The food is amazing. I eat here whenever I travel to Oberlin. The staff is friendly. I have ordered enchiladas, burritos, guacamole, the vegetable seafood soup, and chili rellenos. The portions are large. One appetizer and one entree is enough for two people. read more

Not sure what expectations went unmet to earn. Three star rating for this small Mexican restaurant in Oberlin. Maybe service was inattentive, or the menu was too vast, but for my money, in a region of Mexican restaurants, this one stood out to me. Chips were most likely out of a bag came with a generous serving of salsa. Entrees were served hot and delicious. My chimichangas were delightfully tasty with a cream sauce and a requested verde sauce. The guacamole salad, rice and beans were light accompaniments to the tasty chimichangas. Although they sprang into the Mexican food vernacular from a Scottsdale, Arizona, Mexican restaurant, they can be found world wide including Mexico. The origin story I heard was that a few Chinese workers In Scottsdale were on their way to work eating these roll ups. The owner of a restaurant thought she heard them ask for another chimichanga. When she went to the family restaurant she experimented with roll ups and walla, the chimichanga was born. My wife ordered #53 steak tacos. Again, straight forward the soft taco was covered with garlicky seasoned and salted flank steak. Marinated meat, easy to chew and flavorful to boot, a home run. Their tall Pacifico beers come in chilled mugs with lime. A five star slightly bigger than a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, not too far from home. Ole! read more

Stopped here in a recent trip to oberlin. We've always wanted to do just never had the time. It's a small restaurant, very festive with lots to look at. We were greeted and sat right away and fresh chips were delivered quickly. I really enjoyed the salsa very tasty! The service was fast, friendly and efficient. I throghtly enjoyed the pollo con crema it had the perfect flavor! Portion size was huge! My companion enjoyed her tacos. I'll go back soon I'm dreaming of that Pollo con crema!! read more

Wonderful establishment with endlessly charismatic hosts whether you order in or get take-out. Has gotten me through some rough & rainy Oberlin days. Food is great and while I don't like chips and salsa personally I appreciate that you get some with every meal. Happy hour prices make me smile! And the atmosphere! Ok..... it's been awhile since I've visited Lupita's Mexican restaurant. Once again, the food was ok, nothing to write home about. The hospitality was great, which we all know is a great part of dining out! Last time I was here, I had the seafood burrito, which I DO recommend. Today, I chose the Taco Salad... big mistake. It's contents consisted of ground beef, sprinkle of iceberg lettuce & dollop of sour cream. Ugh! It had lots to be desired. Oh well, I definitely will be back, hopefully find something more delectible on the menu. Mexican food is not my first choice for restaurant fare, but I have eaten here four times and had the same thing every time, the homemade chicken soup. Whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant this is usually what I get, and Lupitas is absolutely the best I have ever had! We went there two days ago and we both had the soup and we both thought it was just so delicious, even more this time than in previous times I've been there. It was loaded with chicken and vegetables of all kinds and lots of avocado and the seasoning was just right, as neither one of us likes things too spicy. Went to Lupita's one night when we needed a real quick bite and a drink. Lupita's was just the ticket with draft Dos Equis and margaritas, with quesadillas to eat. Nothing to write home about, but the drinks were cold and the food came pretty quickly and was hot. Service was very good considering the place got slammed just as we arrived a little after 6 on a summer night (ie no college kids). In fact several small groups came in the front door, looked around, and left right away when they realized the place was full. We had the veggie, the shrimp, and the chicken quesadilla, and the guacamole on the side with the chips. Chips were very good, guac was ok. Of the quesadillas, the veggie and the shrimp were the best, but if you really don't like veggies, know that I didn't detect any on the chicken quesadilla. The margarita that my wife got was strong, and they were kind enough to go easy on the tequila in my mom's drink. I'd have to agree on the restroom issue that someone else pointed out - you have to go outside the dining room, into a shared hallway (remember to bring the restroom key!), and then to the facilities which have seen better days. The restroom wasn't dirty, but I'll just say that it doesn't add to the ambiance to make the trip out there if you can hold it. read more

Gross. I'm from southern Texas and now live in Ohio... this is some of the most disgusting Mexican I've ever eaten. The restaurant is extremely small and it was dirty. The service was poor and sloppy. And the bathroom is in the hallway outside of the restaurant and it was DISGUSTING. Do yourself a favor and don't eat here. Especially if you have kids. We came on a Friday night but despite being extremely crowded with a line out the door, our group of 3 adults was able to obtain a booth within 10 minutes. They remodeled the interior 4 or 5 years ago and it's a very lively/fun/colorful, mexican-themed decor which we appreciate b/c it puts you in a fun loving mood. Kudos for that! We ordered chicken Enchiladas and two orders of Chicken chimichanga. Chips/salsa and then entrees came relatively quickly but sadly two of the entrees arrived at the table cold so we sent back to be rewarmed. Fortunately, our waitress corrected the issue within a few minutes. The entrees were good, not great....just your typical mid-priced mexican food. Unfortunately, they fell down with their margaritas which we ordered on the rocks with salt. They came with woefully inadequate salt (Margs should always be served with a fully salted rim when requested) and as a former bartender and someone who has been drinking margs for over 30 years, i could tell right away that there was almost no alcohol in our drinks. I suspect they pre-make large batches of margaritas and if you get the bottom of the barrel, it's mostly watered down sour mix. We informed our waitress that we could tell there was no zip in our drinks and ordered two shots of Patron silver so we could deliberately address the issue ourselves. The waitress was very gracious and ended up not charging us for the shots so we tipped accordingly. The only other gripe is that every time we go, the dining room feels very stuffy from kitchen heat. They really need to install better ventilation to move kitchen steam away from the dining room. I avoid this restaurant in the warmer months for this reason alone. In sum, this is a clean, lively restaurant with very diverse and extensive menu of average tasting mexican food that meets expectations for the price point but it's best to only go for takeout and get your swerve on at home with your own properly "sauced" margaritas. read more

My experience with lupitas was terrible me and my friends went in there because we were hungry thier is no place to order you have to ask them it's crowded, stuffy, and not welcoming thier was a hair in my chicken strips they wear no hair nets and also they charge u more for something you didn't ask for or when you did ask for something they forget and lie. I've never had a bad meal at lupitas! The 99¢ margaritas ARE in fact, 99¢. The restaurant itself just had a major makeover, new booths and tables. Its beautiful and bright! If you want the kind of Mexican food you can find anywhere around the country from an above-average joint, you'll find it here and won't be disappointed. What a surprise, this is a hidden gem. Went in for dinner on Tuesday night and will go back again when in the area. I had this queso chorizo appetizer with jalapeños, it comes with tortillas but I loved it with chips. Dinner consisted of four tacos, it was taco Tuesday. For drinks I had a bartender margarita. Wow, it's fresh taste, plenty of lime juice, not sugary or syrupy from pre-made mix, but watch out, it was strong. There is no reason to knock back two or three, if you do, don't drive home. Unfortunately, Casa Fiesta became Lupita's after a series of raids by ICE cost CF some of its servers, its owner--and by the taste of it, its best cooks. Lupita's remains an acceptable, inexpensive Mexican restaurant in a small town in suburban Ohio, but the food is no longer anything to rave about and the business on the whole is less friendly. If you're looking for locally sourced foods and Mexican inspired tastes, check out Agave on College Street instead; if you're dead set on a particular meal rather than a generic burrito or massive nachos, Lupita's is the place to go. read more

While I can understand the draw for some, Lupitas does not hit my hot button. The $1 margaritas on Tuesdays and Thursdays are actually $1.50 and do not seem to be anything more than triplesec & sour mix. Besides the misleading drink special, food at Lupitas leaves a lot to be desired. While the portions are generous, the meat is often overcooked and the food does terrible things to one's digestive system. The ambiance is actually very nice. It did not bother me that the tamales and chile rellenos most likely come frozen from a restaurant supplier. Lupitas gets three stars because I was hungry, they had heat, and my dinner companions, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, would fit right in. I would have given four stars but for the margarita special, a 24 ounce cocktail that only looked promising. Note to bartender: try using tequila.....or any alcohol at all. Our family went yesterday afternoon around 3:30 (Sept. 27) It was our daughters 48th birthday. Not only was the food great and fresh but our server was AWESOME! I wish I knew her name. She went above and beyond her normal job and came out with a surprise desert that she also put a lit candle on and we all (including her) sang happy birthday.
