I used to live in Roselle after graduating from college ( a long time ago) and I remember driving past this quaint, older looking home that was Lynfred Winery. I always wanted to stop by but didn't. Now it's a massive winery - how cool is that? After a recommendation from friends, we spent a fabulous Saturday afternoon enjoying the wines and food of Lynfred! Who knew such a place existed close by? Their wines are actually pretty decent for an Illinois winery. I've done the Southern Illinois wine trail and obviously, Illinois cannot compete with California and other west coast states in terms of wine - we are limited by our "terroir". Having said that, Lynfred actually produces some decent wines. I particularly loved their Tempranillo - bold, with a spicy aftertaste. We did a wine and cheese pairing, and simply had a wonderful afternoon full of good wine, cheese, and great conversation. And their staff is very friendly - we particularly thought Rachel was fabulous. I highly recommend Lynfred for an afternoon or evening wine event - it's a bit of California just outside of Schaumburg! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for pretty much....forever. I tend to not visit the local wineries for some reason but it was my birthday weekend and I wanted to do something different so I did hit up two tastings locally, this being one of the places. It was Easter weekend as well so I wasn't sure what to expect. I will say that I'd like to return for a tour/tasting sometime, and to visit the store when I have more money on hand because the store has all kinds of cute things, and lots of cute wine glasses for gifts (I'd say for yourself too but me, personally...I have enough wine glasses should I ever have my entire family and all of my friends over for a wine & cheese party). The tasting was $9 but you don't have the tasting AT the tasting bar, you have a piece of paper with what you're drinking and you go outside the store and enjoy your tasting instead of just standing at the counter and downing your samples one by one. I liked that part of it...it wasn't rushed or anything so it was nice. We did have to go back inside to the tasting bar to get our last sample though. Again, I would like to go back here and try more as they have a different list of samples every month. I didn't purchase any wine the first time around either but the quality is good, and definitely worth a visit. read more

Went for the 7 dollars/7 wines tasting-I'm not a member. I live too far away but a friend of mine is in Roselle and suggested we go there to hang out. For a Tuesday night it was pretty crowded-with holiday shoppers and tasters. The staff was incredibly nice and friendly-we ended up closing the place out but you couldn't tell from the staff who were just as friendly as they were when we got there. I'm not a wine expert but there were some better than others, but it was an interesting mix they had going and they had their seasonal, spiced wines. We got to sample them as well so really, it was 7 dollars/9 wines were delicious both red and white. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will probably come back again. read more

I came here on a weekend for some wine tasting with friends. First of all, finding a place to park was ridiculous. The Lynfred lot is small, and all the other lots in this section of town were full. I ended up a couple blocks away in the one street parking spot that was left. I walked into the winery and it was packed. Everyone for the free 2pm tour was standing the the main room. It was difficult to walk around and get in line to pay for our tasting. We waited in line, and when we paid ($11 for a regular tasting), we were given a tasting glass and a list of wine choices. I thought the tasting would occur there, at what seemed to be a bar area, but we were told to head a few rooms over for the tasting. OK... I was kind of surprised as to how your tasting was done. I've been to quite a few wineries around the country, and you typically stand up at a tasting bar with a pourer and go through your tasting. At Lynfred, it was different. We found the tasting "bar" and were told that you go up, pick a wine to taste, the bartender will mark off that we used one of our tastings, and then we go drink the sample sized pour of wine elsewhere. Like, somewhere else in the winery. Granted, there was only room for one person at the bar at a time, but there really wasn't anywhere else to go. My friends and I found a small two person table, but most people were sitting on window ledges. And anytime food was carted into the VIP room, just about everyone had to move so the cart could get by. We followed this process for each of our tastings. I had fun with my friends, but didn't really enjoy the way we had to do the tastings. That and the fact that we didn't have a place to really be while we drank our wine made me not enjoy my time at Lynfred very much. I don't think I'll be back. read more

Largest Winery in Illinois (by bottles produced) Wife and I took a short drive down and did their wine tasting with the extra premium choice - $25 for us both. Very good selections, they give you about 6-7 different choices to try. We bought an Apple fruit wine (tasted like baked apple pie!). The free tour on weekends was interested, but having been to Napa and taken several tours there it's nothing new. Interesting history, neat to have something like this close to home. You'll likely miss their driveway coming from the north, pull into the first side street on your left, left again before the next road and you'll get to their back entrance. Nice to do on a Sunday (or Saturday) afternoon, I'd recommend it! read more

I love the fruit wines. If you buy a case of anything you get 10% off. I believe there's a deeper discount if you're in their wine club but check me on that. I used to belong to the wine club but wasn't so interested in their other wines and so would find myself having to buy all of those monthly wines that really didn't do it for me. But if you like that variety... There's a big gift shop area with some gourmet food items if you're looking for something wine themed. They do tastings and cellar tours too. I hear the B&B is nice though Roselle isn't exactly the most interesting town for such a thing. My daughter looked into it for her wedding two years ago but found the coordinator for that to be difficult so she went elsewhere. read more

We went there just a couple days ago for Father's Day, as my dad recently discovered they joy that is wine and I fell in love. I am amazed that I didn't know about this charming little spot earlier, because I can't wait to go back. The grounds here are lovely. The winery is attached to the founder's home, where he still lives and is connected. There is a very strong Napa charm about the place, with ivy, brick walkways and beautifully decorated interiors. I imagine the B&B rooms they have are just spectacular. Right when you walk in there is a large, hand-carved wooden bar where the tasting is done. Every staff member was cool as can be and super helpful with questions about wine, membership or anything else. We ended up going for the premium tasting package, because hey, we are totally worth it. With that we tasted 7 different wines and one fancy, which in all of our cases was their awesome ice wine. We were there for a cute little tour of the building, including the cellar and VIP tasting room. Apparently they do receptions and showers down in the cellar and I can imagine it's like having a party at some vineyard in California, not that I would know or anything. Being Father's Day, my dad was given a free glass of Merlot at the end of our tasting. While that wasn't one of our favorites, the others clearly made up for it. I ended up leaving with a bottle of apricot wine, kiwi-peach wine and a fruit wine club membership. I pay 10 $ a month and get a bottle of tasty fruity wine and tasting discounts. Everybody wins! read more

I was given a gift certificate for a free wine tasting and tour and thought it would be a great way to spend a girl's afternoon out. We arrived and the gentleman behind the counter was incredibly friendly and told us it would be just a moment for our tour guide. Nicole promptly met us up front and brought use down to the winery to start our tour and tasting. She was incredible. She was very nice and very informative. The wine sample size was generous and the place itself is beautiful. I highly recommend this place. read more

If your not a member you should be! The wine is exquisite! Love to come here for tastings, especially in the summer and have snacks along side the wine. There's endless options from the baked bread to grapes and cheese to items in the gift shop like the exciting crackers! Never miss Oktoberfest, it's awesome! You can bring your freshly purchased wine to 8,000 miles, a brief walk away, and have it corked for free to enjoy with your dinner! (Keep your receipt from that day) read more

I've driven by this place and had no idea of what a gem this place is - about 40 minutes from downtown Chicago. Its a working winery and B&B. I was recently here for a wine tasting. This was a Groupon and included a tour of the winery for ten people, a sweet deal and a pleasant way to celebrate a birthday. The tour and tasting lasted about an hour. The wines in the tasting varied but I think they contrasted nicely. The highlight of the tasting was a Cabernet Merlot. read more

The first thing I noticed about Lynfred Winery on this visit was that it is wheelchair-accessible. And I had no use for that knowledge outside of Yelp, so I'm starting to think that I might be getting a little toooooo addicted. But that is a burden I'll just have to bear. Anyhow, aside from its wheelchair-friendliness, Lynfred is an ivy-covered stone B&B slash winery. They give free tours on weekends at 2pm and 4pm, and have a ton of events both for members as well as non-members. Membership is not expensive and any money you pay monthly comes back to you in the form of vino, which is not a bad currency here. ;) Lynfred makes their own wine from national grapes that come largely from IL, MI, and Cali. I don't like all of their wines, but I do like many. :) They change the wines in their tasting every month, which is always a nice reason to go back... it's $9 for a 7 wine tasting if you're not a member, $7 if you are. They have a little basket of bread to cleanse your palate, but you can buy more food to go with your tasting if you want. The hosts are nice, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and they've got a nice little shop attached. While pricey (most wines are $18+), the tastings are totally doable and it's nice to mix things up. read more

Stooped in with some friends during one of their tasting events. The couple we went with are members. Sampled 3 reds and 3 whites that afternoon. Very nice place. Front bar area to order wine by the glass and gift shop. Tastings happen along the mezzanine above part of the winery. They offer winery tours and special tasting room for private parties. They also have a Bed and Breakfast with nicely decorated rooms. Different packages available depending on what you want to do. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend checking out the winery and it's offerings. read more

I liked the wines and the gift shop. Went on a Saturday at 4:00 p.m. - was told they did wine & cheese tastings on a first come basis until 6:30pm - couldn't get in at 4:00 because it was sold out for the day. Very shoulder to shoulder crowding at this day/time. Wines were good, very sugary (check out the streaks it leaves on your glass, a sign of residual sugar). They don't rinse your glass between tastings unless requested, which is okay. This was a 3 star experience with 3.5 star wine. I've been to over 40 wineries all over the US, this being the 4th in Illinois. They have a good variety in selection and price points to choose from on their shelf product. It was $9 to taste, got to try 8 wines and didn't get to keep the glass. They ship the fruit juice (grape or other) in from Washington and California and ferment and make wine on premises. Their staff were semi-knowledgeable and had to be asked for information. I would go again but not on a Saturday evening. I had to wait in line constantly and people had to squeeze to get through doors. This is located in a cute building, with rocking chairs/tables out front and private parking lot. There is a Metra stop just 1 block away, so its good for transit riders. read more

Brace yourself for more 'Things-I-Miss-About-Cal' nostalgia. We miss Napa and Sonoma soooo much. We loved our monthly outings exploring different wineries, returning to our favs, eating at LaSalette (excellent Portuguese) and Bistro Jeanty (Good French). Good times. Imagine our surprise to find this GEM right here in our backyard!! Thank you Lynfred for alleviating a bit of the homesickness. The owners have obviously put so much attention and work into their establishment, and their pride shines through. It's got a folksy European feel to it. Very welcoming, visitor-friendly establishment, with several rooms - a main tasting area, the store with a wide selection of gift and delicacy items, and a VIP room often open for members. They have many monthly activities and a tour that we haven't had a chance to attend yet. I'm really looking forward to a cooking class here. We've joined their red wine club, which reminds me, I need to pick up this month's selection. The wines have been a little uneven, but very palatable overall. Their Cab-Shiraz blend is VERY good, and I believe won awards. The grapes are all sourced but blended on site. They're also a 4-room B&B, so when I have a chance I'm going to ask to check them out - they're in different themes - American, German, Italian and French. Too cute. Dunno about the noise, though, they're right next to the Metra station. read more

Had such a wonderful time learning about the winery and its origins. Fantastic history. I look forward to returning and maybe one day even staying at the Bed and Breakfast! In general, I have a glass of wine every now and again, but my favorite alternative has been their sangria which they offer in the white and red varieties. read more

Stayed in their Italian suite last week. It was a great room. A large living room with couch, tv and chairs. And a cheese and fruit plate waiting along wi th a delicious dessert in the fridge, so really nice touches. Nice bedroom and monster bathroom, with dual shower and then separate hot tub for two. Really cool. The nice thing is they have 4 suites and we had 4 groups staying for the night, so we took over the section. All 4 rooms open to a center area where they brought dinner and wine. We also did a tour of the wine making area, which is ok, but not a must do. Food and wine were both good, but the rooms and private layout is what makes it worth doing. We saw all 4 suites and they are all nice. Not sure one is better than the other read more

It's not that long of a drive. Me and some of the gang, went there thanks to a groupon and a gorgeous gift. The winery its self is a fantastically charming brick structure. Most of the crowd there came for the tasting tour. Something I highly recommend. You are given three options following the tasting and tour that allow you to kick the party up a notch. The staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The wines were from a spectrum of grapes with varied ingredients that offer taste for every palate and every price point. It's great for small groups and couples. Obviously not so much for kids. Lastly, since they have a kitchen for the Bed and Breakfast, why not kick up the nosh a notch. read more

I live down the road from here but until this fall only went on occasion. I am now a member and look for reasons to go. I love the staff! The wines have gotten so much better in the last few years. I am in the red club and love going to pick up my wines. What is nice is I am ok going alone. I will go enjoy a taste or pick a fav wine and get a glass, walk around - I usually find someone to chat with. I am hoping my suggestion of a singles group will show up on the calendars soon. I would love to hang with some local singles and enjoy wine. read more

Wife and I visited after seeing signs along the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway. We were on the way to nowhere in particular, and ended up stopping in for a wine tasting and some souvenirs. GOOD: Cute as the dickens, this old house-turned-winery is like a thousand grandmas houses combined into one. Lots of tasty treats in the gift shop. Wine tasting was way more fun than I ever thought I'd have in Roselle. The free baguette I got with my Yelp check-in was delicious. (Made awesome french toast the next day.) Friendly staff. Unlimited bread cubes to enjoy while getting blitzed on wine tastings on the patio. MEH: The tastings and the bottles of wine for sale are a bit pricy for what you get. The wine is of the simple, overly-sweet flavor you might expect to find at a bachelorette party or folk art show. Good for young girls and older folks. I myself prefer wine with a bit more of an aggressive flavor experience. My wife insisted that we buy a bottle of cherry wine, which cost me $35! It had better be good. Overall, I enjoyed it just enough to want to come back sometime. For the area, it's about as much fun as you'll find without breaking the law. read more

The ladies at the winery were super nice to us. They provided great places for us to visi trying while we were in town for a couple of days. The white wines were excellent. Surprising find in IL! We never visited since we thought (wrong!) Midwest wines were only sweet. We purchased a pairing with Alinea pickup during January and tried some recommended pairings. Surprising good! Just visited in person for an outdoor tasting and were happy with all tastings except the cherry (too sweet). We ended up buying 15 bottles of assorted reds, whites, and fruit wines. Great experience and will be back! read more

What a treasure to have a great winery so close to home, we have been wine club members for a few years its such a great deal for anyone who loves wine. The building and experience will have you forgetting your in the middle of a very busy suburban area. They make many great wines, they maybe most well known for their fruit wines...which are awesome they have won many many awards for their more traditional varietals. We decided a few years ago that which such great wine all around us in Illinois and Michigan that we would only buy and drink local, I don't feel that we are missing anything. I'll admit, my winery experiences are very limited... however the customer service and visits I've had here have always been excellent. A small local winery that specializes in fruit wines, it's surprising to find it located in a town like Roselle. During our very first visit, we were able to taste anything that was open with no pressure to purchase at all. The samplings provided us with a chance to understand what type of wine we would really enjoy, and what would be good for gift giving. Favorites among friends and family have been the peach and the cherry wines. Their fruit wines are extremely affordable ($10-$15), and an excellent treat. If you happen to visit during the holidays, make sure to get a taste of the Christmas wines (white and red), as they are a delicious served warm. For a fun piece of trivia... Charlie Trotter has selected a red wine from here as one of his favorites to pair with some of the foods he serves at his restaurant downtown... while the name escapes me, the staff will know which it is if you're interested in trying it. read more

I was first introduced to this great establishment during a wine tasting @ Tasting Devine by Marissa G...thanks again! We headed over on the last day of Oktoberfest and were greeted by an amazing fall day filled with grape spitting & stomping contests, a live band, pig roast, and refreshing wine (Oktoberfest wine being my ultimate fav!) Food and wine can be purchased by tickets ($1/ticket and a suggested $1 donation). It's definitely a family friendly atmosphere, so feel free to bring the rugrats. The grounds of Lynferd Winery are small, but the energy could fill a whole football field. The buliding which houses both a bed and breakfast, a small tasting room, and a gift shop is beautifully adorned with ivy by mother nature. Go ahead and try NOT to take a picture...it's too good to pass up! read more

My photography group went to Lynfred for a tour/tasting/photography outing. This was my first wine tasting/winery tour. Overall it was nice. There were only a few wines I really like, but since I was more there for the experience than the wine I wasn't disappointed than others. I did like their Chardenel and Strawberry wines. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a very good job at working with our group (nothing like guiding a tour where most are there for the photo opps before the wine itself). All in all, if you're looking for something different to do one weekend (and you're 21 and over) I would highly suggest Lynfred Winery. read more

Wine & Friends on a lazy Sunday was the plan. I had a Groupon for a wine tasting and tour for 10. They were great at scheduling and quite flexible. When we got there, I told a bonde lady at the front desk that I was here for the tour and that I am still waiting for 2 people, but they would be here shortly. She said that was fine and that she would go get our tour guide. I let here know we would be waiting in the store area. My friends all arrive less than 5 minutes later and we wait for nearly 30 minutes. I go back to the front desk, not to the same person as she was gone, and let her know the situation. She said the tour already left and that we had missed it. At this point I was extremely annoyed as it was so unorganized and we just wasted 30 minutes of our time waiting. She said we could start the tasting now while they figure out the tour. We start drinking at the two tiny "bars" that they serve their wine selection from. 15 minutes later someone tells us they can give us the tour. The tour was very short, maybe 10 minutes, granted the facilities are tiny. The plus was the wine and the flavored breads they had. I would go back to buy their wines, maybe, but not do do a tour again. It was crowded with very little seating to sit down while doing your tasting. read more
