I had been looking forward to coming here for a long time, and finally got the opportunity to wine and dine at Valerie. It lived up to the hype for me, personally. The views were unbelievable and it was just such a lovely day. You can dine by the pool and they also validated our parking for 3 hours so we didn't have to pay any parking fee! Staff are friendly and personable. All the bites were delicious and served hot; there were plenty of options for vegetarians as well. Drinks were so good and not overly "done up" or pretentious. My review of this place is mixed. Located on the 28th floor of Hotel X, the restaurant spans across 2 floors.The view here was definitely the highlight. I came during Winterlicious so I guess the patio was closed use to the weather but otherwise would have been a very IG worthy place for photo. Ambiance is dark, romantic, but lively. Perfect for date night, celebrations, GNO and they have live band playing on Saturday's For the winterlicious menu, the portion was generous...I think it may have been full size. We got: - KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN - 6 crispy & large pieces of chicken and came with gochujang honey on the side. This was technically meant for 1 person but ended up sharing cause it was too much. Very generous on the portion size - HAMACHI CRUDO - lighter, refreshing, really enjoyed this dish - ROASTED SEA BASS - a few bones, felt a bit bland, dry, and burnt. Honestly at one point I couldn't tell if I was eating fish or beef (below) because it all tasted the same - YAKINIKU BEEF - medium rare but was quite dry and also bland, unless you mix it with the sauce they provide. - ICE CREAM COOKIE - surprisingly very good and not too sweet. Caramel, ice cream, and chocolate layer had a nice crunch. Was surprised they gave 2 instead of 1 but wondered if it was because we told them we were sharing it ?? - ASSORTED MOCHI - came with 3 pieces, strawberry and matcha. Pretty sure these were not made in house, but still enjoyable. - GUAVA NO-TINI - we both enjoyed it, no complaints! Service could've been a lot better but I think it was just my server because we got someone else towards the end of the meal and he was overall friendlier. My original server only came to take our order and ask if everything was okay. Had to flag her down a couple of times for cutlery's and she never explained the dishes, what the different sauces are, how to eat it, etc. literally brought the food over, plopped it on the table and left. She also kept cleaning the plates even though there was still food on it and we were still eating. I also made reservations through OpenTable for 7pm but when I arrived, the hostess said my reservation was for 7:45. I showed them my confirmation email that said 7pm but he brushed me off and said not to worry since they had tables available Overall, menu itself is fine, but the mains were quite disappointing for $65pp so it was a hit or miss. We stopped by this restaurant for drinks and snacks and had a really good time. 1) The view is absolutely amazing! 2) The ambiance is incredible with great lighting 3) The food is fantastic with lots of gluten and dairy free options We ordered the Soy Garlic Chicken to share, since we had already had dinner and it was absolutely delicious! It was crispy and cooked to perfection. The flavour was exquisite and I loved how it was gluten free. My brother in law ordered the Niku Yaki Udon and he loved his dish. He said it was really good and he enjoyed the flavour composition. We ordered 3 Drinks - 1 Red wine - 1 Sappora Beer - 2 Guava-No Tiny All of the drinks were really good. I found the Guava-No Tiny a little bit too sweet and not sour enough but it was enjoyable. The service was pretty good and the staff were very attentive. For all of the above items our bill came to $130 which was a bit higher than expected. We also had to pay $30 to park in the building bringing our grand total to $160 for the night. Would We Return? Probably not because of the high cost and high parking but if we randomly were staying at the hotel I would not hesitate to dine here again. read more

Valerie has a fantastic view of Toronto and the CN tower. Make sure you head out to the patio and take pictures. The service was top tier, the employees are super attentive and helpful. In terms of the food, the 2 items we ordered were so...mid. The maki roll was bland and it was served on a plate with very visible fingerprint marks. We popped in for a late lunch as we were waiting for our pool reservation, it's important to note that if you do plan on eating or drinking at the pool that the menu would be from Valerie's brunch menu. In terms of drinks- the Joie de vive was DELICIOUS and also their frozen espresso martinis!!! Went down so easy especially on a hot day! Food wise, as a pescatarian who didn't want fried options unless it's actual FRIES (I make an exception lol) there really wasn't anything I can have aside from the edamame and fries. lol I was hoping for lighter fare as we were going to be sun bathing in swimsuits. Both the edamame and fries were huge portions and delicious with the accompanying sauces. The service was amazing- the hostess even went out of his way to ask the pool stand attendant how to ensure we got lounges when our time came, the server was also super sweet and wanted to help us carry our stuff out! Despite lack of food options for me- the view is beautiful the drinks are delicious so I would definitely come back! This is definitely a spot for the views. Compared to other cocktail bars, it's more on the pricer side. The location is what makes the place. As for ambience it definitely has a fresh and vibrant feel to it. I think the food options can be improved and more shareable items can be added or rotated in the menu. My recommendations are the tempera shrimp. And the mochi ice cream was quite refreshing. It's great for a date night or one on one gathering. I'd say come for the views and ambience. I was excited to visit Valerie, and the experience started off great--the staff were incredible and very friendly! We tried the Winterlicious menu, which included the salmon tataki and soy garlic chicken for appetizers, the sea bass and steak for mains, and the mochi ice cream and matcha raspberry sandwich for dessert. The salmon tataki was the highlight--flavorful with amazing garnishes. The soy garlic chicken was exactly as expected, a huge portion that we ended up taking home. The mains were a bit on the underwhelming side. While the steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, it was a little on the tougher side. The sea bass didn't have the most appealing presentation and was underseasoned--I ended up using the sauce and seasoning from the steak to enhance it and it worked out. For dessert, the mochi ice cream was nice, but the matcha raspberry sandwich was a bit too sweet for me, the raspberry slightly overpowered the matcha. Overall, for a $60 Winterlicious menu, it was a solid experience. I'd definitely come back to try other dishes! read more

Omg such a gem! Abby called me personally to confirm my reservation, went above and beyond to ensure I had the best possible experience. She not only made sure I had everything I needed but also recommended the best dishes on the menu, one being the fried rice! I've eaten fried rice all over the world, but I've never had anything like what I had here. It was hands down the best fried rice I've ever tasted--flavorful, perfectly cooked, and so satisfying. I don't even like mushrooms so that's saying A LOT! On top of the food, the service was exceptional. Lauren, our waitress, was an absolute gem. She not only took care of our table with grace but also gave us some great tips about what to do around the city as first-timers. It really felt like she was invested in making our experience memorable. Impressed ! There are many things about this place that makes me say this. For one, its the vibe: calming with a beautiful view. Located in hotel x, on the second floor. I have been twice and both times the service is lacking. Lots of bartenders but they spent most of their time talking to each other. Not overly busy but hard to order a drink, then once I ordered it took a good solid 5 minutes to get the drink. It was really odd. Then trying to get a second drink or the check was an ordeal. I guess they know there isn't a lot of competing options in the immediate area so you get what you get. read more

The waitress was rude, unprofessional, and made the meal a very unpleasant experience. The food was expensive and I expected the taste and service to reflect that, I was let down in both categories. Also a 18% tip is automatically added to the bill, so I guess the wait staff don't even need to put in effort to get a tip. read more

If you go I would recommend getting one drink and not getting food. We ordered food and it took almost 30 min for someone to take our actual order. Once we finally got the food and drinks which took just as long, they didn't give us any plates or napkins. We asked for some and and it took long for them to get it to us too. The view is second to none...most likely the best in Toronto! The staff were especially attentive and friendly. They accomodated us on their patio despite not having my reservation in their system. Came here for a quick drink (or 2) before having dinner downstairs. The selling point here is clearly the view and yes the view is gorgeous but everything else feels like an OK. That includes the decor, the drink menu, the art pieces, the furniture (water marks on the table no coaster)... etc. Staff is friendly and attentive. I feel for the price they charge and being the top floor bar of a 5-star hotel, the bar / expectation is set higher than what they deliver.
