Decided to try this cake place in San Mateo, but it was a little on the disappointing side. Cute interior, but the cakes are a bit over priced and have too much cream. Might be better for someone who prefers much sweeter cakes
My request could not go through, and they expected me to call them rather than send an online message. They also forgot to provide the birthday topper with the cake. If you are not the one picking it up, this detail might be overlooked. The cake was not overly sweet compared to others, but it was not particularly exquisite and did not feel impressive for the price. The cake is NOT 9 inch, around 8.2 inch. see picture..
Cute dessert shop in Downtown San Mateo. I ordered the durian crepe cake- I really enjoyed it. The flavors were on point and not too sweet. There is a kiosk to order so pretty minimal service. Overall, would be back if I was in the area!!
Small little dessert shop in downtown San Mateo. There was only one person working, and the lady was very sweet. The crepe cakes were very tasty, not too sweet, and the flavors were pretty on point. Would definitely come back again to try the other flavors.

Strawberry Millie Crepe $14: it LOOKED very good, the colors were very pink, and it seemed very yummy. However, the slice we got was half frozen. Millie crepes cakes are layers of smooth silky cream sandwiched between thin layers of crepe. My slice was not enjoyable as it was frozen in between. We ate these in store. .:: Service / Ambiance / Parking ::. Self order at kiosks. Cakes arrived shortly after. The place was cute and minimal. About 4-5 tables inside. Parking was easy as with most of San Mateo. Street parking or garage available.
Had to stop by this location to try their cake. Per sister in law, their cakes are so good. We ordered: matcha slice, tiramisu slice and black sesame slice. I know their slice of cake is not cheap. It's a bit expensive per slice $13. But Omg. It was worth trying. Of all the 3 slices, my favorite was the black sesame slice. I don't know how to explain it, but it was just like eating black sesame dessert. It even smelled like black sesame. Would I come back. Yes. We even ordered 2 cakes. One with half matcha and tiramisu, and one whole black sesame for a birthday dinner.
Great service and cute, minimal interior! Salted egg yolk and pork sung was really unique. I would want a little more pork sung sprinkled on top! However eating this, I couldn't tell the cake had layers, thus giving this review 4 stars. The lady at the counter was really nice! She gave my toddler extra strawberry and cream since he wasn't really touching the pork sung slice. So sweet. Will definitely be back to try the black sesame and matcha!
I was excited to try this place out since I love mille crepes. Ad we enter, the interior is spacious and clean. They have a self order kiosk which is really handy. One thing to note that I didn't see others mentioning is that there is an additional fee/service charge when using the self order kiosk. I had ordered the black sesame cake and the durian cake. The cakes do come frozen and it took more than a hour to thaw out. The black sesame was really good and the flavors were strong and nutty. The only con was that it was still frozen in the middle after waiting an hour and the cake layers were really thick and hard compared to other mille crepe cakes that I had before. I was really excited to try the durian and forgot to snap a picture, but I had high hopes after trying the sesame. I love durian but their durian cake lacked flavor. There was minimal durian smell and taste so if you are a durian fan I would pass on this. For the price point of $15-18, I would expect higher quality cakes but it just doesn't meet that. I would maybe give them another try and get a different flavor, but the quality and fees make it hard to justify revisiting.
Let me start by saying this: HATERS NEED TO STOP COMPARING THIS TO LADY M. I swear you guys be trying too hard to kill a hard working entrepreneur. The decor of the place is very clean and welcoming. Good for small groups or a quick get together. I've had three crepes here--the Oreo, strawberry, and passion fruit. All of them were perfectly balanced--not too sweet and not overly creamy. The owner genuinely cares about her business: I asked her if she had a Tiktok or an IG for her shop and she said not yet. Reason? She wants to properly grow the business without compromising the quality of the product she puts out. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.

Pretty nice place that gives a bit of Lady M vibe with the clean white look. The cakes after you thaw them out I think are pretty good. The black sesame was really good if you like black sesame. Strawberry had a nice layer in the middle with chucks of strawberries. Matcha is similar Lady M's. Durian one def has the durian flavor, with is a love or hate with most people. Would def like more of it in the cake. The passion fruit one was okay, I think it was just their original with a layer of passion fruit jelly. I say it's comparable with other mille crepe cake, pricing is a bit more but you don't have to drive as far.
This is a beautiful, little dessert shop. There are a few tables right by the window so you can people watch as you enjoy your dessert. I don't believe the items offered here are suited for everyone's tastes, but I believe everyone should try it at least once. The matcha mille crepe cake was delicate and not too sweet. A nice cup of tea would have been perfect to pair. The service was quick and friendly.
We tried their black sesame crepe cake and it was just ok. Not too sweet but overall it had an interesting texture to the crepes that I can't really describe. On the scale of best crepe cake I've ever had to not good I would say it's about average as well as including the price. It's a small cafe where you can enjoy in store but no bathrooms available. Stopped by and ordered a salted oreo cake for myself and a durian cake for my parents. The flavor of the cream was alright but I wasn't a fan of the cake texture as it felt very frozen/hard and brittle. There is a price discrepancy but I'd still stick with Lady M for crepe cakes. Service was also really slow despite the place being pretty much empty -- it seemed like there was only one person working there on a Saturday which could be pretty rough. read more

Really delicious crepe cakes!! They're a great alternative to the Lady M cakes if you don't wanna make the drive to grab it. Although you don't get the lightness from the cream as you do from Lady M, they make up for it with all the unique flavors! The store is tucked away, so be on a lookout for a display in the window to know that you're at the right place. I ordered the tiramisu and matcha slices to try, and both were really great! If I had to choose, I would definitely order the tiramisu again. It was really well flavored and not too sweet. The matcha was a little bit sweeter, but it didn't really have as strong of a matcha flavor throughout the cake. The cake slices come in cute separate boxes. I love that they put plastic around the slices that make the cakes presentable when you open the box. Also note that there's a slight discount when you pay with cash! read more
I was headed to SF for an appointment but had some time to kill. Was so excited when I found this crepe cake spot along my way there. The downside is that they waited until after I placed my order and paid to tell me some important information. They do NOT sell single slices of crepe cakes ready for consumption. All of their crepe cakes are prepared and then immediately frozen. They only thaw them out ahead of time if you preorder. I ordered the Strawberry and Matcha slices. I waited for them to that and gave them a shot. They were decent. Not the best I've had but they get the job done. read more

Ordered the tiramisu cake online for pick up 2 days prior. They sent me a reminder text on the day of with their closing time which was nice. My sister and family loved the cake. It was not too sweet and they also had options to add on some happy birthday signs. I got to choose the design I liked in store. It's a cute little shop. This is the first time I've ever left a negative review for a store. My friend and I bought two slices of mille crepe cakes with different flavors. The one she picked was likely freshly made today, as it was soft and fluffy. However, the slice I got was taken straight out of the fridge--it was hard, icy, and impossible to cut with a fork. By the time my friend finished her cake, I was still waiting for mine to thaw. At $13 per slice, I can't help but wonder how long this cake had been frozen before being sold to customers?! read more
I to go a slice of durian crepe cake cost about $15. The staff told me need to defrost after 1 hour only can enjoy the cake. But I kept it in fridge and had it on second day. They used real durian for the ingredient, you can see it when biting it. It taste delicious, not too overwhelming or weird at all! I will try their crepe cake next time. read more
Crepe cakes are PRICEY! And I always feel hesitant to try them because, I mean, how good can one slice be.. for $13?! But you've got to try this place's sea salt oreo!! It's the perfect balance of oreo and filling with not an overwhelming amount of salt. The slice is frozen when you pick it up and they said to wait about 2 hours before eating it - of course I couldn't wait that long, and after about an hour it was the perfect consistency and was similar to an ice cream cake in the best way lol. I was able to buy a slice at the door with no pre online order. They only take Venmo or cash right now! read more
Ordered myself a birthday cake a few days in advance. Got a text reminder on that day for the pickup time which is nice! The unboxing experience is just ok. The box looks nice. But, I was expecting a bit more decorative embellishments on the side of the cake instead of just clear plastic wrap. Just plain cardboard cake stand which is all ok if the cake is awesome. I try the Matcha side first as I LOVE matcha. First bite is underwhelming. There are definitely a lot of layers of crepe. But they are NOT soft or fluffy. It's just flat dry crepe with cream in between the layers. I will say it is very time consuming to make it, but the taste is not there. The sea salt Oreo is a tad better than Matcha. All in all, it's just not that good and the price doesn't justify it. Should have ordered a slice before ordering the entire cake. If you are still curious, you should try a slice first. Maybe you have better luck than me. For me, I will not be a return customer. read more

3.5 STARS COVID-19 DELIVERY Splurge really isn't in my vocab these days. I rather buy 2-3 meals from several restaurants than one meal from one fancy restaurant. Gotta stretch that dollar and those s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y pants to support as many small business that we can. But, it was Christmas so I wanted to splurge a little for dessert after my mom's holiday tradition of instant mashed potatoes... Mille Crêpe Cake it is! For the holidays, Luluyum was offering a 4-in-1 Holiday Special Mille Crêpe Cake Slices: Salted Egg & Pork Floss, Matcha, Tiramisu, Dark Chocolate for $56 ($14/slice). I purchased the slices for delivery via Nextdish, a bay area app that delivers AZN goodies to your home. If you want Haidilao (Cupertino) delivered to SF, you can have it! I ordered the night before and was given a 2 hour window for delivery. I received regular text updates and my order arrived within the first hour by a very kind man hustling on Christmas Day. Each Mille Crêpe Cake Slice was individually boxed and packed in a stapled bag. During the ordering process, it wasn't specified that the slices will arrive partially frozen. Nor, was there a note included to indicate that they needed to be thawed before consuming. While unboxing the slices, the edges seemed soft, however, it was sorely disappointing to dig into these expensive slices to find they were still frozen in the center. With that said, the flavors were tasty and subtly sweet just the way I like my desserts. Flavors listed from fav to least fav: https://bit.ly/390Y0kA (1) Tiramisu: Bold cacao and espresso flavors with a delicious richness from the airy mascarpone cheese. (2) Matcha: Strong matcha flavor. The vegetal bitterness nicely balanced the delicate sweetness of the crepes and the cream. (3) Dark Chocolate: Rich and smooth with a good sweet bitterness. (4) Salted Egg & Pork Floss: I've had this combo as a boxed cake from a Sunnyvale cake studio and loved the salty rich, savory umami combo so I was really excited about this flavor. Unfortunately, the salted egg layer was hard, and that's after thoroughly thawing the rest of the slice. Perhaps a whole cake is the way to go with this flavor so it retains its moisture better? I also ordered a bag of the Black Sesame Toffee Brittle, 72% dark chocolate, brown sugar, sea salt (3 oz - $10) which I enjoyed: https://bit.ly/2Lrbj5y. Crunchy, roasty, and bittersweet. The sprinkling of sea salt helps to take the bitter edge off the dark chocolate. Overall, 3.5 stars but rounding down. With the highest price point per a slice in the Bay Area, I expected Luluyum's quality (texture) to surpass their competitors. In the future, if Luluyum decides to sells their Mille Crêpe Cake Slices at their brick & mortar (only whole cakes for now), I hope to give them another shot and have a better experience then. read more

The daughter wanted a snack and we were pleasantly surprised to find this spot in San Mateo. There's an Order and Pay machine right as you enter; don't be shy, just follow the instructions and you'll be just fine. Minimalist and clean in design, the shop highlights their creative and unique flavors like Salted Egg and Pork Sung, Durian, and Black Sesame. I know, Pork Sung in a Mille Crepe cake?!? I was definitely intrigued. Never to back down from any gastronomic experience, I clicked on Order and history was made. No, there's no stringy bits of dried pork here, just the creamy goodness and flavor of it, subtly enhanced by the finely crumbled salted egg yolk. It's one flavor that I was happily surprised with. My daughter went for their Black Sesame and because she shared some with me, the world shone a little brighter that day. Or it could be the current heat wave in the Bay Area. Best mille crepe cake in the Bay Area! My mom first found her through friends on Wechat and she was doing more personal orders when she first started. Then she got onto Nextdish, an Asian cuisine delivery app, and now she has her own shop in San Mateo! Having tried plenty of other crepe cakes before, these are honestly soooo good and top them all (even the most coveted Lady M)! She makes everything fresh and has so many different flavors. Recently for the holidays, she came out with a 4-in-1 holiday cake with 4 different flavors in one cake. I feel like this is the easiest way to try different flavors if you're unsure of what to get! I have tried almost all of her different flavors from the usual Original and Matcha flavors to her special Salted Egg Yolk and Pork and Durian flavors. She also has chocolate, tiramisu, black tea, cookies and cream etc. basically any flavor you can really think of and some of them are usually seasonal! i LOVE crepe cakes and my bf surprised me with these yummy slices from luluyum!! the flavors are really unique and all tasted super yum! the slices came individually packaged and i will for sure be back if i ever want to pick up slices or a full-sized crepe cake! COME SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES! --- sea salt oreo i've never seen a crepe cake with this flavor and it's a boba drink that i personally love lately so i was super excited to try! it was really good and you could definitely taste the slight saltiness with the oreo! i recommend trying this! --- matcha i think this flavor was our favorite it tasted sooo good! it tasted so creamy but not overly sweet or too bitter either! i'd get a full crepe cake of this flavor for sure in the future! --- boba milk tea this one had the crystal boba pieces inside and was really interesting! it actually tasted like milk tea which i love and thought it was super good --- fyi my bf said online ordering was super easy and they also do delivery! there is a flower shop inside called florachic in case you want to pick up an aesthetic bouquet as well! :") read more
I had pretty high expectations from this place because of the reviews but if I have to be honest, I'm a little let down. Let's start with the price. Each slice is about $13, which is more on the expensive side for a slice of a mille crepe cake (around $10). It's more economical to buy a whole cake (around $70) but I thought I would just buy three slices to try this place out before committing to a whole cake. They are packaged very carefully, with plastic wrapping around the cake within the cardboard box. A+ on appearances; the cakes looked lovely. The taste and texture: pretty good! The tiramisu and durian flavors were on point: lightly sweet flavor and soft texture of the crepes. My only gripe was with the matcha flavor. I'm not sure that I was given a fresh slice of the matcha cake because the bottom half of the cake was hard. Like when I put my fork through the cake, it couldn't cut through the bottom layers and instead, it just squeezed out the matcha cream :((( I don't like to waste food but I just couldn't bring myself to eat the hardened part of the cake... Would I come back to buy an entire cake? Maybe, I'm kind of hesitant because I'm worried about getting a fresh cake. Would I come back to try their unique flavors that you can't get anywhere else? (durian lol) Yes! I could see myself coming back to buy single slices for my family and myself, but I would not buy a whole cake from here to gift it someone. I just think about how embarrassing it would be if my friends/extended family experienced the hardened slice of matcha cake that I had...just not worth the risk. This popped up as Hot New Business and I was very interested based on some of the reviews. I am supportive of local businesses during the pandemic shutdown. However, this is very misleading; I arrived at the former Fresh Nation storefront only to discover that they are not technically open for business and you have to order ahead by calling or ordering online. The owner of the store informed me of this after I knocked on the door. She couldn't give me a definitive answer when the store would be opening due to COVID-19 shutdown. My trip was not a complete waste and the owner offered me what flavors she had available, Oreo and Tiramisu. The cost was $25 for 2 slices of the mille crepe cake; $12.50 a slice I thought was pricey for their cake for a standard slice and even more if you had it delivered. The slices came individually boxed in triangular shaped boxes. Sadly, I was not impressed with their cake--while the appearance and layering is beautiful; the Oreo cake came with a mini Oreo and the tiramisu was generously dusted with cocoa powder, each crepe layer was perfectly thin and a nice sponginess, but the flavors of my particular choices, the Oreo was lacking, the tiramisu had a buttercream-like aftertaste with each bite despite the beautiful appearance. It was definitely not a memorable dessert experience. Maybe I had too high of an expectation of these cakes. I cannot give this place anything more than 3 stars for now. I may give it another chance sometime in the future. read more
Hands down, Luluyum has the best durian mille crepe cake! Tbh, it's the best durian cake I have ever tasted. Not a lot of people are fond of the taste or smell of durian.. so if you are a durian fan, you have to give this place a try. I have had several mille crepe cakes before but what really separates this from the others is the thinness of each layer of crepe. Also, the freshness and sweetness of the durian was a huge plus! These crepe cakes are pretty pricey but it justifies the hard work it goes into making these. read more

this is a cute but expensive dessert location in downtown san mateo. they offer takeout cakes and many unique flavors for crepe cakes. keep in mind that they often do not have cakes to eat at the location itself, and you will likely have to order ahead or reserve a cake to pick up. - Salted Egg Yolk Pork Sung Crêpe Cake: nuanced flavor profile, but overall nothing special despite unique flavor combination - Black Sesame Crêpe Cake: nutty and aromatic sesame flavor, not too sweet Overall, I still prefer Lady M crepe cakes, but this location offers a good alternative due to the friendly staff and bright environment. read more
I was blown away by the experience here! From start to finish, what a delight! I ordered the milk tea cake for my wife's birthday, and requested an inscription for the top. Via text, they were very accommodating and willing to try (sounded as if they don't often do inscriptions). When I went to pick up, I was greeted at the front desk by the two daughters (I assume) of the owner. Love to see a nice family run local business! The flavor on the cake was phenomenal - the tea flavor was not overpowering as in some earl grey flavored desserts I've had, but clear, measured, and well balanced with the milkiness of the cream. It truly tasted like a well brewed milk tea. Cannot recommend this place enough! read more
Luluyum is going to draw constant comparisons to Lady M because of their similarities. A lot of reviewers on here have differing opinions stating which is better or worse. For the most part I think Luluyum is pretty similar and when considering the distance, Lady M is much further away from where I live. When it comes to Mille crepe cakes, they will always be priced very high and thats one of the biggest downsides when it comes to Luluyum. We got the Tasting Set which came at a price of $108 which is certainly very steep for a dessert. The staff also allows you to substitute any flavor in the Tasting Set which is why there are two matcha cakes in my picture. The entrance of Luluyum to put it bluntly is super uninviting and pretty easy to miss too when you're in town. You can't enter the inside and the entrance is blocked by a cart. You have to ring a bell to get a worker to come take your order. Customer service was decent overall. I'm only giving it three stars because taste wise some cakes didn't taste much different from the other. The milk tea crepe cake didn't have much of a milk tea taste for example and just tasted pretty vanilla. Some flavors are just lacking overall and for the price you would expect more depth in flavor for the cakes. The awkwardness of having to order basically outside and not being able to go inside is a negative for me, but some others might not mind. Personally I would never go here to get a cake unless it was a special occasion like a birthday. The high price is certainly a big downside. read more

Luluyum is a minimalistic crepe cake shop. There were about 12 flavors available on the menu when I went. Unfortunately, only 3 were available to eat on the spot right away. The rest of the flavors were available as frozen slices that required about 5 hours of thawing. I opted for a matcha crepe cake slice and it was about $14. I've had an array of crepe cakes before from different spots and it was good, but it didn't stand out. I recommend giving this spot a try if you're in the area!
