My husband and I decided to try "Made from Scratch Pizza" since it opened recently. When we walked in I was taken back how loud it was. I asked the hostess if it's quieter at lunch time and she said , it's probably louder. There was a DJ that was right behind us. I thought, how are we going to carry on a conversation. We sat at the bar area because a table that was available was pretty small. There were a lot of people working so the service was good. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, it wasn't the best I've had. Incredible pizzas, but irritating atmosphere, unfortunately. After 16 hours on the road, we stopped in Redlands, CA for the night. Craving pizza, we found MFS. We were instantly turned off by the extremely loud music, but figured we'd endure it because we were too tired to walk any more. I get what the place is trying to do with the decor, menu names, and live DJ, but the space is far too small and lacks the acoustics to make the music enjoyable. No one is listening to the music. No one is paying attention to the DJ. Everyone wants to either enjoy conversation with the people they are with or watch the big screen TVs behind the bar. The playful fresh flavor of the tomato swilling amongst the mozzarella but don't forget a dash of basil leaf to wake you up, all made for a delicious eating celebration. I expected to have a pepperoni with each large pizza bite having ordered double pepperoni, however I was sadly unable to. Had the Shroom-Tang Clan for the opener, then the Pretty Fly for a White Pie and Truffle Mushroom pizzas. Delicious. I enjoy my Old Fashioned so when trying it out at new spots I'm hesitant. It is pulled out of a sleeve like a vinyl record. How creative. Then upon looking around, and seeing the decor of 45s on the wall, and an LP jacket painting, we started to catch on. Made From "Scratch". The final ah-hah was when a DJ started spinning music (Scratching... get it?). Not loudly, just perfect, and we hadn't even taken a bite yet. I thought the pizza, drinks, and service were all solid. However, the main reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is the noise level. I know this might make me sound old, but the DJ had the music so loud that I honestly couldn't hear anything. When our server came by, I found myself just giving a thumbs up because I couldn't hear her even when she was standing right next to me. My girlfriend and I barely talked during dinner because we had to practically shout just to hear each other. Got mixed feelings about this review, been here 3 times now, brought friends and family here because honestly I think they got a solid shot at best pizza in Redlands. Here are the problematic issues, service staff is friendly but unreliable. Had pizzas just go missing after ordering them before. Drinks not show up for 15 min. This is a pizza spot heavily inspired by DJ culture, and created for and by music enthusiasts. There are very few restaurants in the world where you can experience regular performances from living legends of the DJ/turntablism scene. For the wings we went with dry rub and buffalo. We also got the mac n cheese balls to start. The kids loved them. Stopped by on a Sunday thinking it was going to be packed but it wasn't... maybe 4 tables being served and a few ppl at the bar. Pretty empty. Good for us we were thinking.... It was a warm day and the water that was served could have had ice in it. Anywho the waitress took our order. And we thought it was quite odd that we were waiting so long a salad when there were hardly any ppl there. So it gave me time to observe everything. Our waitress was playing with her hair the whole time, a couple times scratched her scalp then she continued playing with her hair. I told my husband this might be the last time we come. 20 min later we finally got our salad ( as I said before bomb dressing). And then 10 min later our pizza. The reason for the star is for the hair playing around food, very unsanitary. I was almost .... Very close to not coming back cuz of the hair and very slow service on a slow day. Went on a Saturday night around the holiday weekends so the place wasn't too busy. We got seated immediately and servers were very attentive and easy to get ahold of. Tried out the meatballs and wings for appetizers. The meatballs were large and tasty. We got parmesan for the wings and the sauce is good but the size and the amount of meat in the wings is what caught my attention. For pizza, we got the truffle mushroom and the baked potato which is the special. I liked the truffle mushroom but I feel like the flavors are fully there. Not enough goat cheese or truffle taste. The baked potato really surprised me! Probably my favorite thing that I had there that day. Overall a great experience and I want to try their other pizzas especially the more unique flavors. I probably will try my best to not go there in the weekend, there was live music which was unproportionally too loud for me. It was hard talking to the servers.
