I'm so glad I checked out happy hour at Lulu Bar. Their menu brings a Pacific coastal vibe, blending Hawaiian, Asian, Californian, and BC-inspired flavors. As soon as I walked in, I got that warm, beachy vacation-bar energy. We tried the char siu bao, pork belly, chicken wings, beef chuck, and their house-made Spam burger on a Hawaiian bun, along with a kale salad topped with gochujang macadamia nuts. Every dish delivered on flavor, but my favorites were the burger and the kale salad. Happy hour drinks were all reasonably priced, and I loved how they were served in cute glassware. They also had a great selection of local craft beers for $7, which was amazing. As a beer lover, I got to try brews from Dominion, Bellwoods, and Rorschach. My colleagues and I were looking for a place to sit down, enjoy some drinks, and unwind with nice ambience after a long day. While walking near the well, we stumbled upon this bar and decided to go in. When we first asked for a table on the patio, the manager refused, saying it was fully reserved, which was not true. Then, in the ground floor bar area, almost every table was empty except for 1, and he again said everything was reserved. It felt a bit weird, but we agreed to wait. We stood outside in the cold windy night for about 15 minutes while discussing whether to go somewhere else. It had been a long day and we didn't have the energy to start over so we stayed. After a while, the manager returned and offered us a table on the second floor. We accepted, sat down, and ordered a variety of food and drinks, all of which were nice. I ate here during summerlicious, but realized I never wrote my review. I'll start with the good: the drinks. I enjoyed my drink, and I would definitely come back for the bar experience specifically. Unfortunately the food is as a miss for me. I had heard so many good things, but it all felt either underwhelming or overwhelming in the wrong way. I was super excited for the hot dog bao, but it literally just felt like a mini hot dog in a bun. The dumplings were okay, but pretty standard. One of the dishes was very overpowered with vinegar, and it blew the rest of the dish out. I met a friend here for happy hour. The cocktails and food were all exceptional. The dip was creamy and flavorful. The hot dog boa is what you think it is - like a delicious hot dog only in bao form. I was looking for a family friendly restaurant and found this one at the Well! I ordered quite a few dishes to try and can say that all the dishes were excellent! This place served Pacific coast inspired food which was interesting to say the least! I've never tried anything like it. I came around 1 pm and at that time there weren't many customers. The space was quite large and I had booked the upstairs dining room. The server was prompt and attentive. Going back to the dishes, I think the Kale Salad, Taro tots and the bbq crispy half duck are worth an honourable mention! I absolutely devoured these dishes. Overall 3.8 star I don't like the food in Summerlicious. All portion is small. Duck skewer is mince. Salad sauce is refreshing but ingredient deep fried rice noodles without much veggies and is not my type. The main Korean beef ribs with rice is not my type. One thin slice of beef cut into pieces with rice with orange like thing ( I wish it is sweet potatoes would taste better) make it some sour . Fish is better but very small portion with 3 romain leave. I don't like ice cream sandwich as the sandwich is sweet bread or donut? Service is ok but putting out our wine during main is a bit late. Visited this Hawaiian restaurant situated by The Well over the Canada Day weekend. We were able to walk in without reservations and saw plenty of seating available around 5 pm. They have a happy hour from 3-6 pm everyday, where cocktails & mocktails are $10 with discounted appetizers, so we ordered The Pretty One cocktail, Hawaiian Honeycreeper mocktail, and chicken wings ($13) from this menu. We also ordered the Loco Moco (beef patty with fried rice, egg, gravy, and mushrooms) and their Crab Noodles as our mains. The mains were okay, but what I would return for were those chicken wings and their drinks. We got here during happy hour so also added some of those items. Service was fast and great. I also love the atmosphere. Duck Tskune Skewer: this was my boyfriend's favourite. In addition to the dip, they also had a leaf to wrap around the duck, offering 3 different ways to enjoy Cucumber salad: was a little salty at first but grew on me for sure. To book a large party for a special event you'd have to email them with your party dumber and then they give you menu options and price points. We went mid range and there was a great variety. What I loved was how easy it was and because I had been here before thế menu and ordering was easy to follow. It was here we discovered that the chef lived in Vietnam and Indonesia which informed his menu... call it serendipitous because my partner and I also happen to be Vietnamese and Indonesian and it was where we were going on our honeymoon - but I digress. They accommodated our party and were very attentive the entire time. The servers were so incredibly sweet and kept our water topped off. The food was even better the second time! It also helped thát we booked it during happy hour so we ended up getting discounted drinks too. The potato salad? Crispy exterior and soft exterior, so flavourful, and lots of textures. The miso cured egg? Give me like 10 of those. The heirloom beet salad? I was dancing in my seat. The Calamari? If you've had calamari before, meet her spicy sexy cousin. Thế chicken rice? Filling and delicious. The pita and dip? Perfect for a party. The steak? It was so good I forgot to take a picture of it and devoured it so fast. Spanning 2 floors, Lulu Bar serves Pacific-inspired sharable dishes in a fun and vibrant setting. The menu has a variety of dishes that take inspiration from lots of countries that border the Pacific ocean (Hawaii, Asia, California, and B.C.) and is divided into snacks, small plates and larger plates. The cocktail and beverage list is lengthy as well where there are alcoholic and plenty of non-alcoholic options. My husband and I decided to dine at Lulu Bar on a Sat night. I've heard so much hype about this place since it opened and the menu looked super interesting and unique. We did make reservations in advance. As soon as we arrived we checked in with the hostess and she told us to make our way to the 2nd floor (where the main dining room and open kitchen are located). We sat down and our lovely waiter explained the whole menu to us. Throughout the night, service was great. The meal was paced well and our server always made sure to change our plates as well as checked up on us. He was also engaging, friendly, and personable. Drinks wise, I ordered the zero-proof coconut cooler and my husband ordered a beer. The coconut cooler was a tropical delight, as if I'd be transported to a beach. Loved it! We didn't know where it was until we looked at the electric directory panel inside the Well. I didn't see a staircase but that could be because the entryway was really small. Right when you enter the restaurant the hostess is there to help. Luckily I had made a reservation so we were brought upstairs right away. We were seated at a table for two right in front of the open kitchen. We could see the chefs preparing the food for waitstaff to pick up. That was really interesting but it was also very hot. LOL. Being right beside the kitchen we started to feel really warm & took off what layers we could. The place looks nice. The decor is pale beige walls, brushed gold metal on the chairs, upholstered banquet seats and small tables with a stone-like top. There is also some sofas with low tables off to the sides in tucked away corners. There was also music playing in the background. There are about 4 single bathrooms at the back of the restaurant which were all clean & big enough to accomodate the average sized person. I don't recall seeing a handicap bathroom but I wasn't really looking for it either. We had a waiter named Leo who was really a nice, cool, relaxed dude. I ordered the steak with mushrooms & a side of rice. Hubby ordered a Bao, Chicken Skewers, and the Burger with spam. I loved the steak & mushrooms. The steamed rice was dry for my taste. Hubby really liked his food. The burger with spam is messy because of the sauce they put on it. The food was good, though a bit overpriced in my opinion compared to what you can get elsewhere. I read the food was supposed to be Hawaiian inspired but I didn't get that feeling from the dishes. Though, I'm not that familiar with Hawaiian dishes either! If you are wanting to check this place out, try between 3-6pm daily as that's happy hour. Drinks (including cocktails) are half price, and there is a small, but good happy hour menu! While it obviously does prepare many dishes with spam, (Lulu's restaurant is in Hawaii, where spam is frequent item there), you can certainly ask if certain dishes can have spam removed. We tried the udon chips and spicy kimchi dip. Delicious! The chips reminded me of this fried Indian snack. Nice airy texture, good crunch! The Musubi rolls (we had the Thai omelette option), was good, but I dipped it into the kimchi dip and it definitely amped up the flavours. I feel like it definitely needed a spice kick. The fried cured egg was good as well, nothing that blew my socks off. I probably wouldn't order it again The drinks are what shine here though. There's some fun cups and mugs they're served in as well which is fun! The food is meant to share family style. Lulubar is new bar-restaurant located at The Well along the exterior of the complex. It is loosely inspired by Hawaii and Hono'lulu'. The first level is the bar and the second level is the main restaurant. We came by as a medium sized group for lunch on a weekend and wasn't super busy. FOOD (4/5) We ordered a Hot Dog Bao (served w/ 2), Poke, and French Omelette. The Hot Dog Baos are served in a Chinese style gua bao with an aioli and top with candied nuts and cilantro. Good punch of flavours and a great appetizer. The poke is served very untraditionally, unconstructed if you will. It comes on a plate with the typical tuna, avocado and other poke ingredients. Except instead of rice, it is served with sesame puff chips as the starch for the dish. Good classic poke flavours but a bit strange to eat, since it felt like eating nachos. The french omelette is stuffed with dungeness crab and a green Thai curry. On the side, there is brioche toast and lettuce to form wraps and dip into the curry. The omelette is light and buttery but I expexcted it to be more fluffy as it was more dense than I would've preferred. The crab was nice, but most of the dishes flavour comes from the curry. Curry was herbacious, spicy, and well balanced with some acidity. The best bite for sure was a bit of the omelette, crab dipped in the curry on the brioche toast. DRINKS (n/a) We didn't order any drinks but I wanted to point out that they didn't have an extensive coffee menu. They only offered french press coffee which isn't everyone's cup of tea (or in this case coffee). SERVICE (4/5) Servers and wait staff were super friendly and stopped by the table to check in periodically. AMBIENCE (5/5) Both the bar downstairs and restaurant upstairs is well and cohesively furnished with soft toned woods and art. Really nice ane cozy vibe! VALUE (4/5) The quality of ingredients you get for the price you pay is not bad. I do wish portion sizes were a smidge larger for some dishes but the menu is geared more to shareables. ACESSIBILITY (4.5/5) Being located at The Well, you can get there via a number of streetcar routes. There is also paid parking, albeit expensive, available inderground. OVERALL (3.5/5) Lulubar is a great place to get together with friends and family either in the spacious restaurant or the downstairs bar. I live nearby and have been here 3 times since its opened because of the convenience and the space. It's two floors so don't be fooled when you see an empty first floor. Everyone will be on the second floor, it's gigantic with super super high ceilings. Must gets are the tuna poke, curry linguini and the beef tongue. The beef tongue is really underrated and it's sooooooo tender. I didn't believe it was beef tongue which is usually a bit chewy. They marinate it for a couple days I think. Service is nice, I just wish they were faster. We were left waiting sometimes and had to flag down the staff. read more

TL;DR: If you're looking for a bar / lounge with chic interior décor, decent patio, and nice cocktail drinks, or a King West vibe, this is the place to be. If you're looking for really good food or authentic Hawaiian cuisine without the King West price tag, you're better off elsewhere. Lulu Bar brands it self as "a taste of the Pacific with influences from Asia to Hawaii, California to British Columbia". The only Hawaiian-inspired dishes on the menu are the poké and loco moco (which are somewhat fusion-ized here). There are 2 entrances: from inside the open-air mall (which leads you to the large lounge and dining area in the upper ground), and from the outside (which leads you to the street-side patio and small bar). Their patio is pretty nice in the summer. There are washrooms on both floors / areas (the one on the lower floor leading to the patio is wheelchair-accessible and gender-neutral, but often there is a long lineup). Service here was the downside. When we first arrived, the host was nowhere to be seen (no staff in sight). The good thing was that we were able to be seated right away despite having no reservation. It was during their afternoon happy hour on a weekend, so the place was packed and very busy. They forgot to fill up the water and other items that were requested. Some of the staff seemed somewhat grumpy and not very welcoming, but some others were friendlier. We were seated in the corner of the patio so staff rarely came by and it was a bit hard to get their attention. In addition, the table was right beside where they put the loud speaker playing music - literally right beside my ear. It was a small portable speaker / music player that was placed within the plants section / wall of the patio, so it was easily movable. They should've placed it somewhere more central or not right beside a guest table... having high-decibels music pounding right beside and so close to my ear made for an unpleasant dining experience. Some of the dishes were good but some were a thumbs down for me. THE GOOD: - Grilled Atlantic Cod: Loved the grill char on top, turmeric and coconut sauce that wasn't too heavy or overpowering, and stir-fried greens. - Loco Moco minus the beef patty: You can ask for it without the beef patty to make it vegetarian. I liked that it came topped with mushrooms and fried onions. The gravy wasn't too thick or salty; it went well with the ginger fried rice. I also liked the fried egg with somewhat runny yolk and crispy edges. SO-AND-SO: - Kale Salad: Nothing special. It was alright. THUMBS DOWN: - Steamed Lobster Dumplings: 95% wrapper and 5% content. The dumpling 'content' barely had any lobster... at least I couldn't taste any lobster. The wrapper was made of sticky dough - not a fan of the texture. Dumplings were drowned in chili soy that was super salty and didn't taste good at all. There are so many better places to get seafood-filled dumplings, with legit seafood in it. Skip this one. - Grilled Oyster Mushrooms: The dressing, called "crying tiger dressing" on the menu, was very sticky, extremely sweet and salty (not in a good, tasty way). The king oyster mushrooms themselves were okay and had a nice texture, but the sauce / dressing was such a let down. Summary: Nice cocktails, lounge / bar, and patio. King West vibe. Service could be a hit-or-miss. Few dishes are good, many are just so-and-so or 'meh'. read more

I was so excited to try to spot, we came here on a Sunday afternoon without reservations. This restaurant is in the Well but accessible on Wellington Street. At first we thought it was empty inside but it turns out that they have a second floor which is accessible by elevator, and it turns out that it was pretty busy. The restaurant is clean, modern, and well lit with large windows. We were seated right away. We ordered the wok fried Thai noodles, salt&pepper pork belly, and hot dog bao. The hot dog bao had a fluffy bun, a sausage similar to Chinese style, and a creamy sauce which was so yummy. The wok fried Thai noodles were flat chewy wheat noodles and served with fried garlic, brisket, and fresh Thai basil - oily+comforting, yet fresh at the same time. My least favorite was the pork belly. It was pretty small and didn't have much garnish. It was served with a fishy/ citrusy sort of sauce. I would love to try more dishes next time! Prices are mid range. Washrooms are clean. Servers were all very kind and attentive to us! They also have a happy hour menu which is pretty affordable, I believe it runs everyday. read more

Listed in Canada's 100 best restaurants, lulu bar is a popular establishment in Calgary that recently opened a second location inside the Well at the heart of Toronto. The restaurant is split into two levels, with a beautiful bar downstairs and a mid-century modern dining room with an open kitchen upstairs. We fell in love with the decor and the cozy yet sophisticated vibe. As a Pacific-inspired restaurant, Lulu offers an extensive drink menu with so many fun tropical cocktails, and they are all half priced during happy hour! The food menu pays tribute to the many coastal regions of the Pacific Ocean with influences from Hawaii and Asia. During happy hour, several of the small plates items are discounted from their regular menu, so it's great if you are looking for something to snack on. We tried the kale salad which was so refreshing and delicious, the hot dog bao, the crispy new potatoes and the salt & pepper pork belly. All the dishes were $10 and under, which is an amazing deal!
