There is just no way you can literally miss this small stretch of a park. It's been here forever and now it's even more prettier with the flowers and signs posted up that it is MacDonald Park. Now, you got me craving for some McDonald's Fries and shakes. For anyone driving there are meters lined up right by the park on Queens Blvd. They are 3 hour meters. Short walk from the MTA Subway *E, F, M and R train Forest Hills-71 Avenue Benches all around the park where you can sit and take a break. Park is nicely maintained and relatively clean.

A small oasis located in Forest Hills with ample seating with some green power. It was here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with fellow poet/writer and Yelper, Angel R., we catch up and talked. Park is clean and shadows a mini version look of Central Park's "The Mall" or "Literary Walk" as the walkway path is similar. In stillness at the moment of calm we were able to reinforce our friendship in moral support and sincerity. With a inner calm I was able to achieve inner peace and maintain wholeness to cultivate the way. It contains three circular plazas, plenty of trees and benches. This city park is bounded by Queens Boulevard, Yellowstone Boulevard and 71st Road. It is adjacent to Forest Hills' Post Office and walking distance from E, F, M, R- Forest Hills 71st Continental Avenue subway station. Named after Captain Gerald MacDonald (1882-1929), a World War I soldier and former resident of Forest Hills.

This is a really small park in the Austin St/Continental Ave area. It's really unique in the way it is set up which is basically an island that runs along Queens Blvd. There are chess tables which you will see pretty busy during the day when the weather is nice. There are plenty of other benches to sit and enjoy this small patch of nature.

So I'm starting out by praising the park as a concert venue to make up for my gripes about Central Park and PNC Bank Arts Center. I enjoyed the free De La Soul show here, which had good sound quality and a pleasant setup where you could opt for a close-up viewing of Eye Know and Me Myself and I or just roam around and still hear it. I wish I remembered who had the Yelp reviews that mostly focused on bathrooms, but park regulars know about the bathroom sort of near the LIRR train. It's not as glamorous or as clean as Bryant Park but it's mostly ok and open later than one might expect. The park isn't offering a wilderness facsimile like parts of Prospect Park but you can see birds and there are nice plants. The Unisphere is legendary.

There is always something to do year round. In the winter months, most people decide to venture to the aquatic center/skate rink or the Al Oeter Rec center. The Hell Gate, with its big red steel arch, actually looks damn impressive, especially when the light hits it right around sunset. This park just kind of sits there letting the water run by and wether walking by or just sitting down, its an impressive and calming place with the right person on a midsummer night. You walk along the concrete promenade by the railing and you see all kinds of people. Couples taking pictures, kids yelling, guys sitting on benches thinking about whatever. It's got these giant green lawns where people just lay around. I hear that there's this massive outdoor pool that gets completely jammed in the summer, but I've never been nor do i intend to. It's just grass, trees, a breeze off the water, and trains occasionally rumbling over the bridge high above your head. It kills me how peaceful it can get right under all that heavy machinery. If you have to be around people in Queens, this is probably one of the least depressing places to do it. It really is.

I admit the parking lot, in the midst of the city noise and overflowing rubbish bins, made me a tad hesitant to get out of the car at first, but it gradually dawned on me how the character of the park changed as we walked further away from parking and into the trails lined with mature tall trees. I love nature and appreciate green spaces, so parks like this usually hold a special place. I hope they continue to maintain the park and I hope many more people will cherish its presence.
