I started coming to Cunningham Park in 2021 but never thought to share my experience, why? Well, before I became an Elite, I thought yelping was just about restaurant. So visiting the park today I found it to really chilly and active with a good amount of parkgoers. I had a BBQ here once I had to get here early and they is information on when you need to reserve a spot. I see that they installed EV charging units with solar panels. This is an upgrade because Electric Vehicles weren't able to get a charge before. Believe it or not, this place provides opportunities for kite flyers, if I'm not mistaken, I may have flew one here once. The bathroom were decent but people over packed the trash cans around the track which is very unattractive but hey, it takes Every Kinda People, to make this world go around, Robert Palmer said that, I didn't. Very nice park! Very big, tons of areas for walking, playing, picnics and family time!

We went to Cunningham Park Market on Sunday morning to have a look at the produce and it particular get some food from Trini Treats Queens. Lots of choices in produce including some very unique and hard to find item. The disappointment was with the food. The market opened at 9 and when we approached the Trini Treats Queens ( no signage but it is the only food vendor for food other than an Empanada booth that was clearly marked ). The vendor wasn't approachable at all as she was busy doing things. Another visitor asked her something and got a not so pleasant response. Then she looked at us ( we had been standing there for a minute or two ) and said she is ready to open yet. With her unpleasant response ( from a small business owner ) we walked away. This is by no means reflection on the operation the market, just the individual vendor. We never did get our doubles and we will unliking to come back. read more

I took the Cunningham Loop via the AllTrails app, and it was exactly what I needed--manageable, scenic, and well-marked. The trail itself is a mix of dirt paths and paved sections, with enough tree cover to make it comfortable even on a warmer day. The loop isn't overly strenuous, but it gives you a good walk--perfect for clearing your head or getting in some low-impact cardio. I appreciated how clean and well-maintained everything was, and it felt safe, even solo. You'll pass a mix of joggers, dog walkers, and families, but it never felt crowded. There aren't many elevation changes, so don't expect a hike, but for a refreshing, straightforward walk with nature and fresh air, this loop is a win. read more

This park is a lovely place to spend some quality time outdoors with family or friends. The park is safe for children, and everything is very nice... BUT the bathroom is the dirtiest and most disgusting part; the smell is so unpleasant. The bathroom really needs a deep, deep cleaning. In my personal opinion, it's inhumane to keep a public bathroom in front of the children's area like this; it's disrespectful. read more

Came here for mountain biking and it was an amazing experience. This place has two big loops that are interconnected through a bridge. Each loop offered its different type of adventure and trail style. I got lost along the way because it was quite confusing inside. I was unable to find the path and the signs were confusing I was able to try almost all the blue trails and it was alright. I survived. I did not try the black ones because it was my first time mountain biking with a borrowed bike There is a section inside that is set for tricks, jumps, and freestyle. It looked cool. I would love to try it in the future... Definitely will come back to this place for more fun and adventure read more

I came here because my daughters soccer practice is here and it is a really nice place to have some outdoor fun in Queens. The park is huge with sections for everyone to enjoy. Baseball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, bbq area and more. They had plenty of parking which was great even though it was a busy sunday afternoon. The park is well maintained and they have so many sections but you have to drive to everything its not really that walkable like alley pond. I would def recommend for a family outdoor outing in Queens NY! read more

This is a first time I have BBQ in a public park. I always take my pup to a park and see people having BBQ. I want to know how the feeling is. It is so good and my fog enjoy chicken do much. Lest talk about the park. This park is not so easy to go by public transportation. It is mean mostly local people will be in this park. No subway direct to this park. Yes as a New Yorker no need to have a car because subway is everywhere but to come to Cunningham park you need to take a bus in the order to get here. Anyway, this park is big snd beautiful. Cunningham Park is pretty big. You can come here to play softball, tennis, walk, run, ride your bike, and etc. Plus, there's a couple of grill stations where you can host BBQ party with family or friends but I think you will need a permit tho. There's also public restrooms to use and they have been somewhat clean from my experience. Overall, it's still a nice park and I usually see park staff clean the park grounds quiet often. You can get to Cunningham Park via Q46 or Q76 bus. There's parking lots at the park too. NYRR also hosts their weekly Open Runs on Sundays here at Cunningham Park. Everyone is welcome to come for a walk or run. read more

Busy, busy park! As walkers, my friends and I were constantly dodging runners and bikers on the main path. There's also limited space with shade, especially if you're trying to maintain social distancing. However, there's a ton of space for any type of outdoor activity you might have your heart set on on grass. There are some picnic tables - though they seemed mostly claimed on this late morning weekend day. The shaded areas are very pleasant, and parking was pretty easy. read more

Underwhelming. This park is for people who live near the area and just coming out for fresh air. Not for someone to plan a visit here. Very small room to cover, you can walk the whole park in about ten minutes or less. Just a bunch of families and kids playing sports. Good thing though is you can just chill in the middle of the park alone and free. If you walk a little down , there are bbqs that people are doing. I mean honestly I would not come here. There are a lot of great scenic parks other than this one in Queens. I just came here to cross this off my list. My goal is to go to every notable park in Queens , which is my favorite borough. I have been coming here for years but it was just today I found out that they have an enclosed dog run spot on top of the hill. The spacious park has a numerous good spots for picnicking ( need to call a number for group picnic that needs a BBQ grill) . The large open field is good for any sports related activities. The same field is use occasionally for any musical concerts or any theatrical performances. There are running , walking, jogging and biking lane. Playgrounds for kids are available. The best part of this park as it is known for everyone are their tennis courts. Open to public use and can be reserve for any events. The huge parking lot is a plus in coming here. read more

Great mountain bike trail! Did 8.5 miles ! The mountain bike community is great. The trail is well kept with lots of turns and twists. I tried the berms for the first time and I hope to master them soon. There was a farmers market in the parking lot which was cool. But the trails though!!! read more

The expansive, aesthetically pleasing and multi-functional Cunningham Park sets the standard for what a borough recreational facility should be. Rolling hills and fields for just about any sport you could want to play outdoors -- baseball, soccer, cricket, lacrosse, you name it -- make the pastoral setting one that lingers in your consciousness long after you've walked, biked or driven home. I can't think of a time when I didn't know Cunningham Park, learning its grassy fields as a Little League outfielder, as a less-than-stellar freshman would-be football player, as a partygoer on those high school spring keggers and as a beginning driver taking the state licensing exam. Since then, there has even been the addition of mountain biking trails in the areas off 73rd Avenue and near Francis Lewis Boulevard, as well as the hilly woods closer to Alley Pond Park. Even as there are no mountains to speak of, the trails offer a quick, decent two-wheeled workout. A paved path links Cunningham Park to Alley Pond Park to the east, and runners can enjoy the undisturbed route over the Long Island Expressway toward Kissena Park, easily allowing for a run of eight-plus miles with minimal automotive traffic. I used it often when training for road races. There are plenty of times when you might feel as if you're somewhere other than Queens, such as a far-flung forest. Good stuff, and I hope more people come to know and love the park as I have learned over the past several decades. read more

Huge park! I went there to see the NYC philharmonic perform their summer concert in the park. It was very well organized, the grass may have been a little dry but large amounts of seating. The stage was perfectly set up and it was just a great evening with friends. Parking was not difficult since I arrived early and was coordinated well. I'll be back to explore more of the park if I'm in the area or to see the concert next yr! read more

Living on this side of Queens, the parks here are like food options. If you're in the mood for Italian food, you go to an Italian restaurant... What a horrible analogy... If you're in the mood for a family gathering or want to feel lost and away from civilization, you can try Alley Pond Park. If you're in the mood for a bike ride or some water scenery, you can try Kissena Park. But if you're in the mood for a short walk, a picnic, or open fields, you can try Cunningham Park. I'm speaking about the area along Union Turnpike, which has a parking lot that's accessible via the Turnpike. There's also another lot that's hidden away, accessible via Francis Lewis Boulevard. I like to hide out there when I don't want anyone to know I'm having a large combo from Burger King (damn... I gave away my secret binge spot. Oh well... I have others). There's also a welcome NYPD presence here as well. Technically, Cunningham Park is huge and I don't think I've explored it all. I believe many of the fields along 73rd Avenue are frequented by local schools who got dibs at certain times. It's also an area where the kids go to practice driving and take their DMV tests (I was one of those kids, and I recommend this area because I feel it's easier to drive around here as opposed to other DMV locations). If you want to move on, you could walk, run, or bike through the lengthy Vanderbilt trail that would take you to Alley Pond Park (which is saved for a separate review). Big or small, all NYC parks deserve the five stars on Yelp. They are simply a necessity in this big city of ours and no one should take them for granted. Fortunately, every park is different and each has their own unique characteristics to keep it interesting. Cunningham Park is no exception. read more

The best part of summers in New York City are all the free productions that goes on in its parks. The best known and most popular are probably Shakespeare in the (Central) Park and movies in Bryant Park but occasionally, you'll see some equally incredible shows in the parks throughout all the boroughs. Cunningham Park is one such park, located in my home borough of Queens where on one magical summer night, I'd be bold enough to say that we're probably the coolest borough out of the 5. The New York Philharmonic throws a concert here every year, drawing thousands of spectators for a beautiful evening of music and fireworks. This year was the 50th annual event and they played songs from the West SIde Story. It was my first time so I wasn't as prepared but for next year, these are the things I will not forget to bring with me: A mat - the wet grass underneath soaked through our blanket A blanket to put over the mat - comfort is just as practical sometimes A picnic - some fruit, some wine, some cheeses, some sandwiches, some sweets and water Electric candles - it get's a little dark when the sun goes down Bug repellent - beware of the mosquitoes A sweater - it got a little cold when the sun went down A plastic bag - to throw or trash out and keep the park as pristine as when we first arrived. I suggest you carpool and arrive at least an hour before showtime, especially if you're coming with a group because parking is hard to find, and it's a first come first serve system where it's up to you to grab your patch of land as close to the stage as possible. read more

So....we have a three year old who just LOVES trucks and diggers, and we've been coming here during the pandemic to keep him entertained. Inside the park there is an area where the NYC Parks department keeps their equipment. Depending on what day you come, you might see front loaders loading mulch onto trucks, or street sweepers emptying their refuse. The best show comes after a big storm. There are two big contraptions called tub grinders that take fallen trees and grind them into mulch. This is all fantastic entertainment for our son. He can watch it all day. If your kid loves diggers and trucks, come here and watch them be transfixed for a morning read more

Surprisingly, this 358 acre park is right in my own backyard! I thoroughly enjoy riding my bike here. The Vanderbuilt Motor Parkway is really for bicycles and runners. Don't let the name with Motor in it fool you. They also have mountain biking with the North Woods Mountain Biking Trail that has many easy sections for me. Thank you Andrew for ever getting me such a great bike. It goes great on roads and fairs well enough on some of the smoother 'mountain' trails through this gorgeous park. With eyes I can see the more challenging trails. With pedals, I stayed where I remain injury free. They have Tennis courts and baseball diamonds. There are multiple places with Restrooms and cook out areas. Places for dogs and places not for dogs. It is so surprising to be enjoying so much green right next to three major highways: the LIE, Clearview and the GCP! read more

I use to walk to this park weekly but since I moved some years ago, my visits are far less frequent. This park is one of my favorites for the following reasons: proximity, parking, track, grill s and the people. I love it even more now because of the exercise stations along the track route AND let's not forget the Farmers Market on Sunday; (check out my pics). The vegetables are very fresh. Simply to say it has a lot of perks. For joggers, baseball players, to bbq's, to concerts even. I consider this actually one of the safest parks in Queens. Very family oriented. Definitely a great place to bring your kids and even friends to hangout. As the weather gets warmer. It will get crowded. Make sure to book your spots for future BBQ's or league games if needed. A beautiful park hosting The NY Philharmonic concerts in the park. My only complaint are the neighbors who hog the 2 parking spots with their single car. Come on people, are you that mean spirited, so that another car cant park in front of your house. I drove for an hour and saw at least 50 cars that hogged both spots. A spacious park in Queens, perched near the Grand Central Parkway and the Clearview Expressway and easily accessible via Francis Lewis Blvd and/or Union Turnpike. It features an ample field area to run around, throw a Frisbee, fly a kite, play volleyball or futbol/soccer, or just lay out (if you are not afraid of all the activity around you and getting stepped on as a result). There are around a handful of backstops and associated benches for those who want to play softball or baseball. There is a nice oval track for those who want to run/jog/walk and/or want to have their smaller children ride their bikes or razor scooters and such. Toward the back, there are many picnic benches and areas to grill out. If those files up, you can bring your own portable tables, chairs, tents, and awning to create your own little setup. There is also a playground for little kids to play in. There are several tennis courts and even an area to play bocce ball. You can even sit around and play chess or just people watch if that's your thing. You will encounter people of all varieties and ages here. The park is generally well maintained. Cunningham won't make forget Central Park but it's pretty nice (and large) for Queens. In the summertime, the parking lot is closed off for aepund a couple of weeks when the Big Apple Circus arrives. That does pose a little issue with parking but a little walk will lead you to ample parking in the adjacent neighborhood. You will often find an ice cream truck present should you and your kiddos crave a cool and sweet treat. Summers also feature free movie nights on a portable and inflatable screen. The best part about Cunningham is that it offers all that and is pretty close to home for me! read more

I wish I could write a review on the mountain biking trails alone. This place is easily one of the best xc mountain biking trails that I've ever seen. They have everything from logs, small bridges, 2-3 pump tracks, and multiple levels of difficulties. I remember when this track first opened up (illegally), and now that its an official feature of the park, this place has become even better maintained. Love this park! The grass is green and it's open air track is great if you want to get out and go for a run. The premises is clean and spacious with tons of amenities. They have tennis courts, baseball fields, and newly added gym equipment located around the open track! How great is that! This park has been a staple in the community for as long as I can remember. It's ginormous & at times can be overwhelming. There's so much land. It puts a smile on my face whether I'm passing by, enjoying the circus or going for a walk. This park brings out the best in people. There's never any drama, ratchetness or people disturbing you. I love this park because of the way it makes me feel. My mood is always uplifted and positive. This is a great place to bring a date, children, family etc. It's an awesome place to sightsee, grill up some chops or even to have a cute picnic. I've been to cunningham on many different occassions. I'll tell you about it. When I was younger, I'd come here with my aunt , uncle, and cousins. And we'd go around the track. Bikes, scooters, people walking, roller skates. You'll see people on everything here. A lot of families roaming around. The play ground area is nice. Swings, slides, all that good stuff. Kept very clean and I've never spotted any creeps hanging around. I've also never spotted any loser adults cursing and carrying on in the playground area, which is pretty important to me. Now I've also been here for the mixiest event of the summer. This huge bbq where all the youngings come out with the weed and four lokos and nut crackers. There is food. Music. And all your exes right there on display. All of queens and some of Brooklyn in one park. Be aware and be cautious. A lot of people like to play tough guy/girl at these events. The police are there on call and usually fireworks or a fight with be what breaks it all up. Fun..but don't stick around. Could get dangerous. Other than that, as I said earlier, Cunningham is nice and clean and usually pretty chill. Definitely not too slimey on a regular park day. read more

I love Cunningham park. It's a few blocks away from my house and it's the perfect size. My parents have thrown so many of my birthday parties here when I was a kid. No one bothers you here and there is so much going on around you. It's perfect for people watching. This is my prime place to come for a jog, lots of little hills. A Great Mountain Bike Park, near the the city....... Pump Tracks, Beginner, Intermediate and Technical Advanced Trails. Really pretty during the fall. It is close to the city, worth the trouble to get out there. A lot of fun and the trails can be challenging even if you are really good. Me, not that good, I've crashed quite a few times. I'm sporting a rigid, Indy Fab. Say HI, if you see me. Really well maintained by the folks from CLIMB (Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists.) They made/maintain the trails, hauled the trash (Think, Needles, Condoms, Tires, Cars, Bottles, Homeless, Hookers....) and Politicked the permits. Business hours are 24/7, it never closes. You can literally go at 3am in the morning to work out. Membership prices are unbelievable: sign up for free, monthly charges are waived, and cancel whenever you want, no strings attached. There's extra goodies like free concerts in the summer, movie nights, and shows. I don't know why I was paying $15 a month at 24hr fitness. This park is wonderful, and quite large and varied. There are plenty of spacious fields to play on, and for picnics. Occasionally there are concerts or maybe a play that is put on in the park. Another section of the park is very wooded great for a quiet walk. Another part has a very well maintained bike path, that I heard was illegal but they actually made it an official feature of the park so good on the city for that. Its very easy to get to the park, the Grand Central Parkway, the Clearview Expressway, Union Turnpike, and Francis Lewis Blvd., all major thoroughfares pass by the park (just hop on and zoom straight over). There's no restrictions on the paved paths, so if you wan to walk your dog, bike, roller skate, its all good. read more
