Solid breakfast and friendly service! I loved their take on a horseshoe. The breakfast shoe features biscuits, gravy, potatoes and your choice of meat and eggs. Don't pass up their home fries, they are great! All the normal breakfast offerings on the menu, plus daily specials, like a Mexican skillet featuring chorizo. Not sure what happened here, maybe just an off day, which does happen. Eggs were cold, toast seemed to have a 1/4 stick of butter unmelted per slice (had to scoop it off), hash browns crispy on top, cold and soggy in the middle, gravy for biscuits was cold. Usually everything is great, but it's almost like our food was left too long in the window. $25 for coffee and breakfast is little high to get cold inedible food. Only ate my eggs (I was starving!) and 1 piece of cold toast. Not sure if and when will try again. read more

Vegetables appeared fresh and crisp. They don't really know how to fry an egg how you want it, it's either undercooked, or overcooked. Same goes for bacon crisp levels. Overall not a bad place for breakfast. I would go again, but not as a first pick. read more

We were driving through on a Sunday around 11:30 am looking for a breakfast/lunch place. The inside is very cute. Vintage decor, Tiffany lamps, I love unique diners with personality! If you are in a hurry, do not stop here. I understand that if they are short on staff it may take awhile. But this was ridiculous. Our drink order was taken pretty quickly but it was at least over 30 minutes before my coffee was filled and it took at least 40 minutes to get an omelet and a pork tenderloin with fries. Our waitress disappeared from the floor for at least 15 minutes, I thought she might be cooking our order. The fenjoyed our meal. I had the Western Omelet and the hash browns were delicious. Nice and crispy on top and a generous portion. The coffee as good but only coffeemate served rather than half and half. My husband said the pork tenderloin was okay and what he expected. At the end of the meal I used the bathroom and it was dirty, trash overflowing, bad smell. A place that does not care about the bathroom is a definite deal breaker for me and I will not be back. read more

The food was delicious. Really wanted breakfast and this place served it to us. Coming in the entrance way, there was a really strong urine smell. Also, not the it mattered but the toilet paper felt more like wax paper. Yikes. Great food. Great prices. Great staff. Really friendly environment. Will be coming back in the future. read more

I love when I pop into a diner that does more than serve your standard American fare (i.e. eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes)...and Lulu's was a pleasant surprise! They were running a Sunday special of $2.50 street tacos (pork, cow tongue, or steak), I optioned for two steak and one pork. They were both amazing but I leaned towards the pork which was the opposite of what I had suspected. Their Sunday menu specials were all unique and to top if off they still make homemade pies and cakes. My fiancee and I split a piece of strawberry cake (a favorite of ours) and it too was outstanding. The service was also good and I love the inside architecture of this tucked away diner in an area of town we usually do not frequent. The only slight knock and I mean slight, the corn tortillas were a tad wet with grease, just needed a few more minutes to dry before loading them up (that being said I would gladly get them again) and we can't wait to go back!! read more

Lulu's has a wonderful mom-and-pop diner vibe, and the food rivals some high-end cafes. The grilled chicken salad was vibrant and had well-balanced flavors. Being in Springfield for the first time, we had to try the the Horseshoe, the city's cheese fries loaded burger. We really enjoyed smaller portion they called Ponyshoe (server said this was the single burger patty version versus the regular being double patty). The burger itself wasn't anything special, but the seasoned fries and spicy jalapeno mixed with everything was outstanding. The attention to detail such as texture of the fries and amount of cheese made a difference in making something very simple so delicious! Despite how busy it was during weekend brunch, servers were attentive and helpful. Prices were very reasonable, too. Highly recommend! read more

Wow. So I've been looking for a non-commercial family dining restaurant in Springfield and I've finally found it. This is a small family owned diner. The building used to be an old darkened Chinese food restaurant. But now it's open, airy and bright. Upon entering my friend and I were advised to sit wherever we like. The first thing I noticed were the food boards, the mounted TVs and the calm ambiance. The facility is clean with soft music playing in the background. When the food came it made me smile. The hash browns were crispy yet still moist on the inside. The bacon was grown up sized bacon not little bacon slivers like at some places. My friend and I shared a dish and added to it alacart, a two egg special with a side of bacon and oatmeal. There was plenty for two and it was good. The only complaint if we could call it that was heat. The food was steamy but not hot, but it is summer and the air conditions is going well. The food is so good our neighbored guest came over and mentioned how she continues to come here and can never eat all of the food she orders and how satisfied she is with the price. I think I agree, overall it was fair prices for a fair amount of food. After all that we had, taxes and coffee for two the bill was less than $20. I have no complaints really and I'll definitely be back again, family in tow. Oh and let me not discount our servers, the service team here is exceptional. They work as a team and everyone was in a good mood. Thanks Aidee, Dawn and everyone on shift this morning for making our first breakfast here such a pleasure. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but nearly every table was full when we decided to try it out for a late breakfast. The inside looked like a diner with quite a few tables and booth seating available. My husband and I both tried the breakfast shoe. We had biscuits covered with hash browns, meat of our choice and covered in sausage gravy. It was quite tasty and very reasonably priced. We both only ate half. Next time I think I'll try their French toast as it looked delicious! Wait staff was great and very attentive! We look forward to coming back! read more

Don't judge this restaurant by its exterior. It's well with going inside for! I would definitely recommend this hometown feel, "hole in the wall" type of place in Springfield, IL for their breakfast. Finally got a chance to try Lulu's last Sunday. They were pretty busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. DH got the Western omelet, minus cheese. He was very pleased. Hash browns weren't greasy. I got the Hobo skillet with scrambled eggs. It was delicious and the eggs were perfect. Our only complaint at all was the coffee is too weak. People at the next table brought their Starbucks, so it wasn't their first visit! We'll definitely go back!! read more

Had a meat skillet and instead of toast I ordered pancakes for $1 more. I usually don't eat pancakes but lately I've been craving a good pancake and I think I've found something better than good. These pancakes were what the doctor ordered. They hit so well! Huge fan of them. I'm not from the area but this was close for a bite to eat and I was hangry! My breakfast guest had French toast and the bread was huge and very fluffy! She says they were like a French bread but not as chewy as French bread. My skillet was good but I wouldn't go too much further than that. It was definitely a morning meal that hit the spot and brought from hangry to supappy! (That's super happy). Service was good and everything came out really fast! We were the only ones here at first then this place just got hammered within minutes of us sitting down. Parking lot is full and waitress walking around with a carafe of hot coffee. I miss places like this since everything is going so corporate these days. Nice place to eat with the wife and kids. My son and I tried this for the first time after high recommendations. It's a cozy diner atmosphere with a large menu that offers breakfast all day. It was really busy there when we arrived at 11:30am. Our waitress was extremely nice. Although it was crowded, it only took 10-15 minutes to get our food. My son had the horseshoe and said he really liked the cheese sauce. I got the beef eater which was roast beef and cheese on toasted Texas toast and fries. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The fries were just okay. The only two complaints we had were we were there an hour and never offered a second refill and we never received our check. Having been a waitress in a busy place before, I'm understanding of this though. Wish I'd had room for dessert. We'll be back!! read more
