Elmhurst Art Museum - Nice open gathering space inside the museum

    Elmhurst Art Museum

This was the first time that we visited the Elmhurst Art Museum.  Our daughter was invited to…read morepreview the exhibition "Picasso: Fifty Years Later" before it opened to the public, Hubby and I were her guests.  The exhibition focuses more on the influence of Picasso fifty years after his death.  So, other than some nice prints from Picasso, there was artwork from his colleagues and contemporary artists as well.  Interestingly, some of the work from other artists might appear to be even more "Picassoesque" than Picasso's work in this exhibit.  All in all, it was a good show and professionally done.   We met the Executive Director John McKinnon as soon as we entered the museum, who was very friendly and professional, and enthusiastically gave us a brief introduction of the exhibition.  John was also the co-curator of the show.  Katie, the publicist of the museum, was also very friendly and welcoming.  She talked about how proud the artists must have been to be able to have artwork exhibited alongside Picasso's art, and that the Director John even improved the air system in order to meet the requirements of the lenders of the Picasso collection!  I like that both John and Katie are very passionate, enthusiastic, and professional about what they do!   The museum itself is rather small.  It's very clean with professional setup.  It would have been nice if the rest of the museum was opened to explore when we visited on the preview day.  However, nothing was opened except for the Picasso exhibit, even the small gift shop was closed.  There is a sculpture named Skycube in the museum courtyard that is worth visiting.  It is a great spot to take interesting selfie.  All in all, Elmhurst Art Museum provides a good opportunity for art museum-goers in the suburbs to visit without driving all the way to the city, and you don't need to worry about parking, as it provides ample free parking as well!

Great little art museum with amazing exhibits. There is also a little house "The McCormick House"…read moreattached to the museum which has updated themes. You can shop at the gift shop, really interesting items. Most of all, I love the art for sale behind the gift shop.

It feels as if you've walked inside of a really trendy coffee bar. Everyone is super warm and inviting. Which makes you instantly smile. This place is happy and energetic. I loved looking around at all of the different decorations, treats, and treasures. There's plenty of seating indoors or limited seating outdoors. Everything is spotless! And, they're fast, efficient, and no matter what you get it is perfect! It's a great place to go and study, hangout, or sit for an incredible cup of coffee! I had the pleasure of being introduced to this place by Yelp and I loved it! My go to drink is the iced decaf latte! This drink is creamy, dreamy, and delicious. With nots of toasted coconut, deep caramel, and cocoa nibs. Pure perfection! They also have a bar later in the day to try all kinds of in house made drinks. So, if you're looking for a trendy new coffee bar. Come here!

And their tea is amazing! My favorite so far was in the fall, they had a maple flavored tea that was just the right sweetness and tasted like maple syrup without being overwhelming. I went back to buy another bag to gift a friend, THAT good. I tried a charcuterie board, I wasn't expecting to be able to pick my meat and cheese options so that was a really cool surprise. The selections were tasty, and I felt like it was a good value. I forgot to take pictures, but they do a nice looking spread! Every time I've gone, the folks working there have been really friendly and helpful if I have questions about anything on the menu. I've gone during work hours and after hours, it can get a bit busy during the day with people working there but they have a great large back area with plenty of seating - I have never gone and not been able to find a spot to sit. I do wish they had some more comfy seating. The chairs at the tables are all metal, no cushion, so they aren't great to sit on for that long. In the front area there are wooden benches along the walls to sit on, and they do have some pillows you can use, but when you're there with someone and want to sit across from each other, one of you has to take the metal seat. Despite the seating, I still enjoy going - I've gone there to work, to sit and read, and it would be a chill place to setup a small tabletop game and enjoy a couple of hours with some good drinks, snacks, and friends.

I hate to say it but Google Reviews are much more accurate. At 4.4 with 500 plus reviews. That's a big difference. They have a Huge Banquet room upstairs and their own Deli right next door. Both doing a very busy business so they know how to do Italian cuisine. The restaurant itself is a very elegant traditional Italian decor with plenty of seating both cozy and open tables. After some delicious fresh bread with olive oil and freshly grated Parmesan cheese it was time for the main course. Gamberi Broccoli Fettuccine tossed with sautéed shrimp & broccoli in a light garlic & olive oil sauce. Just amazing. The dessert was a very authentic and very traditional made from scratch cannolis with pistachio topping. Melt in your mouth delicious. The experience was amazing with exceptional service. One of the owners herself was the server. And was more than happy to answer all my questions about the olive oil (where it comes from) how the main dish was prepared and in detail described how they make their cannolis. One day I might just try this at home. Lol. Do yourself a favor and read the Google reviews first then Yelp and decide for yourself. I'll be here every time I'm back in Chicago visiting.
