During finals I accidentally spilled water on my MacBook Pro and it turned black and would not turn on. Naturally, I panicked. I thought to take it to Cavalier Computers (like all UVA students do) but I am very thankful that my friend recommended this shop! Conveniently located on the Corner, I dropped it off and was quoted $95 for cleaning out the water. There was no firm guarantee that the fix would last long-term, but the kind employee told me that in his experience, it does last 9/10 times. They told me they could have it fixed that day (VERY helpful during finals season). I went home and got a text shortly after saying my hard drive would need to be replaced due to water damage. The price rose to $210 (total). I did some research and that price is much cheaper than other places, especially because it included a new hard drive AND the water damage repair. I told them to go ahead and do it. Within 30 more minutes, I was able to pick up my computer. I turned it on and it looked like nothing happened at all. All my files and even the programs I had open when it crashed were still there. I would highly recommend this place, especially if you are trying to choose between here and Cavalier Computers. Cavalier Computers is required to give you a 90-day guarantee, so often times they are forced to replace any slightly damaged part of your computer. Although they are biased of course, the employees at StayMobile told me the same job at Cavalier Computers would have cost at least $800 and taken over a month. I know students who have had loaner computers from Cavalier Computers for weeks and weeks without hearing a single thing about the state of their computer. I went into StayMobile with a broken computer and had a perfectly functioning computer less than two hours later. Also, the with a new hard drive, my 4-year old Mac should last at least 3 more years. read more

This place is committed to customer service. I have gone there many times and they are always cheap, friendly, and efficient in repairing my iphone, but recently my experience was different. I brought in my phone to have my battery repaired which should be a basic fix. Oliver fixed it as usual. It broke the next day for no reason and when I came back in, ready to freak out, he fixed it immediately again and was so apologetic he gave me his personal phone number so I could call him any time there was an emergency. When it broke again the next day, it was clear there was a larger problem. I messaged their facebook at ten oclock on a saturday night and they got back to me within minutes and offered to open their store first thing in the morning on sunday for me, sourcing me a new phone for free if they couldnt figure out what was going on. When I stepped on my brand new Macbook air, I nearly cried. I had just spent over a thousand dollars three months ago for this thing! I live right near UVA and shopped around for prices, and found Mac Simple. They were cheaper than Cavalier Computers in the student bookstore and the turn around was a few days instead of a few weeks. This thing looks and acts brand new and he even updated my software for me! The technician who helped me said a lot of repairs like hard drives can be done same, or next day too, so I definitely know where Ill be coming next time. As far as FINDING MacSimple, they share a store with a company called StayMobile on the corner (they fix the phones and tablets), but they both validate parking at the garage like 30 feet away so it made getting in and out easy. My older iPhone 12 mini started charging erratically. I had to wiggle the connector to get it to charge, so I assumed the connector had to be replaced. A friend suggested Mac Simple to get an estimate. As soon as I described the problem, the technician said it was probably just lint in the connector and he could quickly take it in the back and check it out. In about five minutes, he confirmed that was all it was and handed the repaired phone back. He would not charge me for the repair, so I just put a $20 tip on the counter and thanked him for such good service. I was expecting to have to decide if it was worth the cost of repair, and instead left feeling like I had met a new friend. This place is fantastic!! After several terrible experiences with a different but similarly named place I started searching for somewhere to get help with my MacBook Pro. I was impressed from the moment I walked in. It is a small store off of Main Street, and I had no idea it had been there for seven years. The two young men running the business were very professional and extremely helpful. I have needed to go back several times because of issues with my aging laptop, added to the fact that I had downloaded programs with malware!!! Mac Simple is a fantastic business! My laptop failed the morning after Christmas and I was not sure what to do. First I went to the mac store on barracks road because it was the closest. It was terrible! I waited in line for over 15 minutes for a repair technician to come out and the first thing he said was that there would be a $69.99 diagnostic fee so I left. Next, I tried Mac Simple on the corner and Tom, the owner, came to the front as soon as we walked in the door. Tom was very helpful, he gave me a upfront cost for repair that was much lower than the other store, and told me it would be done the same day. That was this morning! My Mac Mini's 2 hard drives started to die. I'm working remotely in VA and had to get it back up and running. Called them and was told to shut it down pronto and bring it in ASAP because that's the best chance to recover the data. They went over and beyond to try and recover the one hard drive over the weekend but it was too far gone. So two new hard drives installed later and Maverick installed I'm up and running again. The price was reasonable, advice freely given when asked - including a recommendation for a place in NYC that does Macs since TekServe closed their doors. My office is in NYC and I need a good place to go for Mac fixes. I cannot say enough good things about them and will recommend them to everybody that has a Mac. You ROCK!!!! read more

Oliver and company at SmartphoneMD (soon to be re-named StayMobile) did exactly what he said he would under budget and on time. The iPhone 4 would not stay on unless plugged in and could not find cell or wifi service when it was on. While fixing these problems, Oliver found that it had moisture damage, but he waited to fix that until he checked with us first. Very professional to not do unauthorized work. And best of all, the final bill was less than the original estimate by about $40. And they validate parking. And they're open on weekends. And they are pleasant to deal with. This is the place in Cville to take your macbook. Especially if you have any form of water damage. If you get water damage to a mac, your options are: 1) Apple store or peach mac, pay $700+ for brand new insides 2) Buy a new mac, we all know what that costs 3) Mac Simple, $100-$200 and he will clean up what was ACTUALLY damaged by water instead of gutting the whole thing, good parts and all. Fantastic. Highly recommend, quick turnaround. No appointment needed. No up selling (*ahem* peach mac) and lastly no pretending you're a tech and then shipping my laptop off to real techs (looking at you again peach mac). I dropped my phone down the stairs this morning. My phone worked just fine-- no broken glass-- but the plastic was coming apart on one side. I took it to Verizon first and they told me all they could do was upgrade my device (I'm not due for a few months) or file an insurance claim (I don't have insurance). They referred me to SmartphoneMD. Even though my phone was still functional, I didn't want the split to cause problems in the future. I headed over to Smartphone MD and I was in and out in 5 minutes. They fixed the split fast (I'll say it again- 5 minutes), their service was affordable, and my phone looks good as new. This is the second time I have brought my phone to staymobile. Once on a day I happened to be leaving town for a wedding, and then again today, when I have to pick a friend up from the airport. My Iphone 4S lost the ability to capture WIFI a couple months ago. The guys at Staymobile had it fixed in less than an hour and it worked perfectly. They warned me that this problem might return (apparently once an Iphone 4s has this problem it can be hard to fix permanently without replacing the entire phone). However they told me to bring my phone back if it ever happened again. The problem did come back a month or so later and they had it fixed again in less than an hour and free of charge. As others have said these guys are great. Both Oliver and Tom were courteous and knowledgeable. They had to do a lot of diagnostic work to track down the problem, but there was no upfront diagnostic charge. When it was all over, I realized that I needed to get a new computer, but Tom transferred all the data, helped with set up, answered questions, and wound up charging me nothing for all their time and work, taking my old computer for recycled parts in exchange. I'd give these guys 10 stars if I could. I've brought in 2 devices, both of which were destroyed by my kids and then further mutilated by my husband, who "attempted" to fix them.
