My wife and I are extremely pleased with the hardwood floors installed recently by MJB Flooring in our living/dining room and in the adjacent family room. This was not the first time we had engaged MJB Flooring - after we remodeled our home nearly ten years ago, we had Mike install vinyl flooring in the kitchen and in two bathrooms, and carpet throughout the rest of our home. All flooring not removed by our hardwood floor project still looks attractive today. The hardwood floor project did present some challenges. In three corners that had suffered from pet damage (i.e., cat urine), Mike replaced the underlying plywood while being careful to maintain level flooring. Prior remodels that had introduced two locations where a concrete slab met a floor built over a crawl space presented more difficult challenges. Although each juncture initially was characterized by a noticeable bump, Mike was able to level the underlying support for the flooring so that the original problems virtually disappeared - I am confident no one will ever detect any unevenness. At our request Mike also built, in a closet, access to the crawl space below that is nearly invisible to the eye. We also appreciated the tactful suggestions Mike made concerning our choice of materials. We had originally chosen maple flooring, and Mike would have happily have installed that for us. He suggested, however, that red oak flooring would fit our décor better, and we now find that he was absolutely correct. The project was executed in a timely fashion, and Mike was always willing to take the necessary time to discuss in detail any questions or concerns we had. When options arose, he tried to find ways to save us money. In short the demonstrated high level of craftsmanship and the attention to detail ensure that we will continue to rely on MJB Flooring should we have need for new flooring in the future. read more

M.J.B. Flooring was actually recommended to me by the folks who painted my interior walls. They have worked together often in the Crescenta Valley, and since the painters did a good job, I took their recommendation, and called Mike Bako. I had a budget, I had a big job, I was terrified of the expense. Mike came to look at my property at my convenience, took measurements, and left samples about 18" x 18" with the recommendation that I move them around the house at different times of day to see how I liked them. I did that, and fell in love with the hickory...grown, cut, milled and processed in the U.S. His quote for my open concept home....entry, living room, dining room, and bedroom, was well within my budget. He asked for half the total cost up front to buy supplies. The job started as soon as he had the supplies. He made every effort to accommodate my lifestyle....making sure that all mess and materials were out of my way when I came home at night, and that I could still watch TV and move around. The job took 7 business days, and the results exceeded all my expectations. I wanted to vault to YELP right away and sing praises, but my realistic side said live with it a while, grow into it. Learn how to maintain it, and then write. So that's what I'm doing. I've lived with it, designed around it, grown into it, and maintained it for 6 months....right through the holidays. We have just had M.J.B. Flooring (Michael Bako) install new carpeting in our home (upstairs and a staircase), after having an excellent experience the previous year when they installed hardwood floors in our family room. Both projects were handled beautifully and professionally by Mr. Bako and Jared. I highly recommend M.J.B. flooring; it just doesn't get any better than this. Mike brings samples to my home (multiple times), does high quality work (a real craftsman) and goes above and beyond to make sure that everything meets his high standards. In both projects, we had additional challenges (weak spots in upstairs flooring and the lack of subflooring in certain areas when installing the hardwood). Mike Bako and his team are as professional and personable as a company can get. M.J.B. Flooring was recommended to us by another contractor working on a project at our house. Mike was very attentive to what we wanted and brought as many samples as we needed until we were satisfied. Ours was a time consuming project. The particle board subfloor needed to be replaced with plywood thought the house (a messy project). Mike and his team were organized, neat, and always cleaned up at the end of the day. We had new hardwood floors installed and two bedrooms got new carpet. The attention to detail was far more than we ever expected but truly appreciated. Thanks to Mike, my wife and I now have beautiful hardwood floors in our bedrooms. They are so easy to clean and great with our pets! Mike was super friendly and went the extra mile to get the look we wanted. Much more helpful than most big brand installers. He was able to blend the new hardwood so that it is seamless with our existing hardwood in our hall. If nobody knew any better they'd think it was the original flooring plan.
