I really did not like the food at all. Seems like everything was pulled from a freezer. The chicken wings were totally soggy, breaded and soft and gross. They were out of two things we tried to order and our well done burger was burnt. The crinkle fries were frozen fries and we were there for almost two hours on an early Sunday afternoon. Management was so rude and just made the situation much worse than it started out. First visit, I order a hot pastrami on rye, an old favorite of mine. After the second bite I about lost it. The meat or should I say fat and gristle were disgusting. Needless to say I won't spend any more of my dinero here. When I told the waiter about it he said he's heard it before...... So why are they serving crap when they've been told. Saw this online so we gave it a try. When we walked in a few employees looked at us but did not seem interested in seating us. When they took us to a table we had to wait for it to be cleaned off. We just ordered appetizers because with my shellfish allergy I did not trust anything else on the menu. The salsa for the quesadilla was straight from a bottle. The service was poor at best. Macado's is one of my favorite restaurants ever. I used to go to this location every Friday night when I was in high school and this is the one that I always enjoy going to. Well I went tonight around 7:45p and they were semi busy. It always looks like they are packed by the looks of the parking lot but when we got inside it wasn't busy at all. We were able to get a booth which our family of 4 prefer. We had a really nice waitress who got our order and all seemed great. The waitress came 2x to let us know the food was coming soon and apologized. My daughter grew tired of coloring and that's when we looked at the clock and saw it was 8:35. The waitress came back and said that the manager misread the ticket, my husband and I ordered the Johnny D which comes as grilled chicken, which I got and he wanted breaded chicken. She said that they didn't enter his as breaded and that's what was taking so long but brought out my daughters kids meal and fries which we wanted with the meal. About 10 minutes later still didn't have our food and we asked another waiter to get our waitress. Then our food popped around the corner. My husband asked for the check and 3 boxes because we had been waiting so long and the manager didn't even come about the misunderstanding. The waiter apologized and said they were busy and the fryers were down, which isn't what we were told. A man came to the table who didn't seem to be the manager. He was dressed more like the chef and didn't even provide his name. My husband told him that we were only paying for our daughters kids meal and the fries we asked to have with our meal and leaving the food because it was ridiculous to have to wait that long. He didn't even apologize he just said ok and took the to go boxes and left the table. The waitress apologized again and we told her it wasn't on her, we were just paying for the food we did get and he took the rest. read more

I'm kinda torn about this review... The first time we came on a Tuesday night we asked to sit in a booth with an electrical outlet so we could charge AND use our tablets (they do have a charging station ). We were seated in the front room and we had a great woman server. My daughter had a burger that was big, juicy and covered the large bun. I had a Philly cheesesteak that was also really good and my fries were crispy, browned, the way I liked them! Everything was exactly as ordered and the server split our shake, as ordered, with 2 glasses. Perfect...I love this place!! We came back 2 more times on the weekend with a guy server ( same one both times) and the burger was dry, did not cover the bun and the fries were barely done. We gave the waiter our order instructions and he just said our menu item names back to us and evidently forgot or disregarded the particulars ! My expensive "prime rib" sandwich had meat so tough in it...the big strips of meat were difficult to chew to the point where I had sinewy strings between my teeth attached to chunks and I thought I might choke. I had to extricate them by fingers, how embarrassing. When the waiter brought our " split" shake he had merely added another straw. Macado's is definitely my favorite restaurant in Roanoke and possibly my favorite restaurant ever. Great wings and cheap beer, which is enough to satisfy me, but there is literally something for everyone on their extensive menu. Their prices aren't too bad, either, especially if you take advantage of their daily specials. I have never had bad service here. Example: last time, I was concerned about eating wings with a bad cut I had on my index finger. I asked the waitress for a band-aid and not only did she bring me a few different kinds, she also brought me this finger condom thing so that nothing would get under the band-aid! I found that really sweet of her but also hilarious. Macado's is the kind of place where you are not judged for ordering a ridiculous amount of beer, or even two beers at once. Used to be good-what happened?? Overall the place is filthy! You can smell the uncleanliness of the bar as soon as you walk in the door. The bar smells as though it as never seen a sip of clorox. Our table was dirty, yes it got a dirty rag swipe, seemed even dirtier. Food was not as stellar as I remember, same old tired menu. What I mostly mean by that , order some new menus . Those are nasty, as if they have never seen a clean up ever! The menu selection is fine, physical menu needs updating. Hire a decent cook. For having the same menu for the last 30 years, it seems it wouldn't be that hard to mess up a sandwich . Also , potato salad sucked" according to my dining companion. I really enjoyed eating lunch here! Our server was very sweet and on the ball with helping answering our several questions regarding the menu. However, upon first entering we stood at the door for just about 5 minutes before a host ever greeted us. Behind us a guy (whom stated he was a regular) said there's never a host at the door. So that was a bit off putting . But the food specials are great. Best drink specials I've seen around. They got my org food order wrong, so had to settle for a quick salad because we were in a hurry and couldn't wait for them to remake our food. But my other two people in party LOVED their food!!! I would go back because every kitchen makes a mistake, not the end of the world. And the drink specials are so good , it'd be worth it even if i didn't order food! read more

I am done with this Macado's location. I like the restaurant well enough but the service at this particular Macado's is so slow it is unbelievable. It has never taken less than 45 minutes to get food which is unacceptable considering how few people were in the restaurant when I visited and the simple menu. Tonight I ordered carry out. Two Diablo Quesadillas to bring home, how long can it take to make a quesadilla? I was told it would take 15 minutes. Now, I know how slow this place is so I gave them 20 before I showed up. There was no one at the front greeting table for the first 5 minutes I was standing there. When someone finally showed up they told me it would be a couple minutes before my food was ready. So now we are up to 25 on my wait time when I was told 15. So I sat... and waited. I'm sure I was beginning to look frustrated when a manager (?) walked by and said, "Oh are you still waiting? Let me see what I can do." This was 20 minutes later. So once again I waited 45 minutes for something ridiculously easy to put together. I could drive to the Downtown Roanoke location and back home in less time. Never again. read more

Every time I eat here I get sick... The boneless wings were so hard to bite into. Most servers there are horribly inattentive and spend most their time in the kitchen. Fries are re dropped and takes over 30 min for your food even if there's no one there. They have raised their prices and changed their menu so many times but are using cheaper less quality products. Macado's is the place I miss the most after moving out of Roanoke. I always got something different and it was always really good. I love the potato salad, although it does taste different every time I get it. It's a great place to grab a drink too. Most of the staff is friendly. The only problems I've had is that when you first walk in, there is rarely ever someone standing there to seat you, so you have to wait for the right person to notice you. And I once had to wait entirely too long for my food when the place was at its slowest...but that's okay, things happen. They have great specials throughout the week. I recommend the black bean queso for an app, or the irish nachos. The sandwiches are my favorite, and just the way I like them...thinly sliced and piled high! The decor is awfully cheesy, but so are most places in Roanoke. If you haven't been, you MUST go! read more

I am a big fan of "bar food" and I was led to believe that Macado's had some of the best! Wrong! For lunch, we ordered a basket of French fries after reading the Roanoke paper touting Macado's as having the "best fries in the city!" Wrong! They tasted like cold Ore Ida fries. We also ordered a basket of chicken wings...heavily battered and dry with horrible tasting barbecue sauce...I've never left wings on a plate! And, I ate the worse shrimp tacos of my life...heavily battered...couldn't find the shrimp...cold and stale soft taco shell with slice of avocado and bad wasabi sauce! Left also on my plate! This is for the macados on electric road across from tanglewood. If I could go lower than one star I would! Soon as I walked in I was assaulted with a dirty dish mop smell. The no personality waitress tried to put my family of FOUR at a two seater table IN A CORNER that had the mounding ripped off the edge. My kid could have gotten a splinter or something. Also it was not even close to busy so I don't understand why we were seated here. I would have been embarrassed to seat someone there. So I moved us to the next table over (a four seater table). The table was clean according to my husband but I have small children and wanted to make sure (because I think the stuff most restaurants clean the table with is gross). I used up FOUR baby wipes wiping down the disgusting table. The baby wipes were BLACK by the time I got done. The waitress came back over and looked down at them and wouldn't even touch them. I explained to her that "yes gross huh? That came off the table!" She didn't say a word. And didn't even say oh yea that is gross let me go back to the back and grab something to clean it for you. Nope nothing came out of her mouth. She actually looked put out. Poor thing. So I was thoroughly disgusted. But my husband really wanted to try the wings. Well the food went down fine. Tasted good. But we had to rush home because the entire family felt sick on the way home. All I can say is thank goodness we have four toilets!! Would never ever go back or eat the food. Even if it was free and brought to me on a silver platter. Oh and the bathroom counter there looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the place opened. After my family got home (and after we all felt better) I made the entire family shower. Gross !!!! And the staff = needs personality training. I will give Macados 4 stars for food/meals. They have a lot of choices and good choices for kids. However, I will have to give them 0-1 star for customer service. Our family usually goes there 2 times a year and each time we are greatly disappointed in service. The last time we went there, our server, Enrique, showed up 9 minutes after we were seated and took our drinks order. I think 9 minutes is excessive to wait to place an order for drinks. It was only three of us after all. We also placed our meal order at that time. He got the order completely wrong for my son which leads me to believe he was not listening AT ALL. The other meals were fine. It took us 49 minutes to get our food. What?!?! When you have a 3 year old, that is too much time. I honestly believe he forgot to put in our order. I have just moved to Roanoke and my daughter and I were taking a break from shopping and decided to have a sit down lunch on 2/24/18. We chose this Macado's. Big mistake. It took 35 minutes for the food to arrvive (nachos and a wrap). My buffalo chicken wrap was cold. I asked for ranch dressing and had 3/4 of my lunch eaten before the ranch came. My daughter's Irish nachos were good. However, when the server brought the meal she explained that they "were out of silverware" and served the meal with plastic cutlery. My water was never refilled. I asked to speak to the manager before leaving. Another 15 minutes of waiting later, he came. He was apologetic, stated they were short staffed, and said, "you've already paid, is there anything else I can do for you?". I feel it's not up to me to suggest solutions. We left and will never go back. Plus, all that time ate into our plans for the day. Disappointing to say the least! read more

We have been coming to this location of Macados for 4 years, service is outstanding with a capital A. The caveat, you must get Katie as your waitress as she is the only waitress that honestly tries to do her best, and shows she cares by remembering what your favorite drink is. When we have been served by others, the service was hit and miss. The best we could hope for is that our food would eventually show up with others. I waited almost 45 minutes one day for drink, when Katie saw we had not received them, she went and got them for us immediately, even though she was not our waitress. Avoid "kids eat free" night at all costs, it is NOT worth the money you would save! In fact, kids don't even eat for free, they are charging $1 per kids meal now. After a short wait, we (two adults and two children) were sat in the far bar area, with nearly every table full. After about ten minutes, our server finally made his way to our table to take our drink order. We gave our entire order, none of which did he write down, including an appetizer. Ten more minutes pass and we are again approached to confirm our order, which was incorrect. We still do not have anything to drink at this point. We only ordered water. Looking around the room, we realize that this is the only server attending to nine to ten tables, most of which has four or more patrons each. We inquire about our appetizer as he passes by, which he confirms that he put in and assures us it will be right out. Moments later, the hostess brings two meals out and places them on the table. After at least five more minutes passes, the server comes by asking if we needed anything...yes, the two children's meals and our appetizer! He apologizes, and says the rest of the food would be out soon. In the meantime, he runs out food to two other tables before finally returning with the kids meals. Still no appetizer. He apologizes again and says there was a mixup and that he would not charge us for the appetizer. By this point, we have finished eating, requested to-go boxes and the check. Our appetizer made it to the table then---55 min after we ordered it. Throughout all of this, we saw minimal servers and no managerial staff walking through the dining areas. This is always one of the busiest nights here, why wouldn't you staff accordingly to take care of all of the extra guests, most of which are tired children on a school night, so that tables could be turned more efficiently? We have been to eat here at least five times for kids night, all of which service has been slow, but this was the worst to date. We attended Macado's with our family from out of town, and friends from out of town. Our party was 5 adults and 3 children, two of whom were toddlers. We were seated outside and when it began to start to rain, they would not move us inside even upon request, or even set up an umbrella in the table designed to hold one to cover us from the cold rain. The food was sub par, the customer service was near non-existent and it was extremely loud and smelled like cigarette smoke. We will never return to this restaurant again. read more
