The consultation was very helpful in finalizing the details and pricing, and I appreciated the discount for paying in cash. They set a clear pickup date and time, and at the final try-on I was extremely happy with the result. I would definitely recommend them for wedding dress alterations! Just be sure to allow at least two months specifically for wedding dress alterations, as noted on their website.

Maria was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. She was professional, patient, and genuinely invested in getting everything exactly right. What really stood out was her attention to detail. She communicated every step of the way, sent photos for approval before making any permanent decisions, and asked all the right questions to make sure the final result met the required standards. She clearly takes great pride in her craft. The end result was clean, precise, and exactly what I needed. I couldn't be happier with the experience. I will absolutely be coming back for any future alterations needs and would highly recommend Fancy Alterations to anyone -- military or civilian -- looking for a seamstress who truly cares about the quality of her work. 5/5 stars without hesitation!

I was able to pick up the jacket a few days later and it fit like a glove. Later I tried my luck with the repair of a damaged dress for a friend. Once again, Fanny was very professional and told me exactly what I could expect. When I returned a few days later, the dress looked as good as new. You couldn't tell it had ever been ripped! I was certain my third request to Fanny would be too much. My friend had wanted several alterations done to her mother's wedding dress. I recommended we go to Fanny to talk it through before her big day. Not only did Fanny give her some great feedback, but the end result was better than my friend or I could have ever imagined. I would definitely recommend Fanny for any of your tailoring needs.

Fanny saw me 6 or 7 times during a 3-month course before my wedding because my weight fluctuated a lot. My dress is very simple, so a little change in my body shape will show. I lost quite some weight 2 months before the wedding, gained it back, and lost it again. My dress was finalized 6 days before my wedding day and it turned out gorgeously. During this time, Fanny also did my measurements for my custom made Qipao, and gave recommendations for my then fiancé's shirt and suit choices, for free. Wedding dress alteration is not cheap but it also has close to zero tolerance for mistakes. Fanny is super professional, friendly and gives great suggestions. Bottom line: I would recommend Fanny to any of my friends for alteration needs. Thanks Fanny!!

I wanted to restore it to wear on my wedding day but it was in horrible shape. It was badly damaged and discolored due to oxidization. My mother had done nothing to preserve it. I contacted Crystal Cleaning Center on the recommendation of a place called Elegance Preserved in SF. Elegance Preserved in SF could not help me, but they said that Lynette was the person who specialized in vintage who I would want to talk to. I drove down to San Mateo with the very damaged wedding dress and Lynette provided her perspective. It could be restored through the incorporation of new fabrics and then restored. I was shocked that she did not tell me that it was impossible. She gave me a timeline for getting it cleaned, then altered, and then finished with a pressing before the wedding. She also connected me with my seamstress, Kirsten Tucker in SF, who was also masterful. Together, they worked together seamlessly to provide me with the vision that I had of restoring my mother's 1977 wedding dress. I could not have asked for anything more. It was not cheap but it was also worth every single penny. Nothing could have prepared me for how many compliments I would receive on my dress, and to have the story that it was my mother's totally made my wedding day special beyond words. Thank you Lynette and Crystal Cleaning Center.

Warning: Ignore the 5 star reviews and pay attention to the left-crying, combative, rude energy,…read moreripped off , creepy apartment reviews. I ditto their story and feel like the wedding dress I just demanded back from her unfinished needs an exorcism. Please don't let her get her negativity on you and your dress before your wedding. She will probably be nice to you after she takes deep sighs and tells you how it's your fault, you bought the wrong dress like all the brides these days, it's too heavy, it's going to break her sewing machine, she has to charge double, and a multitude of it's your fault comments. I can't believe I paid $765 (plus a hefty $125 PREPAID consult fee) to have a simple layer shortened and then be told that I have to live with the way the dress looks. I've taken it somewhere else and they happily have told me it will be beautiful when they're done. I called her later that first day and said I was feeling kind of upset , and I said I wanted to come back and revisit it - there was going to be another consult fee. Isn't that part of what we pay for when you hire an Alterations person- Their time and advice? Seems she's only nice to you after she makes you feel bad, that's the only reason I can imagine for the positive reviews. PS my dress smelled like weird perfume when I picked it up (?!) so if you have an allergy to perfume you may want to let her know that! Ick. PPS she charges tax on her Service (which I questioned) , but you're not allowed to write Alterations in the Venmo comment. Kind of suspect.

I haven't knitted in years but was recently traveling in Copenhagen with a friend and she made a point to visit so many yarn stores, I think it rubbed off on me. Anyways, no one greeted us. There were a few customers in the store while some women were crocheting or knitting at a table in the back. We walked by them (I even scooted a chair in) to look at yarns and they didn't stand up or say anything. Finally, dad and his daughter walked over saying they wanted to buy something so I went over to get in line behind them with some yarns. Bad service, nice selection of yarn as well as books and patterns and accessories. Not cheap but organized nicely and easy-to-find items (which is important when there's no one there to help you.)

The two women who were working were very nice and provided me with a lot of feedback (when asked) on yarns for various projects. I loved their cute Pride display and left with some beautiful Juniper Moon Cumulus yarn. If they'd had more in the colorway I'd chosen, I would have bought more. I don't visit Half Moon Bay frequently, but if I find myself in the area again, I will definitely stop by.
