Short version: MacHQ put my late 2013 Macbook Pro right, and I am back at it with my More Personal Computer. They found a loose cable & reattached it well within the time frame quoted. No cost past the diagnostic. I am a happy camper. Longer version: This machine, for w/e reasons, seems to be hard on its logic board. In late 2014, it stopped turning on, so I took it to the Genius Bar around the corner at The Grove in West Hollywood. Logic Board, they said, kind of pricy in a couple days, but you got here just before the warranty expires, so come back x number of days and get it. No charge. Later, long after the warranty expired, I started DIYing things inside the machine. Damaged monitor, swapped the HD a couple times to increase storage and create a Boot Camp Windows environment on an external drive and at one point, putting it back together, couldn't put the panel cover back in place comfortably. Took it back to the Genius Bar, this time in Tacoma, WA and they told me, which I'd seen was true, the batteries had blown up big, and needed replacing. I authorized that, which they did for a minimal seeming fee, and then they mentioned the logic board seemed to be on the way out. So when the puter failed to turn on the week of 15 April, I had a pretty good idea what was going on. So I ordered a logic board (&65 on eBay) and then tools to do it with, since mine are in Western Washington State and I am in midtown St. Louis for a while to come. All went well until I started reattaching cables. I got modt of them in place easily, but didn't really get the approach for attaching a couple, fully. I got to the point where I closed it up, thinking I was done, but not so much. Tried a few more times, but did not get it right. Finally, gave up and looked on Yelp for a Mac house. I had driven by MacHQ a day or two before, and when I saw the 4 Star rating, I thought WhyNotFiveAnyPortInAStorm and brought it to them. Good call. Thanks MJ, James, Roberto and Braiden! read more

I was having trouble with charging my iPhone, they very friendly and explained what they would do and explained what damage it could cause, it was taken to the repair area and within 10 minutes they had it fixed, they cleaned the charging port. My iPad had a problem, and I thought I'd run by MacHQ instead of trying to make an appointment at the Apple Store. I waited about 15 minutes for service. The associate was not very engaging, and seemed like he would have rather been anywhere but there. I explained my issue, and he suggested I have the device looked at, and it would take about 30 minutes. I could wait or drop it off. I decided to leave it and come back. It was $30 to have them look at it. A few hours later, I got a text message from a technician telling me the logic board was broken because a third party had added parts to my iPad. I asked what that meant, a virus? Because I bought my iPad directly from Apple and it had never been out of my possession. He told me the screen had been replaced, which was not something an Apple Store or authorized Apple dealer had done. I have NEVER had the screen on my iPad replaced. I picked up my iPad and made an appointment with Apple. After the technician looked at my iPad, they asked if I was close to using all my storage space on my device. I said I had used it all, and it was starting to be a problem. They told me when that happens, you start to, basically, work the machine to death. There was no question about the screen that had never been broken; there was no question about a third party working on my device, nothing of the sort. I don't know what's worse, that Mac HQ called me a liar, that they said a third party worked in my machine when that's not the case, or that they believe what they told me. I can not recommend this business. Do yourself a favor and go to the pros. I lost $30 for no reason and was given a complete bullshit story. read more

I wanted a wireless keyboard and mouse for my used MacBook Air 13." I could not find the keyboard I wanted on Micro Center's website or at their physical store or at the Apple Store. My computer had been giving me issues for about 4 weeks with my battery not charging with my charger. I believed it to be my charger because my brother has a MacBook & I use his charger that charged my computer fine. I decided while being in St. Louis for new job orientation, I'll go to this Authorized Apple Service Provider to diagnose the issue. They were little to no help, the guy that serviced me told me because the charger was working during the time he serviced my computer, there was nothing he could do. I suggested getting a replacement charger under my limited warranty. The employee said that my warranty with the computer had ended but my records showed otherwise. I wonder if I couldn't produce my warranty if he would have serviced me at all. Either way, he didn't let me turn in my old charger for a new one to be shipped to home address or store location, so I left the store since they said they couldn't help me. I return to the hotel & the computer was still on the diagnostic test screen when I opened the computer. He never even got a complete reading on the battery or port. There was an incomplete diagnostic test. The computer charged for 2 hours & stopped. I recorded as proof that the battery was on & off charging quickly without even touching the computer. I have to schedule another appointment at the Apple Store because this provider did not give a thorough service. Avoid this place, just go to the Apple Store. read more

9/2/24 I purchased a refurbished iMac from MacHeadquarters. The computer is great. How could anyone complain about an Apple product, new or otherwise? I think I got a great deal, plus the iMac had a year left on the Apple Care Plan (warranty that even includes accidental breakage), and it can be renewed for $59/yr or $169 for another 3 yrs. However, I'm putting a review on Yelp because my experience with their customer service absolutely sucked. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to sign up for an Apple ID or a PW to even log onto the computer. I spent an hour today on the phone with a very nice guy when I called Apple Care. Even though I was calling about support and Apple Care is about the warranty, he tried to walk me through several things before we both realized that MacHQTs hadn't removed their name as the Administrator, with their PW, etc. that was needed to change me to the Administrator. So, I called MacHQTs, spoke with an employee who walked me through the steps to remove their name. This process required him to give me some sensitive business info. He was apologetic and said that lately this had been happening more times than not. Very frustrating and a waste of my time. This is a training issue so beware. I doubt it's an issue for new computers. When I first went to MacHQTs on 9/2/24 both the owner and another employee were helping me. I returned the next day, 9/2/24 to purchase the computer. Both the owner and the same employee were there. I feel the owner should have reminded the employee to remove their business info from the computer. Only a 3 star rating due to this issue. a product can be awesome, but if their customer service isn't awesome also, there goes their repeat business; albeit, they have a unique business plan. read more

I dropped my phone off here for an authorized Apple repair per my phone contract. I returned 2 hrs later and was told the repair was not able to be done due to Apple saying they wanted to see my phone in store. Not MacHQ fault, refunded my money and out the door. I get in my car and unlock my phone and it opens to my photos. Weird. I know that wasn't how I locked my phone. Even weirder someone had scrolled back a month and has looked at pictures of me breastfeeding my newborn son. I saw red and started shaking. I started my drive home and 3/4 way home I decide to call and ask to speak to the manager, Joe. Joe goes back to the technician when I tell him what I find, and he states "he said he didn't do it". Ok, well someone did. I had to give them my unlock code when I dropped the phone off. I should have wiped the phone but I thought it would be ok and no one would scroll back looking for pictures. Joe follows up with me a few days later and says that the phone was on the technicians desk for 15 minutes but no repair was done. He states they are in a large room and no one took my phone anywhere and he is sure no one looked at my pictures. Again, I am sure someone did because I know that I didn't leave it scrolled randomly back in my photo album. They refuse to accept that someone snooped. I am accepting responsibility for the fact I should have wiped my phone before taking it in, but I thought they would be professional and not look through things. I took my phone to Apple the next week and they repaired it without unlocking it and the techs there were actually shocked someone would dig through a customers phone. Will not recommend MacHQ unless someone wants their private moments looked at by strangers. read more

Before purchasing I was assured by two HQ sales persons that the computer would come with an Apple box, very important since I this computer was a gift. I had my nephew pick up my purchase while I was on the phone with him and the salesperson. Again, "Yes, we have a box." I rang off, confident of my purchase. What a great place to buy or rent a computer. For the past 12 years we have rented Mac computers from them without any glitches. The in-store service is great; the staff are very helpful. This last visit however we decided to switch over to an outright cash purchase to simply cut down the monthly hassle of sending in checks.
