I only came here only because the place I was originally going had a long wait. I am so glad I came here instead. Everyone was so welcoming when we walked in. We were able to be seated right away as well. The ambience was exactly where you would go for a quiet evening dinner. Low dim lights which gave very calming and romantic vibe. Our server Patrick came right away and greeted us. Our server Patrick was so funny from the start, I knew right away I'll be having a great experience here. He recommended some wines and foods to try. He at one point stopped us from ordering more food saying he thought we ordered enough, and we had to tell him we were really hungry! Everything we had were all really good. My friend and I split New England clam chowder, and both of us had so many whole clams in them. We ate some sushi pieces, but we ate them before I was able to take pictures. But I can assure you they were all pretty fresh. The Lobster roll was also very delicious and a good portion. I tried the Dynamite Roll (spicy scallop topped with spicy tuna, yellowtail, and tobiko) and Lobster Tempura Roll (lobster, spicy mayo, cucumber, and avocado). Both rolls were pretty good. The food did take a long time to come out, about 30 minutes, when the restaurant was nearly empty (1 star off). I am willing to give the restaurant another try in the future, especially given the large menu of seafood and non-seafood items. They will need faster service to...lure (har, har)...me back in though. read more

While exploring downtown (Michigan Ave.) was looking for something different than the meals I had during the conference I attended. Made a Yelp search and luckily I was only a block away. Very happy with selecting Lure Fishbar. It's adjacent to 21C Hotel. Amanda was my primary waitstaff and she was great. Very helpful and astute to the menu as well as specials. Daily special sounded fantastic, but spicier than I wanted at the time. Went with the Rainbow roll and Lure House roll. Both fresh and very good. I came for the sushi yet the menu, while primarily fish, provides a number of options. Was told to come in the evening for the branzino dish. Sounded great so will make a return. This is a great option when looking for something lighter than many of the heavy food Chicago restaurants. read more

I really wanted to like Lure but it fell flat. We started off with the spicy tuna crispy rice which was really good but that was the only good thing I ate. My sushi roll was very bland and overpriced. We also got a side of fried rice which was disappointing and I think you can get better fried rice from trader joe's. They do fish very well- so far I've had their miso salmon and crispy branzino and both were very very good! The fish and chips were decent, the batter was one of the better ones I've had in chicago. The oysters were a huge miss for me though. First of all, $60 for one dozen is quite steep. And for all of them to disappoint in taste (4 flavors) was just so sad. The smaller briny ones had salty sauces like ponzu so it just made it even more salty. The larger non salty ones had creme fraise and the caviar wasn't salty at all. A big miss here. Rolls were average (good rice ratio and rolled tightly) and the crispy rice sushi was good but I wished the rice was more crispy and hotter in temperature. Overall a nice spot for dinner! read more

One of the worst experiences we've ever had a restaurant. I'm not even sure where to start. First the general manager stops by to ask if we made a reservation. We did, but mystified why he'd come by and ask when the restaurant was empty (and also after we checked in with our last name at the front desk). We ordered a seafood deluxe plate to share, my mom ordered a clam chowder and I ordered a chicken paillard sandwich. - Seafood platter: the oysters and clams were pretty good, tuna tartare was excellent, the shrimp was a little mealy, seen better days. - clam chowder: showed up luke warm. - chicken paillard sandwich: our waiter, who was new, 'fessed up that he put in for the chicken paillard entree by mistake. He apologized and said he'd put in the correct order asap. 15 minutes later, the sandwich shows up without the side of chips. The waiter starts walking away, we ask about the chips and the waiter apologizes again. As we're sorting this out, the GM comes by to ask how our order is even though he clearly saw there was a problem. When we ask for our check, we get the bill in full, without any attempt to rectify the situation. " But there's more. We usually don't give negative reviews because we know how hard the business is, but this was so farcical that we did this time on the reservation system. My husband got an immediate response from "Morgan" a GM of Seven Rooms, the restaurant group, who said she'd get back to us after conferring with her colleagues. She also wanted to know more. We frankly weren't interested in coming back, but he provided some feedback in case it was helpful. When he responded to the same email address Morgan reached out from, his email bounced with a message saying the email address was not valid (what happened to Morgan in the hour since she sent the email?). The next day we got an auto email with a message saying that they were so glad we enjoyed the experience with a link so we could make reservations directly in the future. I brought my parents here to take advantage of some great happy hour deals, and they loved this place! Their only complaint was that it was too dark - not a bad thing though for someone my age! I would say it was unfortunate that happy hour deals could only be taken advantage of in the bar area, but otherwise we had a great dining experience. Had dinner here and it was absolutely AMAZING! We started with the Solo, which is 4 oysters, 4 shrimp and tuna tartare. Everything was so fresh and delicious. It came with three different sauces: cocktail sauce, aioli and a darker savory sauce. We then had the dynamite roll which was spicy tuna and scallop topped with tobiko. It was also so good and fresh. Finally, the sea urchin bucatini was so so good. It was a pasta with a creamy sauce with bits of crab and sea urchin inside. I would have liked more uni inside though, there were only a few pieces on top. It is on the expensive side but the quality of seafood and overall atmosphere definitely matches up. read more

The dinner here was great! Walked in and was warmly welcomed by several staff members. No reservation and still seated after 15 minutes. My wife and I had a lot of food, but my favorite was the steak tartare with straight Blanton's bourbon. The prices are reasonable and the waiters are great. So my fiance spotted Lure on one of her daily walks and it's safe to say it "lured" her in. She made a reservation and last night we went. We sat at the sushi bar, and we LOVED watching the chefs delicately make edible work of art. Their care, attention to detail, mastery, and finesse was awesome to take in over a nice cocktail/beer. Kate was our server and she was wonderful and personable. I had a delicious Sapporo and my fiance had the Not a Basic Beach! Delicious! We HAD to get sushi to start. We went with the Lure House Roll and Hellfire roll. Both were fantastic. I loved the texture of the House Roll but the Hellfire roll had more depth of flavor. I honestly can't decide which I liked more. Both were exquisite and fresh. A little important background info, I am a sucker for bacon & onion jam on a burger. So when I saw that on the menu (even at a place primarily known for their seafood) I had to give it a try. And I am glad I did. I'd like to issue a formal warning to Au Cheval. Someone is coming for the Best Burger crown and it's Lure! The sesame bun was so soft and deliciously fresh. The patty was cooked perfectly to my specifications and juicy. The bacon & onion jam was everything I wanted it to be. Pickles added a lovely tang and texture to the overall product. It was gorgeous. The fries were crisp and beautiful too. Very pleased. My fiance got the branzino and was blown away. All in all, I cannot wait to go back again and try a whole new slew of delicious plates! I think I will be a regular! read more

Super cool ambiance and good music. The tables do feel a bit close together like some of the other reviews mentioned but overall a good experience and cool design. While delicious, this is definitely a pricey spot for the amount of food. I was disappointed with the size of the yellowtail sashimi pieces (they were not severed in the standard size you would get anywhere else and were much much smaller). The rolls were great but again feel they were overpriced (I've had alot of sushi in the city and have had sushi just as good or better for less than 22 dollars a roll.) Weekend trip to see my daughter and wanted to eat seafood, this restaurant came up as a recommendation. She made reservations for an early Saturday dinner. My intent for my visit was to enjoy their seafood options but after peeking at neighboring tables sushi rolls, we changed our minds. The sushi options are diverse and creative. We chose three different rolls and they all were so fresh. The many different layers of flavor meld so well together. I didn't have any kind of sauce with any of the sushi as they are excellent without any additional condiments. This IS the best sushi I have ever had! I went here last night to celebrate my friend's birthday and we had a lovely time. Our server, Pai, was very attentive and patient with us especially with my very indecisive friend. I had Lychee Lemonade (non-alcoholic) and my friend has the Not Your Basic Beach and we both loved our drinks. We loved the lobster tempura roll and lobster mac & cheese. I had the Branzino and it was cooked perfectly and she had the Miso Salmon. We shared the Strawberry Icebox Cake for dessert and ate every last bite. Went to lure the second week It was open and it's evident that the place is still working out some major kinks - the ambiance is super odd, music blasting so loud but really bad music like ancient spa music that is dreary and not upbeat which made It hard to hear even the person sitting across from me. The restaurant is super super dark too with it's dimly lit lanterns and needs a bit more lighting The food was good, but very very overpriced for adequate fish, especially the nigiri pieces. Went for happy hour which is Monday - Saturday 4-6pm. There is wine and sake for $10, beer for $6. We had the oysters which were $24 for a dozen, which were decently fresh. We also had the caviar deviled eggs (recommend!) and the shrimp po boy sliders which were good too. Overview: very pricey for what you get. It's worth a try but anticipate a large bill. I do think there is slightly better sushi places for this price but this is a cute date spot and nice sushi if you are in river north area Vibe and service: it's very upscale place located in the heart of downtown. If you want to dress up a little this is a great place for it. We went on a Wednesday evening around 7:30 and our service was mediocre. The server was nice but not very attentive and it too WAY to long to get our drinks. However, the staff was very friendly and I was with good company and didn't mind the wait. Food -spicy tuna crispy sushi rice: we did the three pieces and they were delicious. It was a different texture than other crispy rice that I've had but we're good. Wish we got more. -Kenai: is a salmon based role and it was my favorite we had. It was fresh, clean and loved the added crisp from the fried shallots. If you loved salmon I enjoyed this one -dynamite roll: it was good but not my favorite of the night. It was heavy and none of the fish stood out on the roll. I honestly couldn't even tell there was spicy scallops on top. It was fine (7/10) -sea urchin bucatini: it was a dish packed full of umami but the amount of crab in the dish was limited and they were shredded into small bites. Additionally, the sea urchin was 1.5 small pieces and the rest tasted like it was made into the sauce which wasn't made clear based on the menu description. It was a good dish to share but just remember you won't be getting a lot of large pieces of crab. It was a nice restaurant but expensive- for good food not great food. If you are in the area looking for a date night or girls night out- this would be a cute spot. read more

Now I should note, I kinda of knew what I was getting into before I ordered, but thought to myself surely it wont just be 1 piece of fish for $11, that would be crazy. Well it's not crazy, this place is delusional on their pricing, but this is on me, and I will never order sashimi here again. Their pricing is almost criminal, so they get docked a star for that. Even though the fish was excellent, it's no excuse for the price. Also, for a seafood forward restaurant that highlights their raw bar, is it too much to ask to get fresh, real wasabi? For my entree I got the Branzino. It was perfectly cooked, with a nice crispy exterior and buttery soft interior. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth and the butter sauce was perfectly balanced and seasoned just enough. I would definitely get this again. All in all a good experience, there are several things that caught my eye on the menu that will necessitate a repeat visit. read more
