We ordered the Diablo Pizza and thought it was the right amount of kick and sweet at the same time. We spent most of our night chatting away with the owner Walid and our waiter Brad. Hard to be let down by Macoletta, not only is it consistently one of the most delicious pizzas I've had in Queens, they have an interesting beer selection, and super friendly staff. This is the definition of "neighborhood joint". I've been probably 10x since they opened and each time as delicious as the last. When you walk by the giant window front, they wave. Friendly, fun, and the Ferrari of pizza ovens churning out pies. Great date spot, great spot for groups, or if you just want to sit at the pizza bar and hang. Can't recommend enough. read more

Moved to Astoria about a month ago and we are having a great time! Macoletta, aka our new pizza joint is right up the block and they've been getting our attention. Our second night here we were perusing the neighborhood and found Macoletta. It was quiet inside but charming. Rounded bar area and you can see their brick oven behind preparing all the pizzas in a timely fashion. We have gotten ourselves in a bit of a pickle because their best Neapolitan pizza is the Diablo (Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Pepperoni, Nduja, Salami, Calabrian Chili, Honey), and that's what we keep going for-- over and over and over. I also LOVE the Bianco. I really want to try their mushroom pie. Our first time there we told our server we had just moved to Astoria and they kindly sent us over their nutella pizza for dessert and a charcuterie plate, on the house. I promptly told them to stop feeding me so I didn't get fat the week I moved to the city ;) Can't wait to try the pasta! When is that getting added permanently to the menu?! read more

I'm back from Florida and stopped by my favorite Pizza and pasta restaurant in Astoria,Queens. I had a glass of wine and a small pizza that had spinach and cheese and mushrooms in this pizza and was served by Andrew. If you saw my first review last November, you will note I bring some of my pizza to my son who unfortunately is at the Manhattan Psychiatric Center on Wards Island. Not much to make Neil happy, but he always asks for a pizza from Macoletta's. I am happy to add that Neil is going to be inducted to the Manhasset Lacrosse Hall of Fame for his incredible Lacrosse skills in the early 1990's on LI but more for Manhasset recognizing our Community Service to raising over 100,000 cans of food in the past 10 years and Neil's encouragement to other kids suffering from Mental Illness. read more

Set back on a quiet Astoria street, it offers cozy seating options all within view of the impressive rotating pizza oven. It's mesmerizing to watch how quickly the pizzas cook but the pizza chefs work with such precision and top quality ingredients that you can taste. We ordered the pizza Bianca and the lemon chicken special (with some fresh lemon zest on top that gave it a really nice, bright, fresh flavor). Monday through Friday happy hour is a great deal with discounted pizzas and drinks. Even without happy hour, the pizzas are priced reasonably for the quality. As of last year I've been making it a habit to go to good pizza establishments to try out what this city has to offer in terms of "artisanal pizza". This past Friday (11/16) I went to Macoletta for dinner. I entered to an empty restaurant which made me skeptical about whether they had good pizza or not, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was a cold and wet Friday night. I placed an order for three pizza's (two margheritas, and one diablo). The pizza was extremely good, and very well priced. The most important things on a pizza are the ingredients (crust, sauce, cheese). The crust was perfect, and the cheese and sauce were not falling off. Our waiter treated us very well, along with the chef, and ownership. Love this place and I will be back for sure. read more

Service: Server was lovely Let me taste rose wine Refilled water often But we were one of only people there. When the place filled up, it all went downhill. We waited 20 min or so to pay the bill after we gave them credit card. We had to remind them we didn't pay The people next to us didn't ever order for like 30 min after they sat down. I don't think it's server's fault. He ran around quickly. But he was like the only server for the whole place. Food: I had high hopes. Pizza oven is beautiful But it seems like only fire on one side of oven so the pizza is rotated on a lazy Susan inside oven to cook and doesn't seem to cook evenly. Our pizza dough was undercooked and a little raw. We had margarita pizza. My husband didn't want to make a fuss. I wanted to send it back. My arugula salad looked different to the pic on here so idk if it was missing ingredients? It was fresh - arugula fennel and tomato - but a tiny plate - like a bread plate - for $12 is too much. I had the worst cappuccino. It was bitter and cold and tiny and $5. I couldn't track down my server to bring me sugar. None was offered. They do have lots of beer for lic and a few from Italy. still great!! love this place, have ordered from it a few times since my first review. they serve beer and wine now, a few selections of each. we got a Margherita pizza - they forgot the basil, whoops! and a Cara pizza which is vegan so no cheese (daiya anyone?) either way the pizza is delicious and worth the money!!! the salad in my opinion are a bit small for the price? they are fresh and more of an appetizer size (especially if you share between 2 people) but i really love salad and vegetables so maybe it's a bit skewed. the home-made mozzarella on one of the salads makes it more worth while but the price they're at now (at least $12) which is similar to the pizza makes it seem like the salad could be a meal but it's not. either way, will be back for more!! beautiful oven where you can watch your pizza rotate and cook- atmosphere is nice for date night but also comfortable for families! wishing this business lots of success!! read more

In theory this place is good but I don't know if they sprinkle sugar in the top or the bottom but it was so sweet it weirded me out I couldn't finish my pizza. The owner response was that they simply use fresh ingredients however I have had a lot of fresh ingredients in various scenarios and that doesn't make something taste this sugary, but what do I know. Some of the best authentic, brick oven Neapolitan pizza in NYC in a new, trendy venue with beautiful decor. *The crust here is awesome. Right amount of char and salt. The Margherita pie is divine (crispy, airy crust), home-made mozz, imported Italian tomatoes. It's the real deal. The Algerino pie is also a *must-order if you're into unique toppings (lamb sausage, smoked shallots, fontina). The lamb is sometimes *halal/zabiha so those who care, call that day and inquire. Pizza is made quickly (less than 5 mins), comes out piping hot, and smells great. Also, the house Macoletta salad is surprisingly complex, delicious, and healthy (kale, artichokes, fennel, avocado). Nutella pizza for dessert also looked decadent. The owner (Walid) is a SUPER friendly guy, tours all the tables and periodically checks in on you. The service here is A+ and very attentive. Omg! Totally amazing experience at Macoletta. Tried the Cara pizza with cheese (I un-Veganed the pizza)...It was great! The crust is doughy, tomatoes so fresh and a great balsamic reduction that pairs well w the arugula. Also had the Brussels and spinach salads - quite outstanding with fantastic dressing on each. Macoletta does a great brick-oven pie. I loved the Margarita! It was very fresh and the crust had that perfect, slightly-charred taste. Their pizzas are on the smaller side, so I would recommend getting a few to share. You can view the brick oven from all seats in the the restaurant, which I really liked. I wished the inside was a little more original. I didn't get an Italian vibe at all really. Overall, a great spot, though. Would recommend checking it out! read more

WORST run business ever. They used to have fresh truffles on their menu on grubhub/seamless, got charged $6 for it but then it was only truffle oil they put on and had to call the restaurant to get a refund. Another time a new person was in the kitchen and didn't add my roasted garlic to my pizza. (this incidentally was not a special added ingredient.- it was part of the normal pizza) excuse was it was a new kitchen person..... tonight was the last straw. I ordered a pizza after a grueling day and waited for an extra 10 minutes from the delivery window. The manaager said their order from grubhub was showing as cancelled when my bank account showed it was clearly charged and my order was still pending. Manager was supposed to be calling grub hub and then was supposed to call me back. NEVER CALLED, NEVER OFFERED TO MAKE THE ORDER OR SOLVE MY ISSUE. Terrible training, terrible service, no dependability in product. They had their 3rd strike. Deliver window was from 10:10- 10:20- I called at 10:30pm- hey called back and left a message at 10:37 saying they would make my order )I was on the phone with grubhub asking them to cancel my order) 10:40, I got a your delivery is on the way message..... little too late to salvage this customer and I try to cut our little neighborhood restaurants slack to help them make it. This is just unacceptable and the management need to realize how poor a job they have done at the one thing customers want....consistency of product/experience. read more

One of the finest caprese salads I've had (unexpected bonus), and definitely the finest pizza in our neighborhood (we had the lamb pizza, be sure to stop between bites to savor the seasoning). Seriously, my partner and I are ecstatic about this place. When they get their liquor license, all the better. One thing is - the menu is very limited. But since they do cheese like nobody's bizness, a ricotta pie would be heavenly. Oh! We ordered the Nutella pizza to go after our meal and it took all of 6 or 7 minutes to prepare. I've been to Macoletta a few times and the food has always been great, but tonight was super awesome. We sat at the pizza bar and started talking with the chef, Zoran. From the beginning of our visit until we left, Zoran was so great to talk to about the food we ordered and the pizza he was making for us. Zoran has a true passion for what he does and it's always so great to meet people who truly love what they do. We talked about everything from the ingredients in the food to traveling to his experiences making pizza. It's very rare to meet people who seem so excited about what they do after they have been doing it for so long, but Zoran was so enthusiastic and fun and it was hard not to be excited about what he was making us! On top of that- we were given an explanation of why Macoletta serves the beer that they do and how it is a rare import from Italy. Their beer and liquor purchaser explained why the beer was unique, even offering us a sample. Macoletta is a neighborhood favorite. We went on Halloween night and it was packed. The place was full and they only had ONE waiter that was working his butt of (Andrew you're the best). Why would they have a trick or treat sign and promote their business with only waiter on staff. And was taking delivery orders. Pouring the water and wine. Bussing tables. Taking orders. And was still nice to the customers. Poor guy. The mushroom truffle pizza was delicious so so good but the Bresola pizza was not good at all. Ordered delivery tonight and it was extremely tasty- mine was, anyway. My partner got the Algereno. It had lamb sausage, smoked shallots, Fontina, roasted tomatoes, rosemary and fresh oregano. Problem is, they were extra stingy with the sausage and that really brought the whole pizza together. We both agreed we'd rather pay a bit more and have more of that sausage flavor. I got the Crudowork San Marzana tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, arugula, grated Parmesabn Reggiano and. Prosciutto de Parma. Mine was perfectly balanced from an ingredient and flavor perspective.
