I booked a stay here for my boyfriend's birthday, and overall, we had a pleasant experience. The location was nice, but the parking situation was a bit challenging. The lot was quite small, and I wish the parking spaces were designated for specific rooms. The room itself was really nice, though the stereo system and TV could use an update. The remote had options for Internet TV like Netflix, but selecting those options just brought us back to Blu-ray. This was a minor inconvenience since we weren't there to watch TV, but to enjoy each other's company and the many amenities Sybaris had to offer. We particularly enjoyed the heated pool, steam room, and Jacuzzi. These amenities made our stay enjoyable and memorable. I would definitely book here again. The night went by so quickly, so next time I'll be sure to book for an early check-in and a late check-out. read more

My fiance booked a 2 night stay over the weekend here as a surprise. We were both excited for the trip. The excitement started to deminish when we got to the location. The buildings looked old and not very well kept. We decided to check in and hoped the inside would be better. The office, where you check in, wasn't bad so we were hoping the suites / rooms / whatever you want to call it wouldn't be bad either. We get out key and what number we're in and drive to the parking space by it and we start to get our suitcase out and head into the room. The room was not what were were expecting (and not in a good way). The only nice looking thing was the rose petals on the bed. Other than that it felt like a place you'd go if you were in a horror movie. This was NOT the room he was told he was getting when he booked. Can you say bait & switch? We were told there was ice in the freezer and there was BUT it was in a plastic ziplock bag and the bag wasn't even closed. You could tell it was done to be lazy not because they were trying to be helpful. We would have rather gone to the office with the ice bucket and gotten ice ourselves if that was the case. We were told there would be glasses in there for wine / champagne etc. There were only the indvidually wrapped plastic cubs. We decided to check out the whirlpool. The jets turned off on their own after 5 minutes (it's a button you push to turn them on / off). We would turn them on again and same thing. The whirlpool didn't hold heat well so the water got cold pretty quickly but you can't add any hot water because it will be cold if you try. We then got out and waited a few hours and still no hot water. What's the point of a whirlpool if you can only use it once and for about 20 minutes? When you go to use the bathroom while there, brace yourself because the second you sit on the toilet, it feels like it is going to fall out of the wall. Also the toilet doesn't flush well at all. Why does it take 3 times to fully flush pee away?? There are several areas of paint peeling. I took a picture of one spot but there were plenty more. Also the suites are very close to each other so when the people in the one across from us began to play music, we could hear it very clearly (every single word) as if we were the ones with music on. It got so loud and kept going well past 1 am and and this point we were trying to sleep. We had to contact the front desk and ask if there was anything they could do. They said they'd go over there and ask them to turn it down. The music didn't get turned down. It just completely stopped about 2 hours after that. We ended up canceling the 2nd night there and went elsewhere. We did get refunded for the 2nd night but the 1st night wasn't very relaxing either - too bad we can't get refunded for that night too. We will never be back to this location. read more

The Northbrook company is horrible! My boyfriend and I made reservations 6/7, so they already got their payment, but 6/23 we got scammed and had to close our checking acct and all cards. We were halfway there when my boyfriend called to do the pre check in and they told us they would not let us keep the reservation because we didn't have our card. We told them we could have the bank call them and verify it was us and they said no. I have never had someone make me feel like they have on top of already having a horrible experience. The manager we spoke with was rude and hung up on us. I will never again try and stay here and I hope no one else gets treated the way we did! My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon week so we really needed this place to deliver, and boy did it. Having stayed twice at Bellamere Suites in Ohio, we are familiar with resort suites and I can say that Sybris executes the romantic getaway perfectly. We had the largest suite with the pool and waterfall built in. The waterfall feature (think large rain showerhead) was a nice touch and provided great ambient noice during our swim. We also enjoyed the jacuzzi that easily fit the two of us without being too large. The room was clean and kept up very well. A couple things that would have been nice are a garage for winter months and better TVs. The one in the room currently was very small and had poor reception. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and if I find myself in Illinois again I'll be sure to stop by. read more

We stayed here for one night and enjoyed all the room comforts. The steam bath, showers and hot tub were wonderful and relaxing. Everything is showing age but is very clean. The technology for our room was a little confusing since we couldn't get the TV sound to come through the receiver. Overall, the hotel is well maintained but could use an update soon. Fancy expensive hotel prices but expect to feel like your staying at a Red Roof Inn lmao. Outdated, cheap labels on everything, broken hot tub (lukewarm water/no water pressure), and ROACHES. Also, the stereo you connect your music to was absolute garbage, sounded like only one speaker was working... I just can't believe how much they charge for this. We thought we were going to have a nice relaxing stay-cation but turned into a nightmare. Don't waste your money, you'll be more comfortable at home lol. Very cute romantic sweet designed for monogamous couples (two people, only, per room as per their restrictions!). While you'll get less time in the room than standard hotels and the rooms are smaller than standard hotel rooms, the amenities and the romantic features make it worth staying here if you and your partner want a room that's entirely focused on reconnecting in a private atmosphere. Review is over their basic room: their classic whirlpool suite. PROS: -When you first check in, the room will have mood lighting and a local radio station playing for you when you walk in. Room is extremely clean, and most things are single-use items or packaged in clear plastic (such as the robes). -Room comes with its own audio-visual system. You can plug in your phone/Auxillary device to play music over the room's built-in speakers, you can put a DVD to play on the TV, you can play a CD, and many other things with the built-in system. Stickers all over the stereo help to make it as easy as possible to operate everything. -Lots of bonus/romantic items to make your stay particularly unique here. The hotel provides in-room-use robes, a swing that attaches above the bed, toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, coffee, etc. You can also purchase rose petals to be spread throughout the room as well as other in-room packages to make your arrival even more special. -Hotel provides in-room menus for delivery options that will deliver to the hotel. Enjoy the limited amount of time you have in the room and have someone else bring you food! -You're going to love figuring out the lighting here. Each one of the light switches has like three/four switches and dimmer items on it. It seems that each individual light bulb can be dimmed or turned off. If you're really into "mood lighting", you're going to love this. -Parking is going to be literally right next to your hotel. As all of the hotel rooms are individual buildings with their own doorways for maximum privacy and sound protection, you can park right next to your front door. Less-fun in inclement weather to walk to and from your car, but totally worth it as long as the weather is nice. Dinner deliveries will come straight to your door as well. -Bed is so damn comfy. Probably the best hotel bed sleep I've gotten in awhile. -TV is a bit hard to view from the bed, and there isn't much seating outside of the bed. I'd imagine that most people who rent this suite aren't here to watch TV, though, so it's a minor complaint. -Rooms are relatively well-insulated. Our "neighbors" were playing some loud music that could be heard when we opened the door to get delivery pizza, but once the front door was shut, it was entirely quiet again. -Room DOES have a coffee maker and refrigerator. No microwave that I remember. Also has that stereo system and a clock radio. No "fancy" lamps or anything with plug-ins in the bases, so you'll have to go the old-fashioned way and find wall outlets to charge your phone. -It does have free Wi-fi, I believe. CONS: -A bit more paperwork at check-in. You'll need to sign liability waivers, agree to some rules (only the two of you in the room!), and such. -No windows in any of the rooms. Clearly, this is for privacy. At the same time, it's definitely a really odd experience to wake up in the morning with zero natural sunlight. If you tend to wake up with sunlight, make sure to set an alarm or you might go over the checkout. -We couldn't figure out how to turn off the lights in the hot tub, so we ended up having to cover those with a towel for sleeping. -Room is a bit dated in spots. For example, one of the corner siding pieces was being held on by a piece of clear packaging tape. None of the dated aspects affect use by any means, and everything is in perfect working order, but it's just something you'll notice. -Bathroom isn't entirely sealed off from the rest of the room. If you need to take care of personal bathroom things, anyone else in the room can hear what's being done in the bathroom. -Room gets VERY hot with the hot tub filled with hot water. Since the room isn't very ventilated and it's relatively small, the room's mirrors also get fogged up really easily. We ended up having to open up the front door and let some of the chilly air in to get the room under control. -Check-in is 6PM. Check-out is 11AM. This is a particularly shorter timeframe than a lot of "standard" hotels - especially assuming you and your partner might want to sleep in after staying up most of the night. They do offer late checkout (3PM, I believe?), but it was an extra $50 charge. read more

We had a lot of fun staying here. Polite staff, the rooms were clean. We stayed in the Majestic Swimming Pool Suite. Some additional details on the room: there are two mini fridges (one upstairs, one downstairs), double sinks and hair dryers, a bidet in the bathroom, in addition to the standard shampoo, conditioner, shower caps there are also toothbrushes and mouthwash. The highlights: Having your own pool rocks. It was awesome. Plenty of seating, a variety of lighting options. Hot tub. 'nough said. The warped mirror above the bed that slims you down. Thank you! Can I replace all mirrors in my life with these? Everything really is arranged to encourage couples to focus on each other. It was really relaxing, fun, and romantic. I'd come back for an afternoon anytime. The con: The bed: if you have a bad back like I do, I would not recommend staying the night. Come for an afternoon, or even two afternoons, but do not sleep on that bed. Ouch. I made my chiropractor squeeze me in same day we left. This is where it lost a star. The weird: All that yellow light. I know dim is romantic and sexy, but some of the lighting was a little too yellow/orange. So when it got a little too 'cave' like, the lights downstairs and the lights behind the bed were the most 'white' and we just used those. The 'Majestic Waterfall' which was more like a giant shower head covered with some fake leaves. The pool was way more fun with that off. I just found it annoying. The sinks and mirrors are in the bedroom rather than the bathroom. I don't get it. Overall: It was great. I'd recommend it to any couple looking to have a little 'us' time. read more

This location (Downers Grove IL) has made me never want to stay at a Sybaris again. I stayed at the Northbrook location and was very happy with my stay. I had to stay at the downers grove location because the Northbrook location was full. I was so disappointed. The parking was tight, pool was half the size, scuffs scratches on tables, shower head coming out of the wall, holes in the ground, broken paintings, ghetto bath stopper, no sex swing,and plastic cheap cups. They tell you that all Sybaris are "similar" but I beg to differ. When I was checking out the lady asked how my stay was I said ok and she handed me coupons and sent me on my way. We always have fun at Sybaris. The Downer's Grove location is a bit of a hike for us but we had a good deal so we hunted for nearby food options for dinner pre- and brunch post- so we learned some of the area. A bit "meh" but whatever... The Deluxe Whirlpool Suite is the way to go. (The pool suite sounds good in theory but always something makes it come up short of expectations). The added spa set was very convenient as well. You should not feel bashful (or self pressured) at all about staying here. All staff are friendly, helpful, matter of fact, professional and after your first stay (which includes annual membership dues), check in is a breeze. This unit was updated compared to previous stay in basic suite. Instructions for how to work all the steam and shower fixtures are posted and clear and everything worked great. Lots of lighting options, if not a hundred switches, are available. Wi fi and Bluetooth speakers (through the massage chair!j worked great. No closet , hooks or drawers for clothes but there was a luggage stand. Fun for an occasion or just because. Even weekend price isn't that bad if you factor in that you basically have a rockin' studio apartment with fridge, microwave, ice, coffee maker, eating area, "fireplace", ... read more

Stayed in that Paradise suite. Ohh where to start. Well when you first walk in you may be overwhelmed with the smell of the chlorine. However after a few minutes you will get used to that. Looking around you may marvel at the 80's inspired furnishings complete with one of those waterfall electric "painting" that is supposed to make you think the water is moving. I really wanted one of those as a child but I'm afraid I grew out of that. You would also notice a plastic vine stapled to the wall which was falling off in a few places. Also the vine and the plastic leaves on the center waterfall could have used some serious dusting. As for the condition of the room we were in... well it was falling apart. Add to that it wasn't cleaned properly. Once the pool and tub began to heat up the steam revealed a womans shape pressed into the glass that separated the sleeping area from the pool. While at first amusing it had me questioning what else wasn't cleaned properly. Moving into the pool and attached tub we were reminded of the chlorine smell we encountered when we entered. The pool was filled with so much of the stuff that it not only burned the eyes but you could feel it on reacting with your skin. I can only assume someone knocked over a jug of it into the pool while cleaning. After a short time we moved to the "steam shower" to find that the steam did not work. The fixtures were also leaky and spewing water from the wall as well as the nozzle. Ignoring all this we retired to the bed which, i swear to god, was made of plastic. Never mind that it was noisy as hell if you moved, it breathed about as well as you would expect of a shower curtain. This was the last straw. We packed up our things and left that night. Total elapsed stay was somewhere around 3 hours. There are other places like Sybaris who cater couples. I would STRONGLY encourage you to look them up and go there instead. read more

This is the second Sybaris location my husband and I have been too and it didn't disappoint. Although the decor seems a bit outdated, the pool, jacuzzi, and bed are great! Why not 5 stars? I'm confused by the $30 membership fee. Why does it exist when it seems to give you no discounts or perks at all? It seems to be another way to get more money for already pricey rooms. read more

The room was so clean when we got there and everything looked to be in great working conditions. My only small tiny complaint was that the massage chair wasn't working but we did let the staff know and they apologized & told us that maintenance would check it out but no big deal to me. Everything was great, there's also a couple places to grab a bite around there so it's either walking distance or like a two minute car ride. I love the Sybaris hotels themselves and I loved the service I received at the Northbrook location, but the Downers Grove location needs new personnel immediately. My mother booked a night at the Downers Grove Sybaris for my husband and I as a gift for our 6th anniversary, and 20 minutes later, they called me to verify that she would be attending when we checked in. I said no of course she will not be, but they said she had to. This was confusing, considering that in January 2020, we checked into the Northbrook location without her present, even though she paid for the night, and she gave them verbal permission over the phone and I brought her credit card with us, no issues. But when I requested this, the customer service person declined. So, then I asked if it was okay if I checked in early, since I would have to drive my mother there and back home prior to checking in, she said nothing and then transferred me. The general manager for the Downers Grove location got on the phone extremely rude, and when I tried to explain that we live far from the hotels and that driving her would be inconvenient, he cut me off mid-sentence and said "let's just get through this as quickly as possible, it is not my problem that you don't have a credit card", this response was completely unprofessional, insulting, and shocking. I could not fathom the fact that somebody could become a manager with so little people skills and so little respect, and for the record I do have a credit card dumb***!!! read more

I am a lifetime member and have been frequenting this location for almost ten years. It is always clean, the staff is helpful and professional, and they don't make you feel in the least bit or uncomfortable. The TV commercials may make Sybaris look cheap or sleazy, but it isn't at all. Recently, I was most impressed with the customer service when they looked up an old gift certificate for me. They were able to locate it, and provided a level of customer service that surpassed my expectations. My husband and I got the whirlpool deluxe suite, we used a 50% off coupon. It ended up costing around $220 with taxes and the membership fee. The room itself was nice, plenty of room. It did seem kinda 80's with the decor but not a huge deal. I like how they have the music and mood lighting on for you already when you walk in. The room was clean, what was strange was all the labels on everything. Every light switch and faucet was labeled so you knew what it did. The reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the steam shower didn't work. It was just a regular shower, even after waiting the 20 minutes the front desk said it would take to steam up, it didn't work. My other complaint would be the tv. For the price we paid I would have expected more than 10 channels, most of which were MeTV or in another language. Overall, I would go back but maybe to a different location. read more

If I were you I would book with Glenview! That is who I had my first experience with and the room was amazing!!! The receptionist was upbeat and super sweet. I accidentally booked with this location for the second time and it's a COMPLETE downgrade for the same type of room. Don't lower your experience going to the wrong location. I am so sad. We had to wait to get the right remote for the room. I feel like I wasted my money coming to this location. They really should invest in making the rooms the same. Receptionist didn't even seem happy with her job but since we paid, we just have to make the best of it. I just hope you don't waste your money like we did. read more

My husband and I stayed the night in the "Majestic Swimming Pool Suite". What a treat! The room was amazing. There is truly nothing like swimming in your own private, warm pool!!! This room is a two-level private-entrance suite. Immediately as you walk in is the swimming pool with a fireplace next to it. The pool, as I mentioned, has a waterfall that showers you with delicate drops of rain and is heated (according to the website, it is 92 degrees... very pleasant!) Across the room, on the other side of the pool, is a rather large steam shower, which was another one of my favorite features. The room is covered in wood panelling with a wall-length mirror on one end. The second level is the bedroom, and the layout couldn't be more perfect! The bedroom overlooks the pool room... one whole side of the bedroom is a glass window and almost every part of the pool room is visible from there. Right in front of the glass window is the jacuzzi tub, which itself is within arms reach of a second fireplace. The bed is very soft and comfortable, and above it is a mirrored ceiling. The bedroom comes equipped with a refrigerator, XM satellite radio, stereo system, and TV with some "romantic" movies (in case you haven't figured it out by now, this place is not somewhere you'd bring your kids!) Our suite did not have the message chair, the attached garage, or the waterslide (the Downer's Grove location does not have that particular suite, which is called the "Chalet Swimming Pool Suite") but there were so many amazing amenities, especially for the price, and the suite was very clean and comfortable. We will definitely be going back! read more

I stayed here over the weekend for a 4 hour afternoon stay. We had never been here before and wanted to see how we liked it before plunking down money for a full nights stay. Well, we loved it! First of all, the place was immaculate, everything was spotless. We stayed in the Paradise pool suite. The room was fairly small but totally fine in size. The pool was a perfect warm temperature, the hot tub felt great, the steam room was ok for awhile (not necessarily my thing for too long). There are a bunch of different lighting options, which was kind of fun to play with. There was a TV in the room and another in the pool/hot tub/steam room area. There's a fake fireplace in the room which gives nice ambiance, but doesn't seem to throw off any real heat. Sure we all know what goes on there, but it's actually also a lot of fun to have all of those amenities all to yourself and to run around trying everything out. It's almost like a sensory experience because there is no windows and you're in your own little love cocoon. We will most certainly be going again for a whole nights stay. The reason for taking off a star in the rating is that the room itself was really cold for at least an hour or more. After coming out of the pool and hot tub into the room, it was really cold. We couldn't really use it for at least an hour or so after we had come out of the pool area with wet hair and such. We had the heat cranked but it really took too long to warm up. It eventually did warm up, but still not to the degree that I would have wanted. This is the oldest location so I wonder if there was a draft that needs to be repaired, or a heating issue. Regardless of this, it was a really positive experience. We had such a great time we forgot to inform the front desk of the problem. We would definitely go again, but may try another of their locations next time. read more

Went for the first time last night. We stayed in the Paradise Suite. It was fantastic. I was smiling the entire time, and I did not want to leave this morning. We're already planning another trip. It was clean, which was, of course, my biggest concern. It was so relaxing and a good time to spend time with my boyfriend with no phones or connection to the outside world. My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. It's so relaxing and romantic! We always make a night out of it by going out for dinner someplace close - picking up a bottle of grey goose and renting the cheesiest "scary" movies we can find. It's just a great little escape for the night! It is definitely expensive but you can check around online and usually find some discount codes if you're booking online. We'd come here every month if we could afford to - but once every 6 months or so works. I'd also like to add that the place is always clean (granted I've never brought a black light to really check)...but I'm sure it's at least as clean as the average hotel. read more
