Delicious mini chicken empanadas and variations of hopia for an affordable price. The worker who usually helps me is an older lady who is very nice and sweet. The shop is small but has alot of Filipino pastries, snacks, drinks, etc. They also have a cafeteria style selection of Filipino dishes with a couple small tables to sit and eat. Do not buy their siopao here I was driving along Carson and saw Luisa and Son, because I am a regular at the one in Cerritos i went and got 8pcs of their asado and 6bolabola. After paying these I noticed that there were no sauce in the bag. I asked the lady and she said that they do not offer sauce because it was already saucy. FILIPINO SIOPAO without a sauce? I'd been in here, maybe, twice since my most recent visit. And, apparently, I failed to take a proper look around the store. The previous two times I was there, I was there for empanadas. On my most recent visit, however, while empanadas were definitely on the shopping list, I found they had a lot more than I realized: I knew they carried pan de sal(I bought two bags before on a previous trip), but, they also had Hopia, Siopao, Bibingka(I thought I saw some there), as well as other treats, not mention hot food. The place is small, but there's plenty to choose from, and there are two(maybe three? I can't remember clearly) tables(with chairs, of course) for you to sit at should you choose to eat. I'm addicted to Luisa's egg pie which I had not too long ago from their Artesia bakery. Since I was running errands in the South Bay, I figured I'd stop by and grab at the Carson bakery for the aunts during Christmas. Located in a plaza not to far away from the intersection of Carson / Main, it's tucked in the lower corner across from B of A. The refrigerator had stacks of egg pie along with other desserts. I grab 7 pies piled high. There were also a bunch laid outside the table. Looks like they were stocking up for the big Christmas celebrations. My sister loves their ensaymada and so I picked up ube, macapuno, pandan & macapuno. The cashier was an older lady. She was nice and helpful. I thought she was Luisa but she mentioned to me Luisa passed years ago. God rest her soul! I had a handful of goodies and so they gave me a box to carry all my stuff. I did notice that the prices here are a little higher than the Artesia location ($7 vs $6.50 for egg pie). Not sure if it was done that way for the Christmas season. I mentioned to her I came from LA and she was thankful for the business. An hour later when I get home, I tear into one egg pie. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't as good as the Artesia version. It seemed more dense, sweeter, and overcooked (had bubbles). The caramelized top looked different. It's still good but not as good as what I had prior to. A bit annoying that recipe and pricing are different among the two locations. Who knows, maybe they took some love out for Christmas to get mass production done since it appeared it wasn't mixed well, overly sweet, and probably cooked too fast at high heat. Who knows? I used to go to the Luiss and Son Bakeshop in Artesia whenever I was in the Artesia area and so when I found out they opened one in Carson, I knew that I would have to try this branch out. I always liked the stuff purchased at the Artesia branch and so I expected no less from the Carson branch. I am happy to say that the Carson bakeshop met all my expectations and even exceeded some of them. They offer a couple hot entries that they will gladly heat up for you at the shop or that you can take to-go. Their pancit malabon is great. They also have pancit palabok but the malabon is so much better in my opinion. They have baked macaroni that is good for at least a lunch and a dinner. It's rather rich in taste and can be a bit extreme if eaten all at once. I really like their "merienda" here. Their empanadas and hopias are excellent and really good deal at 60 cents each. (You can also purchase large empanadas for $1.20). If you get lucky and are here when the empanadas and hopias are fresh from the oven you will have a really great treat! This place also carries a variety of different baked breads - mamon, pan de sal etc. I have yet to find anything here that I did not like food wise. The service is friendly too and they will even give you a sample of something if you're not sure about purchasing the item. It's not unusual for me to get a sweet tooth. But when I get a Filipino sweet tooth, that's a whole 'nother ball game. I'm talking a craving for hopia, sweet bread, & anything attached to being Filipino--this bakery is the answer! They sell hopia individually so you can get as little or as much as you'd like. At the time of our visit, they offered Mongo & Ube flavors. Tried the Mongo...delicious! It's served warm (which is fine with me), so if you like it cold you're just gonna have to practice delayed gratification, get it home to your fridge & attack it later when it's nice & cold. That's how my kids like it. They also have Chicken Empanada. Small, delicious goodness. Things I may try next time that I saw in the fridge case were some varieties of Siopao. Just wasn't in the mood this particular visit, but I'll make sure I get in the mood the next time. Also bought the Flan...the Husband & kids devoured it...with comments of "mmmmm" in between bites. This is a traditional mini-Filipino bakery in Carson tucked in a little plaza with Bank of America and Albertsons. I've been living in Carson for 10+ years and have NEVER knew about this place despite going to the Bank of America and Flying Chopsticks right across from it. I only found out about this little bakery because someone bought a box of their freshly made hopias for my family. Their hopias are DELICIOUS! My favorite is the ube hopia. They are a nice soft, flaky bread texture. And their empanadas are just as good. I'm writing my review based on solely their hopias and empanadas, which are the only reasons why I go there. It's a little old and there's only one table on the side to eat and sit, but I just buy the hopias/empanadas and then get Thai tea right across from flying chopsticks. My cousins brought us some of the variety ensaymadas last week and they are "the bomb!" We came to this store in weekends and saw that they have bunches of placed order for pick up prepared. PROS: Ensaymadas, soft cupcakes, puto & kutsinta, buko pies, ube hopia CONS: pandesal are small, love the bigger ones from across the street. Watch for expiration dates, if eating immediately it's OK. Chicken empanadas are small. Although baked, they didn't come up to my expectations. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This place charged my family a quarter tray of pancit malabon for $20 when they had clear signage advertising it as $15.99. Even after speaking to the manager to clarify pricing, the manager claimed the $20 charge included tax. Clearly, that's a lie unless the whole city of Carson missed the memo that tax somehow increased to more than 20%. Please do not go here unless you want to be cheated out of your hard earned money. To the owners of this business, if you decide to raise prices on your products because of the holidays, do yourself a favor and also change the signs in your store. How can you have customers wanting to come back with an unwelcoming face?? We like their siopaos. Been here every week to get siopaos and their ensaymada. The ube is good. We've also tried their Buko pandan cupcakes, we bought a couple of dozens to bring to a party, it was good... But every week we give this "auntie" a chance but the sour face turns you off! This is a quaint little Filipino bake shop with many goodies to offer! I came in the other day with a craving for egg pie and bibingka--my favorite Pinoy sweets. The bibingka is amazing here. It's made the traditional style that's kind of cakey, and slightly Ilocano with the mochi bottom which gives the entire cake an interesting texture. I actually like this better than my auntie's, and that says a lot. Unfortunately, it's not always available right when they open... So you'd probably gotta come by in the afternoon if you want it. I got the egg pie as well for me and the family, and it wasn't what I expected. It was pretty dry and wasn't as creamy as other egg pies I've had. Probably not gonna get it from here again. Besides those two, I've had other items here that were pretty good too. Ube bread is good when it's freshly baked, and then the ensaymada and empanadas are good as well. Their mamon was alright The hopia was again decent tasting The polvoron was just plain nasty. It just tasted like cooked flour. This is by far the worst one that I have ever had. I don't like the lady which I think is the owner of this bake shop. She's pushy; she forces you to buy items that you don't want to buy. She also talks too much but doesn't really listen to her customers--just wants to hear herself talk and pushes the customers around. This store doesn't have a very great selection either. All they have is bland tasting pastries that taste as if they're a day old or more. One transaction takes long with this pushy owner lady too because she spends more than 5 minutes with each customer trying to persuade them into buying more than they would like to. Well she can't push me around-that crazy lady got a piece of my mind this evening when she was trying to persuade and force me into buying more than I desired to buy. I've been to other bakeries especially Filipino bakeries like this and they do not treat their customers like this. I know merchants have to influence their customers into buying their goods but it ain't supposed to be her method!! The next time I come to this bakery, I'm going when she's not here which is like after lunch or before 3pm. Very disappointed with the limited choices compared to the other stores in Artesia and Norwalk. Offers a few hot and cold prepared foods, like fresh lumpia, which you can eat there, as well as frozen foods, like chicken embotido and Filipino tamales. There are 2-3 tables for eat-in customers. A little cramped as you walk around and open the freezer door to inspect the frozen foods. Not very inviting to sit and eat here. First time here so I cannot comment on the taste and quality but did try the Food for the gods pastry, which is pretty good, moist and gooey the way you expect. Came in with the boyfriend since we were both craving some filipino baked goods. We were not satisfied to say the least. We got the cheese cupcake and palabok. The cupcake was not moist and it was just ehh. The palabok was the same and really watery. Nothing like the palabok i'm use to. The customer service was horrible. We walked in and looked around. We came in before another customer and she was helped before we were. The cashier saw us and ignored us. When we were finally helped she didn't seem very friendly. Update review after six years. All this time I still come to this place for the best filipino cupcakes like Buko Pandan and Ube Macapuno. Their ensaymadas are good too. Today my friend left her wallet on the counter. She had not realized she had lost it until we got home. Her phone rang and it was from an employee of Bank of America. A customer had noticed the wallet and notified Fe of Luisa's. Fe saw there was a B of A card so she ran to the B of A next door to ask them to call my friend. The wallet was lost and recovered in less than 30 minutes! So thankful for the honesty and kindness of the customer who found the wallet, Fe and the other gentlemen from Luisa's who went out of their way to trace the owner, and the B of A employee who quickly called my friend.
