Randy had checked me in during my first stay and even provided me with a breakfast voucher and acknowledged me as an IHG member. This time my stay started out very upbeat because Randy checked me in recognized me as a valued guest and instantly upgraded my room type to a suite and placed me on the 4th floor with huge windows and ample natural light. After Randy left though everything sort of went downhill. I enjoyed my upgraded room for two days in a row then the front desk clerk said I had to downsize to the next room and I rushed to transfer my belongings to the next room which was much smaller but still quite nice. Yesterday a new front desk woman named Carly welcomed me and tried helping me with a lower rate but unfortunately she made a mistake with my card on file and hopefully the extra charges will be deleted by my bank this Monday. This morning at 11am Carly called me with a very strange tone and stated I must transfer my service dog and cat to the first floor and I have to come downstairs immediately and pay for the new room on the first floor. I must say I was genuinely shocked with her abruptness and urgency and asked if I could switch floors tomorrow instead but she stated the General manager "found out" I was on the 4th floor by mistake and pets are only allowed on the first floor. I feel I was deceived though because this was the third time I visited the property and I was never forced to stay on the first floor. My stay here was exhaustive like a game of musical chairs and I went downstairs and asked if I could insert my physical card in the machine rather than have her charge the card on file automatically and that's when things escalated and she said I should just leave the property and check out or she would call the police on me and they would escort me out of the premises in handcuffs. I kid you not I am not making any of this up. I asked if I had done something wrong and she insisted she has the right to ask me to leave she doesn't need a reason. She then started raising her voice to me and repeatedly called me Mam I guess to dehumanize me. When the police arrived I had one cart filled up with my belongings and they asked me what happened and she had lied to them and said I had made a scene in the lobby and using her words "cussed at her". One thing about me I don't respect people who lie. They obviously didn't like my presence at their property and didn't respect me as a human being with feelings but I draw the line when it comes to slander and fake police reports. The police treated me with kindness asked to see my room and stated there was no damage to the hotel's property whatsoever. I stated i.had never yelled profanities at her either nor had i made a scene. I am simply in between apartments and with two pets and this treatment was traumatizing to me. I would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy and they should not label themselves as pet friendly since they don't offer pet amenities and force guests to stay on the first floor. Would never repeat my stay here. Too much drama and bad vibes

Unfortunately, my arrival at the hotel was a bit rocky due to a delay of more than four hours in my flight, and I did not arrive at the hotel until approximately 1:30 am. Fortunately, I was able to quickly complete the checkin process, and my room was available upon arrival, which was a huge win after what had been a very long travel day! The remainder of my stay was fantastic. The hotel was extremely quiet during the entire week of my stay, and that helped get a lot of rest after the long days I experienced at the workshop. My room had a fantastic layout, with a separate sitting area that contained furniture, a small refrigerator, and an office desk, perfect for doing some work in the evenings and early mornings! The bedroom had window door style that allowed you to have your own private space, and there was also direct access to the bathroom from the bedroom. Complimentary breakfasts were served at the hotel each morning, which was a big plus for me during a very busy week! There were many different items to choose from, including scrambled eggs, bacon, muffins, bread which you could toast, bagels, and a waffle machine. I enjoyed having many choices, and it was nice to be able to quickly pick something to take with me as I headed out for the day. The breakfast area was large, and there was always plenty of space to sit and eat. One of the most enjoyable things about the week was on Wednesday when the hotel held a complimentary happy hour for its guests. They provided a wide range of foods to enjoy, including salads, soups, and desserts such as brownies! This was wonderful for the hotel to host and it gave me a wonderful opportunity to grab a quick bite to eat for dinner on Wednesday! One of the other highlights of the stay that I thought was particularly beneficial was the shuttle service. The hotel offered transportation to and from the workshop location each day, which made getting around very easy and worry free! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Downers Grove Chicago. The quiet rooms, the comfortable design of the room, the excellent quality of the breakfast, and all of the thoughtful extras, such as the happy hour and the shuttle service, made the entire experience truly amazing! Marriott purchased the building in December 2010 and renovated it when purchased. Being a former resident of Naperville, I frequent this hotel for various events-- weddings, birthday parts, religious events, etc. With that said, this is the first time I have stayed at this hotel. The lobby looks the same as I recall. There are some slight modifications: the addition of a Starbucks, the check in counter moved, and some decor differences. The lobby is not really inviting: it's a mass open space that is dark and littered with a lot of furniture. The lobby could use some updating again to make it a cozy sleeky environment that you want to grab a drink in. So how are the rooms? Being an ambassador with Marriott we were treated to an upgrade. The room was very big with a seating areas as you walked in. Plus we were provided a welcome gift that consist of a small bottle of alcohol, chocolate pretzels and a note. It was a nice welcome gift. The bed was super comfy with the blankets-- part of the marriott collection. The room had everything one could need for business purpose-- good side desk, ample seating and storage areas. The bathroom was a good size as well- the shower had good water pressure and was hot. The room good use a good update to make it a bit more modern. The room seemed outdated but was clean. We were offered free breakfast-- first of all the breakfast areas needs some updating. Like the lobby and bedroom, no work has been done on this hotel since the initial renovation from Marriott. So again, the space was dark, the chairs were damage and just not an inviting seating. The food was ok, nothing was beyond average. Our table setting had two dirty items- my juice glass had lipstick and the creamer had something floating in it-- yuck. The server addressed it right away. The staff was very attentive in the restaurant-- thank you for your service. I would not pay to eat here, but given the meal was free-- it was good enough. As for parking-- the hotel has a very large convenient parking lot. The hotel is a good location to access the highway or to get to downtown Naperville.

The breakfast changes slightly day to day, but it includes meal options for just about every palette. The rooms are pretty spacious and they are kept in a clean condition. Here are the negative points about this hotel. First, none of the rooms have a microwave. Everyone, is expected to share the microwave that is in the cafeteria area. Not only is it an inconvenience iff you have to warm up food, but not everyone will clean up after themselves. Far too often the microwave was filthy. Second, the customer service was not always friendly or professional. One hotel worker in particular was often extremely rude with customers over the phone and in person. Comments like; " I don't care if you're checking out early", or "I'm sorry but we will not be cleaning your room" should not be a part of anyone shop is supposed to be in the customer service/ hospitality industry. Lastly, the rolling blackouts. On several occasions during our stay the hotel lost power temporarily. This may have been attributed to the heavy thunderstorms we experienced in Illinois, but too often the lights would go out and then come back on a few minutes later. Not only was that frustrating, there were kids running around the hallway yelling at 2-4am (kids running both days Saturday and Sunday at these times) and the room next to us must've had so many people in the room slamming doors and arguing at 2-4am as well!!! We couldn't understand where are the adults of these children just running in the hallway between 2-4 am! I swear never again to come here! The guests just blew our minds. Etiquette do not exist. After a flight delay and driving through a snowstorm, I arrived late, and was VERY lucky to hit the Target next door just as they closed (10pm). So I was able to grab food and drinks for the room. My room was road facing, and I didn't need to be in the main building, so when I asked to be moved the next morning... it was "no problem!". How often do you hear that? So then I settled into a top floor room in building 4. I never heard a sound for the rest of the trip. I know the hotel was full, but you didn't see people congregating anywhere and there was plenty of free parking. This is not a fancy hotel, just know that, it's not intended to be. But it was clean and comfortable. I also felt safe - I will add that as a female solo business traveler. I was worried when I saw some of the other reviews, and I can say I have no idea what they are talking about. Last mention- the free breakfast is fine, you can take an extra plate to cover your food and bring it to your room, along with a coffee with a sleeve and a lid.
