It's come to this: the Colman Building Barbershop is the only place I'll get my hair cut anymore…read more I've had cheap haircuts and I've had expensive ones. Robby's shop falls somewhere in the middle, price-wise, but his work and his partner Madison's are consistently at the top of the list when I get out of the chair and get a look at what they've done. There's never that awkward "oh no, what am I going to do with this?" moment when you see it for the first time. Simply put, their cuts look fabulous, every time. As experiences go, the Colman Barbershop is fun and relaxing. You can go expecting funny adult conversation with a racy edge to it, classic rock on the stereo, a comfortable old-school barbershop chair to sit in, and a phone that rings like a phone, not an electronic tweet. Robby and Madison not only deliver a great cut, they have genuine fun chatting with you and with each other while you're there. And men? Go with the knowledge that you're not quite done when your hair is done. You've got a rare treat in store before you're all the way finished, a back-of-the-neck shave with warm shaving cream and a straight razor, followed up with a warm wet towel. It's a delight for the senses not to be missed, and it feels fantastic afterwards. So. It comes to this: get thee to the Colman Building Barbershop for 45 minutes of entertaining downtime, for good music, for a little nostalgia, and most importantly, for the best haircut you'll ever have. Call me picky, but I won't settle for anything less.

The price is super fair, the vibe's chill, and the shop's right in the heart of Cap Hill. Great conversation, great atmosphere, and I walked out feeling sharper than I walked in. Highly recommend. 10/10

I count myself lucky to be a client of Bryan's and have a great shop to go to. But it also speaks to the lackluster quality of similarly priced barbershops out there. I've been getting haircuts from Bryan before he opened Assembly and I followed him there. The other barbers seem great and I got a haircut from Nate one time at the shop he and Bryan used to be at when Bryan had to call out and the quality remained the same as did what I was looking for in a haircut. I love the design and vibe of the shop. The products they use are simple but high quality. The equipment they use seems high quality. All that said, if you're looking for a high quality haircut l, I can't think of a better place to go.

My would be barber was still with another client and told me I was "a little early," even though I arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment. After that, no apology, no estimate, no plan--just awkward silence. I canceled. I'm sure they do great work, but the communication and concern could have been greatly improved.

Adrienne's work is always super clean and cuts feel specific to me instead of a generic one size fits all haircut. I wasn't too sure exactly what to get but I told her about what I was looking for in a haircut and she helped me figure out exactly what kind of cut I wanted! During the haircut, I chatted with all the staff, who were quite friendly, but also seemed to respect others who weren't so keen on striking up a conversation. In the end, I really liked how my haircut turned out as well so well done on that front! I think my only reservation was the cost, as the haircut costed $30 in total, which was quite a lot for me, perhaps since I'm used to suburban prices, whereas Belltown Barber is in the heart of Seattle. Overall, it turned out really nice and I will probably return here in a month or so to get my hair cut again.

Working downtown it's very convenient to walk over to his shop and get a cut. You can call ahead of time and make an appointment, or simply walk-in and wait in line. It still to this day surprises me how much Dave remembers from conversations with each of his customers. He will ask about stuff we discussed months prior. This really is the lost art of a personable, and easy going town barber. I hope he never retires! TIP: It's always good to call ahead. Dave sometimes takes off early or maybe out sick. However he's always very good about recording the message on his voicemail to let you know he's not there currently. He is open normal barber shop hours, so closed on Sunday and Monday. Typical open hours I've seen are 10AM - 5PM.
