Dennis Large is the absolute best!!! My fiancé and I unexpectedly had to return a bunch of items from our registry. We were dreading it, because we thought it was going to be a pain in the neck and we were going to catch a ton of attitude from the person helped my us. Well little did we know we were about to catch a dose of Dennis (definitely NOT the menace) Large! This man handled our returns with such a friendly and positive attitude, and took care of everything so quickly, my fiancé was in shock for about two hours after we left the store. In my opinion, this is one of the better Macy's in the area. They are usually nicely stocked on the items I need and if not, I never have a problem with an associate ordering them for me. My family and I have been here so many times that we actually know several of the employees by name and they know us. LOL! Friendly staff, large selection of items and convenient...what more can a girl ask for? Oh that's right, coupons! I always get to use my coupons here, granted they only apply to certain things, except those wonderful Family & Friend sales where the coupons apply to everything, but the prices are very reasonable on a normal sale day. I've even had a professional stylist assist us in the men's department on an outfit for my dad. Never an issue when I shop here and I have no complaints. read more

Very disappointing experience dealing with Macy's customer service recently. I had unfortunately purchased an item that arrived "not as pictured," and I hoped to contact someone at customer service who would be able to assist me with arriving at a reasonable solution -- after a half-hour on the phone, I finally reached someone who immediately understood the problem and really wished to assist, though she explained that due to Covid, they were operating on a limited staff. Needless to say, she promised to follow up, but I have heard nothing to date. The item was not expensive, and frankly, I shouldn't have wasted my time seeking a remedy. Amazon handles customer service so much more efficiently. I guess that I expected that Macy's would have buttressed their customer service department to encourage online purchases. read more

This Macy's is typical of all the Macy's (and now Hecht's) that I have been in. The selection is good, and if you're willing to hunt for it, you can often find what you want, often at a decent price. The store though is too big, and they try to cram too much into the space. The result is that it feels crowded, and disheveled--clothes falling off the overcrowded racks, on the floor, etc. Stores like this need to learn a little more about planning--sometimes, less is more. I don't need that 5th orange turtleneck sweater option--I can do with 4. The 5th one just makes everything look crowded and unappealing. Also, alot of the items that I found here were damaged--torn or dirty from lying on the floor or being pulled on or off racks. As I said, if you're willing to hunt for what you want, go for it. Went here planning on spending over $500 on clothing however they did not have any women's dressing rooms open when I asked the cashier she said she closed the dressing room down at 7 because she had to get on the register and they were under staffed ( even though the was no one in line and several other cashiers) Then she suggested that I should use the men's room. We asked to speak with the manager who told us she would not let us use it and said some one had an accident in it even though the cashier told us a different story. Manager was using COVID as a pore excuse for her bad customer service. I will probably never shop here again thanks to the sad excuse for management. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

On November 23th I ordered a vacuum and was supposed to pickup in stores at 4pm so I drove over 50 minutes just to be told be order not ready. Next day I got an email saying it has to be shipped so I called customer services and stayed on the phone over 20 minutes then was told it will be overnight. Still no vacuum so I called again and another representative said it will arrive December 7th. Now I got an email saying it's canceled. What a waste of my time. This is very ridiculous as I could have been went somewhere else and got a vacuum. Also not sure why my item was canceled and reordered when the item seems like it was never available to begin with. Extremely bad service and poor coordination.  I am Not excited at all to be Macy's platinum member with the poor service I have received. Just terrible. Wish I can give no star. read more

*Review for the Calvin Klein counter* As I was looking around, this super perky lady pops out of no where. She asked did I need help, and I told her that I need Euphoria. She took me to the gift sets and showed me the better buys for my needs. I sprayed on the sample, and she said "That scent on you will make men drop to their knees." Well, I want the gift set with the two bottles. (Don't judge me! I'm single with two cats.) She was very helpful in her knowledge of other fragrances, and I even got great samples and a cute Marc Jacobs bag with my purchase :-) Kasey was the one who "rung up" my purchases and she was just as sweet. read more

Came to return an online purchase. There were 3 door dash drivers also waiting in line to pick up and were told to wait in line. One of the drivers asked to speak to a manager about their customers online paid purchase that they just needed to pick up and having to wait in line seemed to defeat the purpose. The manager didn't seem interested in trying to expedite the pick up process for the door dash drivers which is unfortunate because door dash over all is helping their sales. read more

Not only did they never text me to notify me it was ready, but would not even answer the phone when I tried to check status. I wish I could give Macy's online zero stars, but then I couldn't share this review with others! I started ordering gifts for Christmas, in November. I had plenty of time to receive my orders before Christmas. I ordered 8 items, and I did pretty well, as far as prices, as I got in on Black Friday deals. Weeks went by, and no gifts. After checking the status of my order, I saw it was delivered on December 4th. No it wasn't! And that's when the fun began. Call after call, out of stock, out of size, I make other purchases, now at higher prices, I try to get my credit card refunded, order again: a ticket was issued, but no item. Now it's out of stock... I've been a loyal customer of Dayton's, Marshall Field's, and Macy's, since 1976. No more!!! What a horrible holiday shopping experience. And for those who ask, why didn't you just go to the stores, well, if I were healthy, I sure would have. Maybe Macy stores would be doing better, if they hadn't outsourced their jobs!!! And after finding out the last item, which was an outfit for my granddaughter was lost in cyberspace, the customer service representative in India asked if I wanted to participate in a survey. I was in the Intimates Department and was literally told by a sales associate that I could not try on a 2-piece Alfani pajama set (reg price - $69.50) because it was packaged as a gift set using ribbon. Not only was I not able to try it on, I was also told I couldn't return it if it didn't fit for the exact same reason. She explained that the staff do not know how to repackage 2-piece pajama sets and put the ribbon back on correctly; therefore they prohibit the ribbon from being removed. Needless to say, I left. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous and customer unfriendly. read more

The Columbia Macy's is pretty standard. They have a lot more selection of items since Columbia has a good retail market. The store isnt very organized though. The employees do not keep the store looking good and you will typically find clothes and items everywhere and misplaced. Also, be sure to check online and get the "wow" shopping pass they have up there once in a while and bring it into the store for an extra 10-15% off. read more

This Columbia Mall Macy's hits a few of my must haves for a department store. The customer service I've received has always been pretty good. Either by luck or by good training all the associates and sales people have been polite and courteous. This is a large, fairly packed Macy's and on occasion it can get a little disheveled. The Men's section is a decent size but the Urban style section is pretty hard to find specific items. There is a prominent Sean John display in front of the urban style area that is organized but the rest is a bit of a craps shoot. The areas that feature a brand are a little better but in general it's a little too hectic for me. The women's sections are similar, you can find stuff if you have some time to look. There is almost always a sale going on and usually you are able to take advantage of at least 20% off. This is still a solid Macy's that can most likely provide whatever you might be looking for. read more

Don't trust the availability of products for online shopping. I ordered a set if crystal bar ware 2 days ago and requested pick-up at the Columbia, MD store because it indicated the product was immediately available and could be picked up that day. The item is still not available for pickup, so I ordered the same item from a different retailer so I could get it immediately. Customer service has been unhelpful and will not refund my money until the item is in the store. read more

The absolute worst. I ordered a children's coat for an adopt a family program and they not only did not notify me when it had shipped to my local store, but sent me a refund confirmation with the note 'customer did not pick up.' Called customer service and they said I could pick up in another state or ship to my store...after the holiday. I usually try not to leave bad reviews, but the service desk that you have to either return your online order to was a little insulting today. I came in to return two pairs of shoes this morning. She asked me why I was returning them, I told her that my daughter did not like them. As she is inspecting them, she turns to someone in her early 20's and says "do you like these". The young woman's response was, "my mother owns a pair." I laughed and see, I guess that validates why I'm bringing them back. I'm not sure why anyone who is in customer service would have a funky attitude about people returning something, while working at the returns desk. Mind you, this was at 11am in the morning, and I was the ONLY person in line. the customer service area had at least four people behind the desk. So her attitude couldn't have anything to do with it being busy. Either way, I have worked in the service industry my entire life, and I would never treat someone with dismissive behavior. read more

I just walked out of Macy's and will probably not go back there ever. I have been in Columbia all my life but today marks the first time I was ever profiled in a shopping experience. My fiancé and I are African American and today we're buying furnishings from Macy's including a $4000 bed. As we checking out, we did not have our Macy's card and in past the sales clerk would just look it up, however today she called into the credit department. She told the phone rep we needed $4000 - my fiancé asked the telephone rep why did this call need to occur. He said it did not and was for a credit increase. It dawned on me at that time she mentioned this before that she needed to call it in but I did not know why. Once the phone rep learned the reason for the call he indicated it was not necessary. Diane then said she knew she could get the number from the computer but assumed we did not have enough credit so she called it in. I spoke to the Furniture Manager names Ashley who indicated she would review. Very, very negative experience. I hope this person is counseled and Macy's follows up with changes Update - this issue was escalated to the store manager Amy L who has been an incredible ambassador for Macy's. She has shown tremendous empathy regarding how this situation was handled and also detailed how this will not happen again. We will continue to be loyal Macy customers because of Amy. read more

We saw a commercial on TV advertizing a mattress sale so, off we went. The bedding department is CRAMPED and impossible to navigate. We had to take shifts standing by the stroller to check out the different mattresses. The salesman was less than helpful and SLOW. We took a look and came back on our way out of the mall to make our purchase. After about 20min of standing around waiting, we left without a mattress. It was so disappointing. read more

We purchased a platform bed on March 23 from Garrett Perry at the Ballston store. He was efficient, knowledgeable, and very friendly. No sales pressure, lots of good information, and a quick transaction. It is difficult to comparison shop (the model name and number used by one retailer is rarely the same as that of a competing retailer, but this is not unique to Macy's; seems they all do it), but we did look at what seemed to be comparable platform beds from other suppliers and the Macy's price was similar to others. The delivery was also an excellent experience. Juan called before arriving (and arrived within the time window provided), and he quickly assembled the bed and helped us inspect the merchandise. He was very pleasant and informative. This is not our first large home purchase at Macy's of Ballston, and we have always had a good experience. read more

In general, I like Macy's. I seem to be able to find any clothing (the only thing I buy a department stores) that I want at a fair price. That being given, this is probably my favorite Macy's period. As it is attached directly to a parking garage, I have always been able to get in and out quickly with few problems other than sometimes having to park on the upper level. The staff in the men's section is very helpful, always steering me to the item I need with the best price, not necessarily the most expensive. The only thing I refuse to buy here is ties, and that's only because they are overpriced for styles that are probably only good for the season. But who does sell reasonably priced good quality ties any more. read more

I read about a month ago that Macys was planning to close a number of stores; shopping at the one in Columbia Mall; I understand why. The entire store is disorganized, and good luck finding a sales associate to help you. The changing rooms are always dirty. I used the in-store pickup a week ago, and they have it tucked it away in the lingerie department in the back of the store, no sign to direct you there. I guess having it at the customer service area would make too much sense. No thanks, I'll take my money somewhere else. read more
