It's way more "manageable" than bigger H-E-Bs, & while they might not have the obscure organics or artisanal offerings of a Central Market or other H-E-B's, this store is a hidden gem. The shelves are always stocked, the aisles are always clear, & the associates are always happy & quick to help. I pretty much know where everything is, but the few times I've wandered aimlessly looking for something, fellow shoppers -- mostly older & wiser -- have helped me find whatever it is I'm hunting down. I've always preferred small grocery stores to large ones, & I really have a soft spot for this one. Maybe because I grew up in the area, or maybe I just like how leisurely a shopping trip here is; I enjoy my time spent here, & I think it's a nice change of pace from the Walmarts & Targets of the world. A pro-tip: the H-E-B app is a great help for a store as condensed as this one (& any H-E-B in general). It tells you aisle by aisle if they have something you want in stock, so you can save time, gas, & energy if you need something in a pinch.

For example, the heb at Wm cannon and escarpment is a delightful family oriented market of fresh and diverse produce. You can choose from a variety of tasty samples, sample wine, and even learn how to cook proper meals from an heb chef teaching from a microphone. That heb resides in a higher property value neighborhood than its older sister store up the road. Which brings us to the old wm cannon heb. Long past it's glory days, this old gem is now claimed by relentless armies of black crows waiting to bombs away on the many pedestrisns and vehicles desperate enough to park under the crows favorite trees. Instead of cooking lessons, youl find eyebrow stylist. Substitute a fruit smoothy stand for food and wine tastings. Prices are still on point but produce/meats/hot foods selection seem to cater to the latin demographic that's predominate in this heb's neighborhood. Yet the staff is friendly and familiar. I've never felt unsafe at this heb but it's not unusual to see extra fuzz from time to time. No great wine or beer selection at this heb but you can certainly get all the ingredients needed to make menudo. Parking is annoying and that whole intersection has become a choke point along with most of that heb parking lot. So if you want the good stuff you gotta drive up the road a bit. The slaughter heb is better but not by much. I'm still giving this heb 5 stars because heb has been good to me and my family throughout the decades and I know how good they can be. Heck, I can remember playing arcade tmnt and street fighter here. So how bout it Wm cannon district manager? Is it too much to ask for the perks of nicer hebs or is this entire zip code gonna have to go to brodie or escarpment to get the good stuff?..

The park they built across the street is beautiful and equipped with a skate park, basketball court, playground and swings. I see why so many of the locals hang out here. I have found great items from food to cosmetics to pet goodies. I was grateful to find they have many options even though they are on the smaller side. When it is cold I often come for the warm and ready gumbo and tortilla soup. Their low carb ready to go meals have made my life so much easier during the busy week. They even have sourdough fresh made in the bakery. I usually end up here over most other stores for my main groceries due to the always pleasant experience. It does tend to get pretty crowded and parking can be tricky. So I often come during early hours during the week.
