I really trusted Luis From Luis Gardening. I am late with this review but wanted to make sure to share my experience. Pay almost 3K for a service that did not worked and they just took my money. They did a French drain system in my backyard because it flooded when raining, this was suggested by Luis. When i told them that what they did it not worked because the holes got filled with water and came back up he mentioned that he could do an additional hole to help. My patio kept on getting flooded. When i tried to reach him, he did not responded my calls anymore and i ended up losing money and no accountability for the bad work they did. It hurt my pocket as a single mom. read more

After having a bad experience with a previous company, I turned to Luis for the completion of a backyard demolition project. The grass in my back yard was sitting higher than my patio and water run off was flooding my patio. Luis came in and lowered my yard up to 6 inches in certain areas. Luis and his crew also were able to rip out a very extensive root system in my backyard. They leveled my yard out and then cleaned up the mess. I'd used Luis near the start of his business and the work was excellent. Back when I think he actually did a lot of the work. I used them and family had also. I think maybe they've got too big. Luis Jr is now the estimator. His price seemed fair, but more than I expected at first. Getting him there to do the quote was difficult. The day the work was to be done he dropped off ONE guy and left him all day to do the work himself. I told him I was surprised at that, and he said he was too! It was really hot that day too. Luis Sr came to collect the money. Didn't get much chance to really check it out before he was gone in a hurry. For what I paid, I think he could have used at least one more person, and the job would be a lot more detailed. Like in the olden days. Overall a decent job, but I'm not excited enough to recommend them w/o checking others out as well. read more

Luis and his crew did a great job on our backyard. We hired them for 2 major cleanups and 1 tree removal. In the front lawn they cut down an old tree that was pretty much dead. In a matter of less than 2 hours they were done and had cleaned up all the debris very carefully. I was very satisfied with the removal of the tree. Two weeks later, we had them do 2 major cleanups in the backyard. They hauled 2 truck loads of junk that we had in the storage shed and tore down 3 large chicken coops. I am starting to think everyone in the landscape business is a flake. My current gardener simply stopped showing up, leaving a landscape job unfinished for which I'd paid in full (but that's another story). Based on Yelp reviews I called Luis and was pleased when someone came out the same day and gave me a quote. I was a little shocked that his price was double the current gardener so it took me a few weeks to make up my mind to go for it. I called Luis and left a message that I'd accepted his quote and was ready to begin. No response. Emailed. No response. Called again. Finally someone called back, said they were putting me on the schedule and would phone me at 6 pm with a time date. Never got a call back. I called multiple times. No response. Gave up. Luis Gardening workers were very careless and unsafe work practices while clearing the old Hirshers' Nursery property on Standiford Ave. , Modesto. They didn't have enough common sense to wet down the dirt, grass, etc. before they started clearing the area and debris was floating into everyone's backyards, patios, swimming pools and even the cars were covered with the dust, grass, dirt, etc. We tried to call the company as soon as we saw what was happening and no one answered. I thought it was standard practice to wet down the dirt area before starting all that. Had there been a spark started by their equipment it could have started a fire amongst the dry brush they were clearing out. This is very unsafe and irresponsible. We are all left with a big mess over here behind the wall. read more

I called Luis' Gardening after getting two quotes from other gardening services companies. I saw their truck at my neighbors house and I decided why not get a quote myself. His quote was 20% cheaper than the other two companies. The other companies, Clarks said they could cut the bush and poison it but the green metal stake would prevent him from grinding the stump. Charles Schwab gave me an estimate and I called to book him but he told me he would look at his calendar and get back to me to set a date but he never did. I was wanting to book Charles Schwab based on the reviews from Yelp but he didn't follow through. The sad thing is that I was willing to pay more based on the company reviews on Yelp but I can say those high rating didn't apply to me. To go back to Luis', I asked him when was the soonest he could come out he told me within a couple days. He texted the night before (he asked if he could do that when he came out for the quote) that he would be at my house at 8 but I was going to taking my kids to school so I left the side gate open so he could get started. I had Luis come out to give me an estimate on a cleanup job followed by general maintenance...I was really excited when he actually showed up to give the estimate because he was the 7th business I had called and the first 6 were no shows. He was very, very nice and he definitely knows his stuff. He walked through the whole yard with me and explained what he would do and then gave me an estimate. We agreed, shook on it and he said he would be back in a week. Unfortunately, he never showed up. I called him to find out if he was coming and he said he was busy but he would be here later that day or the next day for sure...again, no show and won't answer my calls or return them. I don't mind waiting a little longer if he is backed up with other customers but I DON'T like being blown off and ignored. I've even asked him to just tell me if he doesn't want the job or doesn't have time so that I can find someone else to do it and he won't respond. Called Luis to remove some 4X4's and some 2X4's and other wood debris from a trellis I torn down due to rotting wood. Luis was recommended by my gardener for hauling the debris away. I called about 10am July 3rd and left a message but never received an answer back all that day - next day was July 4th so I figured they would be closed but I never received a call on July 5 either until I called again. I was told they would come by "later that afternoon probably around 4, 4:30 or 5:00" - waited until 5:45 and gave up on Luis who never called to say they were running late - simply no resect for my time. Won't make this mistake again. Not sure I trust my gardener's recommendations anymore. Luis may have caused my gardener to loose me as a customer too. Too bad for Luis because while I had only a small pile of wood I have a friend with an 88 acre ranch who told me he has a LOT of gardening debris from his orchard he needs removed and asked me to text him Luis's name and number...that won't be happening now. read more

All the workers appeared to work hard but the end result of the job was half hazard. They left broken branches and debris, broke a sprinkler head which wasn't noticed until a few days later when they started drying up. The work no way looked like the pictures in the advertisement! Luis used to do a fantastic job for me for many years. However recently, he has not answered his phone, his voicemail is full and when you are fortunate enough to have him answer he has promised dates and times to do projects and never shows up or calls to explain why. He himself gave my neighbor an estimate for a small project per my referral which she went with. Luis's crew came out to do the project many days and phone calls later just as the sun was going down. I told them as they were working that what they were doing was NOT what Luis said would be done but was assured it would be fine. It was a fungus problem that should have been handled the way Luis said it would. The fungus is back and I can't tell you how many phone calls and missed appointments we've had with him.
