8.11.23 This was my first time shopping here. I generally don't shop at thrift stores because I am a germaphobe, but I was next door at Ross and had time to kill. This thrift store has mostly used items, but you'll also find new items with the original tags still on them. They have apparel and shoes for men, women, and kids. Additionally they have home goods including toys, kitchenware, appliances, electronics, linen, books, sporting goods, and much more. I was pleasantly surprised to see a number of designer and high quality apparel with the original tags still on them. While other apparel items looked only lightly worn. Among the brands I saw were Vince Camuto, Coach, White House Black Market. Most of the apparel were between $5-$20. In perusing the dresses, I was impressed at how stylish they were. Most of the shoes I saw looked worn and dirty. I wouldn't purchase shoes unless they were brand new. I didn't buy anything this time, but will definitely come back to shop for apparel. read more

This thrift store is massive. When you want to thrift, you should give this spot a try. Compared to other thrift stores, it is at least twice as big. This is well organized and has ample items to browse through. If you are in need of clothing, you can definitely find several different types of outfits while in here. Even though there is ample stock, it will take you a long time to browse through here. It is hard to know what you might find. I was in the electronic section and had to take my time to go through items to make sure that they had all the pieces. That was when I wasn't actively being pushed through aisles. Then there is the congestion at the registers. For some reason they decided to put the line to get to the registers right where you enter/exit the store. Making for some interesting movement within the store. They do have some wild pricing here too. There are some unique items they happened upon, but the prices for a donated item that they don't do anything with but put out for sale, is wild. read more

The Columbia 2nd Ave has some of the worst customer service I've experienced at a thrift store, especially compared with the Laurel location. During our visit, my wife picked up a bundled stack of empty DVD cases that appeared to be with the merchandise, and instead of simply explaining that they were for store use, an employee abruptly grabbed them away from her. We were completely fine with them not being for sale. The problem was the unnecessary rudeness. Other employees were polite enough to double-check, which made the first employee's behavior stand out even more. The pricing is also far too high for donated merchandise. I tested several electronics and small appliances, and a few were defective or did not work properly, yet they were still priced aggressively. When used items are priced close to retail, customers should at least be able to expect basic functionality and decent service. I contacted the company afterward and received a generic response that technically answered my question but did little to address the actual experience. The Laurel store is much better managed and far more pleasant to shop at. read more

This is a customer that purchased a soup machine, yesterday I already donate alot stuff in the past, and so I received alot of coupons, if your electronic machine or device does not work, no refund, that is unfair to me.I won't donate anything to this store anymore, terrible service, letting everyone know be careful and cautious with this store, don't purchase anything here, there is a no return policy so I warn you all that it is better to donate items to other stores like Goodwill and Red Cross. I have been coming here for years and this place has unfortunately really gone downhill. They used to have a solid refund policy and dressing rooms. They've gotten rid of the dressing rooms and I believe the return policy is now something along the lines of being able to exchange something within fourteen days and it has to be the exact same price. This store is very large, so there's a lot to look through. BUT the problem here is the pricing!!!! Everything is overpriced in my opinion. Anything that's genuine leather was like $50. That's not exactly thrift store pricing to me. Same with a lot of name brands, if it was a good brand it was higher price than anything else. I've been in a few times...I'm not really a person who is into thrifted clothing but sometimes I have a need for a specific item I don't want to pay a lot for. I've found success sometimes (like when I am looking for a white button up shirt) and other times none at all (like when I'm searching for a particular color scheme among the various types of clothing). It's hit or miss, which I guess is the nature of these kinds of places. It's a good go to though, so I'll return as needed. read more

Decent thrift store, a ton better than the goodwill in Columbia. Right next to Ross. There is plenty of space in the parking lot to park. I was able to find a few things even though I was not necessarily looking for anything. This place is especially good if you are looking for toys and clothing for small children. There are lots of self-checkout stations which is nice. The main problem I had with this store is they do not accept donations at this center. You need to go to the Laurel location in order to donate anything. They do not accept apple pay. read more

This 2A Thrift Superstore is located in Columbia, MD. It is full of hidden discounted treasures. There are a number of clothing merchandise for the whole family. There are also household goods, books, DVD's, CD's, and assorted games. Shopping at 2A Thrift Superstore is well worth it. read more

Our family LOVES coming to 2nd Ave. We've gotten so many good finds in clothing and other items here, and the prices make us only want to buy thrift when it's an option. There are regular sales (50% off and 33% off respectively on two colors everyday, 50% off two colors on Thursday and Sunday, and other holiday sales where eg all clothes are 50% off) which make things really worth buying. Sometimes when an item isn't on sale, it can seem a little pricey for second hand but I think 2nd Ave is still usually cheaper than some of the other thrift stores I've been to in the area. I appreciate that they keep relatively clean and have fitting rooms to try stuff on before buying (no returns!). The Laurel store is bigger than the Columbia one, but I can't say that either isn't great. Both are excellent. read more

Some frequent shoppers there every day are in some collusion with the store staff which is understandable, these people basically unemployed by choice and must bribe, lie and possibly kill to get the best merch and get rid of their competitors. Once a young girl employee took the cart with bins with small bags out to the wall and was about to hang them, so I approached the wall to wait when she's done, but then this "frequent shopper" took the whole grey bin from her cart and dumped into his shopping cart so I would not even touch it. And guess what, that employee was just standing there and waiting when he is done dumping all small bags into his cart to sort them on his own. This tells me that this shopper is bribing store staff in some way and possibly management. Noticed that when he looks at his phone as he gets a message he starts running to the end of the store where employees take carts out, which tells me store stuff are on his payroll. I heard employee telling him that she put some stuff he wants like at the edge of the shelf of some special location. This is just beyond ridiculous! read more

I like thrift shopping. First time in here was yesterday. Never even noticed this place before, but then again I don't come to this area very often. I've seen the Laurel location but never went to that one either. The place was packed. I did some browsing, but I didn't find anything that jumped out at me. I picked up a $6 skirt that looked cute but as I examined it I saw that it was torn by the zipper in the back. Definitely inspect anything thoroughly before buying! No returns here. Didn't end up buying anything at all. Probably won't go out of my way to come in here, but I'll check out the Laurel one. read more

I love this 2nd avenue thrift store and their other locations. Great finds and their reward system is cool. They have turned to mostly self checkout, which is interesting. Some times it is hit or miss, which is to be expected. But, there is such a wide variety of things to select from that it makes bargain hunting fun. I will continue shopping with them! read more

I've been to a few thrift shops but 2nd Ave takes it to a different level. The amount of dish ware, holiday items, drapery and tablecloths really surprised me. We went in looking for teacher cups for a bridal shower and came out with gorgeous pieces along with perfect pairing decorations for a price that couldn't be beat. It was really clean and the parking lot was big and easily accessible. They have a large selection of clothing, pictures, Knick knacks, and basically anything you could think of, they have in stock. The cashiers are quick and friendly and made the long line feel like a brief wait time. You'll find a bunch of holiday items, they even take artificial Christmas trees that were in great condition. They don't put out junk items-- their stock is well maintained and chosen well. Also, the aisle are rather wide so it's not a battle getting carts past other people. I highly recommend 2nd ave even just for browsing. read more

It was my first time thrifting and my friend and I were in this store for over 4 hours because it's so massive and there's so much amazing stuff. I bought an unopened pasta maker for 13 bucks, cute unworn heels for 7, and a beautiful Italian leather purse for only 9 bucks. She also had great luck and found an amazing leather jacket for 50, some skirts and several pairs of shoes. Come here for great finds because some of the stuff is brand new. You just have to sort through to find the stuff you like! read more

I've been to this thrift many times. Sometimes I score, sometimes I leave with nothing. Pluses: it's spacious, well-lit, and seems pretty clean. There is a good selection of housewares. Great for basic baking pans, pots & pans, dishes, glassware. You could do well here if you need to outfit your first home for cheap. I've gotten some nice clothes here but I mostly go for the housewares. Housewares are all sorted by type so you can easily skip the stuff you aren't interested in. Employees are really nice for the most part. They will now price unmarked items at the register---big improvement! Minuses: When I shop for clothes, it's mostly wool sweaters and the majority of them have moth holes. Sometimes they're cheaper if the holes are obvious but often they're not. As for housewares, certain "departments" have a lot of the same junk week after week---cheap glass vases from florists, plastic water bottles (100++!), chipped dishes, beat-up woodenware. Always look closely for damage or missing parts. The self-checkouts were a welcome change but months later most/all of the hand scanners don't work. They also only have one poorly-placed small sign to designate where the line forms and many people don't see it and jump the line without meaning to. And lastly, the pricing seems pretty arbitrary, like a pyrex pie plate for $5 is right next to the exact same pie plate for $3; a saucepan with lid is $4 and the exact same brand with no lid is $7. Someone in another review said there's no transparency about where they get their stuff since they don't take direct donations. There's a page about this somewhere. They are a for-profit business but they buy used goods in bulk from charities that DO get donations, and those charities use that money to fund their own projects (aid to veterans, disabled people, etc.) read more

Literally the best thrift store I've ever been to. The amount of stuff to look through is insane and I found so many cool things that I couldn't contain my happiness lol. I made it maybe an eighth of the way through the store and had filled one of the small carts. Prices weren't great but not horrible either (keep in mind though that I only looked through decor type items). Prices in that section ranged from about $0.50 to $10 which compared to buying new is an insane price cut. I'm a cheapskate so the $10 items were sometimes pushing it for me . Good quality stuff and clean store too. Not to mention that my middle school aged brother is excited for our next trip; he really enjoyed looking through everything and in all honesty I feel like most kids (and adults) tend to turn up their noses at used stuff. Anywho, it was a great experience and I'm ready for my next trip. P.S. bring your own bags! You have to pay for bags (10 cents per bag when I went last so not bad but definitely helps if you bring your own). Plus you can't take the carts out of the store since they have tall poles attached to them to prevent people from stealing them. read more

I always leave with something when i come into this store. It's huge and has so much to sort through, you'll spend more than and hour here if you love thrifting. Can sometimes find brands like coach, ck, Ralph Lauren, and London Fog. The employees are diligent with keeping racks tidy and minimizing stuff that end up of the floor. No fitting rooms. How are you supposed to know if something fits if you can't try it on? Loudspeaker announcements in Spanish only. They should be in English also. I have been in this store before just casually looking, but today I needed a need wardrobe so really took the time to browse and came out a winner. I walked away with 3 ties, 3 slacks, 5 shirts and 2 sports jackets for a little over $125.00. There are lots of clothes here and if you dig into the racks you can find some treasures at really low prices. I scored a Ralph Lauren Sports Jacket for $29. I do frequent this thrift store because it really is the only decent one around. Their prices use to be be reasonable but after COVID they went way up! You can find nice things if your into really looking. I wish they would inspect some of their items more closely before putting them on the floor. I do always manage to find something lovely though. I like this place. Despite my frequenting Columbia, I had no idea that this place even existed. This thrift store is nothing like what I expected it to be, it is one of the cleanest thrift stores that I have seen, and things are organized nicely. However, it is still a thrift store, and you will still need to pick and search for whatever it is that you are looking for. Depending on the day, you will receive a color related discount. The day that I went, I received 50% off of my purchase. I think it is probably best to visit on half price days, as some of their regular prices seem a little high for thrift, either that or I am extremely cheap. Could be both. Prices are astronomical! Lot of USED items costlier than Walmart. How is this possible? So I did some research. Changing donations to either Salvation Army or Goodwill. They are actual non-profits that utilize over 80 cents on the dollar to the Charity cause. 2nd AVENUE Stores,owned by for profit Savers and are a public company generating over 1.5 Bilion annual profit pays charities 17 cents on the dollar to buy donated items, then resell for profit. If you really want your "stuff" to go to charities, find those that actually are non-profit and utilize your donations to help others. 2nd Avenue helps themselves! read more

This place can be crazy when it has great sales. I recently started thrift store shopping not long ago and it has helped my budget for work, summer outfits and home items. Staff are friendly and parking is not that bad if you go there at an earlier time. Some clothing items still have the original name brand tags which i like because you know it hasn't been worn.
