I attended a good friends 50th Birthday Party here on last week @ EB. It's the most beautiful and elegant banquet hall that I have been to in awhile. I was in an awe the moment I walked inside this place. Nice formal sit down dinner setting. This place looked like you were in royalty. If you ever need a nice and extravagant place to host an event. I would highly recommend EB. Nice atmosphere very spacious and the ambience is laid back. The food was decent. I wish that I could of enjoyed it a little better. The servers at our table kept walking around grabbing our plates off the table. We weren't even able to finish our meals in peace. When we looked up they were walking around the table ready to take our plates. It was very uncomfortable and rude. But the beautifully decorated rooms and great atmosphere made up for it. Convenient location, nice size parking lot and spacious banquet rooms. Even the Ladies Rest Room was well cleaned and decked out nicely. Everything was PERFECT! We had our wedding reception of 135 people at the Empress on 4/20/24. I know it's rare to say, but everything went perfectly! These folks know their stuff. From meeting with Gus the first day to look at the venue, to calling constantly and talking to him, Bill, and Carmela, to the time we said good bye at the end of the reception, nothing but professionalism and whole hearted care. They treat you like family. Yes, it's a business, but they really care about your requests, vision, input, and making the day all about you. The venue was beautiful and the food was outstanding! We served Filet and Chicken and Eggplant Parmesan for the vegetarians. We are still hearing from family and friends how this may have been the best food they've had at a wedding. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious. The dessert table was to die for with such a great variety of sweets. And the cake, which was included in our package, was amazing! The service was impeccable. Although they had two other events going on at the same time, you would never now it by the care they provided us. They were checking in with everyone on how things are going and paid attention to every detail. When we did our ceremony and then first entrance, Carmela and Olympia came out of nowhere to open the doors and guide us. I was like, wow, how did they know and get there so fast?!?! The location was also perfect. We had family and friends coming from all over Chicagoland (Tinley Park, Mokena, Huntley, Northside, Southside, and the City). They all said how easy it was to get there. It's right in the middle of I355, I290, I90, and all the major streets like Rt 83, North Ave, etc. I want to commend Gus, Bill, Carmela, Olympia and their entire staff on making our wedding memorable for everyone. I always drove by this venue and didn't think much of it, because I thought it was just your ordinary banquet facility. Until, now. Its not ordinary at all. It was the perfect venue to celebrate my sister and her husbands 40th wedding anniversary with a DISCO theme. The room was beautifully decorated. They had a lounge area in the banquet room. I don't even want to call it a banquet room. It seems too chic to give it that archaic name. So I prefer to call it a private dining room. Anyway, it was beautiful. Whether you are celebrating a wedding, birthday, shower, anniversary, corporate event or just to celebrate life, this is a place to consider. * Venue is amazing * Staff were amazing * Food deliciously amazing. For the second year we had the annual reunion of our travel club on Tuesday evening at Empress, Steve and everyone else there when above and beyond to make sure we had a great time! Food was delicious and plentiful all around, option for vegetarians looked very tasty and the ones who chose it said it was scrumptious! The place is very elegant and the facilities are kept immaculate. We also had my daughter's bridal shower in May at Empress and again I can't say enough about how everyone went above and beyond again to make it an unforgettable affair. While planning all three of our events Carmella and Bill at the office made sure to accommodate us in the best manor and truly make the experience seem almost effortless. I feel odd reviewing this as an attendee at someone else's wedding, but anyway...I came here last night for a friend's wedding, and the wedding itself was really fun and lovely. The facility is gorgeous and clean, the bathrooms were pristine, and the drinks were good and strong. However, as some other reviews have mentioned, the service is sorely lacking. The servers seemed to know nothing about the food, as another vegetarian at the table took a mini quiche that she was told didn't have meat by the server, and then promptly set it down when her first bite had bacon in it (fortunately she tested it out before I did, so I gave mine to the carnivore next to me). A different quiche came around and we asked whether there was meat in it and the server said she didn't know. That one turned out to be just cheese, so it would have been fine for us. The appetizers never really made it full circle, as I saw some caprese skewers that part of our table got but not everyone, and I had been waiting for those as the only thing I knew I could eat. Yet somehow the pork bites on a stick made it to our table about 12 times. When they brought out the soup, I asked what kind it was and the server said "chicken", so I didn't take any. Apparently it was actually broccoli cheddar, so it would have been fine (unless it was made with chicken broth, which is possible I guess and maybe why she said it, but I think she legitimately had no idea what kind of soup it was). We had been given the choice of vegetarian or chicken for dinner when we RSVP'd, yet they never asked who ordered what, nor did we have specified places at our tables, which is odd. I've never been to a wedding where they don't quickly check who ordered which option. The server gave me the chicken dish (despite me asking her all night whether things had meat in it), and when I told her I ordered vegetarian she looked really confused. Eventually she brought me a vegetarian entree about 5 minutes after everyone else at our table had been served. The oddest thing, though, was how quick they were to remove glasses that we were still using. Almost everyone had their water glasses taken away, even when they weren't empty, and they never brought new pitchers of water out when our table pitcher was empty (which is weird when there's an open bar and people should stay hydrated. I ended up having to go to the bar to ask for water 3 times because they kept taking my water glass whenever I got up, even when there was still water in it). They put bottles of wine on the table before dinner, yet immediately after dinner they took the bottles back, even when there was still a glass or two worth of wine left in them. Someone at our table grabbed the bottle back and was like "We're not done yet." Several of us had to physically hold onto our glasses that we were still drinking from to prevent them from being taken. And it wasn't like this was an end of the night/last call thing. This was at like 7 or 7:30 when the reception was scheduled to go until 11:30. They were quick to remove plates, too. My friend was turned to me in conversation and the server took her salad plate from her other side without asking her, and there was still 3/4 of the salad left on the plate and I don't think she was done. It was still another 10 minutes before they brought out the next course, so it wasn't like the entrees were going to get cold waiting for people to be able to eat their salad in peace. The food was okay...a little salty. It was very hot, so I'll give them that. The salad was mostly romaine lettuce (which a lot of us were sitting there googling whether it's safe to eat romaine again, and someone at our table had fallen victim to it once already right before the recall, so she passed on eating any of it). There was 1 tiny grape tomato and some people got a cucumber while others didn't. The chicken entree had two roasted red potatoes and some greenbeans, while the veg option was eggplant parm (I think? I don't like eggplant so I just ate the cheese off of it) and the 2 roasted potatoes, yet no greenbeans, which made me sad. Everyone agree the cake was the best part (though I don't know if that was an outside bakery or if that was an Empress thing). Another review mentioned having guests stand in the back of the ceremony, and that happened last night, too. I don't think people showed up who said they were "no's", and the seating in the reception hall wasn't an issue, so the last minute scramble to find chairs and set them up in the back of the ceremony room seemed odd. Or, it may have been that the chairs were set up in rows of 5, so there were several rows with empty seats (because most people have a +1 and want to sit next to them). Strange. If you're a vegetarian or vegan, be cautious about eating anything that isn't very clearly meat-free, since the staff doesn't seem to know what they're serving. And be prepared to hold onto your plates and glasses. read more

We had our wedding at the Empress last weekend and it couldn't have been better. People said great things about the food, especially the appetizers. The room was beautiful, the drinks were strong and plentiful, the facilities were immaculate. I had absolutely no stress about the wedding, as far as The Empress was concerned. Gus worked with us on getting everything we wanted, and then they took it from there. My sister wants to have her wedding here, too, and I honestly would recommend it to anyone. read more

Been a long time since I been here...but happy to say it was a pretty grand old time. Food was delicious; augolemono was the soup and a salad followed. For the main course, a small combo plate (i took some pics but the looks i was getting were...weird.) was served with dessert being a scoop of vanilla with a splash of chocolate syrup and w shot of whipped cream. Oh and the service was impeccable. Lots of parking and easy access. A coat check is there if you want to put your coat up, and the places I purused were clean and bustling with activitiy as the other baquet halls were full (3 total) but I am sure the walls are collapsable to cater to bigger crowds. read more

Gus, Billy and Carmella are wonderful people and did everything to make our day special! The service from every Bartender and Waiter was tremendous! AND the food was absolutely delicious!! Our guest have been calling us and telling us it is the best service and food they have every had at a wedding! The cocktail hour and main dining room turned out so beautiful! Gus and team worked with us to make sure every detail was as we wanted! The day was PERFECT and so much fun, which I attribute to all the efforts from the Empress team! My son and his wife decided to go ahead with their planned wedding during this pandemic. We were concerned that everything would come to a halt, but Gus and his staff kept in contact with us and accommodated our needs by the guidelines of the state and CDC. They set up the space with extra room between the tables and more tables in the room. The decor in the rooms is extravagant and is updated in today's colors. I received so many phone calls from our guests who couldn't believe how delicious and abundant the food was. From set up to clean up, they took care of all of our needs like they were taking care of family! I can't compliment or thank them enough for a such a beautiful experience! Empress Banquets is a beautiful venue. The room was amazing, with a large dance floor, fun lighting, and comfortable seating at the large tables. We had a family style dinner, with refills brought as needed. The steak was delicious and so tender, the potato rounds and zucchini were perfect, and I don't know what the sauce was on the pasta, but it was really good. So here I find myself at Empress Banquets. I'm a last-minute decision to be the date for a man who has known about this event, I'm sure, for quite some time. I assumed he had no one else to ask. I knew 2 other people at this wedding, and it was not the bride and groom. When you first walk in, you're impressed. Everything outside and surrounding the parking lot is an eyesore. The foyer and what I would call the front room of the building is beautiful from floor to ceiling. Perhaps it was done this way for people to take wedding photos. Even the bathrooms are clean and with all the latest design and technology. I believe there were staff members going in there to make sure paper towels were stocked and perhaps to keep the counters around the sinks dry. In contrast, the banquet room seemed, like all other reception events, way too dark to even see the food sitting in front of you. I have never been sat in the "vip" areas of a reception hall so therefore I always end up shoved into the corner, where I can barely see anything going on, and therefore left feeling uninvolved and uninterested in what's going on. The centerpieces were beautiful, but they did not cast enough light across the table. They definitely blocked your ability to see everyone sitting on the other side. Not that it mattered. I didn't know anyone. The pieces were 3 wide glass cylinders, 3 different heights, filled with water. Inside, the event planner submerged a fresh long-stemmed flower and topped it off by plopping a floating candle on top. Apparently this is the hottest thing to do, and sold at Pottery Barn. The rest of the lighting in this room was provided by tacky lavender spotlights, with a failed attempt to add an enchanting flare by hiding them behind thin and wispy white curtains. It might just be me, but curtains are for windows and it just looked odd and very much something you might find in Vegas. All of this was in hideous contrast to the low-grade ceiling tiles used to hide whatever was above them. Some of them were even bowing down from exposure to moisture. That's right, sit me in the corner and this is what I get to contemplate! I would think that any woman getting married, should not have to use her imagination to complete the idea, whatever that is, that Empress Banquets would expect you to put together sitting in that room. One major annoyance was that because of where we were sitting, we ended up right under an air conditioning vent and I had to sit freezing through my entire dinner. Not only that, but I had to eat my appetizers and dinner fast because it got cold so quickly. After the absolute hassle I had to go through to pull myself together in such a small amount of time, I felt completely insulted that a darn banquet hall can't think these things through when they know where the tables are going to be. I really had to bite my lip not to say anything. I think for the money you spend, there are many other creative ways in order to host a reception set in a realistic mood. You know, one where you don't have to pretend. It's your wedding, and your day. You have one epic moment to remember for the rest of your life. If you think that means gathering your friends and family under a purple haze, then be my guest. read more

The space itself is gleaming, and the staff were friendly and professional. We checked out a lot of banquet halls around Chicagoland before deciding on The Empress, and nowhere came close to providing the value that Empress did. We started our search not wanting to have it at a banquet hall--we wanted to find a more unique space--but when we saw the prices at The Empress, and after meeting with Gus, we were sold. Wedding was a blast! I have to say, this place is gorgeous...I will post pictures of the way the room looked when I get them. Truly a lovely venue with an amazing staff. My guests all said that the food was very good--steak was tender and the lobster bisque soup was very tasty! This place is run professionally--everything was set up as it should have been, and the owner was right there on site in a suit making sure everything was going according to plan. The minimal decor they always have is perfect, you can really do it up.. they have gorgeous chandeliers.. the bathrooms are large, great lighting.. maybe 6 stalls a lot of counter space.. the hall is nice, clean, large.. can accommodate a good lot of people..maybe 400/500 people..parking lot is large as well.. read more

I think the banquet facilities are lovely, but the service during a bridal shower I attended was lacking. The cream of broccoli soup was very hot and tasty and everyone seemed to enjoy the entree which was Chicken breast with a lemon sauce, but I'm not a fan of white meat so I can't judge this. I was actually surprised to see the average of a 5 star review for this place! We attended a wedding here over Labor Day weekend 2012. From the outside it's a nice looking place, for as many tables that were at this wedding, service was pretty quick. Food was just ok. Nothing spectacular. No consistency in cooking of the beef dish just across our table (ranged from bloody rare to medium well). Bathrooms were SO dirty! They smelled like a wet dog and the corners of each of the stalls were filled with dust and looked like they hadn't been cleaned from months. It wasn't isolated to one stall because I felt the need to check others after I was grossed out by the first one. No soap dispensers here. I had my choice of scented dial soaps. Kind of killed the experience of an otherwise nice looking place. Decor once you are inside is nice as well. A little dated from some of the other recent weddings I've attended (it's been at least 4 a year for the last 4 years, so I am pretty well versed on locations about the Chicagoland area). No need for coat check at our time of year, so I can't comment on that. If I were to get married again, would I choose here? No. But would I moan and groan about attending another wedding here? They worked as a team, gladly and efficiently, and made sure ever single detail was tended to! They worked like a well oiled machine and the wedding was absolutely stunning! I came across Empress through one of my friends who had posted pictures of a reception they had attended. I immediately thought it must have been a place in the city. Lo and behold, it was Empress. Perfect for us, it was located in the suburbs which is exactly where we had been looking to have our wedding. We went to five venues, but the Empress stood out. Not only was the location ideal, the ambience was perfect as it was the exact look I wanted. From our initial meeting with Gus, he seemed genuinely interested in meeting our needs and was very accommodating. I was anxious about the food but he offered for us to have a tasting before even signing the contract. It was an easy decision and we immediately signed. As for the day of the wedding, everything went smoothly. The guests commented on how delicious everything tasted down to the soup that was served. It was a relief to hear these positive comments because wedding food is always memorable (especially when it's bad)! We had a large wedding and there was some last minute hecticness, yet his team was patient and understanding through it all. I didn't have to worry about anything and they were so gracious in handling it all. The venue was certainly beautiful and the pictures turned out great. Empress exceeded our expectations. I was happy with the service and the food the hall looked beautiful!the only thing I was unhappy about was the coordinator Jane who was in charge of our event, she didn't want to be bothered with me once I arrived disappeared and when I needed to ask her where the corsage and boutineer were she insisted the florist never delivered it had to get florist on phone when I had quests arriving very upsetting!!florist confirmed they were delivered pic of everything that was delivered. Jane didn't appreciate that and I didn't appreciate that she would ignore our event so she could meet with another couple who were looking at venues I feel you shouldn't book appointments during events and then totally ignore the event going on she definitely disappointing!! read more

This place it's a gem! I had my daughter's bridal shower at this venue. I was very pleased with the manager/owner Gus, he understood exactly what I wanted. The food was good, the service excellent and the set up very elegant and romantic. All my guest were pleased and impressed. Such helpful and friendly staff -- Thanks to Gus who arranged, and to Bill who helped me, load my equipment for the RRAF Fall Benefit. DELICIOUS food too! Everyone at the table couldn't believe how yummy the creamed broccoli soup was. Then we had our turkey dinner--moist and tender, and such flavorful dressing--(was Martha Stewart in the kitchen?) Easy location to find, close to main expressways, and you step right into a wonderland! This banquet hall gets more elegant every year. Can I write two reviews please? One for service, and one for everything else? Well - since I can't, I'm going to attempt to do-so here, but based on how awful I was treated, I have to bring this down to a one-star level. EVERYTHING ELSE: We attended a Sunday wedding here, and the ceremony was on-site. The room was BEAUTIFUL but there were at least 25 people that had to stand in the back. I'll give the venue the benefit of the doubt - it's possible that the groom/bride didn't request enough seats, but I find that hard to believe. After the ceremony we entered the room, which was in-a-word, breathtaking. The long, white drapes that were flowing everywhere, the lighting, the chandeliers...gorgeous. The drapes ended up being in the way of the speeches (we couldn't see who was talking or the head table), but it looked gorgeous. Two bars is always key and the bartenders were quick with the drinks. Not personable at all - they were just there to do their jobs. Another key was the dance floor - it was huge! Longest dance floor I've ever seen. For this particular wedding, it was great. People had lots of room to dance. At the same time, it never felt packed. Lastly, the food. Most impressive was the sweets table. It was gorgeous and I heard that the treats were great (I was too stuffed to indulge). The happy hour was filled with tons of food, as well. Lots of appetizers were passed around, and there was also a veggie and cheese tray available to pick at, at the bar. The food itself was pretty good. The lemon chicken rice soup was very lemony, but delicious, and wonderful with the crusty bread. The salad was very basic (all lettuce, one cherry tomato), but the dressings were fantastic (balsamic and ranch). For the main course, I had chicken vesuvio and hubby had prime rib. His cut of prime rib was overcooked, but still tender, and my chicken vesuvio was pretty good. I liked that the portions weren't HUGE, and the veggies and mashed potatoes on the side were great. The service is where we get sticky. So, review #2... THE DINNER SERVICE: Immediately upon sitting, someone at the table announced that they thought it'd be a rough dinner based on our server's attitude. He couldn't have been more right. Trying to be helpful, I was always quick to round up several plates and stack them, hand over hard-to-reach glasses, and thank the server for each clearing. However I quickly stopped, after our server literally pumped, elbowed, or hit me after each stop. I then announced that our server had it out for ME. Half-way into the dinner, she walked up and asked a couple at our table if they wanted anything to drink. Since the bar was closed for dinner we found this odd - even more odd that she didn't walk around the entire table and only asked the one couple. When she returned, she walked up to my husband, who also ordered a drink. She then walked past me, and I said "excuse me, can I please order a drink as well?" She looked at me, semi-laughed, shook her head, and said no. Simply that - NO. Minutes later, someone else at the table asked for a drink, and she happily got it for him. WTF?! You deny someone and then take other orders? Our table was shocked. It was horrible, sh*tty service, and our server's just lucky I didn't ask to speak to a manager. Thankfully someone else did, but wasn't half as harsh as I would have been! For the record, our server was a very short woman with short hair and a thick accent. Also, it was my birthday. I had my wedding here. The staff is beyond amazing. Tammy is a lifesaver she went above and beyond for me, she is super patient and sweet!! Any request I made as bridezilla was met. I spoke with gus as well who was very nice and helpful. I had a traditional muslim wedding. They allowed me to cater from outside which many venues do not allow. They even agreed to make masala chai for us instead of coffee. Like I said everything I asked for they made happen. The venue itself is clean and gorgeous the location was central for most of my guests. Highly recommend this venue!! You will not regret it. read more

I just had my wedding at the Empress on 9/30/16. WOW... it was everything and more that I could have ever dreamed of! Vivian and Gus were amazing throughout the whole planning. They gave suggestions and input when asked, and were so pleasant and friendly to work with. The food was absolutely outstanding...guests raved about the steak and stuffed chicken. It was by far the BEST food ever at a wedding, they even had doggy bags for people to take home their leftovers. The details of the wedding were amazing! We had boxes of things we wanted on tables, and Gus and his staff made it look better than I ever even pictured! Absolutely stunning! The waitstaff was so very caring and tending to everybody. The bartenders were amazing, friendly, and fast so there were no lines to get drinks! The upkeep of the Empress is remarkable. The Empress itself, was so spotless, you could lick off the floors and walls, and so many of our guests raved about the cleanliness. There were no scratches, no damage to walls, nothing. It looked like they just remodeled the venue before my wedding, even though it really was a few years prior. I attended a wedding reception at the Empress last weekend and I must say I was not disappointed. The decor was moderately elegant, certainly appropriate for the function. The hors d'oeuvres were splendid and plentiful. The dinner was outstanding and the service was spot on. Our waiter was very responsive and attentive, and was well rewarded in tips. The Dessert table was loaded with enticing and delectable treats. The one thing I would suggest to make the experience of attending a function there even more wonderful, would be to install one or two fans in an out of the way location for dancing fools to cool their heels after twisting the night away! I would not hesitate to recommend The Empress any public occasion. read more

Where to start, the food was fantastic and our guests were amazing at home much they each got. They helped us collect up tables decorations after the reception. We were able to do our tasting just a couple weeks out from the date. They were accommodating with making arrangements for payments. Classy and pleasant all the way. The wait staff and bar tenders were incredibly attentive to the head table and wedding party throughout the night. The head table got our food first and got extra if asked for. read more

Very beautiful banquet hall. I just attended a wedding recently. However the decor was the only thing I liked. I love the modern look, and they nailed it. I had the steak, and tasted the chicken. Both were horrible. read more

Wow what a beautiful banquet hall. The food was delish from soup, pasta salad to main course fresh bread. Service was fast and waiter asked if we needed anything.
