Who you gonna call? Well when you have a hard drive fail that has a good majority of your family pics you start doing some research to find who can help you. My research starts with my friends and family. Maybe they have experienced something like this as well. No one I spoke to has had a hard drive fail but a few shared some computer issues they had had and recommended that I take my hard drive to Mac Daddy Repairs. They shared their positive customer experience and the friendly trustworthy interaction with a guy named Bodhi. They were happy with the repairs that were made to their equipment and felt strongly that Mac Daddy could help. I decided to do a quick check online and many of the same comments and recommendations were posted online. I made my choice and was happy I did so. Dropped off my hard drive, and was contacted quickly by Bodhi. He was clear on what was going to take place and got back to me quickly with the diagnosis. Unfortunately the status of my hard drive was not good. It was beyond repair. The customer service could have ended there. Mac Daddy did what they set out to do but.... Bodhi gave me some options and recommendations and was clear on what to expect. He pointed me in the direction of some data recovery specialists who specialize in recovering data from sources that have been severely damaged. He also warned me about the cost of such an endeavor. In the end I choose to not have the data recovered. Why would I not try and recover these important memories? Yes I had over 50,000 pictures on that hard drive that failed. Fortunately I had all the pictures stored on the cloud. Unfortunately they were stored, in chunks, in various companies cloud drives; Apple, Amazon, Shutterfly and EyeFi. In the end I was able to get all of my pictures back and now have them stored (all together) using various backups. Even though Mac Daddy did not repair my hard drive they will be the first one's I bring my Apple Computers to when I experience a problem. I had a major problem with my four year old MacBook Pro while on a work deadline when I found that it was not taking any charge at all and had died. I called and spoke with Bodhi who was very helpful and patient on the phone - and somehow managed to calm me down. I brought it right in, although I wasn't hopeful. He took a look at it and promised that the tech would see what's what the next morning when he came in. By the next afternoon they had cleaned it up completely and somehow managed to get it charging again so that we could transfer everything. Whew! Disaster averted. I thought for the amount of rush work that they did that the cost of the repair was very fair. I am so happy to have such a great resource in my town. I couldn't get some keys back on after cleaning the laptop, also some were still sticking. I took it to MacDaddy on a Monday. Got it back on Friday. Keys still sticking. Going to try else Actually, MacDaddy is not quite correct. The tech had problems logging into my computer, because the password includes one of the sticky letters. I've used them last year (2022) to replace the battery in my 2015 Mac laptop and I've had friends who are, uh, less tech savvy, have MacDaddy do a spring cleaning on their computers, Macs and Windows machines, that are old but still very serviceable. Had an issue with one of the MAC programs (PAGES) and was having trouble formatting the pages for a legal document that I was preparing. I made an appointment to meet with Bodhi and found that the solution(s) were quickly provided. It is so convenient to have someone local here in Sebastopol with whom one can communicate about these pesky computer problems...and, I found out that even the MAC has computer 'bugs' and he loaded a program on my MAC (Free) which takes this protection to a much deeper level...I think it's important to support our local businesses and its certainly more convenient than having to drive to Santa Rosa and the Mac Store... read more

I was running into trouble trying to load OS Monterey on our aging iMac. After I wound up with a black screen and blinking "?" folder, I tried some fixes I found online, but nothing improved the situation. I called Mac Daddy and took it in. Bodhi received it and explained what he would do, and that it might take a few days. He called back as soon as it was repaired. He said the fusion drive was broken, so the iMac couldn't find a start-up folder. He rebuilt the fusion drive, then loaded OS Monterey. I thought the fee was quite reasonable for the amount of time spent fixing it. read more

My iphone SE needed a new battery so I called the Apple Store. There I found out that their stores are closed but I could send my phone via UPS for them to replace the battery. The phone would have been gone for over a week and it is the only phone I have. As a 74 year old senior, this did not feel like a good idea. Mac Daddy had fixed my daughter's computer and I had no idea that they worked on phones but decided to check it out. I was happy to hear that they did! The shop is close to my home and I dropped my phone off at noon and it was ready by 4:00. I've gone to these folks several times and each time they perform the miraculous. My iPhone fell into the ocean: has worked fine since their repair of it. My old MacBook Air has tons of quirks, and they always figure out a work-around so that I don't have to give up on it. Highly recommend this heartfelt, caring and helpful team of techies! My MacBook Air got drenched in water after a heavy rain and after letting it dry out in rice for a week, I had little assurance that it would ever turn on again. I also brought it in right before their Christmas break and I was leaving to travel long-term before they would re-open, so the timing was very crunched to get it done in under 24 hours. Regardless of all this, they were able to bring my laptop back to life with minor repair costs and return it to me in time for my trip! They also gave suggestions for how I could fix other non-urgent parts if I chose to do so in the future. My only suggestion is to have better communication with customers because I had to call twice to ask for an update and got no return call as promised, so I showed up at the store without any update -- but was pleasantly surprised and my faith redeemed when the computer was fixed and ready! These guys did a perfect job with a fast turn around at a fair price. I had cracked my iPhone 7 screen and the charger port was malfunctioning. Bodhi fixed both (port just needed cleaning, not a replacement) and even though he was busy and shorthanded he knocked it out for me same day. Hello fellow yelpers! This was my first time as customer at Mac Daddy Repairs in Sebastopol. My early 2015 MacBook Pro Laptop was gifted me by my father who works remotely and is always on the go. The laptop bears significant signs of neglect, with dents in the casing as well as missing footpads (which is why I brought the computer in for repair). I had been quoted by Apple 120$ as they insisted the pads alone could not be replaced and I would have to replace the entire bottom aluminum casing for 150$. A Mac repair shop in Rohnert Park quoted me 99$ for 4 new pads. When I called Bodhi at Mac Daddy he was very optimistic that my device could be fixed at a fair price to me. He took my order down and assured me I'd be contacted when the replacements arrived 2-3 days later. Sure enough I received a phone call 2 days later notifying me that the feet replacements had arrived and requesting I drop my laptop off at my soonest convenience. The next day I brought my computer by without giving Bodhi a heads up, and within 20 minutes he had replaced all 4 feet and returned my laptop in as good as new condition. The cost was 20$! I was very impressed and pleased by the excellent communication, service, and professional work conducted by Bodhi and all others at Mac Daddy Repairs. Knock on wood I won't have reason to return anytime soon, but if a Mac or iPhone problem arises I know exactly where to go :) By the way, I heard they operate on Windows and android devices as well. After reading so many good, but old, reviews I decided that I would take my Mac mini down to see what was wrong with the internal hard drive, thinking that the connection may have gotten loose after I installed it. So I made my appointment for the earliest possible day, about 2 weeks in the future. So that day I dropped off the machine with instructions to find out what the problem was and recover the drive if it could be easily done. Having spent a number of years as the technical director of a Hollywood advertising agency I deeply understand the technical aspects of computers and systems that we were using, so I'm novice at the issues and fixes. I dropped it off on a Tuesday or Wednesday and when I could not get a message returned I drove down there to find out what was going on. The tech said that the drive was damaged and I asked if he was able to recover any files, and he said that he had archived what he could. I told him that I would bring in a replacement drive and he recommended that I get an SSD. I decided there might be nice to have a very fast drive, although in my experience SSD's can fail as often it's hard disks. I ordered one and it arrived over the weekend and I drove down and dropped it off to have it installed. He told me that he would have it done by the end of the week. That Friday I tried to call but again received no call back from message. So once again I drove down there and he informed me that he was busy restoring the data at the time and that I could pick it up next week. I asked what was taking so long and he said the restore was we're going very slow. I didn't ask him any particulars but did ask that he not install the new APFS, the new Macintosh file system, because of certain incompatibilities with SSD drives and install instead the old Apple extended file system. After returning from a weekend trip I tried calling on Wednesday but again got no return call from my message. By this point I was getting pretty tired of their cutesy little message and having nobody ever return my phone calls. So again I drove there. The answers I was getting were vague. He said it would be ready Friday. Friday I called again to see if it was ready, but of course nobody ever answers there and nobody ever returns a message. So once again I drove down there to pick up my machine. He told me that it would be done at the end of the day. At this point I had lost what faith in I had mac daddy and just told him I wanted the machine right now. He restated that it would be ready at the end of the day. About 4:00 that afternoon I got a phone call from Bodie the owner. He said it would be ready in an hour. I went down there and he asked me if I wanted to try to recover the old drive. As I had a fairly recent copy of most of the files I told him no as I didn't think I ever get any work done to my satisfaction anyhow. When asked about the poor communication, Bodie said that he had been away. When I asked why he never checked his message while he was away, he said 'I never do that when I'm away'. Obviously he didn't instruct any of the employees to return phone calls either. When I got home the internal drive didn't appear on the desktop so I had to go in and make some changes and then restore all my documents and applications. It was at that point that I realized that instead of installing Apple extended file system he had installed APFS. Too late to reformat, after I'd restored everything to a decent functioning state. All in all it was a very frustrating experience, which was made all the worst by the terrible communications. I figure if the owner of the business goes away should at least instruct his employees on how to carry on business. I also mentioned the fact that his phone message, which is extremely annoyingly cute jokey and long, still mentions that they would be closed for the memorial Day holidays, which were already long past. Last time I checked their message he still hadn't changed it. It's sad how once good businesses turn lazy and sloppy. read more

I spilled coffee on the table next to my MacBook Pro. Not realizing my laptop sucked it up, I went about my day and didn't discover the damage until much later, when it didn't turn on. While Bodhi managed to get it to turn on again, he offered to do a Spring Clean, which basically saved my laptop. He discovered the coffee had crept deep inside and had begun to corrode. So the whole mess was cleaned up and months later, haven't had a single issue. And, needless to say, don't put coffee anywhere near my laptop. They saved the day big time.
