Come here for authentic, old school Cantonese cheap, good eats. You can get soy chicken, roast pork, roast pig over rice and more. They also have a lot of bento/to go boxes ready to go including Zhongzi ( sticky rice), 糯米雞 (sticky rice chicken), duck wings and more. They make their own soy milk- and where else can you get a very filling breakfast for less than $10? With all of these rice roll shops opening up, I'm reminded of places like this that just hit home. No fuss, no frills, good solid authentic cooking- and so quick! I even cheated on my no pork diet but I hadn't had crispy roast pig in over 15 years and I just couldn't resist. It's perfect cooked, crispy outside, well seasoned and juicy inside over rice and greens for $10 - what's not to like ? Sure, some might be turned off by the hanging meat in the windows - but this is how you know it's the real deal. Also they open at 8am when the rest of Chinatown is dead. I highly recommend checking out M kee for solid authentic canto food . For those who care - the lady at the register is very kind , and her English is very good and also speaks mandarin read more

Tried their cha siu bbq pork and bbq pork ribs. It was served cold which wasn't my favorite but I think it would taste a lot better taken out and eaten at home. Portions are amazing. The meat was butchered in front of me and served within minutes of ordering. $9/half lb. - Cha siu bbq pork was very thinly sliced and perfectly fatty and had a sweet marinade but dry exterior. I wish the sauce they provided was a cha siu bbq sauce but it was just a soy sauce. $9/half lb. - Pork Ribs was a bit dry and tough probably from the temperature but the flavor was great with the little burnt ends. This is a no frills establishment serving the best duck I've ever had. When people ask about amazing duck in Chinatown they usually get directed to Sang Kee. While Sang Kee does have a more extensive menu and more seating, I personally believe M Kee has mastered Peking duck. The fat, the skin, everything is just perfect. When I first bit into it I went "oh my god" out loud. There is limited seating but they also do take out so you can grab and go from their pre-prepared items on the table when you walk in. Their other menu items are good and fine but I have not ordered a lot of them as I have been solely focused on the duck. This is a food that will haunt your dreams when you move to another area read more

Was craving some Chinese food and found this unassuming restaurant with hanged bbq meat on the front window display. This establishment main priority was definitely good food and decor was second. We ordered the Roast pork over rice and Shrimp with Walnuts and it surpassed my expectation coming from someone who ate this many times growing up. The owner was very friendly and attentive. I'd definitely come back. read more

Looked for a no-frills place in Philly Chinatown for some comfort food and saw a bunch of Yelp reviews for this place and i was craving shrimp rice rolls so we came! Unfortunately the rice rolls didn't hit, but the rest of the food was still good, served hot and fresh and the table, and we were given tea with the meal. The duck and roast pork were so yummy and their noodles were especially good as a base. read more

We had roast pork + roast duck and Wonton noodle soup. 1) The roast pork was good with crunchy skin with good balance of fat and non-fat meat. Good portion also. 2) The roast duck had good flavor but a little bit on the dry side. 3) The Wonton noodle soup - Soup had average/reasonable flavor - Wonton had average texture and flavor - Noodle had average texture Staff was extremely friendly. This was the only Chinese restaurant we visited up to this point so it is difficult to judge how this place stack vs others in the area. Important to note that I am using California Bay Area scale to rate this place. read more

One of a couple chinese bbq spots in chinatown. Decided to stop by to try the duck in Philly. There is the typical chinese bbq feel with limited seating. Food came fast and service was minimal. Kinda what you expect from these types of restaurant. Duck congee - Bits of duck taken off the bone and then chopped into small pieces mixed into soup. Congee was tasty! It was viscious and there was plenty of duck, and fat to add flavour to the congee. Fried dough sticks - A dissapointment as it didn't even come hot... its understandable to cook alot in at the beggining of the day, but please toast it or quick fry to get it crispy again... Would not recommend unless you ready to airfry it at home. Quarter duck - Was a bit surprised that they sell duck by the quarter. I guess its okay for them since theres always a line up for their duck. Duck was a bit on the salty side, had to balance it out with some plum sauce. Otherwise pretty tasty. Also it was alot of duck of a quarter. read more

I am beginning my journey to rate the takeout roast pork and roast duck spots in Phill's Chinatown, and thus my review is limited to that singular dish. M Kee takes home a solid 3.5 stars. The meats both have good flavor, with the pork being a bit better than the duck. The duck pieces i received were a little bit on the scrawnier side in terms of meat, with a lot of bone. A bit of veggies and lots of rice rounded out the bowl. The presentation of the food was pretty, and the service was fast and nice. Keep in mind theyre cash only. Though i took out, there was a bit of seating inside with the clientele being mostly older Chinese people during weekday lunch. Overall, I'd return and think the value for the money was a good par for the proverbial duck and pork course. read more

My 47th birthday adventure It rained all day, so I felt the need to pick a Chinese place before leaving Baltimore. If it hadn't been raining, the plan was to wander chinatown until we found a wheelchair accessible place with ducks hanging in the window. My boyfriend also had his heart set on duck noodle soup since he absolutely adores the soup from the Chinese spot in the Reading Market. With those three requirements in mind, M Kee fit the bill. I was overjoyed that there was a table available when we arrived, as there are only three tables in the restaurant. It's mainly a take away place, we had to move a table to get inside. The ramp is a little iffy, but I was determined. We weren't sure if anyone was going to come to our table to take our order, but eventually a woman rushed over and apologized, saying they were busy. Heck, that's how you make the money. Nothing wrong with that. Our food all came in take out containers. Most of the dining area is taken up by boxes and more boxes. They were making take and go meals next to us. I suppose if you can't be bothered to order ahead. Jeremy was disappointed in his duck noodle soup, even with the double serving of duck. All the duck dishes came with the bones still inside. Delicious but slightly complex to eat since you're constantly picking bones out of your mouth. Jeremy said the soup with bland. However, as an entree, Jeremy had Filet Steak with Black Pepper Sauce. It took longer to come to the table, but it was so worth the wait. It was the sleeper hit of the day. Everyone loved it, including our friend who doesn't like steak. Justin had these awful noodle crepes filled with "fried shrimp" that were not at all what we expected. I'm giving up on trying shrimp items at Chinese places. The flavor is always so overwhelming, and not in a good way. Justin said the filling reminded him of cat food. He also had hot and sour soup, which looked good. He seemed to like it. His boyfriend added some of the noodles from his entree to the soup. Brian had roast duck and pork over noodles. He thought the duck skin was a bit more flaccid than he would have liked, but the pork was good. He also said the noodles were too greasy, thus putting them in the soup. I had the roast duck and pork, no noodles. It was perfection and exactly what I wanted in life. The bathroom was out of order, kinda. It's large and accessible, but the sign above the toilet instructed not to flush toilet paper. There were three whole pigs hanging on hooks, ribs exposed, in the back corner of the "dining" area. I felt like it would be uncouth to take a picture. I had a great time and a fairly unique dining experience. Certainly not for everyone, but I bet the take out is phenomenal, too. read more

I love roast duck & pork and M Kee definitely satisfied my craving! Not only do they have good portion sizes, but the food was delicious! For $11 you can get both roast duck and roast pork on a bed of white rice which is good by itself, or you can ask for a side of the roast duck sauce which makes it so much better. The only thing for me was that the roast pork was a little too salty for my liking, but with the white rice it's perfect. We also got a wonton noodle soup with some huge wontons which was totally worth the money. Service was good as well, the staff gave us some free tea to pair with our food and we came out super full. read more

Very good food and accommodating - I ordered something that wasn't on the menu and it was no problem

Non-Cantonese style Chinese eateries (think Szechuan, Taiwanese, Shanghainese, etc.) seem to be replacing many of the old school Cantonese restaurants, especially in America's chinatowns. Whilst is has happened a bit in Philly, there are still many good Cantonese eateries here and M Kee is one of the better and more affordable ones. During these pseudo-pandemic times, no dine-in, but service was prompt and efficient. We ordered a half Peking duck (using it as an appetizer for 4), and a BBQ pork (cha siu) HK style pan-fried noodle. The noodle dish was easily large enough to be dinner for 2 people, plenty of noodle and nice frying to produce the right amount of crunchiness. The cha siu was fairly standard and the use of western broccoli diminished the dish a bit. The Peking duck was tasty though I wish we had chosen the traditional thin skins (we had the puffy rice baos, not sure if thin skins were available). I've had better Peking duck but this one was ok. M Kee could be in my standard rotation of Cantonese diners simply cuz the food is good, quick, and well-priced. read more

I went Saturday around 4/5 PM and there was no line! They're only open for takeout, so don't be alarmed if the door is locked - they'll come out to take your order and then bring it to you when it's done, which only took a few minutes. I ordered a 1/2 roast duck which cost $12! A little bit too salty imo, but still really good and lots of flavor! I felt like I definitely got a standard half duck - with any half duck, some pieces won't have as much meat but other pieces have a lot of meat. Definitely worth it for the price! read more

M Kee never disappoints. I ordered 2 lbs of siu yuk, and it was flavorful and the roast pig skin was perfectly crunchy. I introduced someone who loves chicharron but never had the Chinese version. They went to town on it! That's how you know their food is still great read more

The food was ok but this review is more about the space and cleanliness. The place has 2 tables that seat 4 and 2 tables that seat 2 people--so very small "dining" option. They stacked their to-go containers from table to ceiling and it looks sloppy. All of their food is served in plastic to-go containers which is then turned around and thrown away when the customers are finished. Not good for the environment. While waiting for our food, I saw the one waitress wipe down a table and then using the same cloth wipe (still in her hand), pushed down on the garbage can that was full of trash. Absolutely unsanitary. Not returning. No thank you. read more

Classic as always. My family have been long time customers, and during this trip to Philly Chinatown, M Kee did not disappoint. We picked up rice plates for lunch: combos of barbecue pork and duck with choy sum, and diced chicken and corn (tip: ask for added soft tofu). I had the chicken and corn rice plate, which was saucy and savory with plenty of ingredients. We asked for less salt, and it was still flavorful. The portions are good even for those with larger appetites. We also ordered crispy pork (siew yok), which has great crispy skin and a good meat-to-bone ratio. There used to be more seating inside, but maybe due to covid and/or increased takeout orders there were just 3 small tables, with the rest of the spare space devoted to storage and food pick up. It's easiest to order right at the entrance for takeaway. They take credit cards. I appreciate that the employees still wear masks. This is my kind of comfort food! read more

This hole in the wall spot is a five star single $ spot. Food over fancy. Hospitable staff, great portions. This is the take out spot for Chinese locals. Great if you want a quick, substantial bite. Food: I got the Char Siu Pan Fried Noodles. The portion size was HUGE. I honestly don't think this was meant for one person... it took a lot of time and willpower to finish it. In terms of taste, it wasn't too bad. The noodles were fine and there was a decent amount of meat and broccoli. The flavors didn't really jump out to me though, and it got a little tiring after a bit. Service/Environment: The service wasn't too bad; my order took the longest out of our party of six, but it wasn't excruciatingly long. The restaurant was kind of small, but we didn't really have any issues with finding a place to sit. Price: For the amount of food that you're getting, it was pretty cheap. I was barely able to finish my dish, and didn't spend more than $13 for it. Overall: Not a bad place, though I would probably look around for other restaurants in the area before coming here. If you want to eat a lot for a fairly cheap price, this might be somewhere you want to consider. read more

Nina W., you hit a home run with this one. This is a fantastically subtle joint to eat some really good Hong Kong style Chinese food. As it is not far from my hotel, I gave this one a try at her suggestion. The owners are super nice and accommodating. Their food backs it all up. I had to try their Roast Duck, and I got their pan fried noodles with chicken. It all tasted incredibly fresh, and delicious. Most notably, the duck was superb. Give me more of that stuff any day. It came on a delicious bed of sticky rice which was great in its own right. I absolutely loved the noodles. Crispy and light and the chicken was delicious. It came in a refreshing sauce and the portion was HUGE. There was no way I could finish all of this! For $18 (side note: cash only), this was some of the best Asian-esque cuisine I have had in a long time. I only discount the food is somewhat messy, and the broccoli I had was overcooked. Now I am just nitpicking. This was a great meal. Come check this place out. It will make you and your tummy very happy! Thank you Nina! read more

Yummy, authentic, cheap, no frills Cantonese food. One of my go-to place when I want quick eats. They serve food in plastic take out containers and drinks in plastic cups. Love this place! The roast pig and honey glazed roast pork are both awesome. Staff is very nice and quick.

One day I was craving for wonton noodles and roasted duck so this restaurant met 2 of my wishes. Everything was great except from the broth, it had no tastes in it what so ever. It was extremely bland like I was eating noodles out of water. However the duck was very good, they roasted it themselves in the kitchen. They also got chicken, whole pig and pork chop! Remind me the day when I lived in Hongkong. I went there around lunch time and saw that they were supe busy, especially for the takeouts! If you like to eat roasted duck go check it out you won't regret it! Even my white husband loves it（had words against my chicken feet though). They got quite a big menu so I showed it below. read more

I'm in Philly for a short time but already came here twice for brunch. I had their combo congee with fried dough, which was crunchy and congee was seasoned well. I was so full after. Tip: I like to soak my fried dough in the congee. I came back for their wonton soup, read some review that it might be soggy so I didnt have too high of an expectation and ordered roasted duck with it (just in case), but I was surprised! The wonton fillings were sweet and crunchy bc of fresh shrimp, and its wrapper was soft. Their roasted duck is excellent as well, nothing too special about the way they roast it, just that they didn't fail it lol. Service is typical of Chinese restaurant (I.e. wave them over when you need something and be a bit patience, but your food will come HOT out of the kitchen) read more

Visiting Philly Chinatown can be like manna from heaven after suffering from bad local Chinese food closer to me in jersey. I noticed a lot of 917 phone numbers on storefronts here. Probably a lot of Philly ctown businesses have nyc connections which is not a bad thing. M kee impressed me from almost all angles. The waiter was thoughtful and informative (very rare at an authentic Chinese place), the food was good and the prices were awesome. Wonton noodle soup had good broth flavor and noodles were elastic and chewy as I like. The actual wontons were somewhat underwhelming but not terrible. A bit mushy and dull compared to say HK wonton garden in Manhattan. I ordered a special recommended by the waiter - stir fried flounder with okra and minced pork in the restaurant's special xo sauce. It was the bomb. The flounder was cut into little chunks and each was stir fried golden brown. This is no easy task. I've stir fried flounder with mixed veggies before and it ends up looking like a mish mosh fish stew. The xo sauce was delicious. Hint of black bean and sweet but not overwhelmingly so. It was like a ctown version of teriyaki. The waiter asked me how it was and smiled when I said it was good. I felt a little awkward given that the place was a hole in the wall and the dish was only like 10 bucks but good service is never a negative. I just had to make sure he wasn't messing with me. Ctown waiters are almost never this friendly! I also ordered a dish of barbecue pork - cha sau ro. Delicious. So fresh and tasty and only $8 for a hearty serving. I had ordered this at Chuan Yue in Edison NJ where it was stale and too salty. What a huge difference it was at M kee. My awesome waiter informed me that you can specify how fatty you want the cuts of meat. I chose half lean and half fatty. Delicious! read more

Solid location for Chinese breakfast, they have soy milk, fried dough, and my favorite preserved egg and pork congee! Omg. How delicious. Don't hesitate. You must go here. Yes this is a random shady looking Chinatown spot. That's what you want in this situation. I wanted Chinese breakfast before leaving town. They open 8 am to 11 pm so you can eat here for any meal. After complimentary tea, we started with the sweet dough and noodle soup with roast pork and roast duck. So good. Lots of noodles. Lots of meat. Complex broth with great seasoning. My husband loved the pork so much we ordered lo mein with roast pork and fried wontons. You love a greasy and savory lo mein with thin slices of onions and roast pork. The won tons had more shrimp than expected and were served with a soy forward sauce. The menu was huge. Soups. Noodles. Rice dishes. Chicken. Beef. Seafood. Peking duck is the specialty. We spent $26 and they charged our debit card with no issue. read more
