I HIGHLY recommend stopping here first and just skip the Apple store altogether. The backstory: My 2014 Macbook Air was going to sleep and not waking back up, forcing me to restart it. This was happening regardless of battery power, being plugged in, etc. The computer was fully functioning without any glitches. One day, I was unable to turn my computer back on. Took it to the Apple Store. The 'genius' at the counter was able to plug in my computer, run a hardware test with no issues, and asked to keep my computer to 'recreate the problem' since he couldn't find one. TWO DAYS LATER, I get a message to call the store. I spoke with the most idiotic, arrogant woman who told me that I needed to pay Apple $500 to have my computer sent out to the repair shop. I asked her what the problem was (I only spent $800 on the computer...no way I was spending $500 to fix it) and she was unable to tell me because they couldn't turn on the computer. Then she proceeded to tell me I should have purchased Apple Care, that I didn't seem happy, and that she did not know how to explain it to me that she was actually doing me a favor. Obviously, I hung up on her and called the store back to let them know I would be picking up my computer. When I retrieved my laptop, the guy told me that they don't know exactly what the problem is, but any part that would need replacing would cost more than $400. To his credit, he did suggest that perhaps my credit card benefits would extend the warranty on the product. Now, the purpose of this review. MacMedic is on my way to work. I randomly stopped in to see what they could tell me (because who pays for a non-identified repair?) before going forward with any decisions. 15 minutes later, they hand me my computer, tell me it is a 'mental' issue (with the computer, haha) and not a hardware problem. Gave me a few setting suggestions, and told me what to do if the problem keeps happening. Zero cost. They confirmed what I knew all along...software issue, not hardware. These guys just saved me a lot of money, time and aggravation. Not to mention less work productivity loss. They have also single-handedly saved Apple's reputation from this life-long Mac user. Terrible experience today. I'm sure the shop will respond but here are the facts. I walked in with 2 phones (Apple 6S) that Apple told me we're eligible for free battery replacements. MacMedics verified that they were eligible and took the 2 working phones. When I returned 2 hours later, they told me 1 phone was 6 days out of a three year warranty and was not eligible. Apple told me all it took was a phone call and they would have authorized. I went back after the call to Apple and got that battery replaced (with They said the other phone (still in the period to get battery replacement) had water damage and a cracked screen so it could not be serviced (fair enough). However the phone would turn on but the screen was inoperable. So it was not usable...a brick. This phone worked perfectly (besides a fast draining battery) when dropped off. The owner told me there was nothing he could do and would not take responsibility. So I'm just supposed to walk out of there down hundreds and hundreds of dollars with a brick when I went in for a free battery replacement. This is like walking in for a filling at the dentist and walking out with hillbilly dentures and a surgical bill. Seriously!! Still no apology from the owner even when I asked for one. What kind of empathy is that? He kept stating that i should have disclosed that the screen was cracked (nobody asked!!) and he couldn't fix the screen or battery due to Apple's policy on water damage. He says it trumps everything for his ability to fix anything. All I wanted was the working phone that I walked in with and got zero cooperation. Give me a phone that works! Update. After explaining the situation to Apple, they were appalled and are sending me a new phone. It's unfortunate that it couldn't have been handled professionally at MacMedics. In response to MacMedics. Check your records. Your statements are false and misleading. 1 phone was out of the timeframe. The damaged was not. My point with the 2nd phone that was 6 days out of warranty was that it took me a 5 minute phone call with Apple to get them to authorize the service. All I got from you was complaining how your company loses money on these transactions for Apple. Real professional. Your comment on the time is also false. My appt was at 11am. When I returned in the afternoon, I made sure to call and also made sure to arrive BEFORE your cut off. Again, a false statement. Concerning the cracked screen and water damage. The screen was clearly cracked, I had no idea that was an issue with getting the repair because you didn't mention it until you were trying to cover your butt. You didn't tell me that was an issue when you took the phone and plugged in the password ON THE CRACKED SCREEN. I wasn't aware there was water damage and wouldn't expect you to fix the phone once you saw it. Just give me my phone back working like it did when I gave it to you. This is what Apple was confused about, if you weren't supposed to take it apart with the cracked screen, why did you take it apart? It's a simple visual inspection. It was clear that they were not telling the truth when they said the phone worked when it was put back together. They would not let me talk to the tech that worked on the phone and got very uncomfortable to the point I had to walk away because I had my six-year-old son with me. It was honestly the most unprofessional experience I've ever seen in a place of business. As you can see, this business has twisted around every situation that they commented about. Don't worry about the guy complaining below me or anyone else on this page for that matter. A lot of it stems from end users being ill-informed of basic computing and wear and tear. In addition, warranties have rules and regulations for a reason, it's your responsibility to read the fine print and not freak out when a local business is trying to adhere to policy, especially considering the fact that it's Apple. Being a former employee of an Apple store customers will try to take advantage of loop holes in warranties whenever possible...That aside! This is a great local business. I have a 2012 iMac whose power supply decided to give up the ghost. Fortunately the part itself is pretty cheap, the bulk of expense was from labor. Not complaining, because the turn around time was excellent compared to if I had gone to the Apple store in mall. To be honest, I would trust the technicians at MacMedics over the Apple store employees, who from my experience tend to revel in the fact that they work at an Apple store and quite frankly a lot of it is just the appeal of being labeled a "genius." I've seen some abhorrent practices go down at an official Apple store. Think twice before you take your investment to one of those stores to be serviced. You're much better off dealing with a local repair shop who is licensed by Apple. I found the staff to be quite knowledgeable and respectful to all those who wish to conduct business with them. Visited the store after making a call to inquire about their ability to handle my specific problem. They were exceptionally friendly, willing to listen, asked the right questions, and were very supportive in diagnosing and helping me understand my options. My phone was ready for pick-up in 45 minutes. They follow strict COVID guidelines so you must wear a mask and remain socially distant during drop-off/ pick-up, but I appreciated this! Apple Store referred me to these good folks 2 years ago when they could not timely and effectively fix my new (one day old) Mac. At that time they also repaired my MacBook Pro who need additional work (10+ years old) this past week. I was so relieved to find this place! No long wait like the Genius Bar--I was able to walk in and they tended to my iPhone 6plus touch disease right away. Everyone worked together to make the entire experience seamless. They sent my phone in for repair/replacement the same day and provided me w a loaner phone. They set up the loaner phone and made sure all of my contacts transferred over. Although the turnaround time was supposed to be 3-5 days, it took longer for factors that were out of their control: took 14 days because apple were low on stock, but macmedics touched base w them and had it expedited. We kept in contact throughout the wait and they updated me on the status of the repair. When I went to pick up my phone, I just walked in, got it, paid, and walked out--maybe 10 minutes. The pricing can't be beat, especially for the service you get. Also, they give you a breakdown of everything that was done to your phone and any correspondence they had w you or apple (the expedited/express request was noted). I went too the genius bar for an emergency, of course because christmas is right around the corner they were PACKED! I was looking online for my next closest Apple Store when I seen a link for MacMedics. I was nervous at first because, well I've been conditioned to only go to Apple, but I was put a ease to see that they work directly with Apple. So the next morning I went before work, the store was easy to find, and easy to access. I went in and was highly impressed with how beautiful and clean the store was, I was greeted by a very friendly staff, they immediately went in to action to solve me dilemma. The staff did everything within their means to help me and ultimately resolved my issue above my own expectations. They fixed the problem in about 20 minutes and gave me all the information about was wrong with the computer and why. I understand that it may not always be that easy, but it was perfect timing. I'm sorry the other reviewer had such a bad experience. However I have NEVER had a bad experience with MacMedics. I have been using them for years and they wre the only people our graphic designer friend would trust near his Mac and his data. They have rescued me (my desktop or laptop) many times. They give wonderful suggestions--and not to just buy a new whatever--and they did a refund for the time my dropped iMac really was beyond saving. I could buy with Educator discount but prefer to instead buy from MacMedics. Unlike making me deal with the mob and the screaming kids beating on computers in the Apple Store, MacMedic staff aren't pretenious enough to have a "Genius Bar". I really don't enjoy feeling like a super dummy having to ask a bored, Gen Y'er, a question only to be answered in some type of geek-speak. I'm happy the Apple Store is in our Mall but delighted when I have MacMedic as a wonderful alternative to going to the Apple Store. MacMedics also talks directly to me, one-on-one. I don't have to perch on a stool to hear a canned training and be frustrated with the diversity of users perched around me. Could be another generational issue for me but as I walk to the rear of the Apple Store it seems to get louder and darker. I always want to take my receipt and rush out for some fresh air. Granted my GPS typically gets me a bit lost in the Millersville office park but I love being able to pull up to the door to drop off or pick up. I know the names of most of the Millersville staff. I had my hard drive replaced at a Mac store in another state and they returned my computer to me without the screws! I needed a warranty repair done on my MacBook and didn't feel like going to the Apple store in Annapolis (I HATE going there for anything but window shopping). They told me my repair was considered "damage" according to Apple (I.e. not covered under warranty), but would try to get it covered because there was clearly no damage. They contacted Apple and got my repair approved, ordered the part, and repaired - ready for pickup less than 24 hours later. Much better than the apple stores in the area. At the apple store I had to make an appointment, show up right on time and wait for my genius to help me. My genius knew how to run tests but that's as far as her expertise reached. I felt rushed and when I asked questions I received blanks stares and then a non-sensical response. At MacMedics a person greets you at the door, helps you, explains everything, and keeps in contact through out the entire repair process. Recently brought in a pair of Powerbeats3. Ear wing had broken off. Noticed some reviews mentioned "rude" customer service at this place. Definitely not my experience. I interacted with three different men while visiting and they were all extremely friendly and personable. Service: I was told that there was a small chance the ear wing wouldn't be covered under warranty, but he (don't remember his name) reassured me he would do his best to figure out the specifics. Projected turn around was about 2-4 days. I got a phone call 2 days later that my earbuds were ready to be picked up. Came in about 3 days later and picked them up, no charge. Covered by warranty. The gentleman at the desk was super nice and had a warm personality. The business is very clean and organized. I walked around to check out their products. Really great deals, especially on their refurbished items. They definitely have an "Apple Store" feel. If I ever need any further assistance with repair or purchasing Apple Products, there's a strong chance I'll be coming here. There is a cat that chills out on a chair by the exit. Very pretty cat. He was asleep both of the times I visited. Wanted to pet him, but didn't want to disturb his slumber, lol. Overall this place is amazing. These folks are pros, and fair on pricing. If you have a serious drive or software issue and go to the Apple store they will probably say they need to wipe your drive and lose EVERYTHING. Mac Medics have advanced diagnostic tools and they can figure out quickly what is the problem. For me it was a software problem. They copied my drive, fixed the issue and reinstalled the data. They have a tiered pricing model and I was in the middle. They were professional, did the work in a timely manner and I was happy with the price and the outcome. My MacBook Pro was crashing on startup after installing the newest OS, so I call Apple and they have no appointments in store for weeks so they tell me that this authorized retailer would do the same as the apple store and made me an appointment here. I took my MacBook in and got a call within about 72 hours stating that my "data on my laptop is corrupt" (their exact words in the voicemail to me) and that they would "backup my data, put a fresh install on and move my data back over for a $249 charge"which I find ridiculous so I tell them I will fix it myself and decline the work. I get my laptop and the print out given to me has no problem listed of whats wrong with my laptop, only the recommendation to back up and reinstall my OS. So I call apple support and low and behold they are appalled that they would tell me my data was corrupt and that was the reason for my laptop failure and then we both discussed how it would have made NO SENSE to remove and reinstall my "corrupted" data back onto a fresh OS if MY DATA was the problem it would just recorrupt the new OS, any who, apple support then proceeds to walk me through fixing my MacBook and reinstalling my OS with no problem with my data. Then he advises me to try ONLY taking it to apple stores in the future and apologized for making me an appointment somewhere that they would take advantage of me for such a simple problem. read more
