some great cardigans and blazers for the fall and great bandannas and jewelry to add a little razzle dazzle. Nowadays, the prices have risen astronomically. Little stackable earrings are now on average $58 and the clasps are weak and poorly made. One day after purchasing 2 pairs from this store, they're coming apart. Purchase a purse, the leather is trashy. A lot of the classics that myself and half the teachers at my school used to purchase have been removed from the rotation. Super annoying! Madewell, please get back to basics. This is a review only of the redhead manager. Everyone else is nice to work with. I would sincerely hope the person responsible for running a clothing retail location would understand what someone means by I would like the money refunded to my credit card and not on a gift card. She tried to embarrass the f out of me in front of a full line bc I asked to have my purchase returned to my credit card which was the means by which I made my purchase. Routinely saying "I'm not following you at all" "I am so confused what you're asking for" "you want to do what????" in a very snarky rude demeanor. The customer service was -100/10. Learn how to do your job and stop being rude. And also, no one should allow you to be customer facing. read more

We stopped in here to check out this cute location in Brooklyn and the clothes are definitely made well. I like the lay out and tried on a pair of jeans and they were too big. I like their merchandising! read more

I've never said this before about any store since I used to work in retail, but he truly does not deserve to be working with customers. Major props to the sweet and funny-as-hell employee who finally got this girl to look good in wide legged pants! Really - I'd totally checked out of this trend because my hips don't lie, and they also don't fit into boxy pants without creating a gap at the waistline that could fit a small child. I was in with my BFF, who is pushy AF and gives me needed prods out of my comfort zone. Through extrovert magic, she befriended this employee and the two of them brought me items of clothing I would never have considered. They have a sign on their door that says to please wait outside due to maximum capacity (an employee will come get you). I stood there for 5 min in the sun, made eye contact with every employee, and finally poked my head in. There wasn't a single customer inside. The employees were all standing in a circle socializing, choosing to not paying attention to the customers outside in the heat. Waste of time read more

Feels weird to Yelp a major corporate chain, but I just have to say that Angie at N 6th is incredible, and Madewell, you need to promote the hell out of her. She was efficient, knowledgeable, and so so so kind. Buying a pair of jeans may sound insignificant, but as a new mom trying to come to terms with my strange and bigger body, Angie's care and expertise made me feel like a million bucks. I had SUCH a wonderful experience here!! I went in to see if the stores carried extended sizes, and was warmly greeted and escorted to Natalie who was a total fairy godmother with jeans!!!! I usually am very uncomfortable trying on clothes in-store, much less JEANS, and I'm used to having a near impossible time finding my (plus) size; not to mention the body shame and judgment I've experienced historically in these situations. Not sure how or why this location does have great reviews - I'm always helped promptly and attentively! Most recently Vanna and Dana helped me find several pairs of jeans that I never would have thought looked good on me - they just knew size, color, fit!! Needless to say I tried on about 10 different pairs and asked a million annoying questions but they were exceptionally friendly and helpful. This Madewell store has been very "Brooklynized," if you will. The sales associates there are for the most part very professional and helpful. However, there was this one time I got free monograming done in store for a small wallet I bought a while back and they ruined it pretty badly! They pressed onto my wallet too hard and cracked the leather and the monogram gold foil was broken. I was so upset but they offered to send me a new one from another store, so lucky for them I was fine with the arrangement. The girls who monogrammed my wallet were talking while doing it and didn't pay careful attention to what they were doing. They are offering free monogram again this week, I don't know if I wanna take a risk although I really want to personalize a few of my Madewell items. read more

Not sure of the bad reviews here. I came here with my 1 year old (!) to try on some clothes. If you guys don't know 1 year olds, they're inpatient and basically monsters. The girls in the store helped this Mama out, and put up with my 1 year old daughter who decided she had to take off half of her own clothing in the dressing room and then try on all the sunglasses. They helped me get different sizes, and all were very sweet to my daughter. I even asked them about their current holiday discount online and they applied the 25% off to my order for me. Will be back (probably with my daughter again - sorry!). read more

After a mix up of phone cases not being in stock, Christine who I can only hope is a manager, was extremely helpful not to mention friendly and absolutely amazing customer service. She went above and beyond to make sure that I got what I needed. I am not only impressed but a new loyal customer now. I come from a retail background and I can say it is literally the best customer service I have ever had in my two years in NYC. In addition this store is clean and has really cute clothing and shoes, bags and jewelry with natural light and super nice employees. Whatever you pay that woman who helped me, double her salary. If you'd like to pay full price for items that are on sale both online AND at every other location in Manhattan, then look no further. High quality clothing, accessories, and leather goods - but priced to match. The staff here are very friendly and are extremely helpful with finding you a size, ordering online when not available in the store, or setting you up in one of their large fitting rooms. Overall the store is well kept (it recently opened) so shop here while not that many people know about it yet. This is the smallest Madewell with the biggest help I've ever visited. From telephone help to being taken care of by their great sales professionals to Anya, a personable and warm Manager who went out of her way to find great clothes for me, I will be happy to return. Not every item is right for me and my bod, but I find so many great clothes for hang and for work. Teachers note: this company likes us. Show your i.d. and you'll receive a discount. This Madewell is just fine. Like the JCrew in the neighborhood, this store very rarely has sales. They say they honor the online price, but still--you have to research the real price of items online before going in. They are often sold out of popular items. This was my favorite madewell I visited while in NYC. There is tons more room to move around, it's more organized, and the staff is 100x friendlier than the people I encountered in soho. The sale section was easier to shop. The stylists are amazing and are super helpful with any questions you may have. I love it here! read more

The shop is small so it doesn't always have everything you're looking for (which is why I gave it a 4) BUT this location is definitely the most pleasant of all the Madewell's I've been too. The sales staff are so nice, helpful, and professional. And it is never absurdly crowded like in Manhattan. If this location is in your vicinity, I highly recommend it. This Madewell is run by arrogant staff and snobbish employees. I really would hate to see this brand suffer because of their horrible staff. If you're there I would definitely avoid Christine, she was demeaning and didn't hold back her attitude when I asked her questions regarding certain jeans. Also, I heard an employee telling a new employee that their trainer lied to them about the "longlasting" jegging they were pitching and that it was ok to lie to the customer but didn't recommend them for her. You have to always be a little concerned when career sales managers are on their high horse. It's interesting to see other complaints about Christina here, yet they haven't demoted or fired her yet. read more

Had a lovely experience at Madewell today. The selection was great and the prices were affordable too. I was assisted by both Jessie, a most helpful salesperson and Alisa the fab manager. The store is well-organized and the staff is terrific. I purchased an adorbs pair of black skinnies today but I will return shortly, to both visit the delightful Alisa and Jessye and to do some more damage -- perhaps a cute top...or shorts or maybe one or 2 of the nice selection of sunnies.
