Amazing diner!!! Great home made food, lots from scratch, bacon is so thick and delicious, eggs were cooked to perfection. And the fruit (if it's in season) is picked fresh! Workers are so sweet :) We loved it so much Thank you :)

The service was phenomenal... they treated us as we were regulars and provided the upmost service. My group is from California, and we don't get lil mom and pop restaurants like this, it was a pleasant surprise on how amazing the food was. The food was cooked deliciously, pancakes the size of a medium pizza. If I'm ever in the area again, we will definitely be back. Thank you

We were here to hike Letchworth and needed a proper hearty all American breakfast before starting our day. Tried one spot but they were oddly closed, another spot looked too busy and as I searched through my GPS, Maddie J's popped up so off we went and so happy we did! When you first walk into this small dining room, you only see a few tables and counter seating thus making it look like it's crazy busy but everyone who was a local there this morning directed us to go to the back and the whole other side had more tables too. We were greeted really warmly by their lovely in-house baker (kicking myself for not getting her name) and equally really taken care of by our sweet waitress too! I LOVED that almost everyone who walked in after us was greeted by their first name and asked if they wanted their usual. The menu is to the point and concise, which I really appreciate. Right now because of Covid, everything is served on paper plates with plastic utensils, but still that didn't deter from the deliciousness we were about to experience. Price to portion is perfect and when we ordered a breakfast platter to share, they split it up for both of us on separate plates without us even asking! Breakfast platter came with 3 eggs, however you like them, either 3 pancakes or french toast, home fries and choice of meat... All of it was perfectly cooked and amazing. Of course had to have both the house made corned beef hash and the canned corn beef hash, and as much as I enjoyed the house made one because it was really flavorful and not crazy salty, I'm a spam lover so canned corned beef has a special place in my heart. All of their baked goods are made in house by a really sweet woman who retired and couldn't stand to stay at home anymore and since she can only bake so much for her family, she does it here and I am grateful to have met her, have some great convo about any and all topics but most importantly getting to experience her ridiculously delicious peanut butter cookies, brownies, banana bread, and cinnamon buns! This is a must go place if you are in the area! We couldn't find any reasonably priced accommodations closer to the park so I'm glad we ended up here to experience Maddie J's!

I looked at my wife and said, "Let's do it, we'll try the fish fry!" So off we went. The special on the menu was grouper. My wife had her heart set on that. Unfortunately our very sweet waitress said (at 7:30 pm) that they were out of the grouper and breaded fish fry (my choice, lol). So our start was a little shaky! I forgot to mention that I loved the new opportunity to make a reservation (we called at 5:30 pm & got a 7:30 reservation for 4). Anyway, no worries, my wife ordered the cajun broiled fish fry & I the beer battered fish fry. Outstanding! The batter was perfect, not too much and the fish was flakey and delicious! The sides, cole slaw, mac salad and fries were excellent, not too much mayo, slaw was delicious as well. I was never much of a beer battered guy, always preferred the breaded fish--I can't wait to get the beer battered again. It was that good! My wife loved her dinner as well and so did our guests. My suggestion, maybe order a little more grouper, but honestly, I can't wait to go back and repeat exactly what I had! Great job by our waitress as well. And I believe the new owner greeted us at the door. Very friendly and kind. He had mentioned a few esthetic changes for the bar and ceiling which sound brilliant! Looking fwd to it.

We placed a reservation and were told when our table was ready. Our server Ruby was outstanding! She promptly brought more drinks, answered questions and gave us the time to decide. The breaded fish was delicious, as was the Mac salad and slaw. I chose onion straws as my third side. They were fine and would have complimented a steak nicely. My fault, they were lost under a fried fish. They had a good crowd despite the frigid conditions and the lot was well plowed. I should have gone with the mac and cheese. It looked great and everyone else liked it. Shout out to Ruby who certainly made our night. A great place for Mardi Gras reveling in a few weeks!

Both were solid choices; the gumbo had great flavor, and the po'boy really hit the spot. I got the remoulade on the side, which ended up being a great call. If I'm ever back in Buffalo, I'll definitely stop by again to try more of their menu.

I went here today with my kids and some friends and their kids (ages 6 to 8 months). It being a Sunday at 1ish, we figured we'd miss the lunch rush and be able to cruise in and out. Somewhat surprisingly, it was pretty much full (which isn't a bad thing), but we got lucky and were able to sit within about 10 minutes. The place is quite fun with walled-off bar and table areas that adjoin at the front with an open space and the small music stage. The decor was cool with rough cut wood everywhere and TVs playing the Olympics (go US curling team!). And even though it was really busy, it wasn't all that loud given the number of people. Once we got seated though is where things started going off the rails a bit. It took a little bit for our server to come see us and then even more time to take our orders. The whole time she seemed either disinterested or distracted and certainly in a rush. I also got that same kind of vibe from the other servers I saw bouncing around too. In any event, we got our orders in and then it took them quite a while to come out as well even though we didn't get anything really special - pot roast poutine and side salad for me, cheeseburger and fries for my son, pizza with black olives for my daughter, and then our friends got chicken fingers and fries and I think maybe another cheeseburger or something. All in all, I think we ended up being there around an hour and a half through no fault of our own. For a beverage, I ordered myself an espresso martini. Now, mind you when I asked for a cocktail menu, they had none. They also "only" had 3 or 4 kinds of gin, to which our server told us that's not actually what it's called the "Gin" Mill for (not sure if that was sarcasm or serious). Either way, not really what I was expecting but oh well. It is a pub after all. On the flip side of that, I saw what looked like some really excellent looking cocktails being served up at the bar. Seems like a missed opportunity to me. On the food side, my side salad was pretty basic - lettuce, green pepper, tomato, and onion. I asked for balsamic and ended up getting two ranch. Oh well, I still like ranch. The pot roast poutine was absolutely epic though. Is it trying to actively kill me? Of course it is with all that fatty meat, greasy fries, and gravy. Aren't I allowed to splurge for the sake of you readers out there though? The roast was melt in your mouth tender and some big chunks of it to boot. I brought about 3/4 home and it made excellent leftovers for dinner too! The pizza was solid with a good cheese to sauce ratio, a nice, fluffy crust, and good overall taste and texture. I got a bite of my son's (plain) cheeseburger and it was also quite good with quality-looking bun and some really nice sear marks on the burger. The fries weren't my favorite with the sort of weird crunchy texture-style that like a Burger King has, but that's really just my personal preference. At around 230 is when the band started playing, which was an older couple playing some country tunes. My kids decided to go out and dance for a couple minutes, which the musicians seemed to get a kick out of. It was tough to make out the words she was singing, but it was a fun vibe regardless and it wasn't obnoxiously loud either. All in all (and cheating looking at some of the other reviews), it seems like this place has some front-of-house issues that need addressing but their food and drink are pretty solid. Since there's not a ton of food choices in town, I'd consider going again, but with EBC and others in walking distance, I guess there's not really any compelling reason that I should when I only make it down this way a couple times a year.

Had to wait longer than normal for the hostess to seat me. It's was extremely difficult to communicate with the server due to the volume, however, I ordered the French onion soup, not bad. This establishment has the historical charm, but I could've done without all the dead Wildlife creatures hanging out all over the walls. FYI, some individuals like myself, prefer seeing them alive, especially while you're eating. But, each for their own. And I have to agree with other reviews on service being extremely slow .

We grabbed seats at the bar, which was packed (always a good sign). My friends kicked things off with specialty cocktails: a blackberry lemon drop and some kind of honey bourbon masterpiece. Apparently both were dangerously delicious, because they each ended up having three. (For the record, before anyone gets concerned, I was the responsible chauffeur and got everyone home safely.) One friend originally had her heart set on the Rachel, but they were out of turkey and her backup choice of portobello mushrooms, so she pivoted to the French onion soup instead. She was happy with her choice, although we all agreed it felt slightly offensive to be eating soup when it should've been warm enough outside to retire soup season. As for burgers: I successfully convinced my other friend to order one, because these burgers are just that good. She got the stuffed banana pepper burger, and it absolutely delivered. Honestly, if you tell me a burger is overloaded with chorizo, I'm already halfway in love with it. I decided to cross another burger off my personal bucket list and went with the goat cheese burger. As someone who strongly believes toppings should be bordering on excessive, I would've loved a little more goat cheese and pickled red onions, or maybe a slightly bigger patty to better match the bun. But did that minor critique stop me from demolishing every last bite? Not even a little. My only tiny complaint: I could've gone for a few more fries... though my stomach probably disagrees. Huge shoutout to Kelly behind the bar, who was an absolute rockstar all night. Friendly, quick, and somehow simultaneously making cocktails, margaritas, and what felt like half the drinks in the building. Overall, I was happy to treat my neighbor friends--who do so much for my kids and me--to a fun, delicious dinner.

Paula's Donuts helped heal me after surgery - seriously. But first, a few words about the best…read moredonuts in the United States. I feel confident that statement is true. These are not featherweight, boring, drive thru chain donuts that never fail to disappoint. The box says they are "made with love" and while I certainly hope the bakers and makers are not oozing affection for the creations as they do their job (because that would get weird right?), the recipes and standards of ultra high quality that this unique WNY establishment has sure shows a respect and appreciation for their customers. The dough is light and never greasy tasting. The cream fillings are also fluffy and airy and melt in your mouth. Jellies are all top notch and let me be clear, the donuts are packed full with whatever is inside. Or on top. The headlights are incredible. Peanut butter offerings (several to choose from) are stellar. I'm not sure if the chocolate icing is a ganache but it seems much more like a ganache than the lousy, dried out icing you might find at places we need not mention. Staff are always courteous, polite and fast. I think each donut is going for about $2.30 but well worth it for the size and quality. A box of 3 is heavy to hold. You get a lot of donut for your buck. I've been on a Paula's kick for a couple months, stopping in when appropriate for my donut desires but trying to be mindful of my waistline. I like to sit down and really enjoy every bite. These are not ordinary donuts, they are an experience to savor. But how do Paula's donuts help one recover from surgery? It's about what you might do with them. My friend picked me up and brought me home after the hospital and slyly produced a bag of donuts for me, which I sat down and ate the minute I walked in the door. The unexpected gesture of something I've been enjoying a lot lately certainly took my mind off any discomfort. Nice friend, right? Part of recovery is having supportive friends and family and I'm glad I've got that. And I'm glad I also got a bag of donuts to make a "rough day" a lot better. So, Paula's people - I haven't tried them all yet so I guess I'm going to have to return. (Image is different donuts from a different day.)
