Been wanting to try this place for years. Finally took my wife there for our anniversary dinner. What a mistake. Should have read the clues. Other eateries in the area (Haver De Grace) were packed on a Monday evening. This place had only 1 other couple dining inside. The outdoor dining area was about half full. Anyway, we were extremely disappointed. Food was barely Luke warm. Portions were small. The y should have served on smaller plates. At least that would have made the portions look bigger. Can you imagine paying $40.00 for 2 crab cakes that if you put them together they wouldn't be the size of crab cakes from say Madonna Seafood. And they had filler in them. Nothing special about them, you know, like tasting good. Piece of shell in almost every bite. Awful. The wife got the stuffed flounder. It wasn't even trying to pretend it was warm. The fish would have fit in the palm of my hand. We (well my wife) expressed her dissatisfaction to the server. Told him our concerns. He just kind of laughed it off. I honestly expected a visit from the manager or the cook and some kind of compensation but, nothing. Doesn't deserve even 1 star. This place is now at the top of my list of the worst place I have ever eaten. read more

I would rank this breakfast and service as the worst we experienced in a very long time. Our 4 breakfast took 45 minutes to prepare. The crab Benedict had virtually no crab on it, the regular Benedict arrived cold, 3 eggs over easy with bacon were actually over hard. After requesting the eggs to be replaced with over easy, three of us were finished eating when the eggs were finally replaced, yet still over cooked, but this time, with nearly raw oily bacon. The most unimaginative menu i have ever seen. Every entree; only option was Mashed Potatoes. Nothing else. Just what I want on a 92 degree day! Nothing stood out, same blah, blah menu as when it opened in the 1980's. Specials were anything but special...drink was watered down. My husband and I recently moved to the area and decided to go to lunch at Mcgregors. Very pleased. My husband had the El Diablo burger and I had the chicken salad sandwich. I am a huge fan of chicken salad and this was the best I have ever had! My husband's burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and delicious. Service was okay...they were training new people so it was a bit slow. We didn't mind because we were sitting outside enjoying the beautiful day. We will definitely go back again. read more

Being new to the Cecil county area due to my new job at the Apartments at Charlestown crossing, I was told of a few "must go" establishments, Macgregor's was one of these places. I was not sure what to expect but when I got there, I came to find very simple yet welcoming atmosphere. I ordered a standard order of wings and a salad and I was happy with the overall experience. The food was very affordable and worth everything that I paid. Also, the drinks were very well made, as I ordered a few orange crushes. They were some of the best orange crushes that I have tasted, if I'm being honest. I have have had the opportunity to visit a few restaurants in the Cecil county area so far, I must say that Macgregor's is on the top of my list of local restaurants to frequent. read more

There is also a duck decoy museum down the street if you would like a deeper history lesson into duck decoys. If by chance you'd like to purchase a duck decoy for yourself--which would make a handsome addition to any home decor--there is an antique mall around be the corner. Overall the food was ok. The server was very nice and attentive tho. My honey has a shellfish allergy so options were limited for him. Maryland crab soup was very good. I recommend it. Cod bites was very bland. The sauce was ok. We added ketchup n hot sauce and old bay and made it actually pretty good. I recommend added those condiments. I ordered the cheesesteak which was ok. Kinda tasted like steakum meat. My honey ordered jerk chicken tacos which lacked the spicy jerk seasoning. Will we return? Probably not. We spent $80 and left somewhat satisfied. read more

We were seated right away for lunch, but waited over an hour for any food. Didn't receive bread or chips, even when we asked. Finally, I smelled something awful. It turned out to be the rancid burned chicken on my salad. I tried to push it to the side, but the odor was making me nauseous. My spouse picked up the plate and took it to the waiter. My whole party thought it smelled awful. They did take it off the bill and offered to make something else. I declined. Possible health department issue with that chicken. read more

Evening started out well for my family of four. Poutine was great. However, they were out of some items on the specials menu, and didn't inform us until we asked. Adult drinks were weak and overpriced. Hubby had a buffalo chicken sandwich; it was dry and bland. I had the chicken aquatics, listed as a special; it was oddly flavored and I couldn't finish it. We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and wanted to have a good meal by the water. This place is amazing. You can choose the bar, dining room or deck. I was there with son and we wanted to be outside. The wait staff was very friendly and the food is amazing! Jill was our waitress and she was friendly, answered all our stupid crab questions and took good care of us. We had the Crab Egg Rolls (wow) and I had the Crab Cake dinner. The pricing for the food is astronomical!! I understand that covid and the economy is bad right now but to pay the prices for the quality and amount of food you receive is ridiculous!! The menu needs revamping in a major way! The way I observed management speak to employees is deplorable at best. Most of the wait staff other than the bartenders seem to be in the early teens. The crab dip with pita bread is on the menu for 15.00 dollars but to pay that price for an appetizer is ridiculous. They have a bar area, dining area and outdoor area for seating yet have seen children in the bar area amongst drunk patrons on many occasions. I understand it is a family restaurant however minors need not be in the bar areas. Especially on Friday nights after 8 pm. When I first moved to this area they were one of the best but over the years have gone way down on the list of reputable establishments to go to. Oh my.....I SOOO wanted to love this place. My friends and I stopped in for a bite to eat before the ghost tour started (don't waste your money on the tour, by the way), having been told by several locals that this was THE place to go. When we walked in we quickly noticed that it was very small/cramped inside, and very dark. But we found a seat big enough to accommodate the four of us, and were quickly given menus. But then our server just disappeared. We ended up having to go to the bar to order our drinks, and had to ask for the server to come back. When he finally did show up, it was the bartender! Apparently the management didn't seem to think they'd need any extra help on a Saturday night? Poor guy! This guy was so busy, with everyone sitting at the bar plus all the tables, that it took forever to get our food, and when we did get it we were disappointed to find that it was just average at best. It was another long wait when we were ready to pay and leave...so long in fact that we went to the bar and just paid there. So the poor review isn't because of the poor bartender who had to everything by himself, but for the lousy management that allowed this to happen and for the poor quality of the food. read more

Went for Sunday lunch and got a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The salad came with baguette croutons. The croutons were hard as a rock. I almost broke my tooth trying to bite into one. We informed the waiter, whom told her boss. Her boss said that's how all their croutons are. I attempted to break a crouton in front of the waiter to show how extremely hard they were and she said wow. She then went back to her manager. The manager who never came out to speak to us informed the waiter to take a dollar off my 16$ salad for the hard as a rock croutons. Today was my first visit and it was pretty good. I follow a high protein diet and the crab omelette was tasty and perfect for my diet. My husband had cream of crab and said there were large chunks of meat, but it had a little too much wine in it. My mom was hugely disappointed with her crabcake. It was not jumbo lump, but backfin. The French fries were frivolous. Service was courteous. On Sunday there is a tasty brunch menu. While we didn't partake, there is also make your own Bloody Mary bar. I've never seen that before. I wanted to enjoy this place. The servers were sincerely friendly, but were pretty neglectful. The food was miserable. Worst crab cake ever and the fries were soggy and *almost* warm. The cracker that the crab cake was served on was stale. The crab cake itself tasted as though it was borderline sour and the meat was kind of mealy, not the bulky delicious back fin that you'd hope for. AND it was pretty darn small considering the price. The green beans were the skinniest I've ever seen, but tasty enough I guess. In fact, the green beans and the beer we're probably the only things that didn't disappoint. Terrible, or at least not what I expected. First, because of a private party, the outside eating area was closed (no party ever showed while I was there, which was over two hours). The menu was quite limited, especially due to my general disdain for seafood. I ordered a burger, which was above average but the french fries it came with were undercooked and soggy. My wife had crab cakes, which she commented were okay, but nothing to write home about (she normally raves for crab cakes with large lumps, but none were to be found here). For what we ordered, I feel that I paid $50 for a $30 meal, and couldn't enjoy the nice views of the Susquehanna. Not recommended. This place has a tiny tiny tiny bar. Drink prices are high. There's a covered deck bar, too, with a spectacular view of the water plant next door. It is difficult to get service in each. This place is mediocre at best. Water "view" is not what you'd think of when you see what the view really is . Service was attentive but not "intelligent" nor anticipatory. As an example, usually when one orders lobster, a plastic bib and wipes are provided but not here. My lobster was undercooked. My wife's dish, fried soft-shell crabs were served with a sauce over them (never seen that before) and though we queried the waitress about number and quantity, (there were two), and were assured an adequate portion, the two were really minuscule. Not willing to wait 2 hours for a table at the restaurant next door, we stumbled to MacGregor's on the Fourth of July. We were seated within minutes upon arrival outdoors. The patio (where we dined) had a decent view of the water. We had decent service as the wait staff were attentive to our orders and the food came incredibly fast (less than 10 minute wait)! The crab nachos were tasty as there were actually crab meat in the nachos and not too many chips overtaking the dish. I got the strawberry salad with medium-rare tuna steak, and the dish was refreshing; however, the tuna was lackluster, and I've had better tuna steak than that on my salad. I wouldn't go here again. We sat outside because it was a real nice area. Their deck seating offers a great view... of the parking lot. You can't really see much and I don't think its worth sitting outside. A huge pet peeve of mine is getting beer in plastic cups. Well, that is how they served it. Each beer was $6 too. It kills me to pay $6 bucks for one small plastic cup of beer.... Their menu is incredibly limited. I couldn't even decide so I asked the waiter who suggested the crab cakes. Well, that was a mistake. They were very bland and full of filler. The portions are also very small there, especially for the price. You're basically paying for waterfront eating, without getting the view. One thing I have to say tho, the service was very good. I think if you're in Havre De Grace and you want this type of food, just walk 5 ft behind the building and you can go to Tidewater. I don't want to get into reviewing Tidewater here, but it is worth it for the outside, on the water seating. Much more variety than this place too. read more

Ate here on a Sunday night with another couple. We live close by but this was our first time. The decor is a little dated. There is a front bar and a back restaurant and outside bar with reasonable views of the Susquehanna. We got there and it was quite busy but were seated immediately. The server was attentive and polite. I had the stuffed rockfish with a baked potato and green beans. All but one of us said the food was excellent, the not so good meal being the salad with tuna which wasn't cooked completely. They have a couple of good IPAs on tap In general I think the menu is a little overpriced for what you get. Most if not all entrees were in the $20-$30 range and granted most were seafood or steak but the portions were on the small side. For that I'm giving it a three and not a four. I would go again. On a nice sunny day, the back bar could be fun. read more

This one is tough to review, as the water view is really nice and the service people are very polite. However, it is hard to remember that the food is very much for the tourist crowd - A little over-priced and a little too focused on pushing crab onto people. My wife and I went there and got the crab pretzel (a concoction of cheese, pretzel, and crab meat which is really just an excuse to eat carbs and cheese. It was pretty good, nothing unbelievable. We then shared the crab cake dinner - the cakes were really very good, but the snap peas were cold and the baked potato looked like it was quadruple baked - shriveled and exhausted. If you are in town and looking for typically overpriced touristy cuisine and must have the water view then this is for you. Otherwise, get reservations at the Laurrapin or head down to the Tidewater Grille (similarly overpriced, but delicious). Have tried this place a couple times and have been disappointed both times. Everything is extremely overpriced, the service is terrible, the food portions were small and barely warm. Get a beer because the mixed drinks were bad. Asked server at beginning of the meal that we wanted to split the checks and she said yeah not a problem. We have been going to MacGregors for over 35 years. Our visit last night had so many problems it was a the worst overall restaurant experience we have ever had. We felt so bad for our waiter who was clearly hustling and the victim of bad management and bad cooking. After we arrived we noticed multiple tables unclear and had to wait for them to clear one for us. Other tables were still not clear when we left 90 min later. It took 10min for our waiter to get to us and we later learned that they were clearly understaffed and he was essentially working the our room and the deck by himself. We placed our order for food and drinks at the same time. Our soups arrived before our drinks and we were told there was only one bartender so things were slow. The place was not that busy and should not have been a problem so we are guessing the bartender is slow or inexperienced. When the drinks arrived the ginger ale that was ordered had no syrup in it and was just soda water. Our appetizers (crap soup, bruschetta, and wings) were good. After waiting 60 minutes for our entrees our waiter arrived to tell us they were out of steak for the steak tacos we ordered (it was taco night) We heard another table place an order for a steak after we were told they we out so they obviously decided not to cut up a steak for the tacos. We changed our order to shrimp tacos. Another 20 min went by and when the waiter brought our food we were completely shocked by what we saw. The shrimp tacos were on 4 inch tortillas with canned shrimp and salsa poured on top. They did not have any pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato or any other normal taco fillings. To make the plate look more full they dumped a handful of nacho chips on top. The entire 90 min we were in the restaurant we watched our waiter literally running to try and keep up and a couple bus people trying to support him. We believe there was a blond woman who may have been the manager but she only appeared to speak to the staff but did not appear to be supporting them in any way and definitely did not lift a finger to really help them. read more

We stopped in on our way to Washington DC. The location is great. What a cute town! The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The food was good, prices reasonable. Our waiter was very attentive and was always checking in to make sure we had what we needed. My husband and I both had a burger - very good as were the fries. They served us complimentary muffins and champagne as a part of their brunch. It was a very nice local experience. read more
