The drop off process went smoothly and I was told that the dress won't be ready for pick up until May so I kind of just forgot about it. Of course there were still some worries especially since this is such a sentimental piece of garment that I'm having cleaned & preserved. I received a notification this week that my dress was ready for pick up so was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they finished. For a flat rate of $500 for cleaning & preservation, I thought it was a pretty good deal. My dress was beautifully packaged & the garment bag I dropped it off in was also returned back to me. I wore it with black pants that "crocked"--that is, they contained excess fabric dye that transferred to the inside lower part of the jacket. It looked awful (I threw the pants away) and I was fearful that the staining was permanent. After all, it's fabric dye, not just a food stain. I took my jacket to Crystal Cleaning and found myself talking to the owner. She understood the problem and also understood my fear of over-pressing or otherwise having the jacket damaged by improper handling. She said they do not ship out but do all their cleaning themselves on premises. That is highly unusual! It took a couple of weeks but they managed to get out 90%+ of the black fabric dye and did not overpress or in any way damage my garment. This was better than I expected and I was so relieved. The jacket still looks fresh. I should mention that I patronized this business specifically because some professional dressmakers recommended it to me. It's now my preferred dry cleaner, well worth a trip up from Sunnyvale on a Saturday.
