... with an ad in the PennySaver. I'd been a Software Developer, Software Engineer, and Unix System Engineer for years prior. A big Mac fan, from the days of the original in 1984, I loved the incredible cohesiveness of the user experience. By comparison MS_DOS was an abysmal mess . Even then Unix had moved well past primitive text based user interfaces, and good graphical user interfaces were emerging.
As a software engineer I saw Jobs and Wozniak had created a vision of how personal computers should work, and then optimized every bit to make it all happen on modest hardware we could all afford. Not long after, Woz moved on, and Jobs was fired from the company he founded. By '97, though Apple was flush with cash, the Mac OS, still based on the original was coming undone, and the Microsoft alternatives were good!
Steve Jobs was coaxed back, shortly after launched the iMac AND a new OS; Mac OS X, which was based on the UNIX. I knew the Mac was back, and Mac House Calls was born.
