I usually have a good experience here but this time I could sense that no one wanted to help me because I'm Black. I walked by all the employees here, while looking at the cologne selection and I wasn't greeted by anyone. One female employee was busy in the men's Valentino section and making a sale. The guy, in the Paco Rabanne section completely ignored me as if I didn't walk right by him. He just acted like he was security. Then when he saw that I was taking his picture, he decided to ask me if I needed help. But he only asked because he knew I was about to complain about their customer service. Macy's has 'fantasy' prices on their merchandise, when they eventually mark it down 70 percent then that is the 'regular' price at other branded stores. Example: they sell this 'Mr. Christmas Ladder' with santa moving up and down a ladder, it sells for $75 retail over at lowes and home depot. Over at Macy's where they have their 75 percent off 'sale' when you scan it is says retails for ...$300 (!) and now at 75 off it's $75. Absolutely ridiculous. I suspect ZERO ever sold at $300 or $200 or even $100 over at Macy's...they might get someone to pay $75 but by now at half of and better at lowes and HD you can get it for under 40 bucks. read more

I get there..walked in and OMG!!! :D The line for Customer Service is looooonng! Probably about 15 people in waiting! Ughhh! I wanted to turn around and just do it another day but I said to myself if I don't do it now..I'll forget about it later and it will be too late!! :(( Mind you this line is not for only online merchandise pick ups but it's also for returns!! As I look @ the cashiers..there were only 2 people working! But 10min. in I did see 2 more employees help out! Thank God!! So this young guy goes around the line to check for online purchases only! He had a scanner on hand! That's great for me coz I was the 5th person to be helped! As he got to me...he asked my photo ID and scan my email bar code for my boots purchase..he scans it.. then I noticed that one of the boots were cancelled?!? Idk why?!? :(( I asked him but he had no answer! What the heck?!?! He says to me.. I can call my Floor Manager to help you while he looks for my order @ the back! He comes out with this messed up..damaged old looking box..again my fear came true!! :{{ As he opens the damaged box which by the way looked tampered and it seemed "someone had already opened the box" looked inside and only one box of boots were inside!!! I asked him that there should be 2 boxes of boots in this box and as if someone has already took one out of it! Plus..I had said to the young guy..it's unacceptable that I needed to speak to a higher manager! But the Customer Service manager was busy with the customers with returns! At this point..I was very very upset not to mention waiting in line was frustrating enough!! He calls Wesley..the Floor Manager on duty! I explain to him about the box situation and how the box boots are torn and damaged coz these are gifts to my family members (Sisters and Mother in law!) He was very calm about it and said he doesn't know why this box looked like that coz apparently they have no control how they get the shipments in?!?! What??? How can an Macy's employee not have control of a Customer's package come in without any inspection of any kind?!! I felt that it's the responsibility of a Macy's employee to ensure that a Macy's customer's package that's PAID for is handled with respect!! That's if they care enough but knowing things happen and it's a disgrace that Macy's used to be great 20 years ago! They should care!! But I can say that Wesley made my evening! He CARED ENOUGH to make sure that he takes care of me and he sure did! :)) He took the time to ring me up for another 2 boots at the sale price and he even changed the box of the one boots coz it was damaged badly! He DID that for me! At a time when retail is having a difficult time, the sales staff were so personable, friendly, and helped me find the items I was looking for. Me mum has been bugging me about a new perfume she wanted. Since I'm the only one in the fam with a Macy's card we came here early August to get her perfume. Long story short I upgraded my regular Macy's card to the Macy's/Amex CC. I knew I would get approved because of my 800+ credit. Good discount in the CC I ended up getting the Dior Sauvage Elixir. Serena works in the beauty department and is incredible. I was looking for body makeup and she not only recommended the right product, she left her station to help me select the right shade, had me try a few, gave her expert (and honest) opinion and even mixed a sample for me to see what an in-between shade would be like to cover the veins on my legs. Lauren, works in the women's shoe department, was amazing. She was extremely nice and patient with my mom and I. It was my mom's first time buying shoe's in over 20 years so she wasn't sure what size shoe to wear. I went up to Lauren and asked multiple times for sizes and she assisted me with a beautiful smile. My mom was in-between sizes so Lauren helped us order a pair of shoes online and had it shipped to our house. I didn't see any other employees working on the sales floor or else I would've asked them to help instead of bothering Lauren because she was the only person assisting customers and ringing up and was also super busy with markdowns and whatnot. I usually like Macys but man, have they gotten lazy. For instance, items in small appliances have signs that say 20% off original price or some other discount percentage, BUT what's the original price? Not on the item. Not on a sign. I like this MACY'S a lot. The jewelry department is excellent. I buy jewelry here almost exclusively. They have pay-over-time with a MACY'S card and Jewelry Repair ‍ Plans, which I highly recommend. If you gain and lose weight a lot, the jewelry repair plan allows you to get your rings sized for free. Most of the staff there in jewelry are really nice and helpful, but it is sometimes understaffed and you might have to wait a little to get assistance with your purchases. But when the associates are helping you, they focus on you, not on trying to do a bunch of things at once, or helping a bunch of people at once, which is refreshing. Whenever I've had a return or an exchange or need my jewelry serviced, they are always helpful, including the department manager, he's a good guy. The candy section is undersized and could use some improvement, especially their nearly non-existent Godiva section. If you want a Godiva selection, hit the MACY'S in San Mateo, they have a lot of good selections over there. The makeup departments there are great, I got one of them to do my wedding makeup . This was a few years' back, but if you buy some makeup, it's free. My only other grouse is that sometimes later in the evening, before closing, there is not enough staff to go around, really. Everyone seems to be always mad, and the cashiers are very rude pacifically down stairs in the men's department they don't seem to have interest in helping and there always on there phone texting which is very rude in my opinion they really need to clean up the mens areas every time i go there , there's clothes everywhere on the ground. In May, right before m, I found a department called Back Stage and quickly bought a gift for a baby who turned one year old this week. As soon I came back, I heard that one year and three years Siblings have Covid. Of course, I am sad, and the reason I am telling you that how badly communication was done at the check out the place. All I asked her was I didn't need the money back, give me either a gift card or let me change the size of the clothes. Two ladies responded loudly, the baby had a Covid, and you bought it at the end of May??? Their response was thunderous and disappointed me; I was like, who are you, ladies, thank you for not responding as a human. I said I needed to see someone who could understand how Macy's employees treated me. Thank God Ingrid came and listened to the details with patience, and she is sorry that the baby is sick and hoping for her excellent recovery. Credit department gave us credit and refused to let us use it because we planned to use almost all of it for a new couch. We had to go to the store twice to make this transaction happen and even then they almost told us to return on Tuesday after the Memorial Day holiday. The salesman was on the Macys phone with his credit dept and I called from my cell, got a different agent and they let the transaction go through. News flash: people take credit out to make large item purchases. If it was fraudulent, I wouldn't return the next day to get caught! Very disappointing and wasted 3 to 4 hours of my time. When we approached them to bring us the shoes of the right size, one of them said that his shift ended in 10 minutes and that he could not serve us. Came in looking for a specific wine-colored buffalo plaid suit. Online - they only have the vest in said suit in XXL, so I had hoped possibly of snagging it at the brick-and-mortar. As my friend put it: this store looks like it hasn't cleaned up since Black Friday. Clothes are haphazardly thrown everywhere, which honestly speaks as much to me about the clientele as it does the management here. I typically don't shop at Macy's anymore, but I walk through it all the time to get to the mall. On this day I walked through and saw a rather interesting shirt that I just had to have. I was looking around for more, but came to the realization that the last one was on the mannequin and just so happen to be my size. I patiently waited in line and after 15 minutes of waiting for my queue in the line I asked the salesperson that the shirt on the mannequin is the last and is my size which I would definitely like to buy. The lady told be she could not sell it to me because the people who were specialized to take it off the mannequin were not in. I asked if I could take it off myself and she said "no" Ok fair enough. I walked to another counter and asked another salesperson if I could talk to a manager in charge I regards to buying the shirt. She got a hold of a Frank who she asked and that was it. She told be that only that specialized team could take it off and I should come back tomorrow to get it. I asked if I could provide my name so I can reserve it when it comes off since I go back to work tomorrow. She said "no". Ok so now I will tell you why I am highly upset and will be contacting Macy's on an escalated scale. In this economic climate can you afford to disappoint customers? I get that it only a $30 dollar item, but every dollar counts. It's bust-form mannequin you can easily take off the shirt and pin another damn one on. I know this because I worked at a Macy's in college. I didn't need specialized training I just had common sense. This place has just been getting worse and worse. I rarely go to this location anymore. Lines are long and slow employees when it matters the most. When it's dead-it's really dead and you can rarely find a worker, let alone one to help you. Surprised it's still standing, especially being an anchor store. I went in to make a return on a cosmetic/perfume item and one lady sent me to another lady and back. It seemed like most of them just didn't want to help at all. Eventually I saw a manager who told me that they will not return it for me because it has been over 30 days. I told him the return policy says 180 days. He said no, it's 30 days and has been like that for over 25 years. I was really surprised because I've never heard or read that anywhere. I told him that's news to me and went on my way. Went to my car and pulled up the applicable "exceptions policy" - lo and behold 180 days. He lied to my face, authoritatively. Basically lectured and patronized me. Just not worth it to go back in. I came in to pick up an order and Ashley knew exactly what to do to accommodate a customer who had negative experiences with Macy's. The computer was not acting properly. She explained the situation and remained calm. While doing this, she resolved the problem and still did it with a smile. 2/12- came in to pick up my order because I got an email that it is READY. Got there, and the Filipino lady couldn't find it. She checked 2 times. I was promised a phone call at lunch time the next day with a follow up. 2/13 No call was made. Of course. I called the 800 Macy's number at 2pm and was transferred to a call center in the Philippines. It was confirmed that the item is there at the store. At 230pm I can't get through to the actual store because no one answers the department. I've even tried Men Suits, Cosmetics, Kids dept, and no one answered ANY department! Somehow, I got connected to the Call Center again after pressing I don't know what..... And I explained that I need only to be connected to the Guest Services Desk at the Daly City location and I do not wish to deal with them again since I've already called. She explains the extension I need is 2051 but connects me immediately. I explain my situation to the lady answering the phone (some white girl). I inform her I need a Manager because I am not going all the way back to Daly City until someone has my package in hand. She informs me she will look for it herself and call me back personally and then if she doesn't find it she can get the Manager. She calls me back at 3:06pm and tells me she has my item in hand. I arrive at the store @6pmish. And with my luck, I get helped by the same initial Filipino lady from 2-12. I informed her that I was not called today but that it took me so much effort to get thru to someone at the store because no one answers - and she just agrees no one answers the phones. She scans the bar code of my email, again... And is gone for a long time, again.... And again, she can't find the package!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok common denominator from both days is HER. So i demand a Supervisor and explain a white girl called me at 3:06 saying she had my item in her hand! The filipino lady had a colleague with her at the same counter (chinese lady). The filipino lady is holding the print out with my order information, she grabs a package behind the counter, and the Chinese lady is looking at the package and says that this is the package. The Filipino then says "But this is Joves" - implying it is NOT the package....... Joves is MY last name so I yell "I AM JOVES!!! I AM THE PICK UP PERSON LISTED ON THE ORDER AND THE ORDER WAS PLACED UNDER DIVINA VIRAY!!!"---- Are you kidding me?!?!!!!!!!!!!!! These old lady's need to retire immediately. I yell at both of them that since they work at Guest Services they need to know that 2 NAMES CAN BE ON ONE ORDER WHEN AN ORDER IS PLACED ON MACYS.COM!!! And guess what, the Filipino then responded they know this. And that she just got there - meaning her shift just started. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!???! Maybe it's just the quality of employee's or the managers at Macy's that make me write a critique about a clothing outlet. Put the store is complete trashed, let me rephrase, the store is messy and uncleaned. Clothing racks left from the previous day employees step on the clothes they're selling as they lay on the floor and some even collect dust in corners. It is no wonder retailers are closing left and right. I ended not purchasing anything since I lost interest in overpaying for items that where more likely collecting dust somewhere in this store.
