Nice little oasis in Elmhurst NY. While it was raining the day I visited there were plenty of trees, grass and places to picnic. There also was plenty of play structures for the kiddos. A nice family friendly park in Elmhurst that is well maintained by the city .Plenty of space to roam along the trail path , plenty of grass area to sit and relax , playground section for the kids and the moron adult who was hogging the slide , plenty of benches along the whole area of the park and it's very clean and safe . Came with a friend who wanted to see his girl sing with her group in the performing area which has free events mostly on the weekends and the locals seem to enjoy the shows as the couple next to me are regular park visitors and love to talk and talk while I was trying to listen to the music .overall a nice park in Elmhurst for the locals and non locals like me . read more

Elmhurst Park is a great addition to the neighborhood that previously was deprived of a nice park. The closest park to this area is Frontera Park on the other side of the Long Island Expressway. Frontera Park is noisy and dirty because it is so close to the traffic. The landscape design of their park was very creative with the use of a hill to give height and to hide the sight and noise of the Long Island Expressway. The hill is also perfect during winter snow conditions. The playgrounds are also very creative with many options for children. A non-standard unique restroom design (cost #1 million!) is kept clean. There are many quiet shandy area all around the park for people to relax. Don't forget to read about the history of this spot where once lived two giant natural gas storage tanks painted red and white. When they were decommissioned there were rumors of a Walmart on this spot! read more

City planners took a small to medium sized space and really developed it into an oasis from nearby Queens. A loop of the park can be walked in under 10 minutes by most, but it can make a difference in your day. read more

Been here twice and this area was where the Elmhurst Gas Tanks. Once a huge landmark with Radio Traffic Reporting. The park is clean and beautiful. Best kept secret for now. Shhh! Do not tell anyone. There are several stations for adult fitness with machines for you to exercise out in public. Children's Play area lots of activities for kids to run around and get fit. Bathroom are clean. Remember to pick up after your dog/pooch and throw out garbage in the waste basket which is located all over the park. read more

The aesthetics of this park is still appealing. Park renovation is always a necessity for the neighborhood. Since the park is a bit on the smaller side, it does get crowded. The community benefits and it's being used the way it's intended. The million dollar bathroom can be maintained a bit better, but such as life. All good things come to an end. read more

A fairly new addition to the neighborhood. Elmhurst park is a great pick over Frontera Park or Maurice Park to bring the kids to. Not a huge park but spacious enough. A nice playground with a water sprinkler thingy for the summer. A path for jogging. Area to play soccer. Some spots to sit or lay a picnic down. And of course this is the home of the million dollar public restroom. Sit on one of the benches and watch the kids as they run around, slide down or go up the jungle bar and relax. read more

Still undergoing it's beatification, Elmhurst Park (formerly, almost-named, Gas Tank Park), is really shaping up to be a serene, little jewel of a place. It's newness translates to vibrancy, and as you walk through the iron-clad gates, Spring smiles widely upon you, which makes you want to lay stretched out onto a patch of green grass atop its lush hill. This may sound grossly romanticized, but the description is actually well-deserved. The nothingness that was this area for many years, has been transformed to a small oasis for people to enjoy. Though this park is small, it impresses no less. I've come here a handful of times with the bf, just for a leisurely stroll, and each time has been delightful, even if it is geared more towards families. In fact, there's a park ranger who stands guard by the children's play area, and will ban you from stepping anywhere close to that section, if you aren't a parent. (Ha, take that would-be pedos!) That said, the park is welcoming to all (except for the pedophiles, of course). I've thought of organizing a picnic here with friends in the summertime to enjoy this park with them. I absolutely love that the NYC Parks Department took hold of this space and made it something very special. read more

The area really needed this park and I'm glad it's here. Sure it's super small and is sandwiched between all the exhaust fumes of the LIE and Grand Avenue, but it's a nice patch of green in an otherwise congested area. I mainly consider it a park for kids, as there's really only the playground and a field that's good for soccer. I don't come here once school is out or on weekends for that reason because it's full to the brim with families, but if you can get here before or after the kids it's a nice little oasis of green space with some hills and benches to relax on. read more

Not my cup of tea, but I can see the allure of it for others. And....if I just wanted to do a very, VERY brief stroll here, then this isn't a bad spot. Also, super close to me by foot. Yet....even that isn't enough to make me come here regularly. It's a popular location if you have kids. All parks are usually great open spaces, kid and family friendly, but this really gears things to little kids, with their playground, swings, and sprinkler/water area. I've seen a fair amount of people walking their dogs. A small path that winds around the park is your walking/biking trail. There isn't really more than one actual full loop. Maybe different access points, but one main "trail" . A fair amount of green space to sit down for a picnic, but not open or spread out enough either so you may feel awkward if people are walking on by as you're trying to eat or something. Never that isolated private feeling you could get in more spacious parks. But again, come here for its strengths, not for its weaknesses. A small soccer/astro-turf field for soccer -- or I've seen kids/teens play soccer there. I imagine it making a great space to do jump roping, plyometric moves due to the softer surface. Average sized hill to climb/run up, or lounge at the very top with friends. I have to say there are plenty of benches here, considering it's a small park. Some are shaded under trees and is very enjoyable when it's warm/hot and you can enjoy a cool breeze. The benches in the shade are almost sectioned off to one side of the park, as if it was intended to be quieter and more peaceful. The ones in the sun are along the walking/jogging path. The bathroom looks nice from the outside -- never been inside, but when I do, I will update this review. Also, for the kiddies and adults, an ice cream truck is almost always parked outside the front entrance, haha. So be prepared to stop for a treat! read more

Constructed on land where a bunch of huge gas tanks once stood, Elmhurst Park is a destination greenspace and the playscape found within the encompassing parkland earns the epic title with flying colors. You name it, this playground has got it: lots of swings for big kids, toddlers and special needs kids alike, a slide built into a stone hardscape, a toddler water sprinkler set apart from the big kid sprinkler (huge plus), shaded benches for parents to chill on, an innovative play zone with stationary bicycles and "engine room" sound units for communication games. There's lots of shaded patches of grass in the surrounding parkland to throw down a blanket on, an astroturf field for sports, and a brand new relief facility within easy access. Only downside: it's a milelong walk from the nearest subway stop. Extra bonus: there's a big hill in the center of the park for wintertime sledding. read more

This park has great potential but it's the bummy ass people who ruin in it for everybody. There's a lot of elderly Chinese folks who come to this park which isn't the problem. The problem is when the old folks are standing in the middle of the playground area doing their Asian workout, stretching and swinging their arms around. And on top of that you gotta deal with them spitting all over the place or blowing their snot with their bare hands. Or better yet, public urination when there is a public restroom right behind the playground! This park is a jungle. Kids are unsupervised. They're careless and wreckless when riding their bicycles and scooters through the play area. There's been many times where they came so close to knocking my 2 year old over which could of caused a lot of damage and pain to both parties. My other big issue with this park are the mosquitoes. My goodness. They're all over the place. This playground needs to be sprayed down! This park has been a great addition to the neighborhood but it's the low class bums who really ruin it. Poor park design in some areas. The playground area should be gated and closed off. The paths can be wider for walkers to be safe. A bike lane would work wonders for this park but realistically I don't think anyone would follow the rules. The kids and adults in this park all seem relatively dumb. Nobody is friendly, all you can hear are screaming Chinese parents. I can't tell if they yelling at their children or if that's the way they talk. My son dropped his hat and another parent claimed it as theirs and left it on her kids stroller without notifying me that my son dropped his hat. I was walking around the park and passed her several times searching for his hat until my friend realized the hat is in someone's stroller. Luckily I took photos of my son and few minutes earlier with his hat on. This lady was swearing this hat belonged to her. The hat doesn't even fit her kid. Verdict - Nobody speaks English in this park. NOBODY read more

I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life. I've never been a fan of the other parks. I love this new park. This is one of the few parks that are kept clean and is well maintained. As soon as the the weather is nice I bring my baby out for a stroll. This park is special but it has lots of benches, swings, nice playground & small soccer field. This is probably the best park in the city. The kids play area is like a free amusement park. There is also a hill that would be awesome to slide down in the winter. I love it!!!!!!! Until the preteens come. Your kids can enjoy free play, a choice between traditional slides and swings or exercise equipment. There are also some newly added health fitness stations for 12 and up. A wonderful trail for walks or bike riding and plenty grass for picnics. This park is HORRENDOUS for the locals, I get that elderly Chinese want to exercise, but the past 11 months the wack ass loud flute music has been playing too God damn loud, ask them to lower the music and the next morning it will be too loud, they spit on the concrete floor and take over the playground in the morning. The annoying ass music starts at 7:30 in the morning.. and can be heard from almost 2 blocks away I mean jesus christ the music is so damn loud every morning. And they never miss a day too, they are there every. Single. Morning... where are the park workers? Why are there so many loud ass speakers in a park where the signs by both entrances say NO SPEAKERS??? I get they cant read English but the signs have pictures and are also in Chinese so I dont wanna hear no wack ass excuses that they always give. Beautiful, clean park that was built on the site of the old Elmhurst Gas tanks. There's slides, swings, & sprinklers. The kids play area is amazing. But what my sons liked the best was riding on 1 of the 3 stationary bikes that lights up when you pedal! On the bike itself there's a display that lights up like you're on a race course. My sons are still small so I was the one doing all the pedaling, but this would be good for a parent of small kids who wants to get a quick workout in while having fun. read more

PARENTS, read this. This is a beautiful park but there is a BIG FLAW. The rubber mat on the playground has NO texture and it's VERY SLIPPERY. There is a small water play area for toddlers/preschoolers in the playground and this is dangerous. I've seen many toddler and older kids fall as they step in and out of the mat and the concrete. I see many kids wearing flip flops or go barefoot not knowing how SLIPPERY THE MAT is. Because the water sprinkler is within the enclosed toddler playground, the mat will become extremely slippery. The water will get everywhere in the summer, including the slides and even if your child doesn't go into the water, they will fall on the water trails left by other kids. Most dangerous part is when they walk in and out of the concrete and the mat area. Many kids will fall backwards, head first, into the concrete, banana peel style. These are not your regular bumps and scrapes fall, these are stitches requiring, crack skin open falls. Please have your kids wear GOOD GRIPPY shoes. Sit close to the water area and pay attention to your kids. Many parents are sitting too far away to see how their kid has fallen. I urge parents to speak to the maintenance dept of the park and talk to them about getting the mat replaced. They really should. read more

Probably the most well maintained, clean park in queens. Perfect for picnic, a stroll, relax while reading a book, and jogging. Theres a soccer field in the back. Absolutely gorgeous on summer night, theres a hill lie down there at night really awesome. Its very quiet. Despite that its next to the high way! Sometimes I go their in the evening and just sit on the bench enjoying a cool beverage along with the fresh air.. Having grown up here, I totally remember those awful gas tanks. Talk about an eyesore :/ I visited this new park today with my kids and was in awe by the transformation!! The playground is amazing, complete with sprinklers, climbing apparatus, slides, more climbing thingies... My 6 year old and 4 year old had a BALL!!!! I live in Forest Hills, but I was intrigued when this park kept popping up on those "best NYC playgrounds" list. So I popped my 20-month-old in the jogging stroller and ran on over. It's in a totally weird location, but it felt like a complete oasis off the LIE. Beautiful rolling grassy hills, and a great playground setup. The play structures are a little more original than most pre-fab playgrounds, and there's plenty to climb, spin, swing, slide, push, pull, etc. Bonus points for the group of people doing tai chi that my son was totally fascinated by. read more

Its a good park for picnics, jogging, kite flying, football/soccer and kids however it does NOT have basketball courts.

Great place. immaculately taken care of and so relaxing. Wish there were some vendors there, at least on the weekend.
