A true 5 star experience at MacDonald Hardwoods. After deciding to remodel with hardwood (about 1200 sq ft and DIY installation) we went shopping. We went to the normal places. We read all the reviews. We were becoming very afraid. I had done business here some time ago (15 years?) and had bought some fabulous product that was also very expensive. We were very budget conscious on this project and I was skeptical that they could put us into something that fit our budget. But we had to visit just to make sure. What we found was by far the most appealing floor we had seen (very nice sized examples of various products on their showroom floor) at a price that rivaled the other crap (can I say that on yelp?) at the liquidator place. The difference when you walk into MacDonald Hardwood is night and day. The people you work with are true professionals - they know what they are talking about and they deliver on everything they promise. We are super happy with the quality of the product we purchased (superior natural brushed oak) - we bought a total of 54 boxes and I rejected 3 pieces out of the whole lot - far less than 10% waste, and it is stunningly beautiful, quality wood. Delivery was great and on time to the minute - even with bad weather and having to come up I-70 to deliver to me near Idaho Springs. Kudos to MacDonald Hardwood - I have never regretted going though your doors and I am so glad we did this time as well. I give this business my highest recommendation. I have never been treated so poorly as a consumer in my life. We walked in at 10:30 on a Saturday morning. No cars in the lot, no other customers in the store. Steve was rude, condescending and literally glared at us while we asked questions. We walked in a said 'we have 800 square feet of space for a main floor and we're referred to you and would love some guidance'. He asked if we wanted solid or engineered and when we said solid, he pointed to a few rows. We selected a few and he said NO that only comes in engineered. We asked him for help, said we liked light and were gravitating to hickory. He threw out some numbers and told us we were looking at the wrong things. He was just staring at us. Instead of helping. When we asked for help several ways. We said several times we were hoping for some guidance. When we asked questions he mocked us and rolled his eyes. Great product and service! I reached out to MacDonald after not liking the Chinese based products and customer reviews, previous product lawsuits, etc.. we were seeing for lumber liquidators. We met with Steve at their Denver shop, he gave us a good variety of options and price points to choose from. We ended up choosing an Ash hardwood, it had a dark tone nice finish and was coming out of a smaller Mill in Canada. The install was seamless, our installer Troy was on time, very professional, knowledgeable and got the job done as promised. We spent hours, no - days, of our lives looking for new hardwood for our home. We found affordable styles we liked at the bulk floor & tile store and then learned that the wood type matters in Colorado's dry climate. We went to all of the designer, to-the-trade, floor stores but weren't about to spend that kind of money. I had heard an ad on the radio for MacDonald so I called down on a Saturday morning. I told the person on the phone - Tom Kelley - what I was looking for and what I was hoping to spend. He told me about this great deal they currently had on a bulk purchase of solid hickory, 5" wide, saddle brown wood planks. I was 7-months pregnant and elated. I went down to have a look for myself - because my husband works Saturdays - and by that afternoon had purchased 1000 sq. ft. of American Hickory from Kentucky and had a date set for my husband to bring a truck. It's been over a year, one baby, and a full home remodel later and I still think about how simple and seamless this specific shopping experience was. Everything about my experience at McDonald Hardwoods was great. No pressure in the showroom and Jeff took considerable time to explain all of my options and give me a couple of quotes the same day. It took a couple of months to get on the install schedule, but once I moved past that disappointment, everything went like clockwork. Jeff came out to do the final measure and install estimate, and it came out slightly below the initial estimate, which was very refreshing. We hired MacDonald Hardwoods to install 1600 feet of the new light colored hardwood floors in our home. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! Only one of the two people who were suppose put in the floor showed up on the first two days. No roll-off showed up to put the old wood into. The old hardwood was stacked against the walls in the rooms that marked and chipped the paint in all the rooms they worked in. Despite me telling Damien that I didn't want them cutting wood in the alcove of my front door, Enrique did just that and about half of the sawdust went in the home. I asked the two workers not to leave the garage doors open because of my furniture was in there and they left them open for three days until I got upset about that. Their work was very erratic and some days they only worked a few hours. The workers left the lights in our home every night and on two nights left the fan in the hallway bathroom running all night. The nail gun they used on my floors was so powerful that it knocked wood pieces off the subfloor and left my basement floor with a half inch of chipped wood on my basement floor, clothes, office, workout area, etc. So, I had another1600 feet of flooring to clean as well as everything that was in the basement. The work team had eight workdays to finish the job and the got so far behind with their work that they didn't finish the job unitil 7:20PM of the eighth day. They never cleaned up their work area! The newly installed floors were in terrible condition, i.e., dirt, sawdust, ground in dirt from outside, caulking, and additional problems with the installation of the floor. We spent the next four days cleaning the floors. The alcove on my front door area was covered in 2-3 inches of sawdust. I had to take a water hose twice to the walls in the alcove to get all the sawdust off the walls. I am still finding wood chips and pieces of flooring in the evergreens in my front yard, landscaping, and side yard. Last week we had the airducts in the home cleaned and they found chunks of the old flooring in the ducts along with a lot of sawdust! Damien and Enrique left my home a TOTAL DISASTER and we didn't appreciate it! This flooring project started on May 9th, 2022. Scott brought in two other sub-contractors to correct the mistakes made by Damien and Enrique. The last contractor who did a great job, finished on August 8, 2022. Scott had told me originally that he would send his best team to do my job! We have had new floors put in three other homes and have NEVER experienced anything like this! THE INSTALLATION OF OUR HARDWORD FLOOR WAS A TOTAL DISASTER AND WE WOULD NEVER USE MCDONALD HARDWOODS AGAIN. THIS IS ALL ON YOU SCOTT! read more

Although we haven't had the work done yet, we are looking into white oak flooring for our family room. I spoke with multiple companies but it was Tom at MacDonald Hardwood flooring that was the most knowledgeable about not only the oak flooring but the particular difficulty hardwood has in the Denver dry climate. Prices on a single large room are reasonable and again, this was the best company in terms of explaining the product, the prices and what to expect for installation. I will report back when we start the install, but if you need someone to explain the ins-and-outs of hardwood flooring, MacDonald is a great start. Four stars read more

I'm a firm believer in recommendations and reviews and mine came from a local disc jockey (totally reliable). I had been debating hardwood floors for years and finally felt it was time to replace my "builder basic" carpet and get my first floor finished to match my kitchen. I went to the showroom with sample in hand and it was smooth sailing from there. I get used to being "talked down to" because I'm a woman but Tom treated me with utmost respect. I explained what I wanted and was never persuaded otherwise. The installation was finished today and Scott did a fabulous job working with the issues as they arose (Newtown Builders obviously doesn't know flooring). I recently realized how wonderful MacDonald Hardwoods is and decided that they warrant a raving review. I cannot tell you who specifically to thank or can I commend a specific person, however I can tell you that this company provides a stellar product. Over 21 years ago I could no longer handle the carpet that the previous owner had placed in the powder room bathroom at my home (especially because I had a 5 year old and a 38 year little boy (smile) plus I was nesting and about to deliver my third child. I just could not take it another minute. As soon as I delivered my bouncing baby girl I attended a DIY class at MacDonald Hardwood and with my VHS (demo) in one hand and a rubber mallet in the other I was set. I convinced my husband (who had not attended the class) that we could do this. Day 1 after he got home from work we found that he had ruptured a disc and he was out of commission. I laid 550 square feet of pre-finished hardwood on my own with a help here and there from my girlfriend and my father-in-law while caring for my pained husband, two toddlers, and newborn. I could not have done it without a few phone calls to the store to stay on track with my questions. Over 21+ years later that floor was beat up after 3 kids and numerous dogs and weather. We just had it refinished and it looks amazing. The quality is astounding and I was told that with several more refinishes in its life this floor will be around for another 80-100 years and will far outlive me. i went to a lot of different places before choosing Macdonald. They were so knowledgeable about the different species of wood that other places didn't bother to tell me about. They have very large samples, not just a tiny piece, for you to take home and make sure that is the color that you want, no charge. After talking to them about doing our own install, they convinced us that we could do it. They were right. They taught us how to do it and we were able to install it in a couple of days. It was some work, but so worth it!!! I would do it again. i would go back here again, and will in the future. Also, they rent the nail guns for much cheaper than the big box stores. read more

We decided to redo a staircase to our basement of a 1920's classic Congress Park Bungalow. Tom on the Sales side and Christopher on install. These guys went 110% beyond meeting every expectation. Scheduling an installation was likely going to be problematic as every other vendor we spoke to, due to recent flooding and the fact that we were nearing the holidays, was booking out well into Jan. Tom pulled a few strings as was able to schedule our job within less than 2wks and before Thanksgiving! The final job came in below the estimate and we even had extra unused materials that were quickly credited back on our final invoice! Tom went out of the way to explain the material returns and expenditures that we involved. With our installer, Christopher, we had some initial questions about the depth of each stair tread. Each step was originally very inconsistent in size (depth, height and width) and we could have easily lost tread depth on what was already a very precarious staircase. Christopher had already complete two of the thirteen steps when we realized there was a potential disaster in the works. After a thorough discussion regarding alternatives, Christopher agreed to pull out the two steps that were already completed and redo them with a more appropriate tread depth. No charge! This worked out great all around as the stair riser was also redone with a far more beautiful look than we expected. Each and every step required custom cuts for the width and to work around the original 1920s stairs. The fit and finish was excellent! There were a total of four thresholds installed transitioning into other rooms. One for an exterior doorway and three others for existing rooms, each with a different flooring material to the adjacent rooms (bathroom, storage area, living room). The threshold work was excellent! Sturdy, secure and provides and great looking, functional transition to each room. The gap under the exterior door I thought would be especially difficult and the original gap was varying heights. Christopher matched it perfectly so much so that there is now no air leakage at all! I can not say enough good things about MacDonald's professionalism, craftsmanship, honesty, pricing and ease to work with. All in all a VERY pleasurable experience! Thanks guys! We went to the showroom and got 3 samples that we got to take home to help decide since we couldn't quite make up our mind because of all the choices available. Once we decided on the flooring we wanted to purchase Tom came out and measured everything, explained the process and all of our options and scheduled to have Ben install the floors for us. We purchased flooring from MacDonald's Hardwoods when we remodeled a new home we purchased. We went with MacDonald's because we thought they would have superior products and service plus we wanted to buy local. Wow were we wrong. The product that was recommended to us, and we purchased, is of inferior quality. The problem is that the finish is not durable, it scratches very easily. And we are very careful with the floor, we do not allow our dog in the home or where shoes in the home. The floor scratches so easily that we have to tell everyone that enters to be super careful. And the worse part is their service or lack thereof. When we told them about this...they basically couldn't care less. First they ignored our calls, then they finally came out to take pics but did nothing with them, then we got the BBB involved they took pics again and then lied and said that it was due to our dog. Shame. Beware of this company...poor products and even worse customer support was our experience. read more
