The restaurant was busy but had plenty of staff so the wait time was fine! The menu is excellent! Locally sourced where possible with choices of 2 or 3 course set menus for a very reasonable price considering the quality! I had Cornish sole which was excellent! I went to St Albans Lussmanns last night to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. We were a large party of 11. On arrival we were greeted with such enthusiasm and we felt valued from the beginning. Kelly looked after our large table and she couldn't have done more! Our glasses were always filled, the water was constantly replenished, the food was served in good time, she could not have been lovelier! As for the food....delicious! There were 3 vegetarians in our party who all had a choice of dishes which doesn't always happen! The rest of us enjoyed a varied and very fresh menu. Of particular mention was the onglet steak and the halibut. Overall an amazing night and a big thank you to Kelly for making it so very special, for all her hard work and kindness, for bringing out a birthday cake and for not minding that we stayed so late! read more

LOVE this place! Every time I'm in town, I must stop here for a great meal. Service is always excellent, the servers are very friendly and attentive. We love the ambience and the decor - especially the glass ceiling. Over time, we have tried at least 20 different items off the menu, and it never disappoint! You can opt for al la carte or do a 3-course menu, which you can pick any apps, main and dessert off the menu for £18 - a really great deal. Setting - Open, bright, well aired and spacious with a lovely modern feel. Great setting in my mind. Plants on the tables were a nice touch Service - It was a bit quiet when we arrived so service was good, prompt though not overly enthusiastic. It was a Muggy Sunday though so I can let them off for that. Food - Mackerel starter was nice, light and quite refreshing. Mains was Pork Belly which I found to be tender, tasty and filling with good mash. Crackling was a bit tough though also it was a shame that there was no veg with the meal and I didn't see any option to add any. Desert was a great Walnut Brownie. Not at all heavy and chock full of chocolate chunks and walnuts. All this for £14 which is a total bargin! Overall - Great place and would come here again if I ever get the chance too. read more

Lussmanns, St Albans was the perfect place for lunch on a dreary Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is recommended in the Waitrose Good Food Guide as one of the best places to eat in St Albans and I can see why! They offer a lunch special midday to 7pm with two courses for £12.95 or three courses for £15.95, available weekdays and weekends. For starters I had the Devon cheddar cheese and leek croquettes with a tomato and sweet chili relish (a definite highlight) and pork schnitzel and linguine for main. Desert was a really heavenly sticky date pudding. Washed down with a yummy carafe of Chenin Blanc the whole lunch was lovely experience. Nicely lit, modern fit out restaurant in St Albans town centre. A little hidden away in an off street miny shopping arcade. I had the Rillettes, Burger and Stick Toffee Pudding. The latter was absolutely delicious and comes second only to my wife's cranberry crumble (a Christmas tradition) in knee buckling dessert tastiness. I was surprised to read Stuart G's negative review and urge him to give it maybe one more try as I have been around 4-5 times and it has always been a great experience. read more

Not a place you are going to a. Stumble across - as it's hidden away in a non eventful small square off the high street. And b. If you perhaps fancy taking your chances on a Friday night without a reservation - this place is always booked at the weekend! Step inside this modern spacious restaurant and you will notice straight away that this place is really buzzing. It's set on three floors with the kitchen in full view (for most diners on the ground floor) and the atmosphere is informal and relaxed. The menu is simple honest food with emphasis on the grill, fresh fish, and pasta options. They also source as much local seasonal produce as they can, great wine list too. Now it won't win any prizes for fancy schmancy food, as what you see is what you get. But if you are looking for quality ingredients that speak for themselves, then you have come to the right place. An ideal spot to take someone on a first date, or if the in-laws are in town as it will impress without trying too hard! Good value and great service, most mains being between £7 - £15. Lussmans is my favourite restaurant in St Albans. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is wonderful.

Lovely food and great staff. I went with a very strict vegetarian and despite this being a fish and grill restaurant there are nice vegetarian options. Even the wine and desserts are labelled with a V if suitable which many restaurants tend to overlook. Will definitely be returning soon! read more

Ive been to Lussmanns many times and every time i go it seems to get worse and worse, last time i went they gave me a wrong dish, then when we finally got are main dishes they had all been sent back, either being to cold, over cooked, and i think the food is really bland and uninteresting, i shall not be returning to this restaurant . read more
