I've been to many HEBs and this is by far my favorite one. It is always clean, organized and full of friendly employees. The park they built across the street is beautiful and equipped with a skate park, basketball court, playground and swings. I see why so many of the locals hang out here. I have found great items from food to cosmetics to pet goodies. I was grateful to find they have many options even though they are on the smaller side. When it is cold I often come for the warm and ready gumbo and tortilla soup. Their low carb ready to go meals have made my life so much easier during the busy week. They even have sourdough fresh made in the bakery. I usually end up here over most other stores for my main groceries due to the always pleasant experience. It does tend to get pretty crowded and parking can be tricky. So I often come during early hours during the week. read more

Seafood Boil Bayou! I just wanted to leave a comment on service to a sample.. I see my neighborhood HEB have boils that makes want to know what it taste like. I have had success with buying frozen boils from WalMart without taste because the price elevates the taste. The taste suppresses my families expectations. I have recently purchased a boil that was not HEB from HEB. .......It was not very good. So as I walk out of HEB with a minimal purchase because of my confidence in quality. I asked the Boil specialist and he said "No.... We don't do that here." I was stapled with disappointed and discouraged on their quality, once again. If this review were just about the deli or bakery, it'd be a glowing five stars. Heck, I'd bake them a cake. But, alas, this story has a tragic twist: the floral department. And wow... just wow. I strolled into HEB on a quiet weekday morning, thinking, "How hard could it be to get a price on some balloons?" (Spoiler: harder than it should be.) I wandered over to the floral department, where a small crew of women saw me. Multiple times. Made eye contact. Not one of them acknowledged me. Not even a, "Hey, we're busy--be right with you." Nope. Just icy glares, like I was an inconvenience to their floral kingdom. After an awkward 5-7 minutes of pretending I didn't feel judged for existing, I gave up and went to the deli. Oh, the deli. My safe space. Despite being busy, the deli crew greeted me warmly, let me know they'd be with me shortly, and when it was my turn, nailed my order with smiles and efficiency. A+ service. From there, I moseyed to the bakery, where the staff were equally awesome, even though they had to break the news that I needed to come back the next day for a cake decorator. No biggie--they were friendly, professional, and helpful. Feeling renewed hope for humanity, I decided to give the floral department another shot on my way out. Big mistake. Same glares. Same silent treatment. Another 5-7 minutes of my life I'll never get back. At this point, I had errands to run, so I left and thought, "I'll deal with it tomorrow after the cake decorator." Fast forward to the next morning: cake decorator? Absolute gem. Sweetest person ever. If she made balloons, this review would've been over with confetti and a parade in her honor. But no, I had to head back to floral. Again. And what greeted me? The same group, same vibes, same "Why are you even here?" energy. This time, I spoke up: "Excuse me, can I ask..." Cue the most passive-aggressive, teeth-clenched response I've ever heard: "We can't help you until after 2." Excuse me, what? Tunnel vision engaged. Sheer disgust activated. I calmly said, "I just need a price on a balloon bouquet." Her answer? $13. For ONE mylar number balloon. HEB, are y'all inflating these balloons with liquid gold? Or is the helium from another planet? Because that price is bonkers. HEB, please--for the love of good customer service--get this team some help. Whether it's a day off, better training, or a crash course in "How to Not Terrify Customers," I don't care. Just do something. Because this? It is not it. As for me, I'm officially done with the HEB floral department. Forever. If anyone asks, I'll point them to Dollar Tree, where the balloons are a fraction of the price and the people at least pretend to like their job. Shame on you, HEB. Do better. read more

I get the hype surrounding H-E-B. I hear about it frequently from my Texas friends, and when going to Fredericksburg, this is our go-to for groceries. The prices are extremely comparable to the national chain just down the road, and they have a lot of items you simply cannot get anywhere else in town. We grabbed a lot of prepared items from the deli for easy snacking and meals. From the premade dips to the chicken salad to the cheeses and flatbreads, everything was great. The layout of the store is a little off, but it was easy to find our way around. Staff was super friendly. The store is clean, and there's a little kitchen and seating area if you need to rest or eat while you're there. The bathrooms were very clean and I saw some staff go in to check it out while there. We visited twice during our stay this time, and it was quite a pleasant and affordable experience both times. read more

It pains me to give this low of a rating to a H-E-B since I truly love that grocery chain. We came to shop for some baby back pork ribs on 11/10/21 to grill in the next day or two. We bought 3 huge packages and each package cost $16-$17 each. I always pay careful attention to the meat expiration dates and all 3 packages had a 11/14 expiration date. My hubby makes delicious ribs by putting on a rub and grilling them in small sections in a rib rack over indirect heat. When he started preparing the ribs to grill, the meat in one of the packages smelled funky, so we had to trash the entire package. That's $17 straight to the trash! This was on 11/12, two days before the meat was due to expire! Hopefully this trip to H-E-B was an anomaly because I truly enjoy shopping at any of their locations. read more

I used HEB Blooms to do my floral for my wedding last month and wouldn't recommend. It was like pulling teeth to get the floral manager and store manager to even book the original consultation. I still used them, because there are very few florists in Fredericksburg. I wish I hadn't, considering they were 2 hours late. We didn't get to take pictures with the bridesmaids bouquets or have floral in our pre-ceremony pictures. Very disappointing considering how much we paid for these. Also, the floral manager, Brittany was the one that was two hours late and didn't even decorate the way that I asked. Only giving them a 2 because the flowers were of quality and they did show up before the wedding. Overall, I would strongly advise using anyone but HEB Blooms for your wedding. read more

Our first couple of trips to Fredericksburg, we didn't even realize there was an HEB here. I mean, who worries about grocery stores on vacation, right? Yet, that left us getting last minute needs at smaller places that were more expensive. HEB's don't exist where we live now, which makes me miss them more. Now whenever we are in the area, we come here. The prices are great, the service is helpful and it's a big clean location. No diss to the Walmart, but this is the place to go... okay, small diss to Walmart. I was combining some drives the other day and was reminded of the biggest plus about this place when I came across my wedding files. When we got married a few years ago, we had an small outdoor wedding with a casual reception. I had forgotten how much of it was taken care of by HEB and it made me love this place all over again. Though there were some sweets provided by some of the local bakeries, we were able to use the bakery and deli here to take care of most of the needs of 50 guests for an afternoon wedding. I want to share some of the breakdown with you to show you what a great stop this is for your next event. For less than $400 we got: 3 large Premium Quality Deli Meat Trays (turkey, ham, roast beef, cheese) 3 large Fresh Fruit Trays (with cream cheese dipping sauce) 4 large Veggie Relish Trays (with spinach dip) 2 Ranch dips 1 Dill dip 1 Garlic Artichoke dip That price tag also included a variety of bread including egg dinner rolls, Kaiser rolls, bollilos, wheat sub rolls, onion rolls, ciabatta, croissants and several loaves of artisan breads. There was also a healthy amount of sweet tea, unsweet tea, lemonade, bottled water and soft drinks in that total. Considering there was a ton left over, we could have probably done the reception on $285 and still had everyone full. Before you turn your nose up at utilizing your grocery store for a reception, keep in mind that weddings are stupid expensive for an event that lasts 4 hours. Besides, our family and friends aren't uptight and everyone was happy with the assortment. I found this budget decision to be a source of pride with what a success it was. The deli needed 24 hours notice for the quantity and was able to do the order by the phone. I had come in person a few months earlier to determine the selection and the staff that would be handling it, but I didn't have final counts at that time. Since I was handling a destination wedding from far away, this was a relief to me. While down for that reconnaissance mission I checked out their bakery and was surprised to find that they had a book of wedding cake designs. After talking to Carrie at length and sampling some things, I was really impressed with what an HEB bakery could do. Carrie needed 2 days notice, gave me her work schedule and worked with our pick up time and was overall amazing. Since I had seen their book and was comfortable with the design, the rest of this was also handled via phone and was a separate cost from what I mentioned above. We got a 2 layer cake that serves 72 called Natural Beauty which was a white cake with buttercream. This thing was such a hit most guests left with leftovers. It was much more delicious than I expected and it was $72!!! I am attaching a picture because I think it was worth more than I paid for it. Note, it did NOT taste good on our 1 year anniversary, but that's not losing them a star, lol! :) I've always been very lucky to discover great deals and great people and that's the kind of thing that should be shared. The heads of several departments went out of their way to make our fairly simple requests an extra special reality. The quality and price didn't hurt things either. If we decide to do a family reunion next, this will be the place I turn to. read more

This is one of the best HEBs I've been in. The produce is clean and beautiful and well organized. They keep it STOCKED. There's always help to be found in the meat department. The store workers stay busy but also are friendly and helpful. The deli has a great selection and the lunch options, ready-to-eat are plentiful. They have enough lines to accommodate the rush and lots of cashiers. read more

Huge thanks to Miss Elizabeth in the Floral Dept. Not only did she create the most beautiful floral arrangements for my dear Aunt's funeral she made sure we got anything and everything we asked for. We reached out to a local florist first but they told us they didn't have time. I personally know nothing about flowers and just gave her a basic request and I received a work of art. Not particularly impressed with the less-than-friendly staff here at this location. I have run into unfriendly characters in Fredericksburg in the past, so I suppose some of these same folk have found their way into employment at local businesses. H-E-B does a great job of instructing their employees about customer relations and every H-E-B I've visited in San Antonio has wonderful employees who take the time to help with any questions you have and, in a very warm manner, interact with you as you check out. That's not what we encountered here. Despite the cold shoulder, the store looked presentable and met my shopping needs as all H-E-Bs do. HEB has remodeled the store greatly reducing the coffee selection. I settled for a different selection and now it's been out of stock for days. I just want whole bean coffee without all the wet candy coating flavors dripping off. No pumpkin spice. Just plain, dry columbian coffee beans. The coffee was my main reasone I shopped here. Now I have to buy online from Amazon and the cashier at HEB couldn't care less. She suggested I not shop here anymore. They just lost my business. The managers here and most of the employees are very unfriendly and unhelpful. They seem to hate their jobs? The produce is half ok, half garbage. I've purchased avocados here, for example, and they were horrible and I had to throw them away. And their avos were not inexpensive. At all. This is generally a very good store, and HEB is a great corporate citizen, typically loading food and supplies on trucks and delivering them to the latest Texas disaster, without being asked. One of my favorite companies. But... While HEB quickly adopted an employee mask policy when the COVID19 pandemic broke, the policy would be much more effective in this store with better employee training about how to actually wear the mask. A good number of the employees on a recent visit wore masks covering only the mouth, which is close to worthless. One guy pulled his mask down so that he could cough into his elbow. You are so close to a home run, so why not do it right? read more

I was shocked! This is a super nice HEB for Fredericksburg! I was expecting something with a lot less selection. They have a wonderful wine selection. That's primarily what we were shopping for. But had I known that this HEB had such an extensive selection of everything else, then I wouldn't have wasted $15 on flax seed oil somewhere else in town. Probably the rudest employees of any HEB. I expect that from teenagers but this one is mostly elderly. I was pushing my cart through a narrow aisle when an employee came through. She had no cart and her hands were empty but she refused to stop so that I had to pull my cart back out and let her pass. Then I had P as a cashier. She was terribly inconvenienced by how long it took me to swipe my card because I was busy trying to bag my groceries. A normal cashier would have taken over bagging so I could pay, not P, she actually huffed and glared as I held up the line trying to do both. Today I had the misfortune of having N as a cashier. Her special talent was that she can't swipe and talk at the same time. Holiday week, store is packed, 4 express lanes, 2 normal ones and N who took 20 times longer than the others. I don't understand the negative reviews. This is one of the best grocery markets I have ever been to. I live in Fredericksburg half the year and in Frisco, TX the other half. I wish I had this market in Frisco. It has such a fantastic selection and everyone I have ever encountered has been very nice. The wine selection, produce, and grocery selection is top notch. They carry a lot of Central Market items and they have this fantastic section where they offer ready made foods that either just need to be heated up or is ready to eat! My husband and I visited this store several times to get things for our cabin stay while visiting Fredericksburg. I have to admit that I am a long time fan of HEB and wish I had one close to where I live. The store has everything and then some. The tortillas were made fresh in the bakery and the HEB brand fajita meat is very good. The bathrooms were always clean. I hope someday we get an HEB in Fort Worth Texas! read more

Is H-E-B Open today? This is the most important question of any Texan's day wherever you are in Texas, except for those poor souls in West Texas, specifically Hell Paso, but that really doesn't count because that is practically New Mexico anyways and weird out there, and they have no HEB. Ah yes Fredericksburg HEB. There's Walmart for groceries, but HEB can't be beat really with their meats, and produce here in town. They're the only HEB here and their selection is pretty good, unless you are looking for some off the wall weird stuff. I have been to the one in Kerrville and a lot of stuff there they don't have but this one does and this one seems a little bit larger than that one. The only complaint I have about this one is some of the kids working the register are quite damn rude. I don't expect to have a conversation like with a best friend or some long lost war buddy from Korea, but damn at least acknowledge a "good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening". I can see once in a while getting someone that had a bad day but many times I've passed through here and gotten looks that kill and no replies to my greetings. They give you their standard 'did you find everything?" I guess they're supposed to say, but damn you would think I murdered their dogs in cold blood or something. The workers in the back and elsewhere have always been very nice and helpful I will praise them much and they deserve to be complimented greatly. Up front it isn't happening. Also this store is nice and clean, but that might have a lot to do with it being Fredericksburg. read more

Yes I am a frequent shopper at HEB...Not much by way of competition. The market for Organic produce foods is small but growing. The wine selection is nearly as vast as the Central Markets in Austin and San Antonio. It's a pretty good sized HEB for a smaller town. And it's where everyone meets and greets everyone else on any given day,...Just like grocery stores have always been and should remain to be. read more

I love HEB and shop there wherever I go. The one in Fredericksburg is the worst managed store I have ever been in. Example: numerous employees milling around the store and I am at the deli counter wanting sliced meat number six in line. We waited while the one person working behind the counter, with a scowl on her face, waited on another H-E-B employee ordering numerous items. He works there and has all day to get his groceries.
