We went to Baking Arts for a private croissant making class. It was such a fun experience in their beautifully organized kitchen. I've never had a private class before, but I figured I had enough family members interested in it to try it out. Laura, the owner and our primary teacher/baker, did a great job explaining why we do certain steps and showing us how to make croissants by demonstrating it first and then having us try it. I would definitely recommend doing a private class if you have a group over five people. It was a really fun experience. Now, I am eating fresh croissants every morning.

This was a very fun and well-organized class. Rosaura was wonderful and patient, and everyone's cookies were beautiful!

I've taken friends to both the croissant/pan de chocolate and chocolate babka classes and they were both a hit. Instructions from Laura are not just precise, it's entertaining. You can truly tell the staff have a passion for baking and teaching. It's such a great bonding moment with my friends as we get to chat in between. I also love being able to take home my own dough and practice. Also, I want to buy everything in the store. It's pricey but definitely worth the 1.5-2 hour experience.

I really liked the babka bread course, a very good course and every time I go I meet very nice people, of course I will come back again and I love learning all kinds of baking.

I spent the day running errands and wanted a little pick-me-up. Searched for "coffee" and "open now" as it was 3:30pm on a Thursday. Found Bliss - I tried to find it but missed it my first go-round. Checked address again but saw that the website was at Baking Arts - OOOOOH! OK, inside Baking Arts. I went inside and the cute selection of baking items surrounded me, as did the lovely smell of baking cookies coming from the back where they were I think running a class. MMMM I wish they were selling those cookies! Ah well. I ordered the coffee with lavender and elderberry. All of their coffee is cold brewed, but can be served hot or cold, whole milk or oatmilk. I decided cold and oatmilk. The two tables to sit at were busy so I just walked back to my car, turned on the music, and sat in my parking spot drinking my coffee. What a delightful mix of flavors, though I'm slightly allergic to lavender, so now I have a headache lol, and the oatmilk was creamy and delicious. I enjoyed my moment to myself, and then moved on to my next errand after a restful moment. $7 for a lovely cup of yummy coffee - definitely a place you should try!

I took the sourdough baking class. I've never made it before and I learned so much. Laura the instructor took us through all the steps of making the bread and starter. We took home dough and I baked it the following morning, it was amazing!

We had a great experience and had a lot fun! Rosaura is an awesome teacher, the venue is comfortable, and the delicious biscuits and scones came out perfectly in a diversity of flavors. We were amongst a small group, which was nice too.

Ask the Community - Baking Arts & Coffee

Hello I attended the royal icing class a couple of years ago and lost the recipe during a move. Would I have to retake a class for it or would I be able to have one emailed?

The store has changed owners. The new owner is very nice & will probably be glad to give you the recipe. However really easy to make. You can just buy meringue powder & follow recipe on the package.

What's the max number of people during a class and what are the covid safety protocols regarding social distancing, etc? Thank yoU!

What is the age groups for decorating classes? Specifically, are they kid friendly?

The best answer would be to call Richard and ask him directly. But from the class we took, it was only adults, his presentation is such that I would say that kids would be welcome. I'm sure if you present him with the ages of the kids you want to… Read more

Daniel and I started talking about and planning our wedding late February 2022. And we were recommended to reach out to Lana and her company Rainbow Chefs for the catering. Daniel and I were originally planning for a cocktail wedding, as opposed to a traditional sit down dinner. We were madly sending out inquiries to different food catering companies, food trucks, restaurants, etc., with no hope in regards to the insanely expensive prices for the amount of people we were expecting, about 200+. Finally, Daniel's manager suggested that we reach out to Lana. We scheduled a zoom meeting with her, and had an unforgettable first impression of her and her plan for our last minute wedding. She broke down every detail we needed to be aware of and prepared for, including prices, and even discussed different options her company could offer to us. It was not easy to plan a wedding with 200+ guest invitations, in 4-5 months, but thankfully we were lucky enough that Lana and her crew were available for our wedding date and were able to help us throughout the process. During the entire planning time, Lana diligently checked in on both Daniel and I, sometimes individually, making sure tasks were being done and loose ends were being tied in time for our big day. Not only was Lana on top of us daily/weekly regarding our wedding planning, but she was also conscientious toward our mental health and instilled lots of important advice. About a week before our wedding day, Lana, Kate and Viana came to the venue, along with our other vendors, to have an overall tour of the venue, to make sure they knew where to maneuver the food tables, the kitchen staff, the bar situation, etc. On the day of the wedding, Lana was exceptional! Her and the Rainbow Chefs crew made sure our guests were well taken care of. I got compliments from our family and friends about how great the staff was, so that definitely meant alot. Throughout the night, along with our wedding planner, Lana was making sure that Daniel and I ate, that we were aware of things she and her crew were doing, etc. They definitely helped ease some of our planning and event stresses. The communication, diligence and honesty that Lana and Rainbow Chefs presented to us throughout the entire planning and event process was one that we absolutely recommend to anyone who is planning a wedding or large event/party!!

Very questionable communication from the Rainbow Chefs Update- After three painful weeks, I have finally received the e-recipes that were promised to us in August, 2021. During the past three weeks, Lana from Rainbow chefs kept on promising that she will send the recipes to me without providing a date. I had to follow up with her multiples time to get an update. Along the way Lana kept on saying that Rainbow chefs went above and beyond to create the recipes for our camp and the recipes are supposed to be an "extra effort" for our camp, however, this was actually advertised to us before we signed the contract. I felt really annoyed that one dared to describe something that's 11 months late as "extra effort". In addition, the first version I received was full of typos/formatting errors and missing TWO dishes. Lana told me those were missing because she lost the recipe files--but according to her that everything was custom made for our camp so she had to write the recipes from scratch? If she had the "files" all this time why not just send to me? To conclude, lots of inconsistent information from Rainbow chefs. I would advise everyone to think twice before choosing to work with Rainbow chefs

Ever since buying a place a few years ago, I've wanted to learn how to cook. Not just to make it by…read morewithout starving, but really learn how to make quality food at home--I'm a foodie after all. ;-) This is the best cooking class company I've taken classes at to help me move closer to my goal. Highlights: - Format: A combination of demo and hands on which is the perfect mix: "see then do" as they say. Thorough and educational with detailed information on not only cooking techniques, but also the equipment (helpful gadgets in some cases), ingredients, their origins, and health benefits. I left each class feeling like I was becoming a more educated and better chef already. I've been to classes at Home Chef (when it was in SJ), Whole Foods (Cup and San Mateo), and Sur La Table (LG), and while those were fun, I didn't really learn as much as I would have liked. - Teacher: friendly, approachable, easy to learn from, comical, seems to genuinely care about her food and the people in her class, and knows her stuff. Chef Suzanne Vandyck has the culinary credentials and has even authored a cookbook. She tells you little tricks here and there along with fun stories of her travels and related eats to give it a personal touch. - Environment: very casual and comfortable. Questions are encouraged throughout and you don't feel intimidated chiming in with one during the demo or while cooking. I've been to classes where you felt like you were learning from a cooking nazi: if you didn't use the right spoon or something she'd snip at you. I want to learn, but this is for fun. I like more hakuna matata attitude here. As Chef Suzanne says, "In a restaurant it has to be perfect, at home it's ok." :-) - International Themes: I took the Easy and Healthy Japanese cooking class but they offer Italian, French, Mediterranean, Spanish, etc. I was a bit weary of learning Japanese food from a lady from Belgium, but she had enough traveling, visiting with locals, eating, and cooking experience to portray the authentic styles. I lived in Japan for a few years and eat Japanese food a good deal and learned tons from her class. - Great recipes: everything that we made was scrumptious. I loved being able to know how to make the classic Japanese sauces (tempura, miso, etc.) There are always options either written down or noted verbal during the demo so you know how you can change it up to suit your tastes or ingredients you have handy. - Salads: when you sign up, you can see what dishes will be made and I was enticed by the entrees. After all was said and done I did enjoy the entrees like expected, but was surprised to be blown away by the salads. The watercress and then spinach salads with dressings we made on our own were amazing. - Recipe handouts: before class you get a few pages stapled together of the recipes of the day. The teacher not only includes pictures up top, but a nice little paragraph of the story and background about what the dish is. - Plating: after Chef Suzanne makes an item, she plates them on beautiful little authentic Japanese plates (since I took the Japanese class) and organizes the food so it looks professional and impressive. Since I want to be a Top Chef quality chef, I love learning these plating skills to make my dishes visually appealing and fancier than the average home cooked meal. 8-) - Leftovers: sometimes there's a lot of food, so if you bring a container you can take some to enjoy at home - People: After the demos we break up into groups and make a few recipes. I didn't take the class to meet new people, but I made some nice friends through the few sessions we've have. - Class time said 6-9:30pm which I was initially worried sounded a bit long, but we usually finished by 9 or earlier so I could make it home to watch Grey's just slightly delayed on TiVo. ;-) - Location: most of the quality classes I have seen are in the city which is hard to get to on a weeknight. These are held closer to home in Cupertino and Santa Clara. Lowlights (my flip side to highlights): - How much fun you have cooking depends on the group you end up in--just normal group dynamics and personalities, etc. - Not optimal equipment: this is where it's a pro to go to a specialty store like Sur La Table or Whole Foods: the equipment will be more top notch. Our class was at Cupertino High School which had dull knives, old silverware, etc. They also didn't have any chopsticks to use in our Japanese class, so we brought our own. - Sometimes she changes the recipe from what's written down so you just have to be aware and take notes on your handouts. - Some classes you get a snack pretty early on but others you don't get to eat until 8:30pm, so you may want to have a snack before just in case. I'm so happy to have found this cooking school and will be looking to take more classes in the future!

Highly recommend Chef Suzanne and Worldchefs International!…read more I've taken Italian cooking classes, garlic cooking classes and a team-building cooking class. All spectacular... Highlights of courses: *Picked up FANTASTIC recipes that I still cook today... *Learned how to use quality ingredients to make delicious dishes *Met some great people *Paid close to nothing to learn from a top-notch chef and her colleagues Minuses: *May be challenging if you are with a group of people whom are unaccustomed to being in the kitchen... Favorite dishes that I still cook today zuppa di ceci (Italian garbanzo bean soup), pizza margherita, paella (Spanish rice dish), chicken marsala, risotto, minestrone soup, non-alcoholic sangria, and flourless chocolate cake.
