The best thing I can say about this place is that you can order something from Macy's online and pick it up at the store, or return something here if you don't want to send it back to Macy's by mail. That said, last time I returned something, I got this seemingly cock-and-bull story about how they could only credit it back on a Macy's gift card despite me having the receipt. On the way out, I got accosted by a perfume saleswoman who kept pushing some Hugo Boss scent on me no matter how many times I said i wasn't interested. Just finished shopping at Macy's in Bethesda democracy Boulevard. My check out Assistant was Nesrem. She was very professional and personable. I did not have my Macys card with me and she helped me through the process, and informed me of the different sales going on, and which one of my coupons would be more beneficial to use. Convenient location for Metro riders. Attempting to drive here is a mistake unless you choose super offbeat hours. This location is usually stocked well and neat, but lines can be an issue when wanting to pop in and buy. Don't expect much from sales associates esp. in women's clothes and purse departments; home wares and lingerie departments are a bit better. Ladies, in the women's shoe department the service is hit or miss. There are days when you get you will get great customer service like I did on my last visit with Quentin (Quincy?) or you will find no one or at least 2-3 employees whizzing by you without a look in your direction or a hello. Sales are plentiful! One day super blockbuster sales every day (exaggeration, but almost true.) I bumped this review up to a 3.5 because they have pretty cool retail events here. I am usually a fan of Macy's and find pretty good deals there. Unfortunately, this is the case at other locations or online -- not at this location. I only come to the downtown location if absolutely necessary or if I'm in the area and again, if it is absolutely necessary. The departments are messy, and it's hard to find anything. The "last chance" sections at the back of the store floors are a disaster and make you want to avoid the whole area. When you ask anyone for help, they either A) have attitude/don't care about helping or B) give you attention but don't know the answer to simple questions in their own store ('i.e. where is the pajama section?'). This is horrible experience. I bought online two feather comforters for $127.89 during the Thanksgiving time. But I found that the exact same product only costs $39.99 per comforter in kohls. So I returned Macys comforters without opening the package in a couple of days after I received them. I also got acknowledgment from Macys for receiving the returned package. I was supposed to get refund in a few days. However, I still have not got refund yet. Today I found that there is a package at my door from Mac'y's, in which are two comforters. I was shocked. I immediately called Macy's and asked the refund status and why I got the new package. I was told by a rep that the comforters I returned were heavily used and dirty. I couldn't believe my ear and I was shocked. How could they tell such a lie to a customer unless they sold me used ones. I am angry for that. read more

I purchaed something on used code Cyber on the website. I went to pay by paypal and it took off the promo code. I called and after an hour on the phone, I was told they could not refund me for the promo code for 5 days after item has shipped. I requested an email to that effect and was told they cannot do that. They checked the order on the web and see I used promo code cyber and that the promo discount was removed once order was placed. This is just the worst company ever by not updating the amount to be charged. I am suppose to get a call back on 12/1, but I do not beleive that will happen. I will have to take time out of my day and go to the store and fight this on 12/2. This is not how Macys should treat their customers. This place consistently lets me down. In my zealousness to place my pick-up order I picked this store because it's walking distance from work. I will have to forgo that in the future. The line was ridiculously long and moved incredibly slow, like the woman behind the counter. When I got to the counter, I was determined to be pleasant because anyone can have a bad day. That woman had THE WORST attitude. She was just unpleasant. Hi said hello and how are you today, you know, like I was waiting on her. No smile, no response. So I repeated myself and she murmured fine. I held out my barcode and she scanned it and asked for ID. Not everyone works well with people and Melody does not work well with people. Lol she put this huge box on the table. I asked, May I have a bag. We don't have bags that big but if you take it out that box I have something. Fine melody. May I have a receipt. I came into Macy's to purchase a few Christmas gifts. First off, it was hard finding a Sales Associate to assist me with men's cologne. So I walked around and met Brenda. I asked her if she could assist me. Her demeanor was cold and as if, I was burdening her. Whenever I've purchased items in any store, I've always encountered Sales Associates, who were warm while assisting me. She showed me a few colognes, barely telling me the names of the scents I was smelling. The only time she engaged with me was asking the male's age. Her focus was on two other women. I don't know if she felt, I had no interest in making a purchase or what, but I politely asked her if she plans on truly assisting me or not. She tells me she was helping someone else and chose to help me which explains her interest in the two women behind me with another associate. She could've said in the beginning she was assisting them and she would be with her afterwards or would get someone to assist me. Easily the worst Macy's I've ever had the displeasure of visiting (and unfortunately, this is my closest location, so I've been here several times), and who hasn't been to a bunch of different Macy's? Save yourself the trouble and just go to the Macy's at the Pentagon City Fashion Center and you'll be much happier. The problems here are myriad but chief among them is poor customer service. There are a few folks who seem helpful but there's a general sense of angst among employees. Couple this with employees who genuinely seem lost and/or confused, and you get the the sense that they're not getting the training and support they need. The bottom floor is a mess in terms of organization and the men's section isn't very navigable, either. And I've found that they rarely stock things in my size (a very common size!) so I usually end up ordering online or visiting the aforementioned Fashion Center location. Basically, this is only convenient because of proximity to Metro, so it's a decent spot to use the bathroom if needed. read more

After lunch at Oya yesterday I spotted this Macy's. Truth be known I went in mostly wanting a little air conditioning. Then I remembered the American Express gift card I had leftover from my birthday and my mind wandered to lipstick. However, when I caught a glimpse of my beet-red-from-the-heat face in the mirror I decided to peruse the menswear first. After making a couple of purchases for my favorite Washingtonian I went to the MAC counter. A lovely gal named Latoya helped me choose a couple of lipsticks and a gloss. They have some nicer brands but the store is a bit packed/cluttered so you have to really dig to find the higher quality items. Two and a half stars. Overpriced shoes with only 2-3 cute styles, and a lot of fashion items function less valued than aesthetic. I don't know, maybe I'm in the minority in finding an excess of exposed zipper rosettes to be gauche. They didn't have the wristlets we were looking for (I was looking to see how far I could downsize on a night out), but managed to find a studded ruffle clutch that was suitable for going out. I need to stop buying things in charcoal grey, but today is not that day. Floor staff was on the aloof side. Shopping at this store is a lot like visiting your somewhat troublesome in-laws - it's an obligation you must attend to strictly out of necessity, but with enough effort, you can hope to get something positive out of the experience. (Mind you, you may not always get exactly what you wanted, but if you try hard enough, this Macy's can offer at least SOME positive take away.) Even during the best of times though, this little "family" isn't pulled together. The store's stock is variable, the staffing numbers are well-below what you've come to expect of Macy's, and the general disorganization can be overwhelming at times. Worst of all, bathrooms are few and far between and then old and gross when you are lucky enough to find one. The good news? At least this store is available in a convenient location that would otherwise be void of general department stores. Sadly, I guess I'm still glad to at least have a Macy's around to visit. At any given time, the escalators will be out. There are 4 floors plus the the basement, so it is an inconvenience if their main goal is to get us to spend money. And the elevators are super slow. Management also seems to like to try new things all the time because there's constant 'construction' going on. At the risk of enraging some previous reviewers who apparently hate this place, I have to say I don't even usually review stores (am more of a food gal)...but I have to say that we spent some time here this December, and it was a positive experience for several reasons: 1) Helpful and friendly employees! especially on the street level. Went through the check-out twice, as I went from deciding to buy a hat, to buying matching gloves as well. With helpful discounts, they were at a ho ho holiday savings that made me quite happy and feeling toasty warm. Especially loved that they were able to cut off the tags from my purchases so I could wear them. That being said, we skipped upstairs to try and make Husband as happy with a new hat, and well, that wasn't as easy. Warm hats without logos weren't as prevalent, and after convincing him to get one anyway, the otherwise friendly gal at checkout didn't have scissors to cut away his tag, as they had downstairs. Overall, this store was full of holiday charm, excellent savings, and helpful employees. Enough so that I have now written a review that is not for food! read more

i ordered a pair of white Ultraboost with black soles in size 13 .. They were on sale for 105 dollar. After four days had past and I had not received my shoes I called customer service. The customer service rep said the size I ordered wasn't in stock in any location but they are trying to find it. I asked why then was it listed as available online. I went in to check the price of a soft-handled can openier. There are at least 2 brands, OXO and another one. NONE of the OXO items had prices on the package or on shelf signs, so you have to scan EVERYTHING. There is an entire wall of OXO products. This is frustrating, I don't know if it is the case at every Macy's, I don't usually buy housewares at Macys. But it was annoying because the price scanner is in a different section of housewares so it is inconvenient to scan everything. The cashier confirmed this was the case, either she could scan the price for me or I would have to walk over to the scanner and do it myself. Even things that are clearance aren't consistently marked down on the package. The price will scan correctly but you won't know the true price until you scan it. Inconvenient. On the lower level above the escalator to the subway the ceilings are falling apart and have large holes in them. It looks dangerous. Hopefully they are doing repairs, but they weren't at the time. There is an elevator near the hr/escalator to subway, but hard to find if you aren't going to the subway. It is in the backstage section. read more

I have to say this isn't my all time favorite Macys. The stock is often mixed, sometimes you find decent things on sale, but there's also a lot of crap. I think the buyers need to up their game and also remerchandize. Customer service is hit or miss. Once I had a coupon for a free sample perfume and the lady looked at me like I was crazy because despite the fact that it was a Macys coupon, they never get samples (or so she said). I had a successful shoe purchase once with the help of a nice young man. He used my Macys money for a smooth transaction. Another time I returned a few dresses and the lady had no idea how to do multiple returns in one transaction. She even rang up one as a sale and only after five tries realized what she had done. I did have a positive wedding registry experience. The young lady who helped us was kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. The home and housewares stock may need some upgrades but overall I enjoyed the experience and would return for registry tips and assistance. read more

Macy's as a department store is just OK, and this one is like most Macy's. The convenient location is perfect for those of us who depend on public transportation, and I love the access point from Metro Center! It was 50% off, and there was an additional 20% off coupon that week. Perfect! A $90 purse for $35 is always good. When I found the purse, I couldn't find a cashier. Ugh! I only go to this Macy's because it is close to my place of employment. It's always crowded as it is in downtown dc. This might just be the only Macy's in the entire District. So I use this Macy's to process my online returns. Like I truly don't care for this Macy's...however, when combined with Macy's online I buy a lot of stuff prior then I simply pick it up in store. Customer service here is seriously lacking. I only received optimal customer service in the Men's department and in the Dress section. I've come into contact with younger employees who just didn't care...combative stating that they wouldn't process a return with tags attached and receipt. I then proceeded to walk away. Found a older female on the same floor who was willing to process the return and she wasn't a manager. I know this because I felt like the young empolyee was being difficult and she just didn't like her job and I asked the older female for an manager... So overall, it's some good and some bad apples.
