Burgers were burned so we sent back. They came back better, but same old buns with the burnt still on it. Same fries came back cold. Was $30.00 for 3 people, we paid and were disgusted. Spoke to the owner about this and his only comments were........."It's hard to get good help, some employees are new, and people still training. Although I could sympathize that he had mostly kids working there, I was not offered any compensation for such a crappy meal. The oldest worker might have been 21 and their were probably 15 employees running around. My husband has been going to Max's for over 40 years and never had such a bad experience. We will not be going back! Better burgers for cheaper at McDonalds........... read more

When we were visiting family in Geneva I insisted we go to Mac's because it is an experience. But what surprised me was how great the food was!!! (has it always been this great and I just forgot??). Specifically, the chicken is amazing. My husband and I had chicken sandwiches, my dad the chicken dinner, and my daughter had the chicken tenders -- all were truly great. We also had the peach sundae which was another surprise -- fantastic! Great option during the pandemic, for sure. read more

Stopped there today for lunch while visiting the area. I don't get all the hype. Burgers Are very plain. Nothing comes with them. Not even pickles on the side. I read that they've been here since 1961. It can't be for the burgers. Root beer was good tho, It looked like a fun stop. read more

Great Coke. Good food. Fast service.

Another fifties style restaurant in my hometown with great prices and drive in ramps which was always a treat for me as a kid.

The food is not good. Taste a lot like high school cafeteria food. Quite dirty and just overall a poor experience.

One of the best places to stop at during the warm months! Guaranteed to get great food at a cheap price. It's like the 60's all over again! read more

Mac's Drive-In - Menu! - American Near Me - Waterloo, New York

I had lunch with my son here today. I was discussed watching them prepare the food. The older man who prepared the food pulled a plastic glove from his shirt pocket to place the burger on the bun, however he held the spatula, after spotting away flys, with the gloved hand and opened the bun (which was taken from inside of a warmer and still inside the plastic bag - the bun was stuck to the plastic) with other un-gloved hand. Then folded and put the glove back in his shirt pocket after wiping it clean on the back of his pants. Then he continued on to make a pizza with no gloves and placing the pizza on the counter, which also had flys and some other insect I've never seen. To wind things up, they only take cash and the nearest ATM is over 2 miles away. The sign the says "Cash Only" was covered up by cans of grease and empty bags. I've driven by this place many times, which lead me to think it must be good food. However, after talking to some of the locals through out the rest of the day they ALL clarified the the food is shit and cleanliness is unspeakable. All of them said the only thing worth getting on the entire menus is the soft serve ice-cream. I will never, ever stop in again. Two big thumbs down read more

This place is a must-do!!! It is an old-fashioned drive in restaurant, complete with car hops. The food is always good, and it is cooked by your server. They even make their own root beer! Love it! Remember, it is cash only! read more

Love Macs drive in, I wish it was open all year! Everything I have gotten here was awesome! Bring cash they do not take cards here. Try a burger with onion rings & a root beer or milkshake AWESOME. read more

We stop in for supper, we sat at the counter and was greeted by Scott about 1min sitting. We ordered two drinks and a large pizza with an order of small fries. The place was busy but not slamed. Scott brought us our drinks and returned 10 min later with our pizza and fries. The food was awesome and the same for the root beer floats. Scott check on us 5min into our meal to make sure everything was good. We left there with full stomachs and a big smile on our faces! Scott made our experience a great one. Thanks Scott snd Mac's for a great meal! read more

After driving hours to get to the Finger Lakes, there is nothing more comforting than a cheeseburg and a glass of cold root beer at Mac's. Service is very friendly, the atmosphere soothingly retro, and the prices are ridiculously low (please keep them that way!). One of the few true drive-ins left in North America, so check it out! read more

This place is amazing! I ordered a fish basket, which was a fish sandwich with fries, and cabbage salad (coleslaw). I also ordered a root beer which came in a frosted mug. The root beer is enough to go there on its own. The fries are hand cut and just super good. The fish was crispy and has a nice flavor, and the bun was a standard hamburger bun. I am sad that I will be moving out of the area in a few weeks so I might not get to go back here. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! The menu is simple (burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, floats, and an array of sides), but it seems like there is something for everyone here. They even have pizza! I didn't get to see the drive in portion in action, but there were cars parked under the awnings. read more

This is a classic drive-in of the kind they aren't making anymore. I had an excellent fish sandwich. My husband downed a burger. Looks like the local favorite though are the hot dogs. Don't miss the awesome root beer on tap. If you're passing through don't miss it! read more

YEA!!! Mac's is open! The only place I get Chili/cheese dogs..yum. The macaroni salad is a nice add to the meal..and can't forget or neglect getting a large frosted glass of Richardson's RootBeer! read more

Stopped here for lunch on a lovely Saturday late August. The place was packed, almost every table was taken. We sat down at the counter and watched the show. Every worker in the place was on the move. We only waited a few minutes before someone took our order. Seconds later a second person stopped to make sure we were taken care of. At least two other workers just passed by and acknowledge our presence. They work together like a well oiled machine. The double cheeseburger was flat top fried and delicious. Hot dog was grilled to perfection. Go for the root beer float!!! Wonderful blast from the past. It is not to be missed!! read more

Absolutely delicious I'm beyond affordable! Such a great drive-up or eat-in the pavilion summer location. We will defiantly be back our drives from Ithaca to Buffalo! read more

Very good prices. Less than $4 for a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, however I would recommend ordering a side as well (the sandwich wasn't super filling)! The ice cream tastes amazing, but I do wish they had sprinkles. Love the atmosphere and being able to eat in the car or outside at a table! read more

A great throwback. I love this place. Great root beer, the food is simple but I love it. Wish this place was open all year round but I understand it can't be. Great service and great for the family. Car side service, tables or high top/bar. I love this place read more

We stopped at Mac's in search of some ice cream to ease the disappointment of a crummy dinner at a local lakeside restaurant. Our brief experience at Mac's turned our frowns upside-down, for sure! The young man working the counter was pleasant and friendly and the sundaes we ordered (Mexican & Butterscotch) totally hit the spot for us. The place was crawling with employees, but all were working on various tasks and never just sitting around socializing or staring at their phones. Prices are totally reasonable from what we spent on our sundaes to what we saw on the menu board. We both agreed to make it back to Mac's for an actual meal before we leave the area!! Side Note: This is a cash-only joint! read more

Great little drive-in with low prices and good food. We had the double cheeseburger and the chicken sandwich and they were both delicious. The fries were also yummy. The root beer was great and the vanilla shake we chased our lunch down with really hit the spot. Hope to be able to come back here next time we're in the area. read more

This Place Was Such A Great Family Place and a place to feel loved me you stepped Back in Time with the Great Simple Days When Our Parents Would Pack Us Up For A Ride And we would Go Have A Saturday Lunch. Great Tasting Cheeseburgers And ohh Those Mini Honey Buns. Ummm... The Door Ton at Service Excellent And So Fast And Courteous. I can't Say Anything Bad about this place. read more

Loved the whole experience. The fries, homemade, were crisp as I enjoy them (I usually don't order fries). The cheeseburger was to perfection, juicy but not undercooked. The kids enjoyed the experience of being served at the car. We'll be back. read more

The hamburger was great tasting and a good deal. The 1/4 cheeseburger was pricey for what you got . We did enjoy the french fries however . The service was ok, but perhaps it was the time- one hour before closing. read more

I'm only 30 but man the place made me feel like I was in the 50's. The food was good, the prices were cheap, the service was friendly. The place was clean and there were many seating options. Four grown men were able to fill up for $35 and we got a lot. read more

Have been driving by the place for over 10 years but never stopped in. This past weekend we finally did. What a dissapointment. Boiled chicken with painted stripes to look like grill marks. Fried mystery meat pretending to be chicken. Onion rings that were factory made. Worse than frozen supermarket stuff. Milk shakes that held their shape even after being brought to room temperature. Over all the food is the worst I ever had at any restaurant. At least at McDonalds you know that you are getting third world products. I expected more from a long time "mom & pop" type of place. Please if you are considering stopping here, don't. Look for some road kill first. It will be fresher and better for you. David Clark Cape Cod read more

Stopped at Mac's with my grandchildren to have lunch, sat down at a table and watched 2 parties arrive after us get drinks, their orders taken and the orders served and we were ignored. Servers walked right by us and neither acknowledged us or made eye contact. The place was not packed, there was adequate staff, after 20 minutes we got up and left. Came here because their reviews were good...alas I cannot comment on their food but their service stinks! read more

Wow what a rip off. Four guys behind the counter , five of them did not know which was where. ( yes, I said five as four of the, stumbled over each other.) I ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings. I heard the oldest quietly say to the younger, he is not a regular. I saw the quarter pounder.. Go to a basket. I got ? An eighth pounder with freezer burnt then over fried onion rings. Charged for meat sauce that was hidden from somewhere. Never saw my bill, never saw the different pricing between being a regular vs outsider for the burger prices. The kicker, a large group was forming as I sat down. The waiter? Took their order. The rest of the group arrived within 5 minutes. One of the other wait staff asked if he had taken the balance of the orders. No, he replied I will wait to cook the earlier order then let them order. A single lady walked out as she got no service. This all at lunch time noon to 12:30. I remember and knew personally one of the founders. My my my has this place from a one to negative zero. My last,I all four wait staff was crying as they had no tips.. Duhville. read more

I love Mac's! We go there everytime we're up here in the summer. It's cheap and good and I just love the retro aspect. Root beer floats are a must! Or if you're a beer drinker, they have PBR on tap! Also, they have white hots--not something you can get in NYC! read more

Fun atmosphere! Great friendly service! Good prices! French fries were wonderful! Cool old fashion dine in!

Found this place going to the outlets in Waterloo NY. What an experience for my family felt like we were transported into the 50s. It's a real drive in where you put the trays on the windows. We opted to eat at the counter where we were warmly greater. Prices are so low I thought it was a mistake. First off we got a root beer float. Best I've ever had. In a frosted mug no less. From there I ordered the fried chicken plate. I got 1/2 a chicken. fresh cut french fries and cole slaw and 2 honey buns for 6.oo and boy was it good. My son ordered a fried fish basket that had a nice peace of Haddock for 5.00. If you're in the FInger Lakes area it's a must try. Cash only. read more
