This review is going to be short: It truly was one of the worst Korean fried chicken my wife and I have ever had in our lives. I'm Korean and am familiar with many Korean fried chicken restaurants in LA and now in Dallas (I need to update my reviews), but seriously, it was so bad that we even debated taking the half we didn't eat to our home. In fact, we were sh#t talking the poor left over chicken as it sat in the floor of our passenger seat area. We ordered the soy garlic and the parmesan chicken. The parmesan (the lighter one) tasted sour. Yes, sour. WTH. Oh the moo (white radish's broth was so watered down. It's supposed to have a more sweeter than vinegary taste to it, but it was so weak it tasted more like water than anything else. The truffle fries though were really good though. 3.5 stars would be a more accurate rating based on my experience, but I am giving it 3 stars because there are a few things that they could do better. Pros: 1) The food is very tasty. My husband said the spicy chicken sandwich was exactly what he was hoping for. The sweet potato fries were delicious. The avocado salad was very fresh. The complimentary popcorn was very good too! Be careful not to fill up on it! 2) Drink selection is great! Plenty of beers to choose from, and their "Mad" beers were great! Lots of cocktails to choose from as well! Cons: 1) The ambiance does not go with the food. The restaurant reused a lot of the same decor form the previous tenants, and it feels like a Texas steakhouse...not a "spicy," fun place. 2) The service could have been better. The workers were adequate, but they almost seemed like they were on auto-pilot and not especially friendly...maybe from being in the dark, wooden interior all day? 3) The food (while delicious) is overpriced. My husband's sandwich and fries weren't too bad at $14. However, an order of sweet potato fries was $9, and the avocado salad was $12. We've dined in before and it Hasn't been this bad until we did pickup recently. When we got home, the Wing Combo was barely covered and lightly seasoned with sauce on only half Of the wing each. They ran out of Drumsticks. The Spicy Soy Garlic Chicken was not spicy. The Kim chi fries tasted gritty/floury with barely any kimchi or spicy sauce. Before I go into details of my positive experience, let me offer tips for the business to truly wrap up five stars (weren't worth the loss of a star, but would make the experience the BEST). Suggestions: - wet naps, at least 1 per person, since the wings (and most finger-foods served) are wet/sticky. This would reduce traffic to the bathroom just to wash hands after the meal, and was my only true complaint. - history/story on the menu! When I asked why the "soup" option on the back of the menu was $30, our server Lauren explained it's based on a wartime meal and serves 4! That fully explains why it's $30, and hearing about its origin made me bookmark this place to bring back some family to try it out! Prerequisites: know what kimchi is, and be open to giving it a shot if you've never had it. It compliments dishes very well, and fits the theme of this place nicely. Our experience: Kimchi fries (spicy mayo makes this wet, can use fork to eat), delicious, large portion serves two hungry people, or would stave the appetite of 4 who've other things coming. The fact that the fries are so crispy while covered with wet ingredients boggles my mind and makes this fry-"meh" girl a fry LOVER. I will come here for the fries if they're always like this! Fried dumplings (need wet naps, hard to use fork only... would need knives if depending on utensils to eat). The spicy ones have a little heat to them! Both have great flavor. I suggest the combo to even it all out. Wings (definitely need wet naps), half and half and combo wings/drumsticks. Good flavor (soy ginger, spicy soy ginger). We preferred the spicy soy ginger on these. Drinks: I'd venture water is a good thing to have on hand (I dropped water onto a napkin and made my own wetnap) at least to cleanse the palate. Alcohol: Plum Collins was sweet, light, delicate, okay - not sure if it's worth $10. Beer: the Mango Cart pairs SO well with this food, if you're into that! I'm not much of a spicy person (at all), so the plain wings were great for me. Soup was ok, but I won't get it again for $10. I didn't get pics of everything- but 2adults 2 teens, did have leftovers...but not of the chicken!! It was super tasty! My wife and I had a lunch date at this location in southern part of Flower Mound. Wood barn feel with suspended rail road ties on the ceiling. Has a full bar area to the right of the entrance. Quick specifics: Korean influenced place that appears to pride itself on the Korean style chicken wings. There is also selection of Korean dishes. Price is probably a a little higher than average. Lunch special costs $14 and comes with six chicken wings, fries, and a soft drink. It was an ample amount of food and my wife and I could have split the fries for sure they were so plentiful. Love that Korean style fried chicken...pretty good. You can upgrade the fries to Kim-Chee flavoring but that was an extra $3 and my wife and I didn't think it's worth the extra cost. We ordered the spicy garlic soy flavor and hit the spot on flavor. We also ordered the bulgogi bowl. Comes in that really awesome hot stone bowl that seems to keep everything hot forever and fries rice at the bottom of the bowl by the time you get to it. We got a a fried egg added on for $1. The bowl was ok, and by that I mean the bulgogi was more sugar flavored than I prefer. Others for sure might like it but I thought it a bit strong. I would have thought my wife would like it more as she really has a sweet tooth but she said it's just ok as well. Staff super nice and good about explaining things. Asked for a recommendation and was told the lunch special. It came through and again it's good, I just don't know that I'd drive south 15 mins to get there again. But if already in the area I might stop by. Each night it looks like they have a special going on as it flashed on the tv as we were waiting for our food. On that note, the wait was pretty long compared to what we thought....so much so that the server apologized and said the kitchen was running behind. Appreciate honesty. It didn't ruin our date as we got to scroll through and plan our next vacation while waiting. They do offer 5% discount if you pay in cash, which we did and they honored it when they brought back the change. For both those meals table came to $31....after the 5% discount was just under $30. A wonderful rustic/urban style place to sit down and eat! NOTE: the vibe and foods weren't really Korean-style in my opinion, but rather a more hipster version? My friend and I were seated right away when walked in; Crystal was our server. Loved the complementary popcorn because I was starving when I came. It's like kettle with some other seasoning I couldn't tell but it was amazing (maybe paprika?? Idk) Free refills! The popcorn was an awesome touch to our stay. The burger was great, but our chicken in the burger was very unseasoned. Like they just slapped breading and put it in the oven or however they cooked it. The sauce and cheese inside the burger tried to make the chicken taste more appetizing but it didn't really work because I could still taste the blandness after a few more bites. Fries were amazing! They were super hot, crispy, and seasoned well. I could eat them with or without the ketchup and it would still taste yummy. Soy garlic wings were crispy (like ASMR crispy) and well seasoned, but the meat inside wasn't. Basically, all the flavor and taste is outside, which isn't really Korean style. Crystal was up on her game with refilling our waters, but towards the end she went somewhere so we couldn't ask her what we needed (more popcorn, the check, picking up the check). It's quite hard to wave servers down because it's dark in the place and because the servers were one step below us. For reference, we sat in the booths, which was up on one stair step for some reason (odd interior choice). It was a pretty slow Saturday, and some servers were just standing near the kitchen so I don't know why it was hard for us to ask for what we needed. Overall, it was a good experience, but could've been better! Went there on Saturday. The concept is nice, restaurant is clean, but almost empty at midday. I believe this partly related to the "dead beat staff." I don't mean to sound mean (lol) but I'm being honest. In my third photo you can see an example of staff congregating where the food pick up area was. We were there for an hour and half and our water was never replenished...and empty when we left. Our server was nice but she and others seemed clueless. Maybe this is their first time...? But still, it's so awkward when 90% of the staff look like high schoolers grouped in one spot with their phones and mouths running. Anytime something was handed aside from the fries, it was awkward lol. They just kept putting it at the opposite end of our booth table and immediately walked away. Also no silverware when we sat down, had to wait for that. The odd popcorn starter on the house provided comes from this big plastic bin. It's not fresh and simply tastes tasteless. I received my meal 20 minutes after my boyfriend got his and he didn't eat until I was able to. I kept eye on the time and not once did we get checked on or mentioning of inconvenience until my food was actually served. /: Food Comments: (1) The toppoki was so oddly sweet. I've had this before at other restaurants and it was nothing like that. But if that's your choice go for it. Also there was no fish taste to the fish cakes. (2) Bulgogi was not good. It tasted like teriyaki beef jerky (that's not dehydrated ofc). It was so sauced and sweet, and the way it was cut?? Never had that before either and I didn't touch it. Texturally and flavor wise unappealing. (3) the Just Fries, were the only great thing we ate there. Portion size is not an issue here. The fries were large and hot. *edit* (4) chicken combo: they were supposed to be a crispy chicken combo but his were soft/sauced? Chili's has crunchier chicken that are sauced. Last side note: one kid had black converse as his shoes - which is fine, but they were *so* unhinged and dirty. The white part to the converse were so blacked and scruffed I was baffled that it was worn at a place of work. This restaurant's concept has potential but the staff is weak. Their bar is made nicely but nobody used it while we were there. We both wished there was more integration between cultures within the menu. Also their menu online is not updated to what was offered in person. Lastly, their actual menu appearance is confusing. Example, you don't know when the appetizers become not appetizers lol. This is a chicken wing treat! I love the super crispy, flavor Korean style chicken and this neighborhood spot fits the bill for me.

I was craving chicken wings for dinner and discovered this place opened right down the street from us. Little did we know we would be here for 4 hours playing games, watching sports, and socializing with the most amazing bartender Hayden. Hayden was a breath of fresh air and one of the most incredible bartenders I have ever had. He introduced us to a delicious Korean liquor. It was so great we ended up taking home a bottle to go. Mad for Chicken has great drink deals. While we were there we had the smoking beer tower. It was a show! Wednesday Thursday you can purchase half price Korean liquor and during happy hour Monday-Friday you get 2 drafts beers on the house with the purchase of a beer tower. We ordered the signature wings with spicy soy sauce. The wings are double fried, they basically melt off the bone and have a delicious crunchy outside. Honestly the best wings I have ever had. The Parmesan fries were a highlight of our trip. Served with a spicy Mayo and the restaurants ketchup. I especially enjoyed the spicy mayonnaise, it was like nothing I have ever had before. Can't forget the amazing house made ranch served with the wings and fries. Hayden and the owner Edward made us feel at home from the start. I have never been to a restaurant that is so welcoming and friendly. Both Edward and Hayden explained the Korean history behind the food items and drinks served at this restaurant. Not only does this place have delicious food, they also have fun games. I came for dinner and ended up staying for hours playing games. Behind the bar they have multiple games to dive into while you enjoy food or cocktails. Hayden even played the first round of the dice game with us, helping us get the hang of it. So helpful and sweet! This place is innovative, scrumptious, and a perfect place for a date night. I can't commend this place enough for the wonderful night they provided us at Mad for Chicken. We were lucky enough to try this place because we have a couple of very good friends in Flower Mound who decided to order takeout from here one afternoon my husband and I went to visit. I won't expound on it too much, but suffice to say, I am not the biggest fan of chicken on the bone, particularly wings, particularly messy wings. But OMG. I could NOT STOP EATING THIS CHICKEN. I kept grabbing piece after piece. They ordered a mix of drumsticks and wings, original and spicy, and I seriously could have demolished the box myself. Wow. And the bulgogi mac and cheese and avocado salad on the side were just icing on the proverbial cake. Both delicious. Pricing seems high at first glance, but when you consider how many servings we ended up with (4 lunches + 2 leftover portions) for a large combo box and two sides, it's pretty darn reasonable. The only reason for 4 is because it's pricy for fried chicken BUT this is Flower Mound anyone living here should expect that it won't be fast food priced chicken. We came in during the soft opening and now that the menu is expanded. Chicken is great. Very crispy outside and juicy inside. We only ordered the spicy soy for both the boneless and combo order. The boneless were not as spicy as the combo but still spicy enough. We were expecting the boneless pieces to be smaller so were pleasantly surprised that the size of the boneless chicken were a good size. The drums on the combo were also very large. We also ordered dumplings to go. These were great! During the soft opening we also ordered the Parmesan fries. The fries were very crispy but in my onion $12 is a bit much for the size of the order. My GF and I came by Friday night for the soft opening and we were delighted to see a new Korean Fried Chicken place pop up in Flower Mound. We were greeted by the hostess and directed to the bar for placing to-go orders. There was a limited selection menu due to it being the soft opening, and the boneless breasts that were shown on the menu photos were sold out. We ultimately ended up going with the 20 piece mixed wing combo of half soy garlic and half spicy soy garlic. The bartender who took our order mentioned that it would be a 30-minute wait. I was a bit shocked at the long wait time, but since it was a soft opening, it was understandable. We walked outside the plaza and came back to Mad for Chicken bar area 40 minutes later. We asked for our order and the bartender went to check on it. He came back and replied that the kitchen staff was "working on it." In my opinion, this was poor customer service because we were given no additional time frame regarding when our wing combo order would have been ready. We waited an additional 20 minutes and finally received our order. The key reason why I didn't rate this place higher was that the bartender didn't even apologize for our wait. I didn't mind the wait, but having no apology from the staff exemplifies poor customer service. In regards to the Korean Fried Chicken wings, they were a decent size, and crispy. The chicken was not too saucy and the spicy soy garlic provided a nice kick of flavor. I noticed that several other reviews mentioned that the wings were juicy, but our chicken wings didn't taste juicy and the meat was on the drier side. Honestly, I'm glad that there's a new Korean Fried Chicken place in Flower Mound, but there are much better bang-for-your-buck options in Lewisville and Carrollton to try out if you're craving Korean Fried Chicken. We used to come to this location for trivia back when it was the previous business and although the vibe was great, the implementation wasn't. Based on our first visit to Mad for Chicken I think it will be much more successful. Food and service were both great, we dined out on the patio and servers were very attentive. Hubby got the spicy soy garlic boneless (10 pc) and I ordered the bulgogi kimchi quesadilla. The chicken was a surprisingly large portion. Hubby ate less than half in one sitting, each "wing" was more like a tender or patty so 10 is a lot. The breading was light and crisp, with great quality tender chicken breast. Very high meat to bread ratio. I could taste spice in the breading but the soy and garlic flavors weren't strong at all. I really want to try the sweet and spicy as that is my typical favorite Korean fried chicken flavor. My quesadilla was also very good. Much more meat than cheese actually. The surprise win from this dish was the delightful kimchi/corn relish it came with. The bulgogi was a tad dry but quite flavorful. Overall I would probably choose chicken over quesadilla but that relish was great. They have an extensive selection of booze; especially soju and soju cocktails and beer. Hubby had a blonde but I wasn't drinking at noon. Definitely want to comeback for booze-on-a-patio some night and try the other chicken and some of the other delightful sounding fusion dishes on the menu. I am intrigued by bulgogi Mac and cheese... Updated to add... Went back a few days later and had the small traditional sweet and spicy boneless, they were deeeelicious. I will probably order them every visit. I live in the neighborhood and have been very curious and ready to try this place. I'll start out with the negative. I don't know how Korean wings are supposed to be so my opinion isn't the strongest but I was personally not a fan of how fried they were. Great flavor but this was just fried crispy chicken to me. Felt so full and gross after eating 5. Also charged 1.50$ for ranch which I think is tacky- wings are meant to be served with dipping sauce. On the other hand the kimchi fries were great! Definitely recommend getting one of the fries. Even though they could've added a lot more sauce and toppings. Location: Flower Mound. Parking: Ample Probably one of the best, If not THE best fries (Truffle oil, Parmesan cheese or Sweet fries) - A Great Starter ! The wings are exceptionally crispy on outside and tender on inside - can't help but to eat one after the other. ONLY preference is for the various sauces to be set as a side so as not to drench the wings in over-powering sauces. The key is just to have enough of sauce, but not too much to trump the crispy wings itself. The favorite is definitely the chicken tenders with scallions. Food is really good. Service is the worst I've ever experienced and I'm not surprised this place is closing down. Placed a to go order at 6pm that said it would be ready at 6:35pm. I have now been sitting at the bar for 30 minutes without my food and the bartender won't even look at me. Absolutely ridiculous. OMGOODNESS! would someone PLLLEEEAAASSSEEE open one of these in san antonio? we were headed outta dallas on a sunday evening and were looking for a place to stop for dinner. mad for chicken popped up on yelp and boy am i glad it did! we felt welcomed and like "regulars" from the moment we walked in. a korean take on chicken - YUM! a bowl of sweet & spicy popcorn was set before us and that stuff is ADDICTIVE! seriously delicious! we ordered some dumplings as a starter. we got half spicy & half regular. their signature sauce is soy garlic and it comes spicy or regular. i ordered boneless chicken half & half & hubbie ordered bone in spicy. the dumplings were great, but i quickly realized the spicy sauce was a touch too hot for me. i signaled the waiter - who was incredibly friendly & personable - and asked if it was too late to change my order to all regular. was told it was not a problem, and it wasnt. the chicken - both versions - was delicious and came with pickled radish that did cool down the heat. did i mention they had the games on? nfl red zone! ALL the games were on! i was in heaven! popcorn is my fave football snack. i could have happily stayed and munched for hours! there is also a bar - so staying IS an option! we asked if we could get a bit of popcorn to go and our server was kind enough to bring us a bag. cant wait to get back to dallas to eat here again! read more
