So many beautiful artesanias. Everywhere you look, there are interesting pieces, and the owner Denise is extremely kind, attentive and has a clear love for Mexican art and culture. Luz de Luna has religious art, folk art, Milagros, Catrinas ... pretty much anything you might be looking to add to your collection. I also picked up something from a local artist as well. I am so happy I took a moment of my time in San Francisco to visit the store and I am sure to go back when time allows, whether it's this trip or during my next visit to the Bay Area. I came here to find some older silver rings and was wonderfully surprised. The ladies working here are so kind and kept bringing out more and more rings (tons of different sizes, designs, etc). She helped me look through all the rings and would recommend ones with designs I was looking for. After choosing some rings, they polished/cleaned them and packed them up nicely in bags for me. I don't really know how much the prices compare to other places but the selection and service here are so worth it. Will definitely be back!! read more

Dia de Los Muertos is coming this Monday, and you suddenly realize you don't have your altar ready to celebrate all your dead relatives. That's a bummer, but here's the beautifully decorated store that will be able to help you. However, eye-popping religious artifacts are not all that owner Denise Gonzales offers here although she has plenty of options judging by the elaborate window displays. She sells some dazzling jewelry and colorful clothing as well as native tchotchkes that could fill a mantle if you have a mantle. There's even a cardboard cutout of Frida Kahlo to greet you. I love Mexican arts and crafts and even come here during the holidays to get stocking stuffers. But people always get confused that such lovely south-of-the-border mementos would come from me. a gorgeous shop packed to the brim with Dia De Los Muertos goodies and mini trinkets! So perfect for making micro altars at an affordable price. I love that you can get micro tequila displays for your deceased homie ;D Or a minature skeleton bride riding a bicycle. The store owner is super honest and noticed a very small crack on one of the items I was buying. I told her I didnt care. She insisted it was half off, only $4. What a lovely lady and a lovely place. Very cute little shop that is absolutely packed full of trinkets, clothing, jewelry, gifts, cards and more. We easily spent over an hour inside looking at every little thing. There's so much. What a treasure trove in the heart of Mission. Not only it's a cool gift shop, but more importantly it's a cultural hub/outpost courageously standing up to gentrification. It's a part of the glue that is holding our city together and keeping it one of a kind. Denise, the store owner is lovely, knowledgable, and old school honest. As one of the previous reviewers noted, she points out to any imperfections/wear (expected in most vintage stuff) and offers you a discount even if you do not ask for it. It's a great place for gifts, but my favorite things from Denise over the years are the ones that I was not planning on buying. I collect art and all collectibles I bought from Denise were amazing at an unbeatable price for what they worth: 1. A Blue Angel by one of the most consequential Chicano Muralists in San Francisco (Michael Roman). 2. A wooden Paloma from Mexico (signed). 3. A bust of Santo from Mexico (Kafka's Doppelganger), 4. Mayan Hacha of God Head. 5. Huge Taxco Brooch (signed). Denise knows her stuff and she does this for a living, but her inspiration to bring joy and make people happy make her and her business stand out. I was walking by when I smelled incense from the store. I just happened to be looking for a place that carried lavender scented incense and this place had it. I'm looking for lavender since it's calming and relaxing. I went inside and found the incense and candle section. They had the nag champ brand that everyone carries but they had other choices besides that. Someone working at the store showed me the area where the particular incense I was looking. read more

I told my parents during my travels to Asia that: "should I drop dead when the plane decides to plunge somewhere in the Mid Atlantic or the Indian Ocean - those little dog figurines with flat pushed faces, that looked liked they slammed into a brick wall, that took up all the space in my 'freakin' Scandinavian Design display cabinet - well..... they're not exactly your nickle and dime porcelains that you would find at a dollar store!" In fact, I told my parents if they sold them all together, they could probably get a pair of brand new "Beamers!" :p Nothing too extravagant of course! I don't know how long I've been collecting these suckers, but awhile. In fact, I've collected so many over the years that I have donated them to several Pug rescue organizations which are very dear to my heart. Funny though, I have a mutt. Go figure! When I was savoring my Philz Coffee and exploring "The Mission," Luz De Luna somehow captured my interest. Glad I stopped by inside because they had a ton of stuff and one in particular - THE PUG! How did they know? The owner said it was my lucky day because someone inadvertently priced the pair of kissing pugs lower than its regular price of $25. Their mistake, my gain and so they sold it to me for only $14 a pair. Sweet! It's probably the cheapest pug figurines I've purchased over the years as most of my collections came from Dresden, Meissen, England and the rare ones from Austria (made of pure chalk). The two women who works here are just a delight and WOW - awesome energy. They even boxed my purchase and shared a bit of a story about their business. It was music to my ears listening to both. I feel their sense of passion especially the tale story of the cardboard "Lady" who stands tall and attracts foot traffic on the sidewalk. They said she has brought much luck to their business. If you are looking for that one of a kind gift item, or a collection of hobby that you can relate to, you will most likely find it here. Their pricing is right, and possibly some are collectables, but if anything enjoyable to look at. What's nice about Luz De Luna is that they bring a sense of story to all the products they sell. What a fantastic place for a collection of authentic Mexican and Peruvian wares! It's so fun to browse the shelves of random items from mirrors, to socks, to jewelry and more. Who doesn't need a luchador tortilla warmer? Or some Carmen Miranda socks? It's fun, kitschy, unique and definitely worth a bit of time to browse. Not to mention, the store owner is super nice and friendly and likes to chat, so feel free to tell her your story, or ask her fashion advice. Such a small, but cute store. We were shopping for a gift for my husbands grandpa, who just turned 100 years old. He is very religious so since we were in the City, we decided to go to this store in hopes we'd find something. There were two employees that were really helpful, kept giving us gift ideas and explained the meaning behind each item. You know when you go to a friends house and they have the cutest little nick-knacks all over and you wonder, "where the hell did she buy this cute little thing?" Well she probably bought it here. This place has all the little things you can't find in a department store, making it PERFECT for little gifts for friends. They have evil eyes, feather earrings, unique salt and pepper shakers (I bought the chihuahua husband and wife salt shakers which were SO cute....the girl chihuahua has a diamond on her left paw and they have magnets in their mouths so they kiss when sitting on your table), hats and other really fun things. I bought my boyfriend an evil eye keychain here which was really convenient. Normally I have to wait until a family member is coming from Iran to bring me evil eye stuff so it was nice to see such a great collection of items here. I was bored one Saturday morning and decided to explore a little more of this city I love so much. I was on a mission to find little hidden gems that only locals know of and was so excited when I stumbled upon this store on Yelp. From the pictures, I knew it was my kind of store. Buddhas lining one wall (they actually moved it all next door) and Mexican/latino cultured souvenirs. You can get lost in here for hours just going through all the stuff the owner has. After some exciting discoveries, I had my eye on this canvas of a gorgeous woman who was half skeleton, half human. I was in love! The owner spent a lot of her time telling me about the canvas painting and how the artist brings a lot of his her to her store to sell and I just knew I had to have it. Even though it came with a hefty price tag, I ended up buying it the next day and have been so happy. After I save up some more money, I'll definitely be back to check out all the cool stuff she has. This is the place in the Mission to get your Latin American gifts, clothes, embroideries, decorations, jewelry (not just Latin American either) and gifts and stuff period. Denise, the owner, is just so nice, and she has a huge assortment of stuff. I don't care for all those fussy statues and religious items, but wow, she sure has great huipiles, jewelry (though some is really too expensive), dolls sometimes, blouses, Frida Kahlo stuff, purses, pillows, decorations, and well, you could just spend an hour in there going through all the things. This is eye candy galore. I am glad this store exists. It is hard enough to find Latin American indigenous clothing, as people on yelp have pointed out, unlike finding the food, which is easy. This is because the majority of Latin@s just aren't interested in wearing it, frankly, are ashamed to admit their Indian roots and, too often, actually discriminate against their indigenous brothers and sisters. How ironic, ¿no? My one gripe is that it is too expensive. True, she pays SF rents, which are $$$$$$$ high, but i found out that you can get certain items for 1/3 of what she charges in Mexico where they are made, and that is a big mark up. read more

They have a little bit of everything: scarves, jewelry, wallets, tote bags, decorative masks, and the cutest collection of little chihuahua figurines, skeleton themed items, and a great selection of salt/pepper shakers. I am giving this place 5 stars because the customer service was great, the variety and price of vintage jewelery, and the overall decor of the place was spot-on. I was extremely surprised to find that the jewelery was a reasonable price. Vintage stores usually charge 30-50% more than what the item is worth, even it is one-of-a-kind, they aren't worth that much! However, I bought rings and one necklace which hasn't stopped receiving compliments ever since I left the store, at a great price. The owner was a cute Peruvian lady who is a lover of accessories herself. She is very accommodating to show you jewelery behind the windows and is great at finding your individual preference for accessories because..well... I bought more than I intended. I'm telling you, the store owner is a master saleswoman but she's subtle about it. I'm fine with that :) I wasn't expecting to find such a great store within Mission but that's one of the beauties about that district. read more
